Ian getting a lot of stick on the frequency of changes in his bag. I don't mind, I actually love it. If I could tinker with different clubs, shafts, weight adjustments, lofts... I'd change my clubs every week 😂😂
That's what I'm waiting for. I've liked both of these other drivers and they perform better than my old TS3 but can't pull the trigger knowing it's a release year for Titleist. Want to see what they have to offer before deciding.
True, only downside imo is that it's like a MASSIVE downgrade in the looks department imo. The TSR3 is possibly the prettiest driver ever released lol. Adding the branding on the top kinda takes away from it imo.
Maybe its just me but none of these numbers justify dumping $600 plus on a new driver. It is almost comical how close everything is.......Save $$$$$ and wait like 5 years minimum.
TD! Wowee that driver is just so good for you. Great showing from all the big hitters this year. I thought I'd never see you in a Callaway head, but you can't argue with the numbers. Thanks for another great video boys.
Hi Club Champion guys, quick question. First shot of the video, 13.4 Launch, 162.8 Ball Speed, 2186 Spin, carry is 291, total 313.. FlightScope Trajectory Opitmizer has that coming out as 269 Carry, 278 Total at Standard Sea Level, do you mind advising what weather settings you have set on GCQuad?
Fun to watch. It would be fun for myself as an average golfer to have access to such testing. Ian has such knowledge and access and then the ability to actually use what he picks. As average golfers, we don't have the finances to get exactly what we need. Enjoyable to watch true professionals test so thoroughly. I've been to club champion. The fitting I experienced is nothing like this. Fun to watch
I love when Mikey asked how long it will last. The shaft, for now, is staying. Fittings are great but only a snapshot of what a player bring on that day. All of them are great clubs and it was close, during the Bracket, we've seen them all and every time there's slight difference in performance. That's, mostly, Ian. We're human and have frequent changes in our swing, what's important is he is confident in "THAT CLUB" on the next shot.
oh thats awesome. I was looking for a driver fitting near Indy and found a company called Club Champion that did them. I had no idea I was already watching your company's channel on youtube for a while.
Thanks for the video, guys. Its close enough between the 2 that it boils down to feel, and looks. I just got fitted for a new driver and ended up with the Ping max. Replacing my TSR3. Lost consistency. Ping gave me the tightest dispersion by a wide margin, and increased my distance as well.
@wooltron1 got mine last year. That with a diamana zf has been a killer combo. Won't be leaving until it breaks. Even then, I might source another head.
Love these videos. Thank you for doing them. I'm a bit like Ian in that I am changing drivers in and out of the bag quite often. At the moment, the Mavrik Subzero is back and doing very well.
I’ve got the PXG 9* Tour -1 with the Ventus Blue + 6X and that combo is a monster. However my Callaway Triple Diamond with Proxima 6X is a unicorn. That shaft lowers spin but doesn’t lower launch that much. Fly’s forever and still rolls out. Best shaft I’ve ever hit into the wind. Ian- would love to see you test the Proxima out.
As someone who has owned the Ai Smoke TD for 3 weeks now, I can confidently say it's the best driver I've ever hit. Callaway took everything good about last year's Paradym TD and actually improved upon it. Toe strikes now perform like center strikes. I get high launch and low spin on course and the ease of use is off the charts. Never thought I'd be a TD user, since I'm a low launch and low spin player, but this driver is busting the myths.
@@stepyourgameupplaya9360 I did and I just did not get along with it. I am far more confident with deeper face drivers that maybe aren't as wide than I am with shallow faced drivers that are wider. I just couldn't seem to square the Ping 10K up consistently.
Me neither, I don't like hooks, especially pull hooks or floaty fades, I like baby draws and power fades. Seems like Ian only likes it when he hits it well, ME TOO!😂
I finally bought a new driver after nearly 10 years. I played a Taylormade R7 for a LONG time. I tried over the years but nothing really was significantly better. (plus I like the smaller 430 head). But about a month ago I went and tested several drivers at different club fitters in this area. (Titleist, Ping, Srixon, Calloway, TaylorMade) In the end I ended up selecting the PXG Black Ops driver. I am a 10 handicap (use to be a 6) but stopped playing for 8 years (kids, travel work & health issues) but started again about 10 months ago. I am 62 now. With my old R7 I was carrying it 250yds (260 total) when I centered it up. It would drop to about 240 on all other hits on the face. with a pretty wide (left to right) dispersion of about 32 yds. With the PXG driver it was significantly longer on centered strikes 270yd carry (total 280-285yds) - but on my mishits it would still carry 255yd-260yds (270yd total). My dispersion also went down from 32 yds (left - right) to 25 yds left to right. Now I think it's time to get the rest of my bag fitted. I have some large gaps to fill on both ends of my current bag. This driver is incredible.
I loved to see you hit differnt shots shapes for a particular situation ,that you might come across out on the courses, every driver would have 3 or 4 criterias, were you'd be hitting shots on 3 or 4 differnt holes during the fitting, don't get me wrong ill take your game, your swing over mine anyday of the year, but I spoke to a golfer who was at a skill level where movement on the ball was the next step in his golf game, your game is definitely scrach or better, no doubt, your definitely an athlete, I'd love to see a few cuts on a dog leg or high draw over some big trees, I actually love the fade ,cut shot, the draw filght just doesn't fit my eye, when I hit a high cut its a beautiful picture to watch for my eye, but I get it your looking for spin, distance, dispersion, at my level I'm all about looks and feel first and foremost , because I'm not good enough to get out of what these new driver offer, 160 to 180 speed, hahaha in my dreams, carry 230 run out to 250 , I leave an enormous amount of technology on the table using these fine tuned driver heads nowadays. That said I believe in the best product with whatever sporting equipment your buying, because when I'm playing at my highest level I know the equipment is letting me produce high level performance, i hope that rant makes sense to anyone as crazy as I am, hahaha. Thanks guys, always put out content I can process and understand.
This is the driver I think would be best for me as well. I hate to see that hook come into play and would much rather have a little high cut. Definitely going to give it a try!
Was splitting hairs as I tested these two- TD w/ fuji red 6s. Qi 10 w/ AD IZ 6x. I preferred the Callaway because the spin stayed lower on my low mishits. The Callaway also reminded me of the Taylor made r 11 S with a face longer north to south. Was striking it more in the middle. However, swing speeds were the same around 108 and carry distance was around 275 yards.
Great review! If it were me, I would have both of these drivers in the bag!! Triple Diamond on the front 9. LS on the back. And keep doing it until you just reach for The One. That’s what I do when I test irons and drivers. The best one always wins.
Two fitters that know each others tendencies so well. How do you guys see or what’s a maintenance program post fit and or build? Is this in the offerings and how do manage it affordability? 👍
Mikey saying the dispersion is wild...with another group of shots, on a different day, that dispersion is going to be exactly the same as the other clubs. It's a small sample size...hit it often enough, and you'll be just as much offline with a club that is "perfect" for you as any of the clubs you've hit in this video
I agree if I had the access that the he has to golf clubs my golf game would probably suffer tremendously because I would want to try a different set every round or two
My biggest takeway here is if the money isnt an issue, then sure go ahead switch out of the TSR3 for Qi or TD but im not sure either would be worth to upgrade over the TSR3. You would be better to wait til the new Titleist metalwoods are released this summer then decide. Although at that point you will only be 6 months way from the next product cycle from Callaway and TM... Vicious circle. See you in 2025 lads!
I think if you did a custom fit with tour heads and hot melt and heads selected with measured loft for you - any brand could do well here. Callaway had the big advantage. No surprise here
Have you noticed the results in the bay different than IRL on the course? I see more draw (my miss) than I do in the bay and need to factor that in. Thoughts?
Still playing a Taylor Made Sim 2 Max. It’s a fairway finding machine and distance is as good as I can get. Cannot imagine anything being or feeling any better. Not even hitting any of the new stuff. I’m happy and will stay happy.
I feel you have to take everything you see on a launch monitor with a pince of salt. Everything is based on one flight algorithm based on launch and spin at impact. Whereas we know every ball has a different lift and drag profile. So may not fly like flight algo predicts. Good for a baseline and obviously good if your driver is way off.
Totally agree I think launch monitors can easily both over and underestimate driver performance .... would never purchase without seeing the flight outdoors
I think the Callaway TD should be built to 45” instead of 45.5” that right start line should get more neutral. As the boys have noted many times over the years, longer shaft will promote more in-to-out path, which brings in the right start line more into play. Maybe switch shaft to 6X to get the right balance.
Hi, my name is Aaron. I am a golf equipment junkie, and have been for 10+ years... I am proud to be a part of a community of similar minded people. Cheers
Do you have a video that shows the average stats of your driver picks over the course of the last several years? I’m curious how much distance was gained and or how dispersion was tightened up. Is it worth the actual cost of an entire build each year?
Do different driver heads react differently to different shafts? If you find the shaft you like is it best / safe to stick with it regardless of the head you stick onto the end of it?
Question: If you were to take off each of the drivers head and weigh them what would the head weight be? I think not only the with locations available on each of the head varies the performance - but total head weight would also change swing speed, ball speed, launch, spin, swing comfort level.
I have a 10 year old Taylor Made Driver. I hit it straight, but not getting the distance I used too. Do I need a New Driver, or do I need to adjust the one I have and maybe change shafts? Everyone wants to sell me a new driver, but do I need one? Is there really much difference?
Ian, how did having so much experience hitting the drivers through the bracket influence the quality of this fit vs most people hitting the clubs for the first time in the fit itself?
Ian is never going to end up with the Smoke. It did everything he wanted with the tightest dispersion and he was trying to justify using the Qi10 instead. Personal preference is the most important variable.
I got fitted for a Pxg Black Ops driver with a MCA Diamana 50-r shaft length at 45.25 inches . Is there another shaft with a similar profile in the PXG range?
One thing to play with is similar, but the true determiner is how it works on the course. You two need to go play actual golf and let us see if the sim is at all a good barometer.
Would love to see Ian give TSR4 a chance and think the new shaft is to light after speed training. TSR4 with a Ventus TR Blue would blow these combos away.
Ian - When you fit at your level do you ever test if you can fade & draw - high & low.... I think that is a really important thing to look at? We know most all of them go long and straight.
I truly believe that’s overthinking the fitting of the club. The should be a match to the swing tendencies for the player. I never really try to hit draws and fade with the driver during a round. I pick a shape and stick with it.
Ian wakes up with a new swing thought and immediately fits the thought to a new driver until the next thought comes.
100000% and so does 99% of golf addicts who think the driver tech matters anymore. It's marginal at best. But it's the business they are in.
Ian wants that TaylorMade in the bag so bad.
Johnny must be furious 😂
How has Ian been married so long with all these commitment issues? 😂😂😂
He always uses the same shaft........
😂😂😂
A new spouse costs way more than $600
Seperate bank account so mrs can’t tell he spends 10k a month on new equipment 🤣

Ian getting a lot of stick on the frequency of changes in his bag. I don't mind, I actually love it. If I could tinker with different clubs, shafts, weight adjustments, lofts... I'd change my clubs every week 😂😂

$600?? Get fit for a driver with a custom shaft and it’s more like $1300
If you haven’t bought new equipment in last 5 years…. You’re not the target market. 🤣
I bought a new TSr2 head for 250 and registered it with Titleist, also a Fuji Blue TR for 275, saved a bit being patient 😊
I’m doing research for a used driver in 2-3 years ! I’ll pay $300 for a quality used driver
TD! Wowee that driver is just so good for you. Great showing from all the big hitters this year. I thought I'd never see you in a Callaway head, but you can't argue with the numbers. Thanks for another great video boys.
Ian changes swing just so he doesn't have to game a Cobra 😂
That’s what I was thinking also
Right? This is cheesy, really disappointing to see.
He consistently hits the cobra drivers the best. But then he never actually uses a cobra. Make it make sense.
@bradyrowley9389 seriously, that Darkspeed was straight and 10 yards further, I'd be sold if it did that for me
Just put that TD in the bag. Performance is so good!!

He’s gonna play that triple diamond until the new titleist drops this fall. Lol
Need to put the new driver up against the og sim. He hit that driver so well.
I'm putting that driver back in the bag this weekend. Not sure why I took it out to begin with.
@wooltron1 got mine last year. That with a diamana zf has been a killer combo. Won't be leaving until it breaks. Even then, I might source another head.
Still rocking og sim with zf. Cracked one and had to go find another. A few newer models have matched it but nothing has beat it
Just popped the crown off my Stealth, so I've gone back to the og Sim with a Kaili X stiif. Same here, I dont know why I took it out the bag.
Ian’s fighting that Callaway lol

When I watched the pxg in the bracket. Especially first round. It performed unbelievable but now not so much ? Swing change ?
Ian seemed so apprehensive to go with the triple diamond
I’ve played the 💎💎💎 two rounds already this year and i didn’t drive it well at all. Albeit I was using a completely different shaft.
I feel you have to take everything you see on a launch monitor with a pince of salt. Everything is based on one flight algorithm based on launch and spin at impact. Whereas we know every ball has a different lift and drag profile. So may not fly like flight algo predicts.

Ian will play it until he remembers how good the Srixon ZX5 LS numbers were better than the old gamer.
Is there a ventus shaft that is similar to the VF? Blue tr?
Should come back tomorrow and hit the qi10 again against the Callaway. Numbers close enough that going with feel and confidence make sense.
I think the Callaway TD should be built to 45” instead of 45.5” that right start line should get more neutral. As the boys have noted many times over the years, longer shaft will promote more in-to-out path, which brings in the right start line more into play. Maybe switch shaft to 6X to get the right balance.
you will make Johnny Wunder a happy man :)

Come in and swing the TD cold. It's the same as the TSR3. There's not a $600 difference between all 3.
Only 20 minutes long.... Is the video on a time lapse from the last 6 months 😂
Brilliant as always
I got fitted for a Pxg Black Ops driver with a MCA Diamana 50-r shaft length at 45.25 inches . Is there another shaft with a similar profile in the PXG range?
You can go with a Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 50R1... You will not regret!
What shaft is Ian using? I thought they were going tell us, but slide right by it. I know it's been mentioned in a few of the vids.
Graphite designs AD VF 5x.
Ian- wondering why there wasn't a Ping driver in the mix?
One thing to play with is similar, but the true determiner is how it works on the course. You two need to go play actual golf and let us see if the sim is at all a good barometer.
He’s waiting for September when titleist drops the new driver to truly switch
How is the speed training going ?
Would love to see Ian give TSR4 a chance and think the new shaft is to light after speed training.
TSR4 with a Ventus TR Blue would blow these combos away.
If the tsr3 wasn’t accurate I can personally tell you the 4 would be even less
The setup of the ai smoke with triple diamond and 14g forward and 2 back is closer to the TSR4 and that was the best in test.
Yeah, I always hate “the dreaded straight ball” myself! 🙄
