    I ruptured mine did the non surgery route the first time then I went back to work after 21 weeks and it ruptured again. The second time I got surgery. In my
    Opinion if you’re an office worker do non surgical...if your active and your job is physical so you never give yourself a break. Then do surgery. It’s all about letting it heal I work on the railroad so for me I should have done the surgery right Away good luck to all

    Hi I am in the # 6 month of my recovery due to an Achilles tendon rupture, and my doubt is; The tendon stretches with the exercises until the maximum flexion, like the good foot? for example when doing squats

    Agnes, I ruptured my Achilles tendon near the calcaneus last week. I have been in a boot for a week now and have got two doctors opinions. One doctor suggest surgery and the other is suggesting the non surgical route. By viewing some of your videos I can see that your non surgical route was very successful. I too am thinking of taking this route. Did you sleep and shower in your boot? When did you take it off if you did ?

      First of all, sorry about your rupture. In the first 2-3 weeks I was in the boot 24/7. That meant sleeping in it and showering in it. I had a boot cover to put over it in the shower and since I was NWB, shower stool was helpful. For sleeping I just cleaned the bottom of the boot with wipes and put shower cap over the bottom of it before getting it into bed. It helps to sleep on the side of the bed, so the injured leg is on the outside. That way you do not need to put covers over the boot, which makes it more comfortable to sleep. I was taking boot off for couple of minutes or so a day to wipe down my foot with adult wipes, change my sock and to spray the boot. That's it. I was really careful doing so not to move my toes from the set position. Week 3 I started range of motion exercises, which meant I took off the boot every hour, for few minutes and did gentle range of motion, all in plantar flexion position. Boot on the rest of the time.
      And yes, my recovery was very successful with the non-op route. Just make sure that your foot is in the position with your toes pointing down and if you do decide to go non-op, ensure that your PT and doctor are familiar with non- surgical protocols, which differ in the initial weeks of recovery. There is newer research that provides more success with early weight bearing and early mobilization. Good luck with your decision and recovery!

      Thank for responding back to me Agnes. Your advice is very helpful. I am doing the non surgical route. I feel that I am making tremendous progress and I am taking it very slow. I am able to sleep and shower without the boot but now I am thinking of taking your advice and doing both with it on. I am able to move my foot up and down in the plantar motion and side to side. I have been taking Vitamin C as per doctors orders. He said it helps rebuild connective tissue. I am going to start doing the range of motion exercises from your videos in the weeks to come. Thanks for the motivation!!!

    Hi there, I ruptured my Achilles 3 weeks ago and it is in an air boot which allows a little ROM. In your opinion will icing it regularly help the process?

    • @agnes76atr
      @agnes76atr  7 років тому +1

      Sorry about your rupture Sheera. The icing helps with swelling. Putting your foot above the heart helps the fastest for the swelling. For me the combination of ice and heat was helping. To reduce swelling I was using ice bag and elevating my leg, but I was also applying hot water bottle and I found that it was increasing my circulation. I know that there are different opinions on icing, but the above was what worked for me.

    hy miss agnes myself also is a tendon repture i have finish a surgery and then now my leg cannot walk how long it take to heal a tendon n how long i can walk? plz answer

    • @agnes76atr
      @agnes76atr  7 років тому +1

      It is different for everyone. The protocol your doctor follows should tell you when you specifically can start walking. This differs greatly for everyone and depends on individual situation, but there are lots of new studies that suggest that early weight bearing protocol gives best overall results. The total recovery time is from 9 to 12 months though (depending on activities you want to get back to).

      No, I chose the non-operative route of recovery, so I healed with no surgery.

      You are very early in the recovery process. It takes time, unfortunately. The key is a good physical therapist that leads you to regaining both, calf strength and ankle flexibility. It will require quite a bit of daily work to get back to before injury functionality.
