@davethehostage hey Dave your right, sorry for ruining it for you! We grabbed the sound as a whole from the sound board, this wasn't shot for a major release or anything, so even though the vocals are higher than they should be, i think it still sounds way better than any straight in-camera audio recording
i would say it is difficult to come up with the riffs and rhythms, but generally nothing is too difficult to play when you know how its played... :) its all about the idea which they have a lot! great, great band!
@dirty706 Oh hell no ! As you can see they have layers of 2 or 3 guitars, so when learning Isis for one guitar you have to choose some kind of line that you prefer if you play along with the CD.... If you are starting the guitar, Isis is a great way to train with a lot of fun play. I could give you some tabs if you want.
OK For a start you need a tuner and some thick strings (I use D'addario 011-049 + an extra 060 or 066 for the low B ; on Telecaster so I just don't use the 011 string). Isis play D'addario and they're rather cheap. The tuning is B F# B E G# C# (Drop B).This set of strings will also allow you to play in drop A, for example: Torche have some really easy songs too in drop A. Some of the easiest Isis songs are "In Fiction" and "Not in rivers..." for a start. Just give me an e mail for tabs.
in the bit where the vox is too loud around 2:40, i think he has vox running through delay or something, and its the mix from the mixing board so they might not have sounded that bad.
hatepooper69 It's the sound coming straight from the mixing board(LR CLONE).The an club is a small club and the mix is a combination of the sound that comes from the stage and the sound from the FOH SPEAKERS.That's why whatever is not amplified is in high level because it needs an extra push since the amps and the drums are way too loud for a club of this size.The final mix result for those who were there was excellent although the recording has this problem.
@DrumBum561 hmm good point, im not trying to knock Isis down a peg, i absolutely love them. there music just came out at a worse time than Pink Floyds time though
Chorus (flanger) + delay. Maybe there's something else, but these are primary. Jeff Caxide frequently uses this combination of effects and high notes in Isis, Crone, Palms.
i dont think the vocal audio is from the video, that doesnt sound like it at all, i have the clearing the eye dvd and its much better, plus the vocal is turned WAY too high,
hahah yeah dude 2:40 was a pretty bad fuckup. I don't think Aaron has been singing clean for a while, he'll get better. His screams fucking rule though.
dosent matter how hard a song is to play...atleast these songs have meaning to them instead of that dragonforce shit that sounds like a broken record when they perform live
Terrible with the vocal mixing. That shit was cranked waaaay too high, especially since Isis' vocals aren't meant to stand out, they're meant to blend in at roughly the same volume as the rhythm section. In short, WTF SOUND GUYS.
You can hear the influence Tool had on this band after they toured together, namely Justin Chancellor on Jeff Caxide. The bass tone is heavenly.
This band is so much better than Tool could ever dream of being

amazing. a true masterpiece. amazing bassline.
he uses GK heads to record in the studio, but live he always uses the Ampeg heads.
I'm proud to say that i was there...
You forgot Cult of Luna,Pelican and Callisto...I suggest you to check those bands out...
The year I move out from Greece, Isis decides to come... Cursing my luck :(
Best band ever :D
The audio came from a minidisc recorder connected to the sound engineer board
Tool; Isis; Neurosis; Opeth...are ROCK!!!!!
I hear ya bud !

the guitar tone at 2:21 is just absolutely fucking beautiful
You're wrong man Neurosis has been doing this for much longer Isis are still a truly great band though.
@Tridrake Yeah, back dating them a whole twelve years! Neurosis started in 85 and Isis in 97 I believe
@bmarrero I am trying to learn to play the guitar, and I would like some tabs.
@sydbarret7 I love you.
@davethehostage Yeah.
@coheedandtom i love you too :-*
4:58 that bassline is angelic
gamato!
The vocals were WAY too loud!

@hojima They are pretty off here, but they're too high in the mix regardless.
Is it hard to play some the guitar riffs they are playing?
not just another post rock group - isis are GIANTS ... like tides Col and Neurosis
@DrumBum561 could be the fact that they broke up...
What effect does the bassist use in the beginning?
Chorus (flanger) + delay. Maybe there's something else, but these are primary. Jeff Caxide frequently uses this combination of effects and high notes in Isis, Crone, Palms.
Chorus, Delay, Reverb

yeah, but neurosis never sounded like this. isis definitely broke away from neurosis with oceanic, and they haven't really looked back since.

perfect.... even better then in the album.... i didnt like the vocal mix in the album...
He's flat 'cause he's not using enough support, probably because of adrenaline, or maybe coordination with playing, not sure. But they rock anyway!
dosent matter how hard a song is to play...atleast these songs have meaning to them instead of that dragonforce shit that sounds like a broken record when they perform live
seems dubbed
@DrumBum561 haha true, so many terrible cookie cutter bands nowadays
We only notice the vocals are too high because hes out of tune :P
