The biggest and most important variable that we don't have access to is the angle of the cage. If you look at the springer users with scar barrels, the vast majority of people are using adjustable scars, this is to change the rate of spin. Canted cages do not have this option, at the moment pretty much all the canted cages have about the same angle. That angle is optimal for 20-30m/s and no higher. In all your long range testing you notice that your 'rapid fire' shots are more stable than the slow fire shots, as the muzzle velocity is dropping back into that optimal range.
However, there is a test that can point to wards this conclusion. As the balance is between angle of rotation and velocity, if we can't change the angle of rotation, we can change the velocity.
My proposition for the next test: use the same cage and wheels, but vary the muzzle velocity, either by changing motors, or by changing the battery. My hypothesis for this test would be to show that if the higher muzzle velocity is outstripping the spins ability to keep the dart stable. What I expect to see is that at a higher velocity to your baseline (40m/s is resonably easy to achieve) you will have much more fishtailing and whirlybirding at the muzzle, but any dart that manages to go any distance will start to recover and become more stable over its trajectory, conversely at lower velocity (stock 20m/s would be easy to achieve) I expect the dart to be fairly stable straight out of the muzzle, with very low to no whirlybirds/fishtails.
I would be willing to do some work into designing some 3d model cage systems to test the angle of the flywheels, if you are interested in that?

1 It would either be many cages for a particular nerfgun, or it would be a tesbed platform with movable motor bells. I havn't decided which will be the better option.
2 forcably adjusting the voltage would give you better control over the muzzle energy, good idea!

@@EDSKaR These blasters were built with FRVs just so they could be connected to 3s batteries to get that higher velocity test. So to keep things simple, just popping in a 3s should be able to demonstrate high velocity instability.

You are 100% correct velocity, weight, length, and even head diameter all affect the amount of spin you need to stabilize so id suggest different motor angles for half darts which will need less spin. Just playing with a ballistics calculator a worker half dart at 130fps(40m/s) on paper should be completely stable at around one rotation per 3in of travel.

  • @StopMoshin
    @StopMoshin 4 роки тому +2

half darts also have less air resistance so when they get to the same distance as the full lengths they don't lose as much energy, or at least that's my hypothesis. Another idea for an experiment is to try to find a way to measure the velocity at different range increments this will be much harder as you will have to aim for the krono from much farther but maybe combining long range krono test with slomo.

I would like to see a comparison of canted cage with normal wheels and a canted cage with the worker wheels specifically for the canted cage. Also, I’m curious as to what is the structural difference between a canted cage and a standard cage.

How about testing flywheels in canted cages for episode 3.0? My first Stryfe set up used the Worker clear 42.5mm canted cage with Worker clear canted flywheels using Meishel2.0 motors on a 2s graphine. The darts would spin out of control and not fly more than 30ft. I changed just the cage to a Arura 42.5mm cage same motors and canted Worker wheels, darts now fly straight and far. So perhaps I had too much spin with a canted cage and wheels. It would be interesting to see what if any difference using various wheels like smooth, serrated, concave or the canted serrated like the Worker ones I used. Thanks for the awesome videos Cap!.

Would a half dart of a stiffer material help with the (lack of) contact issue? Like if it was Nerf Ultra dart or Boomco straw material? Or what if you used a micro flywheel system in 2 stage, but the stages really close together?

Same stryfe on 2s and 3s should interesting (with a cantered cage)
As a separate experiment, multi stage setup.
High speed second stage and vary the first stage.
Given that in a single stage setup the darts start from 0fps does the speed of the first stage make much difference, or is just having it at all enough?

Very informative analysis sir, I feel much more informed after watching. 1 Question though, why did you need worker Gen2 white darts for the rotation test? Couldn't a colored dot on any dart show rotation more easily, as you would then have a visual representation of their spiral, and thus a get a more detailed comparison, and perhaps see minor differences between each dart.

It's hard to be to consistent being that after all it is a flywheel blaster and are just not accurate no matter what you do. Flywheels are for dumping ammo fast and that's about it. Yes you can do things to increase power but there just not great if trying to be accurate over 50 feet. I like flywheelers for certain things but nothing like a Springer for accuracy.
Nice video and nice job explaining
