HELLO FRIENDS!! happy friday! here is part ONE of our asia series, we had so much fun roaming around the city finding these vending machines and i hope you enjoy it as well! which machine was your favorite?? xoxo, saf
I want all of these vending machines in America. It would be great for college campuses or near bars, where people are likely to crave little food items.
RockerCatErrorEncountered 404 Bars would probably prefer to sell the snacks directly, while there is often an a single all night fast food joint in each bar district for larger cravings.
John Francis Doe you’d be shocked. I live in a college town with the largest college in my state and there’s not a SINGLE 24 hour joint around. So this would make bank in our little bar district.
I live in europe and my university has many bars but the “cafeteria/menjador” has only vending machines with drinks, snacks and hot food. Wich is really nice for when it’s 3 am and you’re really hungry
Bread was literally the first food ever "canned". Napoleon offered a prize if anyone could come up with a way to preserve food for his armies on the march. Someone poured bread dough in a wine bottle, corked it, and boiled it to cook the bread. The bottle had to be broken to get the bread out. That's how canning started.
They also have restaurants where you just have like a cubby that you sit in, and you order your food by pressing buttons and then your food is just given to you behind a screen and you don't have to speak to a n y o n e
The “creepy vending machines” is actually for emergency purposes because there was a big earthquake and the building fell down and killed a few people a long time ago. There’s funny jokes on the vending machines to make people not panic and feel relaxed. The “mystery boxes” with inappropriate comments on the box is an adult video (or porn to be accurate). The one Safiya picked is an old comedy for entertainment when there’s nothing to do while an evacuation. They don’t really replace the foods, so I hope the ones Safiya got wasn’t expired. I dreamed about it when I went to Japan 2 months ago but its expensive af. Also you will need to hire a translator because google translator messes you up.
My professor said that the reason they are so prevalent is because in Japanese culture, people are generally shy. So vending machines take out the need to talk to a cashier
As a Japanese American yes culture is very different than how people are in America i just wish everyone understood that instead of make fun of them as i see in other youtuber videos
No, you're all wrong. Japan is a small country. So the cheapest and easiest small business. In the 90's American infomercials touted real estate as get rich quick. In Japan real estate is not an option but vending machines are. Every time I read a manga about a poor otaku, I ask myself, why don't they buy a used vending machine? ALL the other otaku did.
The canned bread looked interesting. When I was a kid living in Canada we had cake in a can. There was chocolate, vanilla, and other types. Sadly, I don't see it in stores anymore.
Ok I'm calling it that the creepy vending machine place holds like the secret entrance to the wizarding world in Japan, or maybe a secret government spy place.
It could be an entrance to a fantasy world. Wizards exist in Europe *flips hair* lol Japan the world of anime...secret entrances scattered around where only a few find them o.o
I'm pretty sure there is a wizarding school in Japan (I read it about it on Pottermore) so who nows maybe if you tap that really run down vending machine a certain way Japanese diagon alley will appear xD
the fact that she credits almost every video clip that isnt hers is crazy! but have heard of the creepy corner bc mike chen had gone there as literally his first stop for eating vending machine foods all day lol

Pros of Vending Machines: 1. Can’t shoplift 2. Don’t take up space 3. Convenient 4. Don’t require interaction with employees 5. Always open 6. Hotbeds of unique, random products and kawaii cat coin purses 👛 Cons of Vending Machines: 1. Dirty notes 2. Something scary in the mystery boxes 3. Potentially getting food poisoning by eating an egg that’s been in a can of odin since the dawn of time Edit: I really want a kawaii cat purse.
I could rewatch any of Saf’s videos and they feel like they’re brand new every time! That’s how CRAFTED they are. Says a lot about how much thought, time and effort got put into em.
Japan has so many of these since their population is too small and too old to staff as many shops as they require. In US, this would just mean more unemployment.
My favorite Japanese vending machine product was half-frozen Coke in a plastic bottle. The machines partially froze the pop, which stayed cool while you drank it. In Canada, they have a Japanese import concept of fresh layered cake in vending machines. There are about 20 varieties of cake, sliced in portions for one person.

right so when I go to Japan,
staying in a capsule
going to the Japanese spa/theme park
eating and drinking from vending machines
all set
**AND** Going with the street fashion trends
I dreamed about it when I went to Japan 2 months ago but its expensive af. Also you will need to hire a translator because google translator messes you up.

My professor said that the reason they are so prevalent is because in Japanese culture, people are generally shy. So vending machines take out the need to talk to a cashier
Final Fantasy Moogle sounds about right
As a Japanese American yes culture is very different than how people are in America i just wish everyone understood that instead of make fun of them as i see in other youtuber videos
Considering how fast online food delivery apps are growing it seems right they should be in the US 😂
No, you're all wrong.
It’s actually because most people are skilled workers or have high degrees; so there are not a lot of people to do those low skill jobs
The canned bread looked interesting. When I was a kid living in Canada we had cake in a can. There was chocolate, vanilla, and other types. Sadly, I don't see it in stores anymore.
Okay but why isn’t anyone talking about RinRin’s giant barrettes?? Like queen??

Not gonna lie, I kinda love them

They’re so cute!
More like Princess. She is more innocent and cute than cold and dominant (not in a sexual way but in personality)
AMAZING
Ok I'm calling it that the creepy vending machine place holds like the secret entrance to the wizarding world in Japan, or maybe a secret government spy place.
Oh-
Call me paranoid but sounds like human trafficking to me.

I'm so glad she got the kitty coin purses. I was going to die wondering about them if she didn't talk about it lol
Dollar General sells the same kitty coin purses. I got one of every kind. They're so cute!! (Jan Griffiths).
I want them too, but I already have a cute jiji coin purse!
omg same! I wanted to know what they actually were and finally she talked about it haha
the fact that she credits almost every video clip that isnt hers is crazy! but have heard of the creepy corner bc mike chen had gone there as literally his first stop for eating vending machine foods all day lol

Ty: **is dying**
Saf: **eats more** I don't think I could eat a whole bag of them, even though I like them.
She probably grew up around spicy food too though, cause I think one of her parents is an Indian immigrant but I may be wrong
@Emily L you need to see the one with Rhett and Link. They hiccup uncontrollably towards the end 😂😂
I love that she had to clarify she wasn’t going to grow a hornet colony 😂😂😂❤️
Safiyas Indian roots coming in handy with the spicy snack 😂 she is badass!
I’d love to see if she survives a hot ones challenge... considering Hasan Minhaj couldn’t take the spice.
Definitely wasn’t expecting that. She barely flinched. Would love to see her on hot ones!
How did you get that cool bat in your name?

Safiya: *goes to Japan to react to the vending machines in person*
@outsideliesmagic Actually they market new flavors of drinks every year. Just had a new #Yuzu Vitamin drink from #Itoen today.

Jeez, when you said you didn't realize how long ago 2013 was, I was thinking "ehh, couple of years ago, not so bad."
And then you said 6 years ago and my whole train of thought was derailed.
Smash Mouth was right: the years really don't stop coming

Smash mouth... Wow... I haven't heard of them in years!!! Their song "All-Star" came out when I was in 8th grade. Okay, now I feel old. 😆

You’re doing amazing 🤩🤩
chansbitxh really is it fun? I live in Arkansas in a city but as you look at it it looks plain 😂 Mann
I lived there for about 6 years and I’m moving back in December!! 😌

chansbitxh mann japan seems so fun! ive always moved around asia but ive never been to japan 😭😭
Ritins expressions are priceless. I like her facial expressions with everything
My auntie from Indonesia tried a spoonful of the hottest sauce at Nando’s and all she said was: “salty” 😳
Hot Tea It depends what your tolerance is. I can barely eat McDonald’s spicy mayo.
Hate to tell ya but lots of people could handle that.
People from Indonesia like spicy food but I'm Indonesian and I can't stand spicy food lmao
Nando ain't shit my dude XD
The hottest one isn’t even that spicy! Me and my sister that love spice tried it and we were really disappointed when it didn’t affect us :(
You and RinRin should do a beauty swap with skincare and makeup! I think that would be so cool
Love how she doesn’t do a whole drama at the creepy place with vending machines like some other youtubers would’ve done just to get more views

I love all the stuff you do abroad. I'd love if you visited your parents home countries and go visit something from their early years? You've been to Asia a lot, I hope Denmark is next!
Linea Sørensen That’s such a cool idea!
And/or look at the fashion from there!
India too, that would be insane in terms of food and fashion and culture!

Pros of Vending Machines:
1. Can’t shoplift
2. Don’t take up space
3. Convenient
4. Don’t require interaction with employees
5. Always open
6. Hotbeds of unique, random products and kawaii cat coin purses 👛
Cons of Vending Machines:
1. Dirty notes
2. Something scary in the mystery boxes
3. Potentially getting food poisoning by eating an egg that’s been in a can of odin since the dawn of time
Edit: I really want a kawaii cat purse.
I could rewatch any of Saf’s videos and they feel like they’re brand new every time! That’s how CRAFTED they are. Says a lot about how much thought, time and effort got put into em.
Omg I cant believe this was 5 years ago! Rewatching this again after 5 years.. while waiting for another upload!
I wish they had a couple of these in America
I want canned bread more than anyone will ever know
Japan has so many of these since their population is too small and too old to staff as many shops as they require. In US, this would just mean more unemployment.
I wish we had the drive thrus in Britain you have in the US 😂😂
Anna Kosiek i wish my workplace had those 🤤

My favorite Japanese vending machine product was half-frozen Coke in a plastic bottle. The machines partially froze the pop, which stayed cool while you drank it. In Canada, they have a Japanese import concept of fresh layered cake in vending machines. There are about 20 varieties of cake, sliced in portions for one person.
