Probably the best review I've seen so far, and I saw a lot! The most honest, thoughtful and sincere. Way better than most of the "sponsored" reviews so far! Congrats!
Excellent review, goes in depth to the functionality of each. I was looking to get Pocket 3 but I will end up getting Action 5. I mainly need it for travel city walks / mountain hikes, while they both do the job, i chose Action 5 because of the wider FOV and you can do with Action 5 what you do with Pocket 3 but you can't do the other way round. As for stabilization, Gyroflow in post production would do a good job calibrating the image, there is also iSteady gimbal for action cameras which is quite small and practical.
I have the Pocket 3; frankly, I wouldn't say I like it. The video and image quality is excellent, but the autonomous operation of the gimbal is not nice at all. For example, it is very tricky when I want to picture a food dish while sitting at the table. I strongly prefer the POV of GoPro where what you see is what you get. Also, the size of the screen is rather limited. I've ordered the Action 5.
definitely agree, the device is cool, but it really does have a mind of its own, and I set the device to "fast" to replicate human movements, and even then, it's not really good at it, not very natural.
Really good comparison of the pocket 3 and action 5. Both cameras are great, the pocket 3 is a winner if you need to have the camera on a tripod and you want the camera to track you like if you are making a demonstration video. The handles for both the pocket 3 and action 5 are great (two different handles) if you need a longer battery life and both handles have a mini tripod, great for placing on a hard surface.
It's better to have both. I have a Pocket 2 and a Go 3. They are both good for different things. I'm looking to upgrade. Getting ready to get a Pocket 3, but I'm waiting on the action camera. I want to see what the Ace Pro 2 is going to offer before I decide. Ace Pro 2 is coming out in the next few weeks from what I hear.
@@babyboy1971 I only have the Go 3. It's not the 3S. The version I have is not very good in low light. It also does not do well in artificial light, such as inside a mall. I also had a GoPro 11. It also sucked in these conditions. Pocket 2 can handle it pretty well. You can pick a used one really cheap these days.
@@ericd1084 I hope so, as I am actually doing the same. Ace Pro 2 is going to rock. I have the Sony ZV-1 (MK1) and it is GREAT, rivals the pocket 3 in decent light and does decent in low light too. But the stabilizer is not great and is best for locked down shots or shots with slow movements. But it rocks for a lot of stuff. Good talking head cam.
I completely agree with your observation of faster moving frames in action 5 pro. I have asked the same question with another youtuber and they all replied its all same frame rates. I knew there was something different even though same frame rate. Pocket 3 when compared gives you that rubber band feeling. of not moving forward. Dont know its just me feeling that way.
@@chemmutk1 it’s faster due to the field of view in relation to the background. The wider lens picks up an additional xx square meters that moves through the frame in the same amount of time as a smaller fov, there’s more information that is moving at higher speeds as it approaches the edges aka “relative motion” or “motion parallax”
Great comparison. Both are just as good. Personally, when I owned a Pocket cam, I always felt like I was going to break it. It's wish I can put a sun shade for my plants, as I live in FL and the sun beats on my poor new plants. Thank you.
Hi dear great explanation , appreciation can you please use osmo action 5 pro for talking head recording after firmware update? please record a video on this. at the same time if you compare it with osmo pocket 3 inside studio under same lighting conditions it would be great for me to decide among pocket 3 and osmo action 5 pro
Just ordered the Action 5 and im trying to convince myself it was a justified purchase lol Currently using pocket 3 and its great the gimble takes getting use to.
depends who you ask, for me, I think it's good enough for most things, and my conventional camera is a full frame system, I'm more about capturing the moment rather than obsessing over smaller details.
For vertical sceneries/places and family videos of kids playing, that sort of stuffs for instagram which one do u recommend? Shooting with pocket 3 in vertical and crop in to match the pocket 3 lens size ? Will we loose clarity if do that ? I mean given Action 5 pro is cheaper and waterproof.
@@chemmutk1 the action 5 has 4:3 aspect ratio, so you’re losing a bit less, action 5 for young kids, the pocket 3 is amazing but it’s a fragile device. Action 5 is so wide, you c an effectively turn anything vertical after the fact. You will lose clarity with both, but the action 5 can be turned vertical without losing quality. There’s a workaround for the pocket 3, but you lose the ability to tilt. Action 5 will be on par or superior for vertical.
i mean, if u drop your camera it breaks with lens as well as pocket 3 can :D so its nearly similar but yeah, gimbal is unfortunately fragile and not waterproof or anything but its worth it.
@@aalza3abi i made it specifically for this test, and it would only work with my specialized traveler pro case in the description, as its magnet mounted for both cameras. The way it’s designed, either cameras can point the same direction or opposite directions, and has the conventional gopro tongue.
somehow most of the detailed review is favoring and biased towards the Pocket 3, while other very good reviewers does review fairly and whereby DJI Action Pro 5 is beating my much preferred Insta360 Ace Pro which helped me decide to backout of completing my order and reconsider the current DJI Action 5 Pro being rated best by at least 8 other very good reviewers. This review does look for negatives just like other reviewers, yet he finds more negatives on the Action 5 Pro. This reviewer is 2nd out of a total of 10 very good reviewers i follow but he looked for and highlighted the negatives than the other reviewer, while the other 8 reviewed fairly and all 8 favored Action 5 Pro as being the current best and beating Instant Ace Pro slightly.
@@degelhia7402 no, the joints are two large, especially the lcd, the clearance is like 1/2mm, even light rain has chance for ingress, and there are ways that the build can shed water, but would need a disassembly to see. My guess is heck no due to the fairly large gap.
I like that there is very litter jitter in your indoor footage on the action 5. Did you set a higher shutter speed like 1/120 to achieve this effect? Looks really good. Do you mind sharing your settings? The mall footage looks really impressive for a tiny action camera. WAY better than my GoPro 12 could do. Question: I’m looking for a small action camera, not for action, but for mall walking tours, city walks and evening walks at night in the city lights and inside stores and such. Mostly POV walks. I already have a pocket 3 which is amazing, and a GoPro which is great for sunny skies but fails in low / artificial light. I want a more rugged backup to my pocket 3 that I can film inside malls with and I love the wide FOV, as you said. Honestly I think I’m leaning towards the action 5 next. Do you think it could film inside malls without jitter and with accuracy in the mixed light? Seems so, your footage in the mall looks great and that’s exactly what kind of footage I am looking to get (mall walks). Obviously the pocket 3 is the best but the action 5 did really well! Would you recommend it?
unless you can get the action 4 for the occasional bargain 200 refurb from DJI, the action 5 is unbeatable IMO. I have a few GP's and they werent as reliable, and the battery life is a bit far behind. Compared to the Action 4 at 299, you're paying 50 more for a beefier battery ($30 value at minimum), you get a slicker UI (easier more descriptive, better layout) with the always on screen, a bigger screen, ability to dual mic without receiver, generally better image quality straight from camera, better simple controls without being overwhelming, yeah, it's a great buy, kind of regret buying the action 4 early in the year, if I knew, I would have stuck with my gopros until this came out.
@@CharlieVN may I ask what your shutter speed and settings were in the mall with the action 5? Or did you have it on full auto? I learned from @TravelingAhn that you can remove jitter and blur with inside light if you use 4x shutter from frame rate. So 30FPS and 1/120 and the jitters seen in artificial light almost disappear, even when walking or moving. It’s like magic.
@@babyboy1971 full auto. There’s sports mode that is designed to reduce jitter, but I didn’t use that in the mall. This is different than the action 4 and haven’t tested extensively enough to say, but raising shutter speeds generally works with all cameras with digital stabe at the cost of increased noise
@@CharlieVN that’s all good info. Yeah from what I’ve seen the action 5 has much less noise at high shutter speed than the 4. I think that’s why I’m seeing some reviewers cranking shutter to 1/120 or even 1/240 with high ISO and the noise is very well controlled in this camera, for an action cam. Worlds better than GoPro and noticeably better than the 4. I’m looking forward to more of your videos with the action 5, you’re a great reviewer and I like that you are using the camera for daily life, not just action! Very relatable. Keep up the good work! Also, sport mode is interesting to know about. I didn’t even know it had that. It’d be cool to see what that would do for non sport stuff, like walking or driving, especially in low light.
They removed the feature where the screen is not always on when you record your video so you will not have any idea on whether you are recording or not
do you mean wearable mode? i think dji did right with that, its designed to have the pocket 3 screen face forward, can’t see it anyhow, best to turn it off. i was using that mode for much of this video. the old method did not turn off the screen so you would have to do it manually. outside of that mode, the screen can remain on forever when recording.
maybe, there are two in the market that did not succeed, and it's tech in general, one gets closer than the other, but they leave room for growth. The lens can be faster, like an f2 vs f2.8, there's definitely room for better.
