An Unforgettable Rescue Move at Greenlawn

- Around noon yesterday LI 165 began its journey out to Port Jeff yard to bring back 409/5021 with 4 cars, but the crew expired and ended up tying down unexpectedly in Greenlawn's second track. When the next crew arrived they encountered brake issues with 165 and couldn't get moving again, which meant the train had to remain there through the night until additional power could arrive. Just before noon today I was surprised when I heard they had sent out 416/5020 as rescue power, meaning the 1500 would be stuck between the passenger sets on either end. The final consist ended up being 5020/416/165/5021/409 + 4 cars, all in Greenlawn's seldom used second track. Definitely a rescue move to remember...

Incredible footage! Nice to see 416, the last unofficial sticker unit with its sole M logo under its number, serving as the rescue train for the Meep. Definitely one of your greatest catches at Greenlawn yet!
I happened to be on an M7 into the city that Saturday and this rescue set passed us in between New Hyde Park and Floral Park.
What a rare consist and move! It would have been even more cool had the rescue train crossed Broadway at the same time as the regular westbound train. In the many times I traveled out of Greenlawn Station from 1986-2020, I only recall seeing passenger equipment once on Track 2. It was when track work at the crossing closed Track 1, and I got off the train on the south side. Oh, and I notice that the team track was taken out at some point.
Wow, I'm surprised they actually let passengers out on the south track. There was a train that broke down in the station and the whole branch was shut down, as opposed to just using the siding.
Nice catch‼
The guy crossing the tracks at 1751 had me laughing I said to myself there goes a guy without a care in the world crosses the tracks before the gate arms go up and never looks right or left at the second track to see if there's another train coming🤦♂️
I saw him glance both directions
Lots of good K5LA's out that evening.
DPU LIRR style lol. Awesome!!
Great catch 👍
Yes 416!! 👏 My favorite loco!!
I get a kick of of 423 which was converted from a 500 series. If you look the “423” from the right angle in the sun, it looks like they took a rough edged paint scraper to the old numbers. The metal is all scratched up under the new numbers.
Great footage.
Thanks
How do you keep on catching these failing diesels haha
Awesome 💯😎
Amazing video! New subscriber!
Stop Look And Listen 😾😭
Definitely a move to remember
For sure
7:50 Greenlawnnnnnnn!
12:55 Clunk!
They sent out a crew that had a short time leash? Sounds like the clown show that is the MTA>
love the thrum of an EMD. Are LIRR diesels not required to have flashing ditch lights while the bell is ringing?
There were a few 1500s that had flashing ditch lights back in the 90s iirc, but they've all been removed since then. To be honest I'm not sure why units don't have it equipped nowadays
The FRA rule only requires ditch lights. Flashing or not is up to the railroad mechanical departments discretion.
11:35 me personally I think I would have busted my ass doing that😭
