Just a black, 45 year old single mom living in America (Baltimore) binge watching, learning and day dreaming about your lifestyle. I saw a reel or TikTok a week ago and now I’m hooked. I don’t want to be cold but I love the idea of finding a season or place you love, simplicity and being still. Thanks for sharing
I died laughing when Christopher couldn't remember his cat's name because I can just imagine a cat with Christopher Energy and the two of them not knowing each other's names because they never spoke. Also, I'm so excited for another year of polar night videos!!!
I think it is fantastic that they are so protective of the children being on film and respectful of the parents' wishes. That is how everybody should be.
You probably won't see this comment, but on the off chance: a while back you said you were starting a series about the people who choose to live in Svalbard. I think you had a sit down with one woman who was an artist or jewelry maker, if I remember correctly. Could you pick that up again? Maybe interview a teacher, rather than filming a classroom? Interview some of the hospitality staff, emergency workers, guides, etc? I think it's really interesting, all the different reasons people end up in such a remote location.
I lived in Norway for years, am also fluent in the language and culture. There's a very dark side to this so-called protection of children there. One can and does very easily lose their children for highly questionable reasons. Their child protection agencies (Barnevern) have removed children for appalling reasons: the biggest one being if you're a Christian, and raising them in a Christian home and raising them with Christian values. They and the government determine what's acceptable or not. Fairly recently, Christian parents with five children lost them when Barnevern decided they didn't agree with what the children were being taught. Further, you are not permitted to raise your voice/yell at your children when you deem it necessary, to make them do much of anything, including expecting them to obey instructions to help clean, etc. In all the years I lived there, I witnessed children behaving disgracefully towards their parents when they wanted something, or were told to do anything they didn't want to do. When I balked at this and told them to discipline them? They told me they couldn't because the government would take them! I said "I'd let them!" Make no mistake: Norwegian children run the home, are boss, know it, take full advantage accordingly. Absolutely true. Around the mid 2000s, one of Norway's newspapers, Verdens Gang, did an article about this. They interviewed a large number of teens and young adults in their 20s, most of them still living at home. Why? Because, they said, their parents owed them this and other things, because they didn't ask to be born. That it was their right because of this. I kid you not. Keep in mind that the Norwegian government promotes this thinking, and parents because they fear them, go right along with this. Interestingly, the title of this article was, translated, "Spoiled Entitled Golden Children" or close to that. Trust me, it's a very real, very awful thing. My now adult child is a dual citizen of Norway and America. I did not raise him there, and not just because I'm now a Christian. No government agency is going to tell me how to raise a child, and threaten me in the process. And, if a child did the same in an attempt to bully and take control of their parents and the home, they'd swiftly realize they're fighting a losing battle. If they were to threaten me with a child protection agency? Well, there's the door! Buh bye!
Not at all. Norway is a terrible regime when it comes to how the government threat children. By average every child born in norway will be involved in a child protective service case (barnevernet) look at all the cases norway loose in Haag. Don't ever trust anything when the government get involved with your children.
I love that Svarbald has laws against filming children. I wish it was a worldwide law. There are so many children being exploited on family channels (& other channels) on UA-cam & I personally find it disgusting. It’s one thing to share your life as an adult & maybe share your children once in awhile, but to make your focus about your children & all of the ups & downs associated with them (bra shopping, periods, injuries, etc), especially when children cannot give consent, I find appalling. These children are growing up with absolutely zero privacy after their entire lives have been shared on the Internet. Thank you for being so conscientious about this topic! ❤
I feel like people seems to forget that you can enjoy the cold vs the heat. I know for me, I like chilly weather, I like rain. When I tell people that they’re shocked.
Agree, that's all I ever heard. Now that I'm older everyone assumes I have kids. Although I call my horses my idiot children. Lmao. So it really throws people off. I even tried getting sterilized young and no doctor would touch me. 😢 Thankfully my husband got cut. No babies in this relationship. Ever. Just pets❤
My son is 35 and single, and probably never will have any, my husband is upset because his bloodline dies with my son. Its all about choice, and if you don't meet the right person, what are you to do, right??
@@countrygirl197906 absolutely, my husband and I got married later in life, and I was already set on not having children. He was on board. I show off my baby cat to everyone lol. Fur babies all the way.
@@darlenekozlovskis6907 Or you can meet the perfect person and still not have children. My husband and I have been married for 16 years, very happy together, best years of my life. We've never wanted children, and nothing will change that. I'm 44 and don't regret a thing. I'm not meaning to be confrontational, just offering the perspective of someone who is happily child-free.
I know one too many people who regret having a kid. They're perfect lives were destroyed by having one and divorce and break ups happened not long after. Don't let social convention force you into doing something you don't want.
I highly recommend that everyone start from the beginning. Thinking back some of the videos were pretty funny, always fun, and back in the day, there was a whole team of us rooting for Cecilia to capture footage or sound bites of Christopher. He was like the Big Foot of Svalbard. 😂 Gosh, i may go back now and binge watch..... 🩷🩷
Thank you for sharing your perspective on your life without kids! We chose not to have kids and as a woman honestly it feels like I don’t see a lot of examples out there of people enjoying their lives without kids and talking about that choice. It makes me feel a bit more seen!
43, married for 24 years, and we're both childfree & sterilized. As soon as we got dogs 4 years ago, it was confirmed. Children are not for us. My dogs are freaking exhausting; kids are that times 1000!
I'm 35 and feel the same exact way. My husband is like Chris and has said from day 1 he would be ok with whatever decision I made. I always thought I might but I never had a strong urge to so it's a no for me 🙂 I use to be only a cat person like Cecilia as well but now I have a weimaraner who I am absolutely obsessed with 🥰 my life is so perfect and I'm so content I'm scared a baby would alter that and I just don't have a desire for one enough to take that chance.
I think I am the only one that does see his energy as zen. I have a hard time with his level of energy and decreased eye co tact. I know, this is about me. For me, I need someone who is more interactive. I am hoping this is a safe place to comment. Also- I know, it’s not me with him. But just seeing if anyone else feels the same as me. If not, that’s ok. ❤
@@Audrey.17yes, I think there’s someone for everyone, but I definitely would need someone who was more animated in my life too! No slander on him though, that’s just me.
Cecilia, I genuinely hope you see this comment, as I want to thank you for your positivity. I live in a far north state and we experience constant darkness in the winter. Your outlook has challenged me to change my mindset around the winter time. I used to become down and depressed but now I consider myself a winter lover and the darkness doesn’t bother me like it used to. All because you challenged me to change my mindset. Each day, I gradually began to love the winter and find the beauty in it. So, thank YOU and God bless. ❤
It's the same for me Kate! I live in Ontario (Canada) and used to dread the winter months, especially after Christmas when all the lights were put away. But Cecilia has challenged me to look at winter in a new light and even last year I enjoyed it so much more. 🙂
@@Leelaa3007she got me to put up string lights in my house year round to brighten it up! I’m also in Canada. It’s a little after 4 pm now and will be dark pretty soon… I still don’t love this darker and colder time of year, but her videos and outlook do help me!
I love winter and having a cozy home / place certainly helps but I also go outside as much as I can and that makes me feel really good. Nature is healing.
I cant tell you how much I'm looking forward to Christoffer doing the Christmas baking whilst Cecilia gets 😵💫 on mulled wine😂 It's a Christmas tradition now!!🤣
I would love to see Christopher just break down and crack up laughing. That would make my year 😂. He seems to be the complete opposite of Cecilia. Not criticizing, opposites do attract, just an observation.
20:43 I have two kids, and while I love them SO much, I don’t think I knew just how MUCH it is. In terms of emotional heaviness, the loss of identity and exhaustion. I’m so glad you are thinking about these specifics!
@@desiree3488absolutely. I have children and love them to death, but if I had an option of a do over, I'd not have them. I could be retired already if I didn't have children 😂
I love how happy Grim is - he does not need a puppy!!! Also, you do not need to answer about a child. I am Cristoffer's age and have never regretted not having a child. I have lived my life following adventure and am happy and fulfilled. I spoil my friends' kids with bikes and skis and books and they let me be their friends. It works 😃
My friend never ever wanted kids she’s was together and married 20+ years they divorced and then both met new partners and my friend had a baby at 41 couldn’t believe it was so shocked. She decided she wanted to be a mummy after all. It’s not for everyone I didn’t want any but fell pregnant while on birth control then had another and was best thing I done. It’s one those things one decisions that’s very personal, if you don’t want then you don’t. Many womens bio blocks tick I can def say this as I have had mine I’m done but I 37-38 almost and the feeling of wanting another creeps in…..but maybe if you don’t feel strongly don’t or leave it up to if it happens it does. Don’t be afraid to say no I don’t. You still have few years left nothing wrong with being older mummy. I can see why with where you live and lifestyle why having kids would be a bigger choice. Love you both ❤ and Grim of course
I also turned 34 & I totally love that you're both content with your lives right now. My husband and I have said we're ok if we don't have children, I've seen how trying so hard with no results can consume people & I swore never to be that way. Adoption is always an option if we can't actually have our own, but I'm just thankful for my marriage right now.
Why I like these videos? Because they feel like real life. I've lived in Alaska, and just like the laid back attitudes of people living in some remote cold places. It is not for everyone, but there is something...to me, magical about where you are now. Plus Christopher is so chill, you both make me smile.
So agree that a child could disrupt a beautifully perfect life if you don’t think you really want to have a baby. I have friends who love being mothers, and I’m genuinely happy for them, but not every woman wants that for themself. My husband and I are in our mid-forties now and no regrets ❤
I admire your sensitivity and honesty on the “having a baby” topic. It’s very well thought out and mature of the both of you. We have a daughter and I wouldn’t change it for the world, but children aren’t for everyone and others should respect that. Also, you wouldn’t want Grim spreading his “fear of floors” to human children 😂😂😂 I love it!! ❤
Cecilia, I'm 62 with no children....no regrets at all. I to love kids but I've never seen them in my life. I realize that just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I must have a child. What I really want to tell you is, I think you, Christopher and Grimm are absolutely wonderful. You live an amazing life and I feel you both are really good ppl. God Bless you. Honey enjoy your life. Laugh and love deeply. Christopher uou seem more relaxed in front of the camera. You are a beautiful couple. Enjoy your life. I absolutely love your channel. ❤😊
Your answer to the “kids” question is identical to ours. We felt exactly the same way, we simply didn’t know and in the end opted not to have kids. And here’s something I realized, when I looked at all the people around me who have children, almost without fail, they all knew they had always wanted them, it was in their DNA and was always part of their life plans and that just wasn’t the case for us and that helped us decide. Had I become pregnant, we would have gone all out and been full on proud parents but we have our fabulous furry babies and we’re fulfilled 100% - on another subject we live in the USA in a small midwestern town and TRACTOR SUPPLY just opened here lol !!
I know a couple of people who didn't always know they wanted kids, but they did have a very strong desire before I would guess 30ish. Some people realize it late, but I know way more people who realized after they had kids they would have rather not. So best advice is to have them if you really want them or just make a life with yourself. There are many benefits to a childfree life.
It is so refreshing to hear a woman say she’s leaning towards no on having children and then reading so many kind comments. Even more so that your partner is so supportive. I’ve never wanted children and that has been a huge issue for men when it comes to dating. Men have not responded kindly to my not wanting kids. Thank you for your honesty and sharing something so personal.
You have to be a real degenerate to harrass women over this. You also have to be unintellligent and that's not lacking in the world.. This channel probably attracts more normal people.
I have two kids, i always knew I wanted them. What I didn’t know is the amount of work, effort, tiredness, exhaustion, patience, sleepless nights, selflessness and dedication that goes into them. Everything one can imagine multiply by 1000 gazillion. So kudos to you for making the other choice and not bringing kids into this world that are rejected or do not have enough of all that. I fully support child free women for making a conscious decision not to bring life into this world. Many of the ppl I know did that only because they want to protect as they don’t feel protected here. I get that 100000%. So thank you! And all the best!❤️
You two (and Grim) are just too cute. You have put a smile on my face today. Thank you for sharing your life on Svalbard and for sharing yourselves with the rest of us. You bring a lot of joy. ❤
It's really good to hear that longyearben will not be overpopulated, or become a larger village. We need more laws like this in all rural wild areas in the world!!! We need to preserve our natural habitats and keep the wild wild! ❤
Having a kid is an entirely personal decision and it is funny that people ask you about it. I put it off as long as possible and at age 37 realized it was something I was more than ready to do. And our son was born when I was 38. It's been the greatest blessing in our lives. But I've known couples who were childless who enjoyed their lives together making each other and their life together as the focus. Wishing you well! Thank you for sharing your world with us! ❄️
I didn't want children for years. But as i got older i felt a strong feeling that I didn't want my life to be without a child. Now I have one little girl and the best little girl. I don't regret having her. But it's not for everyone as someone said here. Big responsibility.
@@whoopsydaisy6389 IMy cousin got a whole kit last year, I think it was. It included the lights, the fixture with the planters and many different seeds. I think it was under $200 or $300? They had to assemble it, but they love it. It sounds like a waterfall and they have fresh vegetables and fruits all the time. 😃
Same on kids, I’m 43 and never had the desire to have kids, ever. I am truly happy the way things are w my husband and so is he. You can have kids even at 47 if you wanted, but yeah, you need to really want that.
Christoffer not remembering the name of the cat caused me to laugh so hard. It was actually a healing laughter due to dealing with some not so pleasant family stuff. Thank you for not editing that part out. I needed it.
I love that you both stand by your beautiful lives with or without children. If a person wants kids there is a need/drive and it’s not wrong to not have it either. People need to respect other’s decision neither is wrong. Life can be full, happy, healthy & fulfilling with kids, dogs, cats, adventures or living in same spot for 50 years! I love seeing the beauty of life on Swalvard! Can’t wait for polar nights❤
I like how you explained that Polar Nights are “Cozy”. I have Seasonal depression so I purchased “Natural light” light bulbs that are a bright light with blue hues. I find them very helpful.
Very interesting answers! I had the feeling Longyearbyen was a "booming" town because of tourism and such, and I saw that they were constructing apartment buildings in the central part of town. But it's good to hear that it's not expanding much otherwise, and that there are strict rules on where they can build.
I always find it so odd people ask the kid question. I’ve got three but wouldn’t dream of asking people such a personal question. I don’t think people realise that people might also being trying for one and struggling! Or they are just happy without. Anyway I like these type of videos! Thanks! 💕 xxx
Exactly. I have no kids and am happy that way. But why the need to pressure and insist someone answer such a personal question that seems to include judgement even by asking.
I agree, I have 2 kids and I'd never ask someone something like that. To this day I don't even know why my uncle and aunt don't have children, they chose not to share it with family, so we don't ask...
Yep, I have a plethora of health issues, and I will never have kids for two reasons. One, because it would likely kill me from severe injury/placental abruption. Two, I could never, ever forgive myself if I passed on my shitstorm of genetics to another human being. I wouldn't wish this pain, physical and mental, on anyone.
I have 2 children blessings but I agree I would never intrude and ask about children to a couple that's a very personal subject between the couple and unless they tell you I don't ask
I don't have kids. To give an honest answer about why not, I would have to give the whole story of the first 50 years of my life. Ain't nobody got time for that, and why anyone even thinks they want to know is beyond me. I have been thinking of moving to a small town, but in my experience, townies are the worst when it comes to asking crazy questions, when they would not want the answers if they got them.
that fact that she says Portugal and he says Norway says a lot about their character imo. She likes exotic and thrives with often change and he is more traditional and sticks closer to his roots.
I always love seeing the interaction between these two. Christopher is always so laid back and chill to Cecilia's hyper happiness. His answer to the children question is perfect.
I agree on Grim being an only dog. We have a 15-year-old Shih Tzu named Sydney. She’s been an only dog since she was 4 months-old when she came to live with us. When she was 2, we thought about getting another puppy, but then I ended up getting pregnant with our daughter (surprise!). So, that put an end to getting dog #2. At this point in Syd’s life at age 15 as she gets older, she would have a hard time adjusting to a new puppy/dog. Also, as she ages, she will require us to give her more care. She also gets overwhelmed when around other younger dogs. For now, we have the best of both worlds with one child and one dog. Our daughter is 12 now and has grown up with Syd. They are “the kids.”
Greetings from NYC, love your videos and family. As a 58 year old woman , I’m thrilled with my decision never to have kids. I have always felt this way even in my younger years. Now I am married to a great guy who has 2 adult sons, they have become my friends, that’s great and enough.
As a Canadian, I love the 4 seasons. I love the changes. Fall and winter are my favourites we have longer nights but I also love being outside on cold sunny days
I get so much flack for not wanting children . It’s so ok to not have kids life can still be amazing without them ! You can love kids and appreciate them but not have any ! Love all your videos !
One of my daughters decided she wanted to become a mother so her and her girlfriend have adopted my 14 months old grandson, he's soo special to me, i wouldn't know how i was before he was here, my life is so much brighter now!!: I had 4 children in all but two of my children passed away, but i am so thankful for my two daughters i still have, having said that don't let people tell u that u need to become parents, that's a very personal and private decision, god bless!!😊
It always amazes me that strangers have the audacity to ask you about having children. It’s none of their business, and I would never ask anyone that! Your graciousness despite the audaciousness of others is always admirable. As always, thank you for sharing your beautiful life with us. 🫶🏼
Greetings from Sweden!❤ My favorite thing to watch every Sunday is Cecilia, Christoffer and Grim. Such joyful cozyness from Svalbard once a week, and I love it! 👋❤️👍
Dogs are not children and I'm sick of people talking about them as if they were. Yes, I know you love your dog and that's great, and maybe you don't want kids and that's cool too, but the two are really in no way comparable. (So if it is kids you want after all, don't have dog as a substitute :)
100% agree that having kids or not having kids are both an equally valid life choice. I felt exactly like you and then around 36 or 37, I started wanting a child. Kind of suddenly, it was hard to picture our future without one. We had our first when I was 37 and second when I was 41. Of course, now I can’t imagine our lives any other way. Lol.
You can see the contentment with your life is a direct result of making conscious choices about what makes you happy and not just ticking a box off a societally crafted list… nice to see a woman apply that approach to bringing children into this world 👏🏾
Don’t talk yourself into having a child. Live your life as you have been . Not everyone loves focusing all their choices based on what is best for another person. That’s the true role of parenthood. Sacrifice of time , energy, resources. Tolerance of every awkward growth stage that a human experiences as they grow into adulthood while providing nurturing, loving guidance. It is a commitment like none other. Be those amazing, fun aunt and uncle every child adores.

Christopher "the thing is you move to this place and if you don't like it you move back" - well said!. Also Christopher "I said if YOU want kids" and then a gentle smile. I love your transparency about wanting children. If you do decide to have a child, you may experience what many experience when they have a child and while their life was already awesome beforehand. Everything that was already truly awesome beforehand will still be fantastic, but will suddenly pale in comparison to the awesomeness they experience with their newborn child. Each stage of their life will become your favorite stage, and it never ends. Your heart will expand exponentially!

Thank you. I was married to a man older then me. I felt the same way. We chose to not have kids because our life was so so amazing and full. But years later he passed to cancer. And after a long while I remarried and had 5 kids. I’ve had the best of both worlds. My kids are older now and have all graduated and working. I guess I’m telling you because I’ve done both and ultimately it’s what you want in your lives. I loved both times in my life. If it is meant to be it will be. Just live a happy life. Thank you for showing that you can still be happy even if you aren't completely on the same page about kids. I've felt so guilty for a long time that I'm stopping him from having something that he wants, even though he says he would rather be with me without kids than with someone else with kids. I've found it hard but I am gradually accepting that he is happy with his decision and it's just so great to see someone else in the same situation. Children are a lot of work. It’s true what they say about the joy that comes along with but yeah it’s work. I would say do it though since time moves so quickly. It’s also nice to have an adult child there to help when you’re older. I feel like I JUST had my son and he’s over 8 now. We laugh so much together. He’s my favorite person. Don’t knock it!
To say your content brings me joy is an understatement… especially Christoffer content. He’s so lowkey and I love his voice. He could just narrate everything in my life and I’d be happy. UA-cam also has strict rules on showing children. Often comments will be disabled in videos here. (You can google why. It’s creepy that they have to.)

I love how Christoffer lights up when talking about the fresh vegetables 🥰 a true chef!!!!
As a woman who has chosen to not have children, It's annoying when people constantly ask why you still don't have any.
Ever. Just pets❤

I know one too many people who regret having a kid. They're perfect lives were destroyed by having one and divorce and break ups happened not long after. Don't let social convention force you into doing something you don't want.

😍 You're the best!
Yes, I commented that last week. Sunday’s are Cecilia video day and particularly winter😊
"Do you still not want kids?" What's the problem with people today? Everybody is obsessed with kids. If you like them so much, you do have kids.
Amen!! I have Cystic fibrosis, partner and I don't want them. We are happy I am healthy and that's it
I highly recommend that everyone start from the beginning.

Happily married 35 years, 60 now, we never wanted kids, no regrets!!

Also, you do not need to answer about a child. I am Cristoffer's age and have never regretted not having a child. I have lived my life following adventure and am happy and fulfilled. I spoil my friends' kids with bikes and skis and books and they let me be their friends. It works 😃
I'm 41 and never wanted kids. I LOVE being an Auntie though!!
Many womens bio blocks tick I can def say this as I have had mine I’m done but I
37-38 almost and the feeling of wanting another creeps in…..but maybe if you don’t feel strongly don’t or leave it up to if it happens it does. Don’t be afraid to say no I don’t. You still have few years left nothing wrong with being older mummy. I can see why with where you live and lifestyle why having kids would be a bigger choice.
Love you both ❤ and Grim of course
I actually think it's quite rude of strangers to ask about your desire (or not) to have kids. This is nobody else's business.

Exactly … if someone is not dying to have them BADLY. , prob shouldn’t…
Your cats will eat you when you die
I love your honesty about the desire (or lack there of) having children. Your life, your choice.❤❤❤
Hi Cecilia and Christopher, I Love you both and have really have enjoyed watching your videos! I am a 70 year old from USA and I am adopting you both!
Maybe you could try growing an indoor hydroponic vegetable garden? My cousins do it in northern U.S., and they love it! 😃
I wondered about this too. It turns out just getting some grow lights there is very costly.
They ordered it online and had to assemble it. It was heavy and her husband had to help her, but they love it. ❤️

Grim reminds me of......me. 15 -30 minutes of socializing with others then, "OK, that's enough."
I love listening to Christoffer talk. He has SUCH a calming presence. Loved this video too!

100% agree that having kids or not having kids are both an equally valid life choice. I felt exactly like you and then around 36 or 37, I started wanting a child. I wish Christopher would talk more... Please , we love hearing you talk and hear all of your different opinions ☺🌻

My husband would have kids if I wanted to, but I am leaning more towards no, just like you and Christopher. I've felt so guilty for a long time that I'm stopping him from having something that he wants, even though he says he would rather be with me without kids than with someone else with kids. I've found it hard but I am gradually accepting that he is happy with his decision and it's just so great to see someone else in the same situation. This has been so validating, thank you so much for sharing
Greetings from Canada, Svalbard fam! 😊 Thanks for the morning chat.
And as someone who is intentionally childless, I appreciate you and your thoughtful approach to deciding if children fit your life. And your delight in Bob Geldofs children’s names is my serotonin splurge for the day 😂😂😂😂
so jealous of your life you 2 are so blessed
Chris is so calm and that's lovely. You guys are so sweet together. And of course, Grimm steals the show every time. 🙂
Hello murielle
Hi Cecelia, Christopher and Grim 🤚. I can’t wait for Sundays to roll around. I so enjoy your simple, carefree way of life! What a magical place! I’d love to visit if I were younger and in better health.
Bless you all 🩷🩵💙
