It was the perfect time to go Justin with the beautiful Fall colours making up the background. This fire tower is a cool historic structure for our area. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
Great fun bro. I wasn’t familiar with what a fire tower is and had the idea that it is sort of a lighthouse. Then after watching this now I finally know it is meant for watching where and when a fire breaks out.
Hey Andy! Fire towers were and interesting concept before gps & satellite technology took over. They were a huge part of our protection against forest fires during our hot dry Summers. Thanks so much for coming along brother! Doug
Thanks for watching John! I’m thinking you’re absolutely right, the tower is supposed to move a certain amount as part of it’s engineering to survive high winds! Doug
Sheeshhh at those colors! We're still way behind. We have an old fire tower up the mountain from us here. I could probably walk to it in an hour or less from my house. Looks like someone used that one for target practice @12:46. 👍💯
I think you wanna be way behind what we are getting next Bill 😂. You should check out your local fire tower. Yes around here people love to shoot at any inanimate object instead of people 😂. Thanks so much for watching Brother! Doug
Beautiful lake. Love the fall colors. Couldn't get me up there. No way! Very cool history. They have been re-opening our towers because its too windy to fly a drone.
My kinda trip. Kayaking and then backpacking up to an awesome view. The colors were popping out there. What a cool place!! There’s no way I’d try and climb up that. Lol. Cool video Doug and Jamie 👍
You would have loved this trip Jason! Thank goodness for the drone getting us all the way up there to have a good look. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
Nice, thanks for posting! Oldest one I've been to was 1927! If you check the footing, sometimes the crew erecting the tower would sign their initials in the wet concrete.
That’s really cool Rob. I did see some signatures on the footing but they were hard to decipher amongst all the graffiti unfortunately. Still very cool to see my second abandoned fire tower and think of all the history that comes with it. Appreciate you watching brother! Doug
What a beautiful time of year for you guys to make this trip.. You're making great use of your drone. Love the views.. Watching and Supporting with Full View Like 72.. Hope you have a good week..
Allen this was the perfect time and adventure for the drone. I waited two years to do this adventure because of the drone. Thanks so much for watching brother! Doug
Wondered what happened to the first one! Great adventure...BRRRR, we desert dwellers commend you! Look at those Fall colors😳WOW! Uphill as usual! That’s what we say! Love the music during the flight...that just gives the overall view...what a catch! There it is! Such a cool find...can’t imagine climbing it everyday! Great share, Guys! Drone got us up there...so worth it! ATB, Lisa&Rick
It’s always interesting to check out some local history Lisa and this was in my bucket list for 2 years. Thankfully we had the drone so we could get such a good look at the tower and it’s inside. The Fall colours were a perfect backdrop for the fire tower. Thanks so much for watching my friend! Doug
We have one in Biscotasing but the building on top was removed by the MNRF 30+ years ago. My uncles and father worked this fire tower and there were extra concrete pads poured for a military radar station but the project never came to be.
That’s very interesting Ryan. In the past the government has said they wanted to take down all the fire towers in Ontario but I doubt it cause they won’t spend the money. Cool that your uncles and your dad worked in one. I wonder if they planned to build an entire CFS there. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
CRAZY COLORS!! what a world we are in/ you aren't sure where you are? throw up a drone! and wow that put some perspective on the hike, tough climb! Awesome view, again really glad you had the drone.. when you did the shot looking up the ladder i literally got vertigo thinking about how rickety it was, and looks even more UNsafe up top there wow! OMG he's going up! glad he didn;t go very far , cRazy!
It was a great adventure my friend and the drone was a big part of it. Seeing the tower up close with those Fall colours as a backdrop was just perfect. Nobody had to do anything unsafe to get a good look at this although Jamie tried lol. Thanks so much for watching Brother! Doug
That's an awesome looking tower, you got some great shots and footage of it, the colours in the trees were beautiful and really stand out, especially the reds, love this time of year, another great video 👍👍 ATB
Great video guys. I just couldn't be a fire watcher. Not that fond of heights. When Jamie was climbing the ladder and were following him with the drone, then you paned away, then came back, I was expecting to see him at the top. Thanks for sharing brother 👍
Me either Tracy! I’m a ground kinda guy lol. Jamie didn’t quite make it as the tower was swaying in the heavy winds. Thanks for coming along Brother! Doug
OMG Doug the color in Ontario is fabulous. Great footage with the drone, they are so cool. I wanted to see you climb that tower Brother, LOL. I really enjoyed this video
The Fall colours here were at their best in this video John. The drone made all the difference in this one to get that epic view of the tower. I don’t think I would fit inside that ‘safety’ cage that surrounds the ladder 😂. Thanks so much for coming along Brother! Doug
Great video. I can't believe the top is made out of wood. The top looks like it's about to fall off. That looked like a long hike.. Have a good weekend.
It’s crazy how much wear the top has taken and yes being made out of wood it doesn’t look like it’s gonna last much longer but it’s been there this long so who knows. It was a long hike but well worth the effort my friend. Doug
Nice paddle, nice climb and very cool drone footage..... Those fall colors are starting to pop up there.... That's just what I was thinking a man over 70 making that walk in and then climbing that tower had to be in excellent shape..... I don't think I would've climb it though.....LOL
Those colours @3:40 onwards Doug, wow! That was some hike up that hill, well worth the trek, amazing views. Drone footage was spot on. Don't think I'd want to get up there even when it was in good condition! Jamie for the WIN. Cool viddy Doug, really enjoyed it. Lee
Lee the sun finally started shining shortly after get to the tower and to see those Fall colours as a backdrop to this historic tower was just perfect. Jamie was very brave for even wanting to try and get up there! Glad you enjoyed it brother! Doug
The drone footage made all the difference here Andy as we were able to ‘climb’ up without having to. Lots of history. Thanks so much for watching Brother! Doug
Oh man that thing looks real cramped inside! Bet it catches some nasty wind too, I don’t envy the guy that worked there at all lol. Neat place, awesome drone footage!
Unreal how small it is up there! Not much room to move around. Crazy winds up that high on a mountain then the 80 feet of the tower as well. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
I've been told about how to get there and talked about going a while back. Glad I dont have to go now, that's too friggen far. Thanks for going for me Doug!
The Ministry removed the tower a couple of weeks ago. The cupola had finally blown off and as you said, it was already very sketchy given its age. I’m sad to see it go. Thanks so much for watching Glen! 👍🏻👊🏻
Not easy to get to Steve but so worth it! I can’t imagine being Jack Nyler or anyone working these towers back in the day. Thanks for watching Buddy! Doug
Another great reason to be the only drone pilot on the trip...so Jamie can be filmed climbing the flimsiest tower ever! Great trip and great practical use of the Spark!
It was sketchy Don but Jamie did good getting halfway up. The Spark did great then had a little mishap when it decided to land where it wanted to on its own damaging the gimbal. It’s in Texas right now being ‘Refreshed’ by the DJI experts. Hopefully it’s a positive experience. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
Great adventure Doug/Jamie. I thought that was a mice approach via Windy :Lake - added an aquatic dimension to the hike. Well, that a far out location and awesome as the fall moves in. Well done to Jamie for getting up there in part or full. Good going guys. Mark
Thanks so much Mark! It was a fun adventure and kudos to Jamie for getting halfway up cause the tower was swaying pretty bad in a good wind that day. Thanks for coming along Brother! Doug
How's she goin' guys!!! Great video!!! Nice to see the tower but I sure wouldn't climb it, not even in it's heyday!!! Way too high for me!!! Lovely drone footage, you got some good shots with it. What a view from up there!!! Thanks for posting and take care!!!
It’s so sketchy after all these years Wallace. It’s only a matter of time before the wood rots right out or the tower ultimately collapses. Thanks so much for watching Brother! Doug
Thanks so much!! That tower has seen some very harsh weather conditions over the last 100 years and it still stands proud. Appreciate you watching my friend! Doug
💨🍺 Hey you can see Top Lake from the drone or being up there. Been there many times and you can see the structures panels have been knocked out and shot at. I have old photos of the old fellow in the tower way back then. Imagine climbing that hill and tower every day! Sure is nice in autumn from up there. That's a first for me. There is another off shoot trail to Top Lake and ZI cannoed to near the end of it and went to an even higher lake. Great video.
That’s awesome you have those old pictures and now you see how it’s been damaged from weather and people’s need to destroy stuff. I can’t imagine climbing to that tower everyday. That’s interesting that you canoed the route, I may have to look into this in the future. Thanks so much for watching my friend! Doug
Awesome video and footage Doug and Jamie and well climbed looked not to safe at the top to be honest 😀👍👌...the last film i watched with a fire tower was wrong turn ...don't know if you have seen it ?
Wouldn't let me comment on the previous vid lol. Got some crazy towers in Montana but I have not been brave enough to climb one lol. Keep up the good work my friend and best of luck to you and yours cheers Nathan
Well Nathan the drone allows for us to ‘climb’ up and check things out 😂. Thanks so much for the kind words Brother! All the best to you and yours! Doug
Climbing a tower like that at age 75 is quite an accomplishment! Jamie saw the drone footage of the tower and though, I'm gonna climb that? Haha I'm glad he turned back around! That would have made one heckuva tree stand for deer hunting!
Jamie made a very wise decision not going all the way up. Yes an epic deer stand but a little too much air conditioning Chip 😂. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
What a great video Doug, Spectacular views but i wouldn't climb that thing looks Rather run down, 80 foot of climbing would be hard work... just a quick question how would the guy notify the authorities of a fire??? a drone would have been very useful back then LOL, thanks for sharing Guys ATB Jim
Jim the tower is extremely sketchy after 100 years of harsh weather it has faced. Watchmen were known to use, based on location, military type telephones, carrier pigeons and heliographs to notify others of a fire. A drone would have been extremely useful like it was for us in exploring this interesting piece of history. Thanks for watching brother! Doug
I was introduced to the tower last year, there is a telegraph line that comes down from the tower. Also, the guy who watxh over it would have to make the hike everyday, he had a small cabin at the bottom of the hill you can still see the foundation. If you follow the water stream where you from Windy Lake up, you can see them.
My father did this for the Forestry Service in the summers when he was 17 and 18. Said it involved lots of reading, day dreaming and trying not to have to go to the bathroom.
That’s so cool! It’s a cool piece of history, these fire towers. I never even considered the bathroom part of it but it would have sucked having to climb down every time you needed to go. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
Hey there my fellow Canadian and it has been a while since I was last by and got to say another great video when I got here that's for Sure. Love the footage with a drone at around 12 minutes and everything else in between as well of course. when I was younger my dad used to take me out to one of the old ones on the Appalachian Mountains where I grew up it wasn't quite as high as this when I don't believe but none the less felt like a mountain on top of a mountain at that age. Great share and keep up the Fantastic work
How you doing Brother? That’s really cool that your Dad would do that. They are an interesting part of our history. The drone footage made all the difference in capturing this awesome adventure. Thanks so much for stopping by my friend!! Doug
Man that looks like a beautiful day for this time of year . love finding old fire towers. and ya can't beat the views and the drone shots were really awesome atb john
They are definitely interesting John and the views from their locations are epic especially this time of the year in this case. Really appreciate you watching Brother! Doug
Very cool Brother. We have one, old fire tower locally. Not that old, LOL. Not been used , in , 40-50 years however. Surrounding counties, all have at least 1, if not more of these. I have not been there, in years. Unsure , even of condition? Might be A good day tip for me? Thank you, for the idea, and, concept sir. Great areal footage friends. Jamie climbed it ????????????????? More balls than me, however shrunken they were, LOL. Great film , and scenery as always. Peace, John.
Might be a cool day trip for you John! The aerial footage allowed Jamie to only have to go up half way up the swaying beast of a tower. Just looking up at that tower gave me shrunken balls 😂. Fall is a great backdrop!! Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
Brilliant but what a chore to paddle across the lake into all the greens, oranges, reds and yellows of a Canadian autumn, I mean just awful. Then to climb a hill to an old and impressive structure like that....Just kidding guys, really enjoyed this one. Interesting coincidence (to me anyway) the number of viewers so far for this Fire Tower episode just happens to be my old fire service number :)
It was tough to deal with all that Fall Canadian loveliness 😂. It was a great adventure and awesome to have a drone to check out the inside of the tower. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the number of views matched your old fire service number, it was meant to be Brother!! Doug
I am going to have to give canoeing a go, I always say that when I seer a video like yours but not done it yet but going to make a proms I will do it in the New Year. A bit of hard work, canoeing, then having to hike up to the fire tower. Good thing having the drone with you to get a bearing and it looked a dense hike up there. The color in the trees was amazing and hopefully you got back without getting wet, cheers Alan
Not an easy day Alan especially for an old fat guy like me but dammit I wanted to see this tower! Getting out on the water like that gives a real sense of freedom...you’ll love it. Thank goodness for the drone 😂. Appreciate you watching Brother! Doug
Absolutely! I would never go up there plus I’m scared of heights 😂. Having the drone gave us a great look at the condition up top. Appreciate you watching my friend! Happy New Year! Doug
One of your best videos that I have seen! Beautiful scenery and a history lesson too!! I was yelling at Jamie..."That's high enough...stop climbing the ladder"!! That drone is a great tool. Makes me want to get a drone. Maybe you can recommend one. Thoroughly enjoyed this adventure guys! How was the trip home??? Looked like weather was coming in. Take care up there guys!
Thanks so much Rob!! Appreciate your kind words my friend! The drone made the difference & kept Jamie from putting his life at risk climbing the tower. The trip home was uneventful and the weather actually improved but we were a couple of tired guys. No doubt I would recommend what I have which is the DJI Spark which is so much more than just your best bang for your buck. Incredible drone! Thanks so much for watching Brother! Doug
Hey Brother ☺️ ... What an amazing adventure! The hike to the tower was incredible, the drone footage, wow just wow seeing all those beautiful fall colors! Absolutely amazing! I had the honor this past summer to climb a fire tower with incredible views where I live. The best adventure I had this year. Thanks for sharing ☺️🍅
Thanks so much brother! The Fall colours were epic and thank goodness for the drone getting us up there for a good look! You are very brave for climbing that tower but it must have been so cool. Thanks so much for watching my friend! Doug
It was a cool adventure my friend! Took full advantage of the drone’s capabilities and saved a potential long day of hard needless extra hiking. Just beautiful up there seeing this old fire tower against all those Fall colours. Thanks for coming along brother! Doug
Seems a shame that so many of the fire lookouts in the US and Canada have been abandoned. Granted, fire detection technology has improved, but sometimes human eyes and judgment are irreplaceable. Outstanding work on this edition: really amazing capture of fall colors and great drone work. Glad nobody fell off that ladder. Stay safe out there. Cheers.
It is a shame that something that was part of our history is just left to rot away. The Fall colours were an awesome background for this interesting structure. Thank goodness for the drone giving us a bird’s eye view of the lookout perch. Thanks so much for watching Brother! Doug
Doug: Hey Jamie! Why are all the great Canadian points of interest on top of mountains? Huff... Huff... Hufff Jamie: Well Doug, It's the effort and the journey that makes it so rewarding. Doug: Well... I think a cheeseburger on your Blackstone is a better reward!!! lol Great trip guys!
Great adventure guys. Just think of how many times Jack climbed the tower and think of the weather he must have endured during his time there. Amazing ! Loved the colors and drone footage was really nice too. Very beautiful.
It’s unreal what Jack went through and considering he worked the tower from day one Tony. It was a beautiful time to head there and the drone made all the difference in giving us such a unique view of history. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
The drone gave you a very good view inside the cupola of the tower. It wasn’t safe to climb all the way up in its current state. Sorry if you feel you were misled by my title. Doug
Enjoyed the video very much great views and colors and a great hike thanks for sharing guys ATB and God bless you both..
Thanks so much brother! Appreciate you watching! Doug
Wow this is beautiful, what a view. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching my friend!! Doug
The colors on the trees is amazing!
Fall is the best time of year up here in Northern Ontario. Thanks so much for watching my friend! 👍🏻👊🏻
Great fall colours.
The Fall colours were an epic background for this interesting historical structure. Thanks so much for watching my friend! Doug
Awesome video my friend big like
Thanks so much John!! Appreciate you watching Brother!! Doug
Outstanding fall colors. Beautiful fall colors. Cool fire tower Doug. I hiked to a few we have in our area in the past. That tower looked sweet.
It was the perfect time to go Justin with the beautiful Fall colours making up the background. This fire tower is a cool historic structure for our area. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
Great video! Beautiful view up there. My brother worked that tower back in the day.
Thanks so much Shari! That’s awesome that your brother worked the tower. Such an interesting piece of our local history. Appreciate you watching! Doug

Spectacular views but i wouldn't climb that thing looks
Rather run down, 80 foot of climbing would be hard work...
just a quick question how would the guy notify the authorities of a fire???
a drone would have been very useful back then LOL, thanks for sharing Guys ATB Jim
Wonderful autumn colours. That metalwork looks sooo flimsy, I wouldn't have stepped on that ladder, let alone up as high as you did.
Thank goodness for the drone Dale! It gave us that wonderful look without anyone getting hurt. Love Autumn!! Thanks for watching Brother! Doug
Doug
@@PinetreeLine Reminds me of a song by Prince, "Yellow Rain...Yellow Rain"
Doug
Man that looks like a beautiful day for this time of year . love finding old fire towers. and ya can't beat the views
and the drone shots were really awesome
atb john
Doug
I saw, he did not fully ascend, however, My version, is more theatrical, LOL. Peace. John.
Doug
My great-grandfather worked there in the 1940s and he died at a 102 years old in 2010
That’s so interesting. What a great long life, the stories he must have told. Thanks for sharing Derek. Appreciate you watching! Doug
Yep, nope. Won't get me up that ladder. Not afraid of heights, but not a fan of ladders at all.
Damn brother I have the same feelings about ladders! 😂. Great stuff Smitty! Thanks for watching my friend! Doug
Great video guys! I can only imagine how "exciting" it would be to be sitting up there and the wind picks up. Yikes.
Ummm...ya no thanks! I much prefer the ground 😂. Thanks for watching Brother!
Doug
Some of these lookout towers are so old that if you tried to get on it you will fall though
Doug
Wow, what an adventure! Really liked the idea of using the drone to check your route out! Superb footage brother that tower is way up there!! 🤩👍👍👍
Huff... Huff... Hufff
Jamie: Well Doug, It's the effort and the journey that makes it so rewarding.
Doug: Well... I think a cheeseburger on your Blackstone is a better reward!!! lol Great trip guys!
Damn right brother! That’s real life chatter right there!! 🤣
.....and he was 74 doing that.
Crazy eh? What a stud he was!
Doug
I don't think I'd want to work there regardless of the view.
I’m completely with you on that Johnny! I’m a ground dweller 😂. Appreciate you watching!! Doug
Not that I think it's safe to climb that, but you didn't really go "Inside" the tower as your title says...
The drone gave you a very good view inside the cupola of the tower. It wasn’t safe to climb all the way up in its current state. Sorry if you feel you were misled by my title. Doug
