Hi sir... Can i ask you something... Where do i keep the collected pollen on the freezer or only in th refrigirator? How. Many days that i can store the pollen?.. Thanks
It’s only for the rare exotic Dragon fruits that require this type of hand cross pollination. With this container I can probably pollinate 2-3 dozen flowers.
Hi, Richard. I do have many questions. As they are not popular in my country, I am unable to get enough info. Your video is so helpful to me. (Finally growing baby ones with your technique, and am importing different varieties). How to know the one we have is hybrid, and need to be cross pollinated. In another words, which one (among the one you have ) are not needed to be cross pollinated? And vietnam white is the one to be used for all hybrid ones? Or for white fruits, use white fruits pollen, for red, use white fruits pollen etc?
I just did a search and discovered that Halley's Comet (which I purchased at Home Depot) is a hybrid. This means that I will have to hand pollinate them. I bought five of these! Bummer!
Hi James Billy, I hope you are having a good day. Yes, after using the pollen I refreeze it right away. They longer you leave it out, the viability starts to degrade. So if possible, use what you need and store it properly in your ziplock bags with desiccant packs and refreeze it to use again another time in the future.
Hello Richard, I’m a newbie at growing dragonfruit, and having had twelve flowers (all failed) in the first year, I’m now looking forward to seeing how many flowers I get, and what I can do to help fertilise them next time. There seems to be so many different varieties, and not knowing what variety I have doesn’t help any. So as to know if I need to cross pollinate, and with what...is there any way I can find out what variety I have? The only information I can give, is that my dragon fruit cuttings had come from a plant that was about 20 years old, and had climbed throughout a tree to over 50ft high. The leaves are very firm (balky) and have spikes, and although there was signs of having had other flowers, I’ve only known of two fruit that had reached maturity, and these fruit were white of medium size....and tasted good. I’ve since planted cuttings from a friends red variety but have no idea of what it’s called. I’d appreciate any helpful tips you can give, thank you so much. Peter from Shoalwater Western Australia.
Hi Peter, Have you tried to hand-pollinate your Dragon Fruit flowers first to see if their own pollen is fertile? If you haven't already tried this, give it a go and see how it works out. If the flower still fails and aborts then we know it must be cross-pollinated. From there you'll need to have another variety grown in your garden to have other pollen accessible to cross-pollinate when the time comes. It's very difficult for me to identity what kind of Dragon Fruit variety you have with just the description. I would need images of the branches and flower to help you figure that out. Do you use Facebook? Come join my Dragon Fruit community. You can post your pictures in the group and me plus all the members in there would be happy to help you figure this one out. I just re-watched this, and I caught that you said the hybrid was self sterile. Does that mean that all hybrids are self sterile and non-hybrids are self pollinating?
Hellow i want to ask you if i can pollinate the red dragon fruit(redskin/red flesh) with the pollen of the colombian yellow fruit (yellow skin white flesh) and vice versa would it work? Wht would be the results? Thank you so much ur videos have been helpful
My goal is to hybridize Sugar Dragon with the Ecuador Palora Yellow Dragon fruit. Those are the two varieties I want to mix together and see what it produce! Will be grafting a bunch of those seeds to see what comes out. 🤙🏼
Grafting Dragon Fruit My plan is to cross breed the Palora and the Moroccan Red variety, I have traveled everywhere and never found Red variety that can be compared to Moroccan Red sweetness, I got 19-21 Brix on my refractometer, self pollinate variety and large fruit that always get 1.5 to 2 lbs range.
Wow!! Didn’t know that this specific type won’t be able to pollinate on their own. Great info!! ☺️
Thank you!

Holy crap I didn't know you need to do stuff like this. How many dragon fruit can you pollinate with that small jar you saved?

Hi Merrilee M., Not to fear, all you have to do is get a Sugar Dragon or Vietnam White. Their pollen will make your Haley's Comet set fruit!
Richard do you take that pollen form that flow for another hybrid
Hi Richard. Can you refreeze and reuse the frozen pollin for feature flowers,GOD BLESS.

Hi! Does freezing pollen have effect on producing larger fruits or it's just for storage purpose?

If you will get a fruit from that flower don’t eat, you have a hybrid seeds, and you will be able to name your own varieties.
