  • It is common knowledge that when a storm is "rolling in," the muskies will be biting! But interestingly, as I have spent many days at the launch with other anglers waiting out lightening or foul weather, I have found that lots of anglers are scratching their heads seemingly wondering where the "hungry" muskies are hiding! If they are "so" easy to catch when a storm is approaching, then why are there not more muskies caught? Now, sometimes there are! This is indeed true when there is a group of talented anglers working a body of water. But for a musky hunter who is new to the sport, what can you do to stack the odds in your favor during such an important window?
In this video I will break down the key strategies that Stephanie and I used to hone in on a beautiful "Rocket Man" muskie that hit a downsized Buchertail tinsel right before a major storm set in. If you apply the tricks that you see in this video on your home water I guarantee that you will find more success! So, check it out and leave a comment if you have a question!

Awesome jump, and a great catch! Afternoon moon, and an approaching storm always seems to trigger the bite. Thanks for a great video.

Great fish. Can I ask why you netted the fish solo? No disrespect meant by this. Just an honest question.

Thanks Eric! And good question man. I generally don’t like putting that pressure on someone unless they are very experienced at netting muskies. That Muskie was caught in 2022 and Steph hadn’t done a lot of netting practice at that point. She really worked on her netting skills during the 2023 season so I started giving her more shots at netting fish. We’ve reviewed footage and looked at the techniques involved etc. Bottom line, if im fishing with someone that has little experience netting big fish, I don’t like to put them in a pressure situation. Bucher probably instilled a lot of this in me after sharing many a story together filming his show way back.
