Be sure to upgrade, and use dexos vi. GM recommends all automatic transmissions be filled with this latest oil, as it provides better wear protection to clutch material, and smoother cold shifts. I find it amazing how shops fill cars up with universal fluids. Chemistry is very important, and to introduce the wrong ph into such a complex machine is just asking for trouble. My 4t80e in my 120,000 1996 Deville shifts and performs just fine, and always has since its purchase in December 1996. I also have a 2002 Chevy with the 4t65e at 165,000 and it also shifts and performs like new from September 2002.
1. Raise and support vehicle, then place drain pan under transaxle fluid pan to catch fluid. 2. Loosen bottom pan bolts in proper sequence and drain fluid into drain pan. 3.Removing fluid pan will only partially drain transaxle fluid. Remaining fluid is held in side cover and torque converter; removing drain plug in case after fluid pan removal will drain fluid from side cover. It is not necessary to drain torque converter during most service procedures. 4.Remove fluid pan and transaxle case bolts, pan and gasket. this is via the gm service manual, you will see the drain plug right above the hole where the bigger of the two filters inserts into the transmission.
I have a 99 seville sts i check the transmission dip stick before i started the car in the morning and warmed up while idling. It was at the bottom tip of dip stick so i poured half an quart. After watching your video I didn't know you had to switch through the gears and then checking . Should i try take out half quart or you think ill be good if its half quart over filled???
on a warm / hot engine, how high should the transmission show to be full? mine is right in the middle where it says HOT, it's right on the O. Should it be higher than that? my instrument panel is blinking so I was told that that means I need more fluid. I don't want to over fill it. Please help with any information. Thank you ... I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville with 20,000 miles on it.
D JT if the engine is cold It should be at the bottom of that range. If the engine is hot it should be up to the top of that “range” on the dipstick.. just get motor up to operating temp and fill till you are full at the hot mark.. a little over won’t hurt anything but try and stay just at that line
@Glen Pointe good information Thank you. I use Mobil-1 oil and filter I believe it's M1-206A. Change at every 5-6K Transmission is original to 1999 Deville with 114.000 I purchased it from a elderly widow it was her husband's he passed so alot of history was lost but I can absolutely tell the car was well taken care of. I plan on dropping the Transmission pan and cleaning it & replacing both filters the manual states it has 2. I believe the Tranny fluid is a Mercon 6

Don't forget the recommended 0-20 Dexos 2 oil. PH balanced for G.M.s

U forgot the drain plug that holds an extra 2 quarts the drain plug is behind the strait screen filter
