Hi! My name is Loretta, a girl from the U.S. who moved to Japan! I moved to Japan on the MEXT scholarship and recently graduated with my MBA. Here are some answers to common questions:
1. Do I Speak Japanese? Yep! I was taught formally in High School and have been speaking now for over 15 years.
2. What University did you go to in Japan? I'm a recent grad of Yokohama National University's "Masters of Business Administration" Program
3. How old are you?: Year of the dragon. :D The math is up to you.
4. How did you get into Japanese school?: tinyurl.com/yb8yylch
5. What camera equipment do you use?: I film my videos with a Canon 60D using a 30mm Sigma Art Lens and I edit with Sony Vegas Pro 10 (with some help from photoshop). Additional cameras include GoPro Hero 7 Black and DJI Majic Air

🐶🐶Pst, There's a surprise guest at the end 🐶🐶
A NEW BATCH OF APARTMENTS! We ran out of time to see apartment #6, but of 1-5 so far, which do you like? 😁
KemushiChan ロレッタ Why am I getting excited like I’m getting a new apartment ... lol. Can’t wait to see what you guys pick, thank you for sharing this with everyone. Ganbatte !!!!
KemushiChan ロレッタ I think I like apartment #2 best.
#5 is my favourite
I definitely like 5, it's really spacious and has a nice balcony
THE LAST ONE IS SO PERFECT. Like that's where i'd live.
I feel like IM getting a new apartment 😂
I like the 4th one cuz I love huge open living room and a bedroom next to a balcony plus I think the walk in closet is nice XD
That closet is verryyyyy inticing
( ゚∀゚)ノシ
That closet is rarely found in japanese apartments!
_Love the editing on these videos._
Thanks for the video! I love that you carried us along for the journey, I learned so much. I plan on doing the JET program after I get my graduate degree but I want to stay in Japan long term so knowing the process and a convenient way for me, a foreigner, to get what I need is great. This will be valuable in the near future. I look forward to the next video.
This has been so much fun to watch!
I can’t wait until I move to Japan
The last one was brighter which i liked but the one with closet space an balcony was pretty good
Yesss these videos are great, they're giving me LIFE!
Oooo yeah!!! ❤️😁😁😁
I wish I could find a video of some sort on how to find a job before moving there as I live in New York w my associates degree in early childhood education...your videos are really inspiring and fun and I feel like I’m missing out on my dream world of living in Tokyo
Teaching English is an extremely common route - and since it's in education it might provide a decent path to doing what's related to your degree
These videos are making me want to move again! I loved looking for my apartment in Tokyo, but as a foreigner the experience could've been a lot smoother. My last realtor made me listen to him talk to landlords for on the phone, so I got to hear in real time that I was rejected for being a foreigner! 😬😬 It wasn't fun hearing that up to 20 times.
Such a tough decision! They're both quite nice and well located. The first one is really nice because of the entry, mini patio and slightly larger size. This video's second apartment just edges out the first one because of its location and the fact that it has more windows. Lots of lovely space and height (especially for Boomer). So looking forward to the next video. This must be so difficult for the both of you. Good luck!
Loretta is so excited about her me time in the shower, i can relate
A nice shower or bath can really make or break my day 😁
And here I am looking at closets in Tokyo that I might be able to afford 😂😂😭
We dont use meters or ft for meausurement, we use a Boomer😸
It's nice to actually see pet friendly apartments for a change. Here in Thailand most don't accept them.
Loved the last place in this vid!
Ahhhh, I love this, thank you for the tours! My son lives in Osaka, and he's 6'7", Boomer he feels your pain!
I'm not nearly that tall but I feel his pain. I barely fit through doorways and I can't imagine the issues he can would face at height
1st apartment kitchen space I guess is for a refrigerator not a desk but well, if you don't need one you can put a desk there ... 3 persons thinking and no one saw the refrigerator need space.
Oh my godddd.
@@kemushichan Sorry but I really needed to tell you eheheheh it's one of most important and space consuming appliances. Guess you guys didn't pick that place lol or you have already figured that out by now.
Tokyo is quite awesome!
Apartment tours in Japan are awesome to look at; has a consensus been made, which apartment you both are moving in?
We'll reveal all in part 3!
They're talking about the space and how nice it is and my mind is stuck at "now i wanna see Lily with little shoes"
Hahaha she's tippy tapping at the end too 😍❤️
thank you for japan video
I love the A E S T H E T I C S in this video.
I liked the first one in this video, I forgot which one I chose in the previous video........ hm. I don't know, the location for the second apartment in this video was spot on (3 mins walking distance from your work, wow!) but the apartment itself didn't get me. Whereas the first apartment really wowed me, I liked the layout and the vibe I got from it
Definitely agree!
Good luck with finding an apartment! Fun adventure ahead.
I'm planning to school at Osaka next year, would any of you happen to know of a good website for Osaka Apartments?
augh stop tempting me with these nice apartments...😭
Wow! So tiny and pricey, I've never lived anywhere that small except for college or barracks rooms. I have lived in Okinawa for the last fifteen years.
Inspiring. My son 17, speaks Japanese loves the culture etc. I dont think my son will stay in America long 😪
Hi Loretta! This video is immensely useful thank you so much! I’ve just moved to Tokyo and I’m on the hunt for a pet friendly apartment for me and my dog who will fly over in a few months time! I wanted to ask how you find having a dog in Tokyo? Walking him? Collecting poop? Disposal of said poop, transportation and travel, places they’re allowed etc cause my initial impression is that the city isn’t very dog friendly.... thank you! Any advice would be A Maze ing 💘
Thanks for the great questions!
For us, when we first arrived we registered our pet at the ward office. They should hand out a few informational packets about what to do with poop bags, what happens if they get lost, even as much as what to do in emergencies or end of life care, etc. Its a good idea to ask per ward but Japanese style is train your dog to be an inside dog, BUT if they are an outside dog to always keep a water bottle and poop bags on walks. Any poop should be picked up and flushed before throwing out the bag seperately per your ward, or as they said, just through the whole bag in burnables . No matter which they do (especially if they urinate on the street or property) you should pour water on it with your water bottle.
We always check before riding new lines, but trains usually are that subways are free as long as you use a carrier, and JR youre supposed to buy ¥150 pet ticket at the station window.
Please tell me you two will live in this place? It's such a nice apartment!
They are all nice. And whats really nice is no carpet!
Do you plan on making a patreon or something so that people can see like exclusive content and maybe some japanese lesons too? I know you sad that you were/are a japanese language teacher so I was curious.
If you do I wanna be a patreon!
ME TOO!! PLEASE
What's the apartment called can you show the link?
In France it is illegal to call a room a bedroom if it is under 9m² so if this was in france this "bedroom" would be declassified as storage or something.
I don't think there's any law like that for Japan
@@indigo_died6910 I guess since there's so limited space available.
Thats an interesting law!
I wonder what people in France would think of the tiny house movement, or even just micro-apartments and subletting in cities like NYC 😬
Thats interesting i think japanese people tend to be more minimalist culturally probably because they spend so much time working..so space maynot be a huge concern ..just my thought
i like 5!
Watching these from the US is wild to me at the size lol. That bedroom is tiny!
Im pretty sure my entire family is confused 😂
Hey girl, can you tell me if you pay any taxes for the US and NY state taxes while you live in japan?? Please!! I really need to know
Which did you eventually get?
None! Theyre all too small for a family so we started a nomad neighborhood tour through Tokyo trying to figure out where we want to be. Here's the first spot: ua-cam.com/video/rzJT8J_1hN4/v-deo.html
Lots of space in the apartment.
Thats what she neeeeedsss
Are you guys concern about stigmatised property?
they said that foreigner friendly realtors generally cost more with agent fees, is this true?
Yes, they're pretty much always more expensive.
Either you can get a realtor that specializes in finding apartments that will accept foreigners. They will charge a higher one off realtor fee.
Or there are specific agencies which only deal with foreigners. Their ads will all be in English usually. These places charge a premium for rent prices AND realtor fee
Certainly not uncommon! Also, we're looking at pet friendly apartments, literally in the middle of Tokyo. This will naturally drive up the price.
The only additional fee you are going to pay is a guarantor fee which is generally equal to one month's rent.
@@kemushichan i took a look at apts.jp, the fees appear to be quite standard? what was extra that normally isn't charged by non-foreigner friendly realtors? guarantor fee aside :)
also thanks for your videos! the timing is perfect, I've got a job offer to relocate to Tokyo and work in the Roppongi area so...appreciate your videos!
basically foreigner friendly realtors are for intra-company transferred expats.

Im gonna sound stupid but I'm confused... if the budget was no more than 2000 a month, how's 189000 acceptable? Is it like a contract thing or something?
¥200,000 per month is the top end of the budget. We probably mixed in talking about it in yen vs dollars. Sorry for the confusion!
@@kemushichan Ooooooh! I get it now. Thanks so much!
THATS IT FOR AN APARTMENT THAT BIG!?!?!?
💜💙
❤️❤️
Lol she works near me..
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Liza Koshy?
... if pet friendly is super important to both of you, why is he showing you apartments that are not? Granted, I’m grateful you are showing us but isn’t it a letdown?
The ones in this video are all pet friendly but I specifically asked if we could see non-pet friendly ones as soon as they said it was ok to film.
I wanted to share pet vs non-pet friendly spots so that we can compare the price difference.
nice
Love this so much! It's so hard to find pet friendly apartments in Japan (for foreigners) 😭
