Tabbed interactions in Articulate Storyline, like many other types of click-to-reveal interactions, are a great way to organize learning content in a meaningful way for your learners. They can also help you reduce on-screen text and require your learners to "pull" the information out of your course, rather than it just being "pushed" onto them.
Additionally, learning how to build a tabbed interaction can help you understand the basic building blocks of developing interactivity in Articulate Storyline.
So, in this How-To Workshop, I'll show you how to build a tabbed interaction in Articulate Storyline, using buttons, states, slide layers, and triggers.

Thank you so much for your teaching style! Your understanding the needs of a beginner is remarkable and greatly appreciated!
Happy to help! I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you very much! A great design for a tab interaction which was easy for a beginner to understand.
OMG! I am learning the Articulate Storyline to create my portfolio and you have made this so easy to follow along. Very engaging as well. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. I love your videos they are so helpful!
I died when you said Free Willy It! This was a great explanation and covered important concepts. Very nice video!
Lol. I'm glad you liked it! 😂
I’m listening while I walk. Then I go home and sit down and try this!! Your voice and delivery allow me to grasp slot without even looking!
I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching / listening!
Thank you so much for this! It was very helpful!

Great stuff ❤
I'm working on my first official SL project and I'm hoping to use tabbed interactions to deliver 3 scenarios.. crossing my fingers... you covered so many different features... really a lot of useful and helpful information! Thank you very much, as always!
Glad it was helpful, Brenda!
Just fabulous! Thanks Tim!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your videos..these are so helpful in the ID jurney!!

Amazing video. Well done and extremely helpful.
Thanks, Teresa! I'm glad you liked it!
Thanks so much. I knew how to do most of this, but I had no idea how to turn off individual base objects.
Glad you liked it, Karen! There's always something new to learn with Storyline! :)
Thank you so much Tim for this video. This is awesome and I will definitely try this. In fact, I watched other videos for your Storyline 360, it helped a lot. Keep up the good work! However, I am not sure if you already have any video on UI/UX design, if not, please try and make one for us. It will help us in adding one more skill as well good interactivity to our project and portfolio.
Thanks, Sakshi! I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank you, Tim. Learned a trick or two and got the chance to experiment. For the "selected" and "viewed states", the default ones didn't work for me. So, I had to do something a bit more sophisticated with variables and conditions. But, got it to work eventually! 😅
Thanks for watching!
Tim, thank you. when I duplicate and make layers, I usually have to go to each layer and recreate the triggers for the tabs. Or I create them on the base layer and go to each layer to hide the tab for that layer. How did you get around doing this? I was following and creating step by step. Michele
Hey Michelle! Hmmm. I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I might suggest you post your file inside the community, in the Advice & Feedback space here: community.elearningacademy.io/c/advice/
That'll make it easier to see what's going on.
@@elearningacdmy Hi Tim, I rewatched the video and figured it out. I have been duplicating the Base Slide when I should be creating a "New Layer". Thank you for your time.
Any suggestions for how to get the motion path to be straight? I keep creating crooked paths.
Honestly, just very delicate, careful movements with your cursor.
Lorem Ipsum is Latin.
My freeform arrow is not nearly as straight as yours is in the video... lol
That's okay...it takes some delicate mouse work to get it right. It's all in the wrist. 😊
