Hi Friends! Here is a quick and easy stocking made with a granny square. Each one takes about 15 minutes to make and is ideal for scrap yarn! If you want a full sized stocking you can find the tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/QQkd7EcsFxY/v-deo.html
Thank you for helping me learn and understand crochet! Most other tutorials on UA-cam just show you a pattern to just copy them. But what is a crocheter without a pattern!!! If you don't know the why's and how's you can't learn and understand to create your own designs. You teach in a way that describes, explains, and tells the why; and for that i will support big time because i am self taught through the internet and UA-cam. I want to learn and understand the craft of crochet totally! Thank you so much again. Your brilliant...❤
Oh my goodness, thank you so much , sweetheart 😭❤️❤️❤️ I’m so grateful that this has come across in my videos … that is my objective and it makes me so happy that the videos are providing that. You have made my day. Thank you so much for your kindness to me and the channel. 😘😘😘
Thank you for this cute project. I am very new to crochet, its only been about six weeks. I have already made a granny square scarf for myself. I'm going to make these little stockings for friends and co-workers.
@@PlayHookywithMe Its been a few weeks now and I've made about 20 of them. I'm planning to give this to friends and coworkers. I really appreciate how easy and relaxing it was to make. I enjoy your videos a lot and am looking forward to making more things. Thank you!
Realized this year i had not made one for my youngest child. Haven't made one in years so i had forgotten the pattern. So glad to have found you. Thank ypu for your lovely tutorial
This is my favorite stocking! Having fun using different color combos. Been using traditionall red, green and white but made one yesterday I like with rose in center, sage green next and then black as the final round, Sc trim and chain with rose. Thanks so much!
I did these as gifts for a large group. I used 3 skeins of 7oz yarn (red, white and green) and they made about 60 of them. These are cost effective and easy but still unique and hand made! Great patten, thank you!
This is the absolute cutest granny square project ever! I'm definitely making a advent calendar today for the kids. It may be the 3rd but that's OK. Thanks so much for this project ♡
I just made my first wee stocking! Thank you for providing such clear, easy to follow instructions. I sincerely appreciate it. Now I’m off to make a few more. 👍🏼😊
Thanks for this video. My mother used to make these for my two sons to take to school to share with their classmates (they are in their 40s now) . She always put a candy cane in each. I learned how to crochet during the pandemic & have been looking for this pattern.
Thank you for this video. I have made a few mini stockings but they usually just look like a folded granny square. thanks to this video I can now make them look more like a stocking. Thank you for the great tip on using the half double crochet stitch to join the rows of the granny square together. Hugs
These are adorable! I’d been in a crochet funk and just wasn’t doing too much with all this yarn I’ve collected. This is exactly what I needed to get the love for it again that I’d been missing. I kept starting and not finishing projects 😢. Just made two of these I can’t wait to make more tomorrow! Thank you for the excellent tutorial and the adorable pattern!
That makes me happy to read it inspired you to pick up your hook! 💕🌲 sometimes we just need something that gives us immediate results that we can enjoy . I know that has happened to me too .
Thank you really explaining..My mom showed me how to crochet when I was 8 ,so it has been a long time since I crochet,Since I have been on dialysis I picked crocheting back up..Thank you for sharing ❤️
Thank you for this tutorial. You are so thorough and clear. It is really adorable! Will definitely put it on my Christmas tree, along with my mini sweater and beanies. 💜😎🇺🇸
I used to make these back in the '90s. I enjoyed making them so much. I made a ton of them and stuck little candy canes in them. I also remember adding a piece of yarn to hold the bottom portion up a little more. To make it look more boot-like.
I had so much fun making these. I have given so many away for Christmas. I found some other Christmas ornaments I liked and crocheted them. I gave them in lots of three. 🌍☮️🌲

❤You are Awesomeness!!!! (That's awesome +sweetness altogether) ! I love granny's. I'm 60 yrs. old I learned to crochet by watching my mom around 6yrs. I've never been able to figure out how to make 3D things... unless I watch someone. You made this so simple. It's kind of funny. I crochet doilies but simple things like this go right over my head. 😅 When you showed how to make the toe and fold! Wham! You did it.😊 I'll be making tons of these for R.A.O.C.K's (random acts of crochet kindness) ... thank you. &I'll be checking out the large size for family. ❤, Lori
Meeting you for the first time today. All I can say is it's a good thing I took the dogs' food out of the freezer last night and it's been a long time since we had a Chinese take-out anyway! Have had a lovely time making a fair few of these today. Christmas tree is most appreciative of the time and effort you've put into making your tutorial. Liked and subscribed (with notifications). Obviously! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Your videos always come with little tricks such as that half double crochet finish, and they make my crochet very neat! ❤️
The oh so wonderful granny square. 😁So, so many uses for this little pattern. I love the look and the concept of this stocking. I just had to make one this morning. I changed up the traditional color changes by using a solid ecru cotton and running sparkly gold (or silver) #10 thread for the entirety of the project. My results are outstanding and rather elegant for a granny square pattern stocking. I'm impressed with this little, quick pattern. Thank you Roz. This little cutie has my mind wandering color-wise.💖

Good morning Roz and a happy Tuesday to you . Someone gave me a pair of those mini stocking a few years ago and I always find room for them on the tree . I think they are cute , but I like your idea of making a garland as well. I've even thought of making other ornaments but the problem is I don't like working with fine crochet thread or steel hooks because I get pinched and that creeps me out . Do you have any suggestions on what size cotton yarn I could use that won't be too thick ? I wish we had more craft stores in Canada because I love to see and feel what I'm buying rather than online . Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day along with the boys .
Hi Angela , a fingering weight yarn would be a good compromise . You could work with a 2.5 or 3 mm hook. That way it would be small but not necessary to use the steel hooks.
👍🏻👍🏻💕
Knitpicks, hobbii, love crafts are good resources . I’m sure you have your favorites as well.
I’ve been wanting to try scheepjes catona . I’m like you, though, I wish I could touch the yarn or see it in person but here in the US it’s limited too.

Is there a way to make this bigger than a snack size piece of candy? Maybe large enough for a gift card or maybe even bigger?
You could try a thicker yarn and hook and an extra round and see if that will get it to the size you want . I haven’t tried, so I can’t say for sure 🧶💕
@@PlayHookywithMe Thank you for the quick reply. I was wondering about adding additional rounds...but then would you also elongate the toe area too? I guess I will be trialing and frogging my way through the holiday. lol
@ 😆 hope you find a great solution 🧶❤️
💗wow
So can I make the square bigger to accommodate a gift card?
Yes you can - I tried it and it works but the toe portion looks short . I think I added 2 extra rounds. Maybe doing a double treble instead of a treble would help shape the toe better. I’d recommend trying that if you do it.
Let me know how it goes!

Thanks - I’ve made 2 so far like the video, but I keep having trouble with the hanger. It just doesn’t look right
@@MarthaM4858 I really don’t know how to help with that since I’m not sure what you’re doing . Not sure why it would look different.

I have a question, sometimes when I make these I end up on the bottom to chain off instead of on top. Do have any idea what I’m doing wrong?
Hm , not quite sure unless you’re turning your work a certain direction when you fold the sides together and it changes the orientation somehow 🤔
How can u make them bigger please
I’d recommend a larger hook and weight of yarn . You might also try an extra round on the square you make 🧶
