Funny you say that about the indoor range.
I’m a member of a club that has a 50m indoor range twice a week.
And we can shoot at 100m indoor once a month at another club.
All good for testing and all.

@@VikingAirgunner Excellent! Really looking forward to the comparison and summing up. I have a feeling that the unchoked barrel may actually be better for you. Chokes are a bit of myth and really not required in my opinion, especially for slugs. I'm led to believe it may of been Weihrauch that discovered it by chance when they applied the pressed dovetails to the end of the barrel to fit the open fore sight, this process choked the barrel slightly and they found it made the barrel less pellet fussy. Theoben then started to do it to their barrels with gland clamp machine. If you have a well formed barrel with decent Crowning on the muzzle you don't need a Choke.
Take care Peter. All the best. Neil.🙂

I have a TJ barrel and a Lathor Walther barrel in .357. I went with the TJ barrel, but no choke because....well, there was no reason just went with it first. The difference was felt and saw immediately at the range. It didn't matter what I shot in it. Groups were tight at all ranges. I need to find someone to turn my LW barrel. I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do.

    • @VikingAirgunner
      @VikingAirgunner  10 місяців тому +2

With a 357 I would not image that a choke would do anything good. I dont really want to predict the outcom of the test of the heavier slugs, but I would not be surprised to see them being outperformed by the lighter slugs.
So also very exciting to see how the unchoked version performs - just recieved it today 😃

@VikingAirgunner at that time, the Mk2 had just come out and choked is the only thing out. Yes, the accuracy was horrible. The TJ barrel I have in it now is a 1: 16 twist rate, good for light heavy to heavy slugs. Twist rate.

Your videos are great and very informative.
I also shoot Slugs from a Lothar-Walther Polygon barrel without a choke and am very happy with it.
I now have the opportunity to buy a Polygon barrel with a choke and wanted to ask you whether this makes sense and whether the accuracy might be even better as a result.
Of course I would have to test it out, but I am still interested in whether a choke is an improvement.
    Best regards

Awesome video. I saw that you chose the polygon style choked barrel. Now I wonder how a polygon unchoked, 12 groove choked, 12 groove unchoked would have done in comparison. I might say its a moot point considering the great results you got with the poly unchoked barrel. But doesn't it make you wonder? Lol. I do! As always, thanks for sharing all the data that you do. I got two guns with same barrel as you. 177 LW polygonal choked barrel 60.5 cm. Both guns loves the newer NSA 15gr (950 - 975 fps). Newer nsa has different shape than the older one, but still weights the same.
Also, did you season your barrel when you switch between different slugs? I found seasoning the barrel can drastically increase the grouping size. Some guns or slugs only need 5-10 shots with newer ammo until groups good, some needs 50-100 shots, some also needs pristine clean barrel without any old ammo materials left in the barrel.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences 🤗👍👍
Your input based on your experience is dynamite info 😎
I did shoot some shots in between the different slugs and started out with a clean barrel. Didnt clean during the test, but with the 13 gr ZAN at the end I dont think it was needed.
I have different input regarding when to clean the barrel, so I stick to aprox 200 shots max and then shooting some shots before expecting accuracy again 🙂
I will film the next part of the video today, so the 15 gr NSA will be tested 😎 Been shooting it alot in the past - super ammo 👍👍

I havent shot pellets for a long time since my main focus is the longer distances. And with a 177 it becomes quite difficult with pellets.
But I still think there is a place for pellets. In the bigger calibers they are stabile much further out than in 177, so they can easily be shot at 100 m.
I do have an idea of getting a gun for pellets at some point. This for distances at max 50 m 🙂

I have a LCS SK-19 in .25 caliber but can not find a slug that the LW Polygonal choked barrel likes. It shoots FX 34 grain pellets @ 960 FPS lights out but no luck with slugs sir. Do you have any suggestions on a slug that may work? It seems to me that the slugs from JSB and NSA .250 dia not only fit loose in the magazine but also in the barrel and give me a shotgun pattern even at 25 yards at any speed. The gun is a MOA @ 100 gun with FX pellets but doing pest control the pests see my truck and run or fly away to 150 yards and farther. I need a slug to make my customers happy. Can you help sir?

    • @VikingAirgunner
      @VikingAirgunner  10 місяців тому

My experience with other calibers than 177 is unfortunately limited, so I cant really say anything specific to help you.
I have a feeling that the bigger calibers are less sensitive to slugs, so your challenge surprises me.
First of all make sure that you have covered a big span of velocity testing, but I sense that you have done this all ready.
My limited experience with LW has shown that the choked polygon version likes slugs from ZAN, and maybe a lighter slug bcs of the choke? So without presenting you with a certain solution, I will suggest testing those.
      Best regards

Not at all surprised by the accuracy of the ZAN slugs.
I use the 23grn 5,5mm slugs. I used to weigh them all, just to be sure.
They are the most consistent slugs I have ever seen.
At most a 1/10th grain difference between them.
While H&N or JSB have some times several with a difference of a whole grain.
That is way too much and not acceptable I think.
    ZAN all the way!

Well if it is about who has the better accuracy, I think you misunderstand the purpose of this test... This video is made to show how the choked polygon version of the Lothar Walther barrel performs with varoius ammo. So not nessecarily a video that shows what I/my gun is capeable of when tuned to perfection with my prefered barrel and ammo.
I will advice you to go through my videos and get a picture of my general results. And after that compare to whatever shooter that you are refering to. And remember that I show 5 shot groups at 100 m - not hunting videos with one single lucky shot out of 50 off camera attempts....

@@FalconslugsPakistan Im sorry if I come out as defensive on this matter. There are saddly too many people who are caught up in this whole "we hate fx" without ever having shot an FX.
My experience with FX liners are well documented here on my channel and I must admit that when the heavy liner came for 177 it was a totally different experience. So I hope that you have had the chance to test this one in 177.
As for other calibers I cant say more than what anyone else can see. They seem to perform very well which is proven in many different competitions - and not only RMAC.
So I have to say that the liners from FX are very capeable.
But as for getting the best results in all barrels/liners it is about finding the right ammo and velocity. And if you learn how to tune a gun right you will get pretty good accuracy out of most guns. Even cheaper gun seems to get better and better - and what a good thing for the airgun world🙂
So with my best 5 shot group at 100 m being 8 mm with my M3, I tend to get a bit defensive when people say that fx liners are rubbish.
I cant wait to see the results of my tests of both this choked and the newly arrived unchoked barrel 🤗
And even more excited to see how they perform at 100 m outdoors 😃
Thank you for sharing your experiences and giving me the details of your tests.
Detailed comments are always welcome here on my channel 🙂
We learn from eachothers experiences 🤗

Lothar Whalter its just amazing barrels i have a 7.92x39mm soviet cartridge barrel in 17.2 inch i think is that size i know it have at least 17 inches in a Czech Arms VZ. 58 and is just ridicolous accurate for that cartridge with S&B, Barnaul, Hinterberger, FMN, PPU all of this medium and high range ammo and its just great its capable of at least 1.5 moa at 100 meters or less i got 1.3 groups consistent at 2500 fts/sec a little bit more just 30 to 50 feet and the results are amazing far one of the best and the FNH barrels to great stuff a bit pricier but it worth it every pennie great quality manufecter. I hope LW make a 7.65x25mm Mauser barrel or a compact gun in the 100mm or 105mm barrels and a .30 Luger 7.85x21.59mm one of the best calibres for me old but gold they were develop in the golden age of transition in firearms to smokless powder and alot of testing was put on them and i hope the 8x33mm Kurz patrone could get in the future to mass prodution with higher pressure cartridges and new powders its just the perfect cartridge and a 8.25x23.50mm intermidiate cartridge neck down case from the .223 cal. But thats my dreams and Europe should develop a true intermidiate cartridge we have this capability in a 6.36x46.60mm cartridge with a load out of at 66.000 psi max and a 93 grain to 117 grains reaching the optimum weight and velocity going past that is going back a 90 to 110 grain bullet is proved to be the best weight to power ratio and case capacity to reach at least a decent velocity from a 16inch or 380mm to 420mm barrel lenght armies just have to stop this nonsense of 11inch barrels and even less its ridicolous a good barrel lenght have to be at least 400mm or 17.6 inch for good velocity and is not that big and a 6.36mm bullet in diameter seems to have great low drag and diameter to load decent 93 to 110 grains and thats all you need if a rifle go to that 900meters/sec or 3000ft/sec from a 17.6inch barrel with increase pressure but just mac 10% for barrel integraty and recoil but will be enough for a great cartridge for 50 years no big military experience company have done or a joint development from several institucions a new true intermidiate cartridge
