    Claudia was turned at 14 years old. By the time she walked out of the house with the adult clothing, it has been 4 years. She is now, chronologically 18 years old in the body of an adolescent.

    It’s almost worse that their little trio really was happy for a while. It was never going to last, but they held on tight. Claudia is definitely an amazing character and one of my favorites.

    I like the 'little things' in this episode. Vampires sleeping in striped pajamas? Love it. Lestat and Louis as parents. When Lestat comments says he doesn't care for Claudia's pleated skirt and Louis responds 'it's chiffon, it moves.' Lestat's "get back here, Missy," (Classic in its very own way.) Finally, Louis and Lestat beaming at Claudia as if she's on her way to the prom when she goes out to hunt. Then, comes the darkness. Thanks for the review! You're so right that Claudia should never have been created.

    I think they don't tell us how long it's been is so we can kind of understand that time means nothing to them.

    • @AnnekeOosterink
      @AnnekeOosterink Місяць тому +1

      Well, they do tell us in different ways that time has passed, and how much. Louis tells us he met Lestat for the first time in 1910.
      We don't know the exact year Louis was turned, but it was before or during the first world war since he meets with his childhood friend after he's been turned.
      Grace gets married, has twins, has another baby when the twins are around 5 years old. Which means that since Paul's death roughly 6 years have passed.
      Our happy murder family watches Nosferatu, which is from 1922. And Claudia says she is 19 on her ice cream date with Charlie, which I assume is the truth, so she's been a vampire for 5 years at that point.
      So we can infer that it is somewhere in the mid to late 1920s, when this episode ends.

      I love this perspective (even if we do seem to be missing some verbal/social cues on the time) because when I compare it to how Akaya and I are both like, "HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN?" it can show how much we do focus on time. So interesting.

      @ben361971 i mean. Not really? You don't find out in the last episode that decades have passed as some kind of surprise. In the second episode the age of the children is a pretty giant giveaway. As are the many references of the characters mentioning that years have passed.

    Thank you for the great reaction. It is easy to relate to your questions and reactions to the events of the show. You two are some of the first reactors to think about the ramifications of turning Claudia when she is so young. It seems fine on the surface. But the effects on her mind over the years were predicted perfectly by you two. Is a great story. Made even better with your insight. Thanks again.

    Astrological signs (Anne rice actually gave Lestat, Louis, and Claudia the same birthdays as her, her husband and daughter.) Lestat has her husbands birthday, November 7, is a Scorpio Sun and Moon, with a Leo rising. Louis has Anne Rice birthday October 4th, Libra Sun, Aries Moon and Aries Rising. Claudia has her daughters birthday, September 21, Virgo Sun, Aquarius Moon and Gemini Rising. The Claudia character is based on her daughter that passed away real young.

      First things first - Happy Birthday to Claudia 🎂 Thank you so much for posting this because I've been too nervous to search it while avoiding the spoilers behind every corner. I meant to circle back to this at the end of the video so I'm gonna ramble about it a bit here. My guesses for Lestat were - Leo, Cancer, or Scorpio and my guesses for Louis were - Aquarius, Libra, and Gemini so this makes so much sense. The fact that we know their rising/moon signs too is so fun and they are SO ON POINT. I haven't seen much about her yet, so my guess was going to be that she was an Aries, but this is VERY interesting. Thank you again!

      I think about that book a lot because the first time I read it I was a child and I remember being like, "YES, LIVE FOREVER!" and being disappointed, but that really is a book you should read at different stages of life to have a different perspective. Which also makes sense why Louis and Lestat saw it differently because they are in such different stages of their transition. Y'all got my wheels turning in the comments!

    as some others have already mentioned, it's very refreshing to see reactors actually voice an objection to Claudia's turning. It was selfish and cruel to Claudia. It doesn't matter if there are happy moments after, she's still stuck in a body of a 14 year old girl.

    Claudia is 14 years old in the series. In the book , she is 5 years old. In the 1994 film, she is about 9 or 10 years old.

    I just knew you guys would like Claudia! And yes everything about Claudia's turning was selfish. Louis doing it because he felt guilty about being part of the cause and Lestat doing it because he knew it would keep Louis with him. And it's very interesting when you think about Louis' turning because Lestat was selfish in the sense that he fell in love with Louis and wanted him as his companion forever, but there's an element of consent that was not there for Claudia.
    ALSO, love that you called out Daniel! I LOVE Daniel and he's a fan favorite for a reason, but he's got this particular slight flavor of white liberal microagression that can be a little infuriating when it occasionally jumps out LMAO

    It helps if you know about fashion and certain events shown in the episodes, since they do refer to them.
    In the first episode Louis tells us it's 1910 when he first meets Lestat. We know some times passes before Lestat turns Louis, just not exactly how much.
    Grace marries in the first episode, then is pregnant in the next episode, the next time (well, perhaps Louis came by a little more than just once in 5 years, but it does seem like he didn't come by at all for years) Louis visits she has two kids of about 5 years old and a newborn, so we know that since Paul's death at least 5-6 years have passed, assuming she got pregnant with the twins soon after her wedding. There are also references to the first world war.
    Claudia was turned when she was 14 and she tells Charlie she's 19 at their ice cream date, which I assume is the truth. So it's been 5 years, though I'm not sure the exact year she was turned.
    We see them watch Nosferatu, which is from 1922. Claudia is wearing the the typical 1920s hat and coat when she goes out alone (when she is noticed by the mean girls, who mock her and remark that she raided her mother's closet. You can interpret that as she's wearing adult clothes and they assume she's as old as she looks, or you can take that to mean her clothes are going out of fashion.)
    So we know that it's been about 15-18 years since the first meeting of Louis and Lestat.
    The show doesn't give us actual years, but you can tell that time is passing. 😊

    • @birdcallsreaction
      @birdcallsreaction  Місяць тому +2

      I feel like this is one of the biggest points of difference between watching something without talking through it and watching it doing a reaction and talking to each other - we're missing some of these cues! The second watch is going to be so real, and I may jot down a few of your notes to reference so I can get a timeline in my mind. Something that you mentioned that is really interesting is that when I heard Claudia tell him she was 19, it never even occurred to me that she was being honest with him. Louis and Lestat tend to default to lying (obviously with reason), but she was being honest with Charlie. Very interesting.

    • @Pooobaihr23
      @Pooobaihr23 Місяць тому

      Claudia was turned in 1917... Louis mentions the years when he talks about the years that he had owned the Azalea. You also see the years passing by when they do her birthday party... The banner says its her 17th birthday. She was 18 when Lestat took her to Lover's Lane. That was basically her introduction to adult things, because she was an adult at that point. Thats why he said she had been too sheltered. That was Louis's doing. Poor girl hadnt realized that she was aging.

  • @charlierayed
    @charlierayed Місяць тому

    Its so interesting that we all come to the conclusion thay turning someone is inherently selfish and they're all miserable yet they all try to do it including Claudia 😅 Lestat did it out of loneliness but Louis did it because he couldn't live with the fact that this little girls death would have been his fault, which is what Claudia tried to do with Charlie. But I'm most mad at Lestat for going through with it just to get Louis back when he knew the consequences of turning a child. These folks are a MESS, and I love them all 😄
