Let me know how the process worked for you?
No problem
A complete nightmare ,as Seniors we are not "Tec Savy" even our Son got nowhere.... how can you tell my Husband his Email Info is incorrect?? You should have used the same same process as Lowe's...done in 5 mins! If this isn't corrected guess who'll get all our business???
I just had another terrible experience with the military discount program at Home Depot. I have also just sent a scathing letter to their customer email. After all the time setting this up, it often will not load in the store to get the discount code. It took me 30 minutes today to buy a light bulb, and the discount code never loaded fully. I had to grab the store manager, who said they are hearing a lot of complaints about this program. I urge everyone to send a note to Home Depot about this. The only thing worse than no military discount, is to make it a harassment program. My elderly father who was a Vietnam combat veteran, does not set up things on websites and carry around an app. This whole thing is an insult, when they say they appreciate your service.
Ya the new program sucks
I agree. HD sucks when it comes to pulling up the military so-called QR code at the store. Lowes you just need to show your drivers license. Your local DMV has a little American flag bottom right, after you show them (DMV) proof that you served. I believe it’s your DD-214. At least you don’t have to go to 3 different screens to get your military QR code.
Home Depot's veterans discount is a joke. A while back I spent over $800 for lumber and my military discount was $5.35 due to restrictions of the discount for lumber items. Apparently the discount is NOT honored for lumber.
Went to HD this morning, (7-31-22), and they wouldn’t accept my VA card any longer. Don’t have a smart phone. Also never going to upload any documents, (dd214), with personal information. Screw you Home Depot.
A lot of the info you can black out they just want to see your name and dates of service
I have an old android phone and cannot get the Home Depot app, which means I can't walk into their store and make a purchase after the end of January 2022. This shows how much Home Depot values veterans. Veterans should boycott Home Depot and shop at Lowes.
Yeah Lowes gives you a card. But you could order online then pickup in-store.
@@Hindsight101 Lowes 10% Military discount was moved to online registration about a year ago. Simple online form you compete - there is no card - just give them your phone number at the register - they confirm the name and that's it. SO MUCH BETTER THAN CURRENT HOME DEPOT APP.
Yesterday - self checkout - after logging in on my iPhone App in the parking lot and finding the "refreshed" QR Code - shopped for 10 Minutes - had to go out to the parking lot to update App THREE TIMES before the scanner would accept the "updated" QR Code. THIS IS REDICULOUS. This happens at two Chula Vista CA Home Depots. Can't update the QR Code in either store - must go out into the parking lot. . . . .
lowes is generally more expensive than HD.
Yes it usually is
Oh, and I agree with some of the comments below, Lowe’s treats the veterans far better. While the Home Depot is closer to me, I now drive the extra couple miles to get to the Lowe’s where they just check your phone number that was placed in the system easily. All these companies want you to use their app so they can track and collect data. Why do we have to do any work to get the discount they supposedly offer.
I understand
It doesn’t matter to me. I drive right past HD to go to a Lowe’s 3 miles further away because of HD’s policy towards vets. I go to Lowe’s, show them my “MyLowes” card…they say, “Thank you for your service “ and record the purchase so I don’t have to worry about keeping receipts.
In my area home Depot is much nicer
Just wanted to add to your note that back home NY state I registered my husband at Lowe's and no card is need at check out they have it in the system that has his name and all they ask is his phone number. This HD I just can't get through to getting it on my phone for my husband, he's 81 and won't use a cell phone so I'm trying to do this for him but no luck it's nerve racking. Besides, one time you show card the next at HD you're handed this paper on how to down load it on phone.
@@arlenemac7236 I'm trying to do the same thing for my father who is 89. They make it so damn complicated! My father doesn't even know what a app is....hell he doesn't even have a cell phone! I really don't want their stupid app on my phone. You should be able to enter information, success then print out a card and my father can carry it with him all the time. Simple. He wouldn't need me to go with him every time w/my phone.
I go to lowes. Just show my ID. Thus is taking way to long to upload
Discount EXCLUDES lumber, building materials, appliances and other items. $400 discount per YEAR.... Heading back to LOWES where VETERANS are treated BETTER..... UPDATE: Lowes has changed their policies, too!!
Fkn aye right! You hit that one on the nail!
Lowes is SUPPER EASY - you do need to complete an online form and provide a phone number. All you do is give the clerk that number - they confirm your name - and it's done. No $400 cap - not sure about discount for appliances - have not tried it for an appliance yet.
Thank you very much. I tried it and left out one step the first time. When I tried your video I had no problems. I really appreciate your help and directions, you made it very easy.
You're welcome I'm glad to help
I tried to set this up finally went to store ,they supposedly got it set up so all I had to do was fill in Military Info...it kept saying my Husbands email was no good ! My Son , also a Vet , tried for over an hour to do this "simple" task.My Husband now says he'll go to Lowe's, as Seniors we don't have all this electronic stuff and our phones are more or less for Emergencies...with Lowe's it took maybe 10mins to register for our discount ,whereas it seems Home Depot really doesn't give a damn or want our business !!
Home Depots " We value your Service is a load of rot"
Pretty sad for older Veterans not familiar with new cellphones they should show a little respect to older Vets and find a easier way for them to sign up for the military discount, I asked 2 people in the store they said you have to go on line really, no respect differant time then when I grew up!😤😢
Home Depot has chipped away at the military discount to the point where I'm going to shop at Lowes most of the time. $400 limit per year, and only on specific items. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at Home Depot and Lowes, and I'm keeping my eye on how Home Depot pushed it's military discount, with a female vet V.P. over the program, but when you read the small print, it's not the deal it used to be.
And their online App - required to get the QR code - DOES NOT WORK INSIDE THE STORES. And there is no option - go outside and Log Out then Log In and HOPE the QR updates. WHAR A MESS.
@@jimshy46 I have a problem logging in both in HD and Lowes. Good point! I've tried to stay away from Home Depot since the QR code thing.
here's another 'update' as of July 2022.
Went in the local HD last week for some lumber ... upon checking out went over the speel 'as always' of not owning a cell phone since its deemed a 'mandatory part of life' by HD thou I've registered for the military discount online (IF HD wont pay for my cell phone n' svc line I'll bring up the issue every time).
SO I flash my Military ID which all cashiers go into their speel of not being able to attach it for the past 3 months or so but somehow do for me thou this time ---- it didnt take for another reason. HD no longer gives a military discount on lumber !!! Go figure - they 'finally' adapt their policy to give 'ALL' verterans the 10% discount for 2022 instead fo just active n' disabled THEN 6 months later - depart from it and take away the main reason vets go to HD - for lumber !!! Good riddens HomerD - tired of the continuing bullchit policies !!!
Home Depot was losing millions giving 10% discounts to Military people. All you had to do was show your military ID at the register at checkout , active, retired, whatever, and it was done. "Thank you for your service"! As I said, costing them a fortune. So, some bright HD SOB said, "We don't need no stinking official Military ID issued by the department of defense, no! Make them go through a vetting process, then have them bring up a code on their cell phone at check out. It will be such a pain, instead of just flashing their official ID, (they use for medical and everything else Military), few will bother with it saving HD millions! Damn good Idea and it was done. Come on, guys and gals, BOHICA! Send HD a message! Tell them about it. Shop anywhere else if possible!
This really is ridiculous and difficult for some of our seniors you should be ashamed😡
Can't get through want all personal info and upload dd-214 etc wast of time
the hd ceo should be fired. lowes treats veterans much better
Well, so now they desire to get ALL veterans and not just the ones that are service connected right? Which has been their official policy for years. And Lowes did it for every veteran at least now for like 4 years? Maybe longer? And no app required, just a Lowes card. I doubt I'll be running through hoops to join Home Depot. I've since got a VA disability rating but still only use Lowes. Home Depot dissed a lot of veterans when Lowes took us in regardless of disability status or not. I will never forget that.
I'm not saying home depot is good or bad just letting people know how to get the discount now
@@Hindsight101 well thank you honestly for helping veterans out. Just saying it's better at Lowes the way they do it versus HD. To have to dig in your phone, enter passwords, which I probably forgot all ready, to pull out the code, its a hassle. Lowes just show your Lowes card or give them your phone number. Plus they have veteran parking too, no crazy limitations..
Very true and I have a video on how to do the Lowe's so I try to be fair
On my iPhone the QR code is shown under the "Military Discount >" fly out. Thank you as it got me to the correct place in the labyrinth menu system. 4/9/22.
I accidentally said the wrong location but I did put it in the notes of the video and I figure if you get that close to it you'd see that it was the next option down from that so hopefully people see it. But thanks
I still have a flip phone so I cannot use it for the discount even though I have a current retired US Army ID Card
That's a lot of peoples complaint
Straightforward video, excellent.
I hate videos that drag on so thanks
God bless you my dude, easiest tutorial, (here I thought it was gona be a pain) thank you
You're welcome
Last time going to Home Depot! Can’t use the app since my phone is older. A week ago the clerk gave me a VA discount anyway, today a different clerk couldn’t be bothered with it. It’s just another way to get people to constantly upgrade their devices when the one they currently have works fine. Plus what old timer is going to use an App for this discount. Lowes is the better option just type in my phone number, show them my card and discount applied.
Same happened to me. Last week showed my VA card and got the discount. This morning different guy wouldn’t accept my card.
Your are the bomb!!!! Thank you!
You're welcome
Thank you, Im in I.T. and was raging at the App. The Home Depot Web Page instructions are " Naviagate to the Military discount page " well no s**T Home Depot.. WHERE is that ?
Sometimes I think a lot of people who design apps don't actually use their apps
The big problem is , if your iPhone can’t download 13.0 or later updates you can’t get the Home Depot app.
Thanks for the info I mostly us android
Ya. What he say
i tried many time to apply for my military discount and no luck. ive been both a home depot and lowes shopper for ove 35 years and sadly will no longer shop at either store. thjey do not honer veterans because they refuse to help you process your application in person.
Do you have questions I might be able to help?
Your only duplicating their instructions which is not very helpful. most veterans I have talked to want the instructions on how to upload document to HD. Remember HD does not have any real interest in giving discount. I have tried calling Corp. Office and there is no help there.
What questions do you have?
It's nice now, like Lowes, they now offer the discount with online purchases also.
But HD has a $400 limit each year for how much discount you can accumulate. I don't believe Lowes has a limit
@@Hindsight101 Oh. I didn't read the fine print on it.
Panzy shit here! It isn't like Lowes. At Lowes you get your Lowes card in the mail and it automatically scans your discount. You don't have to download an app and check out with your phone. My phone cant handle more apps.
@@comm2531 At Lowes, I just give them my phone number. The wife even uses it on the rare times she's ever gone there without me. HOWEVER.... I hearing now, a rumor that as of March 9th, Lowes will be putting restrictions on what they allow the Military discounts on. So, looks like HD started offering it easier, and Lowes is making it harder and less usable. Maybe. have to wait and see.
Thank you
Welcome
This can be done through the mobile app, as well.
You can apply through the app wow thanks for the info
Spouses of veterans who died in line of duty (active) and like myself, received the discount for years seems to be excluded from Home Depot’s new discount program now as well. I tried several times (in store and at home) to register using their new SheerID verification system (uploading the correct information) ~ and SheerID’s response continues to be: “Documents do not match”. I don’t blame them, l blame Home Depot for excluding us…Shame!
What form did you upload I had issues with my dd214 and had to use another
@@Hindsight101 : Mind you, I tried to apply using their Spouse link, so I’m not sure if the questions were identical to the other option. So going that route, (Spouse - Retired Army) l was told by the HD clerk that l needed to know my late husband’s Date of Separation, which l didn’t know at the store but located on his DD- 214 at home. The “document” she had me upload at the store was MY military ID that showed my husbands name and military status as deceased.
I had issues getting verified in the past, didn't bother to upload anything. Somehow today, I was able to register through the normal process. Maybe the SheerID don't have all the data records yet??
@@tonymosley6951 I had to try about 3 or 4 times before I got it right
@@Hindsight101 All this digital data can cause frustration, especially for the senior vets.
Note that HD *requires* a smart phone in order to receive a military discount, even if you've registered online for the discount.
What genius there at corporate thought that REQUIRING a smart phone in order to receive the Military Discount was a good idea? I guess they don't understand that not everyone has a smart phone.
I guess I’ll shop Lowes from now on. I *don't* need a smart phone there.
They want you to download the app to gather information from you for marketing purposes. More companies are doing this and invading your privacy. I hate it.
Thanks for the video, I am upset about the change Home Depot made 😡
A lot of people are
Should service members be adding their info to services like these?
That's a good question
My husband died and I didn’t realize it was also for spouses. That being said, I think I threw away his military papers past week or two. I’ll check to see if paper r in trash.
Yes see if you can find it that stuff you should always keep
@@Hindsight101 keep even when they have been dead for 4 months. I do have his drivers license with the veterans logo. Just for curiosity sake who would have told me to keep military things forever? ??? You just now hindsight’s 20/20
@@darlenebennett9684 you get benefits being his wife some you may still qualify for but they will always ask for the records. And it's a chore to try and get copies from the military.
And you can’t get discount on certain items as well as a $400 annual cap on discount. Fuck Home Depot. Don’t want there bullshit discount policy I’ll shop elsewhere
I tried this for the first time today. Thank you so much for this great video. It was even easier for me than what you had to do. I did not have to upload a document, just my date of discharge and date of birth, then - boom - I was verified. Opened up the app and it worked perfectly. The whole process took me about 5 minutes, including watching your video.
Oh, I also meant to add that when I logged into my online account, I already had items in my shopping cart, and the discount was applied to the one that qualified. Someone said this doesn't apply to online shopping, but apparently it does right now, for select items.
Awesome
Good Presentation
Thank you
Dereck, Can you use tax exemption with military discount?
www.reddit.com/r/HomeDepot/comments/ogki2m/military_discount_and_tax_exempt/. It seems like it varies by store
I'm absolutely not comfortable uploading any form of documentation for your records to get this discount.. My ID in person should suffice..
unfortunately thats the way a lot of sites are going
My Husband uses a flip phone and cannot get the app on it either. Is there some other solution for these disabled vets who served their country to get the discount?
I know it's not the greatest but you can by everything online the do store pickup or ship to home. Once you have applied for the military discount through home depot's verification process
There is a known phenomenon that if you make a task too difficult, folks will just throw up there hands and say, "The hell with it." So now Home Depot can CLAIM they're Vet friendly without having to actually provide a service.
Very true this is why I made the video
This doesn't appear under profile for me
Do not click on profile but in the same area profile is locate scroll down the page and you will see military discount
Surprise: The Home Depot Military Discount "new" procedure is a DISASTER! I'm 82 and never had to scan anything before....I have a piece of paper that says SUCCESS! You've been verified but i can't download the APP or get the QR Code.....help!
What mode phone do you have?
My QR code failed today. Worked fine last week. The same phone was used both times. Could it be an update was in progress? Can I force an update somehow?
What do you mean it failed? The QR code didn't display?
Served 29 years, combat, wounded; OK. I do think HD"s new requirement to have a SMART PHONE is real dumb, and smacks of a kickback or spamming op. I do not have or want a smart phone; I do not need to show all what my morning bowel movement looked like. HD corporate has been telling me fantasies about their commitment to fix what several HD executives have told me was a dumb implementation. We'll see. That aside. I have seem many who never served find ways to claim a mil discount unfairly. I've had receipts of over $6,000 and had the discount capped at $500; OK. In past, when neighbors break their drills on a project I'm helping them with and I visit HD, I ask for separate receipts; my neighbor doesn't deserve the discount; my honor. I can accept, don't like, but accept, if HD wants to put a $400 per year cap on me; It is their honor program, not a benefit the government agreed to in my enlistment papers. There are many HD stores that never offer a discount, and I've driven 30 miles past them to a Lowes; my pride my choice. HD's prices are generally about 5% more than I find at local hardware stores or through mail order, and that 10% used to tip the scale HD's way. Now, I will shop at HD when it makes sense considering this new environment, and go to Lowes or Ace when that makes sense. I do not see this as HD dishonoring veterans, but their implementation and their executives' and managers' words/actions have been downright childish.
Have totally stopped shopping at hd
Since this roll out, though there are some positives overall changes are worse. First, you need a smartphone that world with app. Not everyone likes smartphones. Second, you have to dig into the app to get QR code, very inconvenient. Also some stories cell reception limited so if in store wifi not working in trouble. Then there's restrictions; from lumber, electrical, to appliances. So if you want to get that 79 dollar drill or dremel no discount. Then there's cap at 400 dollars in savings. I get it few folks abused it but little oversight. First, for people who are active duty or in reserves probably not going to abuse it. There's difference between military doing home improvement project or buying bunch appliances since they just moved vs contractor his done multiple jobs. Also allow showing military if and store employees just need five minute training on fakes. Then have separate category for vets and dependence. Allow them to but appliance, electrical, or lumber but not in bulk quantity. Also if person is contractor then can't use discount. Last, I heard home depot made good profits so nit like this was causing them to lose a lot of money and helped bring loyalty
Not worth the hassle. But thank you for the video.
No problem and understandable
Both Lowes and Home Depot have similar systems. And both have lost my business.
I received the notice that said I now have the 10% discount but need to download on my iphone. That's where I got lost. Can you help me with that.
Do you know how to download the app to your phone?
@@Hindsight101 no

Lol
Home Depot sucks.
No discount for lumber!
It's definitely not what it used to be
EASIER TO USE AMAZON
Lol but no discount
Home Depots military discount is a joke and not worth the time to sign up for. I don't expect a discount for voluntarily serving my country but at least have the decency to honor a discount instead on advertising a military discount for PR purposes. Taking my business to Lowes.
To each his own
@@Hindsight101 Waht does "to each his own" have to do with it?
Not everyone feels the way you do
@Hindsight101 I guess your ignoring the majority of comments on your own video. That coupled with countless other negative comments on the internet related to the discount program seems to indicate more people agree with my point of view as opposed to yours.
@@common-sense-is-dead I never gave a point of view. I'm just offering information to those who want it. I don't disagree with you. But some says it's better than nothing
Will never shop WOKE/RACIST Home depot again ever. Cut that card in half and gone. If your questioning this check there employee forms and applications. Its disgusting, sorry dude.
Hey that's your choice. I'm just wanted to share info for those that wanted it. Thanks for the comment
Woke and racist are the opposites.
I just shop at Lowes now
