9 years ago when I got into kpop, I used to enjoy telling people about it cause they knew absolutely nothing and had no preconceptions, so I got to be the one to introduce it to them and explain a little about it. Now I hide that shit, and avoid mentioning it at all costs.

@@HwasaHottieXSolarMoon This was the first scandal I ever watched unfold in k-pop (I have been following k-pop for not even 1 year now) initially I was really against Garam especially when the news came that the victim attempted suicide ( I am still not confirmed of it cause I didn't see the proof of it) but over time I have become conflicted and really throught did the people really were justified in not waiting until everything sorted out and literally bullying garam on SM.
The day her contact was terminated I checked Twitter tags, the way people were mocking her, celebrating her departure is it really how you behave with a teen.

I was thinking the same thing 😂 I would say ‘ASAP’ is the “worst” of their tracks because it got overplayed, but that’s the worst of basically kpop perfection. There are a few other groups I would say have the benefit of being pretty new that have great discographies, like CIX having another solid mini album, but they are also not trying too hard, which allows groups like these to have good discographies.

I understand what you mean about Garam but you forget that people don't know the victim either. A person coming from nowhere with zero or fabricated proof and random allegations cannot be trusted. So the argument that you cant defend an idol because you don't know them is definitely obliterated when you defend a "victim" when you don't know them either. On top of it, when accusations come out we don't even know who the victim actually is. The idol could be the true victim of malicious character assassins. So people have a right to defend them so long as there is proof and or logic in their arguments. So no, knowledge of the idol is irrelevant.
Edit: Also people were insulting her and her talent, guilty or not people have the right to defend her from that.

Now, about some other topics. I think it's ok to be a company stan as long as you don't think only the artists from this company are good and if you like the 👉🏻 artists 👈🏻 and don't go everywhere defending everything the company itself do (regarding management, treatment towards idols, those kind of things)
And about Garam. I agree that people shouldn't defend her as if they studied with her and knew exactly what happened. But the accusers didn't have proof either and a lot of misinformation spread was proven wrong. In the end, Garam could prove her own innocence, but her career was already ruined by haters who also couldn't stay neutral about the situation and had the urge to make Garam's life a hell. Everglowup and K-DAN (this last one is Brazilian and I'm not sure if his videos have English subtitles) made great videos explaining Garam's situation, I recommend for those who still don't know exactly what happened
All of this to say XD I agree people shouldn't get so emotionally attached to an idol who just debuted, but I understand people trying to debunk misinformation and specially felling bad for a 16 year old girl who was so hated

Nice to see a fellow My Day and Insomnia spitting facts lol. There's a couple of groups where I genuinely like every comeback and I think it's groups that stick to a concept or genre that do this well. Groups that change concepts regularly are more likely to have songs I don't like, which makes sense and is fine lol. But yeah I think if a group sticks to a specific concept or style they're more likely to have fans that genuinely like everything they put out.
I agree it's ok to be a company stan but I do think it's a little weird to stan a group because of the company they're in, I understand it to a degree because usually groups from the same company have somewhat similar music styles but it also leaves a bad taste in my mouth when someone says they're an SM stan or HYBE stan etc. it almost comes of as they don't actually like the groups/idols and just stan them because of the company. idk it just feels disingenuous.

No, I'm not gonna sit here and act like I love every song by every group/idol I've checked out so far, even if they're my favorites, BUT I do genuinely like/enjoy every song I've heard so far...and I've heard HUNDREDS, INCLUDING from my favorites. Like, liking an artist's/group's entire discography isn't a bad thing at all. Especially when it's THAT good. (And yes, Dreamcatcher are awesome!)
1:34 gonna slightly disagree with this one. There's a few groups that I have legitimately liked every comeback (most of these are from "nugu" companies). Dreamcatcher is one of those groups, there are of course some songs that I like less than others but overall I don't think there's a single comeback that I don't like from them and I think this sentiment is shared by a lot of insomnias (fandom name), they just constantly release bangers. Also I don't think there's anything wrong with liking every song from your favs, as long as you're being genuine with yourself.

Personally I think someone is a stan if they follow the group's social media (like personal member instagrams) or additional content (like vlogs variety show appearances etc.) but I know some people who say they're a stan of a group when they just like the music or when they know the members faces.
But if you’re not on twitter you’ll miss half the stuff your faves drop or won’t find out till last minute 🤧

i think a lot of the point about not thinking about idols as humans ties into the "they already apologize" one. When you stop thinking about someone as a human being it goes both in a negative and a positive way. Since they're not human, they can do no wrong and therefore they can't get better or worse. It's either black or white with them. And as a consequence, people think as idols as either the most perfect thing ever or the worse person to ever walk this earth.
Idk, I view all idols as human, but I avoid almost every controversy like the plague.

When I first got into Kpop in 2017 I met the wrong people on twitter and they drove me to believe that I was sabotaging group A if I listened to music form group B&C and still to this day, when B&C have comebacks, there is a little voice in my head telling me I shouldn’t like it.
And the moral of the story? Stay away from twitter stans. They will literally ruin the music for you.

i encountered one of the most toxic stans ( i wont say what fandom but i still remember the account name ) she trash talks every. single. group. except for the group they stan. and whenever she sees a video or pic or post abt other kpop groups she would go "🤮🤮🤮🤮" its so pathetic honestly. its so annoying and she aint the only one. ive seen many other stans trashtalk other groups. like whats the point? i do seriously don't understand why they hate / dislike unless they're problematic. i think you can guess which fandom this is. ive reported this fandoms accounts many times. one of them actually got banned😗. no hate to the non toxic stans of this group though. :)
I recently encountered some "fans"--I also won't say which fandom/group--that made an innocent photo of two members meeting an older fan and basically calling her a creep. She didn't even do anything!

i think a lot of these points come down to making sure we're consuming the content in a conscious, somewhat critical (but not too critical :D), and responsible/healthy way. enjoying the experience without getting overly invested, not hyping things up just because we're used to hyping up stuff that meets a specific criteria (group/company/concept etc), being careful with parasocial relationships. that's a really good mindset imo, i hope it gets more popular - not even just relative to kpop but in general.
the only point i'd disagree with is 7: could be an indicator of someone who's new-ish to k-pop, or really just a matter of taste. there's probably at least one b-side for everyone within those discographies, sure, but tbh listening to a whole new discography is a commitment, both time and energy-wise, and i think it's completely fine to skip a group if the few songs you HAVE heard from them were not your style. i'm guessing this point was more on the unserious side though (?)

I get it that people should branch out and listen to more group, but we are no one to tell who they should or they shouldn't listen to, in my opinion let them listen to ONE group if they want. We are no one to force them into listening to other groups when they are peacefully listening to the group they like. There isn't a rule that you should listen to more than one group. Let the people listen to what they want.
idk if I'm a hybe stan but I just genuinely enjoy most of their group's music. I do listen to other companies' groups ofc but most of the full discographies that I've consistently listened to is from hybe
I only have 3 groups I ever stanned at debut : 2ne1, Woo!Ah!, amd CSR. 2ne1 because they blew me out the water and impress me so much and got me into kpop. As for the other 2 groups ...I'm just so sick of Girl Crush concept so when they came around it was a breath of fresh air lol

the pre debut stanning thing is always interesting to me, cause for example I _did_ stan Purple Kiss before Ponzona was released. However they actually had a YT channel for like 2-3 years before debut where they posted vlogs, vocal/dance covers and other games and stuff, and they also had two pre-release songs and 1thek content (so you could get to know the members and also their talents/abilities). I think Nmixx did a similar thing if I'm not mistaken.
So in cases like that I can completely see why/how you'd stan them at debut, or even before, cause there's actual reasons why you consider yourself a stan. However with the new YG group (baby monster?) or even groups like Lesserafim I don't understand how you can like them before debut, cause what do you even have to go on? How do you know you will like them? Or their music?
For me personally, it's just a feeling. Yes, first impressions is a part of it, but I don't know, sometimes it doesn't take much for me to start stanning a group, or an artist in SUNMI's case, and all these artists are insanely talented whether I stan them or not. I don't think it really matters either way.

I think it's important to consider the nature of a fandom before stanning the group or joining the fandom, because the fandom is essentially the people who also stan the group. If they are toxic, obsessive with the group, hate other groups, treat the members like dolls, it's not a place to be. This is why I unstanned BTS. I'm still a Blink and a Once tho
