yeah girl meets world also got critiqued for the dialogue being unrealistic too, but at least for me I tended to talk and reflect like the characters did long before I watched it. Especially if the dialogue is almost poetic or rhythmic (ex. Shakespeare) it keeps me interested in it and seems to flow well
Also people have to remember these movies and tv shows are *fiction* so they're allowed a little imagination and for things to be a little unrealistic because, well, that's the whole point. It's fiction. So things like that don't bother me.

OKAY, I grew up in an abusive household; saying no is VERY difficult for me. I had my VERY first boyfriend at age 25 and I was having my first kiss with him. He then asked me if he can touch me (down there). I was SO nervous, this was my first sexual experience! SO many thoughts going through my mind, "what if he hates me if I say no, what if he breaks up bc I say no, what if he gets mad??? Should I just let him touch me? Oh GOD what do I do???" I was internally panicking, and in a matter of a second, all panic went away because he verbally said, "btw, it's totally fine if you don't want me to!" So I let out a little squeak of a "no, not now." And guess what, he said, "okay!" And we literally cuddled the whole night watching movies and fell asleep. I'm 28 now and were still together! Point is, the right person will NEVER pressure you and if you think they are going to get upset/mad at you when you lay down boundaries, they are NOT the person you want to be with!
I really love when you get serious sometimes and talk about important issues, like that car scene with Elton and how scenes like this affected you. I'm 25 and I feel like I still needed to hear that. "Setting down your personal boundaries is not hurting someone" is something I might put up on a wall in my room. Thank you! ❤️
To add to your dialogue monologue, I feel like dialogue back in the day was so iconic because it was sassy, witty, charismatic, and "cheesy". I mean, look at all of us now, quoting and being in love with the lines in the shows/films back then. But, when movies or shows try to replicate it now, it comes off cringe because of the way they end up executing it.
I'm completely on her page when she's talking about feeling bad when saying no. It took me 20 years to realize I can say no to sex. Growing up I was taught by not only movies and tv shows, but even church played a huge factor in my compliance. I think it's that way for a lot of young kids. They are conditioned to believe you have to always be complaint. Movies force that idea, church forces that idea, parents enforce that idea. So kids are always taught to say yes and do what their told and that ends up getting us hurt. As I said, it took 20 years and the man I have now to realize Im allowed to say no. I'm lucky to have the guy Im with. Whenever I don't seem like I want to have sex, he doesn't even ask and assumes my answer is no. It's just cuddles from then on. Ladies, it took me 20 years to find a great guy. One who doesn't pressure me, one who supports me through anything, one that always has my back. It will take time to find your perfect partner, just find one who doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. Find someone who puts your safety and comfortability before their wants and desires.

actually for anyone who wants something like cher’s closet machine thing, there’s an app on iphones and ipads called smartcloset and it’s a good bit of work to set up, but it’s soo worth it. you take pictures of all your clothes, you catalog them into the clothing colour, type of clothing, season, and stuff like that, and then when you’re done, you can either scroll through all your clothes and pick an outfit out or you can ask it to randomize you an outfit (you can even specify what you want in it like a top, pants, shoes, etc) and it generates an outfit based on what colours and stuff goes well together

Me explaining why I still don’t have a drivers license at 20 yrs old: *”I have said this many times to people in my life. I have a lot of odds going against me when it comes to driving.”*
I didn’t get mine til I was 25, like I legit procrastinated getting it done for years between work and school and now I’m so comfortable behind the wheel, esp. because I got my license and car in the same week and almost immediately had to drive over the county line every day for a work project.
I'm 15 years old but honestly I'm afraid of the driver's license issue I mean, I get the paranoia to get bumpy or hurt someone. And so far I can't even go by bus because 1. I don't know how to use it at all 2. I can only when it is empty because if it is full I get panic attacks
@@alexandraquiroz1018 mastery and comfort come with practice and time. The best thing for a new driver I believe is routine: driving along the same route, one you’re already familiar with, and night driving. I still to this day prefer driving at night, just empty streets and my radio blasting. Try to preempt high traffic hours by heading out early so you can avoid all that chaos until you’re comfortable. Very few people are “naturals” at driving, it does take some getting used to the depth perception and awareness of the car’s dimensions. Honestly you also might learn better driving with a friend who’s licensed; parents are statistically awful at teaching driving, they can’t get past their own panic and controlling tendencies.
A year ago when I was 15, I got into a similar situation like you. I had thing with this guy, we met up a couple of times and were really good friends. I didn't really had feelings for him and he told me he just wanted to be friends. I was happy about that, because I dont have many friends, I am very introverted. So we met up and we got to his room, where I slightly started feeling uncomfortable. He sat down on his bed and spread his arms open, like he wanted to have a hug. I didn't wanted to make the situation akward so I gave him a hug. He asked me if we want to cuddle (before he would say some pretty self pitty things that no body likes him blabla) I normally dont really cuddle with friends, I dont like the closure to anyone than my parents. But i thought "this is what normal friends do right?" so I agreed to cuddle with him. After a while I got up and was done with cuddling, because I felt uncomfortable. He asked me why i would do than and than he wanted to cuddle more. While we cuddled his hands went to weird places on my body (like butt and waist), places where my friend should not touch me, just a person I love like my boyfriend and he wasn't my boyfriend. I told him to not touch those. He asked me why I was so weird and if I was "ASEXUAL" he also said that this was a totally normal thing to do. He would do it all the time while cuddling with friends. I was like: no, I am not asexual, I just dont want it and stuff. (I know I should just have left by know, but I felt akward all the time and thought that I was just overreacting) So, we began to watch a series (totally unfunny one, but he wanted to watch it and I can't say no to stuff soooo) and he layed his head on my lap, where I didnt feel uncomfortable because he wouldnt toutch my body that way. Later he started to lay down and asked me if I could lay down too, so it would be better for him to watch. This weirdly turned into another cuddling session, where I was (again) feeling weird. THAN he asked me if he could toutch my boobs. (he did really asked, just pointed at them in a weird way) I said no (it would be just weird to freak out at this point, because it was a really calm situation, but I WOULD now if I could time-travel) So he didnt. But later he weirdly brushed with his hands over my boobs and I told him to stop doing that. He was telling me again that it is TOTALLY normal bEcAuSe he is doing this with his friends ALL THE TIME! and that I was asexual and prudish. After a couple of minutes I said I had to go home, he asked me if I could stay and I said no. I quickly went home and felt really guilty on the way. I felt guilty because I thought I should just had said NO louder and that it was my fault. I stopped texting him after that, I wanted to quit the friendship quickly. After a couple of months he asked me if we could met up again and stuff, but I just straight said, I was bussy. To this day, I still have to see him because he is going to my drama class. We talk sometimes. but not more. ALSO thx to anyone reading this, it was a lot I know. I hope you all stay safe. Don't do things that make you uncomfortable, even if you know this person for long.

i’ve always had trouble with saying no but now that you’ve brought up the fact that that situations like this are in movies all the time, i realized that i think i experienced the same thing. i feel like in some movies they focus on the person assaulting someone’s feelings so we can feel bad for them, when it should be the other way around. i’ve always had trouble with saying no, whether it be sexual advances or non sexual advances, and it always makes me feel guilty even though i know i shouldn’t. i love when you have these little “serious” talks during movies because it makes me feel so valid because i usually always relate.

That's really sweet, glad it turned out well
thats really sweet omg 🥺 i know its literally the bare minimum but u always hear of people that just dont respect boundaries whatsoever

Find someone who puts your safety and comfortability before their wants and desires.

yes yes yes about your dialogue rant! in my screenwriting class, we learned that dialogue shouldn't be super realistic and that scripts shouldn't show what we do say irl, but instead what we WISH we had said like hours after a convo and I love that
like quicker/wittier comebacks etc.
Moral of the story, Cher’s style was ahead of her time😌
11:30 i like to think of movies by their purpose: whether they should be enjoyed or watched. you don't watch disney princess movies because they're high cinema, and noah baumbach's dialogue is so realistic it can get exhausting to watch. so i rly agree that dialogue doesn't always have to be realistic, that witty banter is fun to watch and it serves its purpose
Ok I get that this movie was based off of Jane Austen’s “Emma” but WHY DID THEY HAVE TO BE STEP SIBLINGS😀

actually for anyone who wants something like cher’s closet machine thing, there’s an app on iphones and ipads called smartcloset and it’s a good bit of work to set up, but it’s soo worth it. you take pictures of all your clothes, you catalog them into the clothing colour, type of clothing, season, and stuff like that, and then when you’re done, you can either scroll through all your clothes and pick an outfit out or you can ask it to randomize you an outfit (you can even specify what you want in it like a top, pants, shoes, etc) and it generates an outfit based on what colours and stuff goes well together
if an 18 year old saying “when i grow up i want-‘’ isn’t the most realistic representation of an “adult” idk what is-
Thank you so much for talking about how coercion is not consent. This truly hit home for me. I didn’t get mine til I was 25, like I legit procrastinated getting it done for years between work and school and now I’m so comfortable behind the wheel, esp. because I got my license and car in the same week and almost immediately had to drive over the county line every day for a work project.

I'm 15 years old but honestly I'm afraid of the driver's license issue
I mean, I get the paranoia to get bumpy or hurt someone.
And so far I can't even go by bus because
1. I don't know how to use it at all
(I know I should just have left by know, but I felt akward all the time and thought that I was just overreacting)
So, we began to watch a series (totally unfunny one, but he wanted to watch it and I can't say no to stuff soooo) and he layed his head on my lap, where I didnt feel uncomfortable because he wouldnt toutch my body that way. Later he started to lay down and asked me if I could lay down too, so it would be better for him to watch. This weirdly turned into another cuddling session, where I was (again) feeling weird.
THAN he asked me if he could toutch my boobs. (he did really asked, just pointed at them in a weird way)
I said no
(it would be just weird to freak out at this point, because it was a really calm situation, but I WOULD now if I could time-travel) So he didnt.
That must have been crazy uncomfortable! I’m sorry you went through that. I hope you don’t have to interact with him anymore. You don’t need people who don’t respect you in your life. Take care!

i’ve always had trouble with saying no but now that you’ve brought up the fact that that situations like this are in movies all the time, i realized that i think i experienced the same thing. i feel like in some movies they focus on the person assaulting someone’s feelings so we can feel bad for them, when it should be the other way around. i’ve always had trouble with saying no, whether it be sexual advances or non sexual advances, and it always makes me feel guilty even though i know i shouldn’t. i love when you have these little “serious” talks during movies because it makes me feel so valid because i usually always relate.
