Hi Agnes,Made it to month six!! Doing calf raises on steps. Still can't do single raise with my injured foot. I've been going to the pool and I am able to lift the injured foot.. still limping a bit while walking. Question for you, what brand of sneakers were you using in this video. I did buy the heel inserts. I'm going away in a few weeks and will be doing a lot of walking. I have sketchers and they are not so comfortable for long walks. I am so tired after I've been outside walking. Because I'm still limping my back hurts. So I thought I need to change my sneakers!!! OMG I did not realize how long this recovery was!! It's really getting to me. I want to do so much but this foot UGH!Thanks again, and hope you are still doing well.Sincerely,DaryleAnn

Hi DaryleAnn, congratulations on your half year mark and your progress. In this video I am wearing my old New Balance shoes. I think these might be the ones I was wearing when I ruptured, now that I think about it.... They are comfortable for me, but every foot is so different and one really needs to try the shoes on to see how they feel. I am big Merrell fan for shoes, but then again, it all depends on a model and what is comfortable for someone. Some people swear by Hoka shoes for running and walking. I do not like thick sole shoes, so am not a big fan, but so many people love them. I also heard some people talking about Vionic shoes, but I never tried them. Have you tried going to one of these stores where they fit you with a sports shoe that works for your foot? That might help.
Oh and btw, eccentric calf raises were the biggest help for me to get to a single calf raise. I was doing them with straight and bent leg to work on all calf muscles.
Good luck with the shoes shopping and have a good time on your vacation. :)

Hi Agnes, thanks for this video. I've had conservative treatment too. Can you tell me, did your wear an immobilisation boot at all? I wore one for three months which ended at the beginning of June and so I am currently almost 4 months post boot. I cant do heal lifts at all on the injured leg. Is your month 7 taken from when boot came off (if you had a boot)?

I wore boot as well. I was cleared to start walking in 2 shoes at 2 months and 1 week. With single heel raises everyone is different, so do not compare that statistic. I was able to do mine at week 17, but as I said from what I have seen this varies greatly. I believe that good physical therapist and a lot of daily work on muscles helped me get to single calf raises. You can check my blog for photos of exercises given to me each month and their progression ( achillesblog.com/agnesatr ). Eccentric calf raises specifically were huge help.

    I'm in the 5-week
After six months, the foot becomes normal movement, there is no side effects when you practice sports
    Is that correct?

      Hi Mohanad,
It all depends how well one heals and how much physio therapy (calf strengthening) you are doing. There is no one time stamp for everyone that states that it will be 6 months or 12 months. Biologically speaking, the achilles is not 100% healed at 6 months. It is at something called "remodeling stage" . That stage last at least a year. Going back to explosive sports at 6 months will highly depend on how well person healed and on the calf strength. You can do a lot of sports at that time, but quick and explosive sports at competitive level might be more dangerous at that stage. They can be done, but one might need to be slightly more cautious than before surgery. Your PT and doctor should evaluate you at that stage and progressively clear you for various sports. Until then work on your calf/glutes/hips strength and that will speed up return to all sports. Check out the papers below which explain tendon healing stages. Good luck with your healing process! :)
