i love that bo diddley break within each chorus, this song sounds so modern because Richman's unconventional singing was ahead of its time, it predicted the stylings of indie and alternative rock, the reverb as well as the naïve and obvious lyrics are just the final touch that keeps this track absolutely timeless.

[28 April 2021] I've just listened to this song all the way through for the first time today. And I think it's the best American rock 'n' roll song I've heard in many a moon. It's an uncanny dirge; a totally secular song that nevertheless reminds me of a hymn.
I truly think I'd sell my soul to write a song this pure, and to work with musicians who could play piano and organ the way that Jerry Harrison and John Cale played on this recording.

A great sad love ballad by Jonathan Richman! I go to bakeries all day long cause there’s a lack of sweetness in my life! Brilliant line! The whole Modern Lovers Album is a classic!
I wish they would play it live maybe in Paris and do it one last time with Richman, Jerry Harrison, David Robinson and Ernie Butler! He lives in Paris. A one time Reunion Concert! Before it’s too late!.
I think it would sell out in Paris! They dig songs that are deep and moving. The whole album is brilliant! Roadrunner the classic Rock Song, Pablo Picasso, she Cracked and this one.
They are all still alive and relatively young in their fifties or so but time is running out! Soon it will be too late!
It’s like when the Velvets played Paris back in the nineties! It was a Triumphant Return! They have more European fans then any where. You can see the show on UA-cam. Now it’s history cause Lou Reed and Doug Yule are gone.

When you get out of the hospital Let me back into your life

And when you get out of the dating bar
I'll be here to get back into your life
I can't stand what you do
I'm in love with your eyes
Oh, I can't stand what you do Sometimes I can't stand you
And it makes me think about me That I'm involved with you
But I'm in love with this power that shows through in your eyes
I go to bakeries all day long There's a lack of sweetness in my life
    And there is pain inside
You can see it in my eyes
    Oh there is pain inside
You can see it in my eyes
    Makes me think about me
    That I've lost my pride
But I'm in love with this power that resides in your eyes
You live in modern apartments Well I even got scared once or twice
Last time I walked down your street
There were tears in my eyes
    Well these streets
    We all know
They help us cry when we're alone late at night
    Don't you love them too?
That where you got your eyes?
Oh I can't stand what you do Sometimes I can't stand you
And it makes me think about me How I'm involved with you
But I'm in love with this power that shows through in your eyes
Now.. your world It is beautiful
I'll take the subway to your suburb sometime
I'll seek out the places that must have been magic to your little girl mind
    Now as a little girl
    You must have been magic
I still get jealous of your old boyfriends in the suburbs sometimes
And when I walk down your street Probably be tears in my eyes
    (I knew it would happen)
I can't stand what you do Sometimes I can't stand you
And it makes me think about me That I'm involved with you
But I'm in love with this power that shows through in your eyes
So... when you get out of the hospital
Let me back into your life
I can't stand what you do
But I'm in love with your eyes

@@roshniesharma9863 look it up on streaming websites or but it online, critics for some reason hated it so much that it didn't get a theatrical release. It's an amazing movie, but has a lot of clichés. People just think cliché is synonymous with bad, but I disagree. Not only that but the film is one of the best ever to build up a consistent, welcoming atmosphere. It also actually does make you care for the characters and really sells it's impending inevitable room.

Don't know why or what it is but is song has always sent shivers down my spine - it has this strange attraction that draws me in. this song plus the brilliant addition of the film cut so well that it appears to amplify the affect of this song is just amazing. And may I point out, you the individual may not like or get the sentiments portrayed by the song/video, be a bit wary because:
    1) you don't like it and is fare enough, it is serenely not everyone's cup of tea.
    2) It touches a nerve, in which case use it as a positive escape.
So as a song it can have deep emotional affect on some people and in my case a beneficial release of.....? Hmm? - don't know but I feel better for it.

    Cuando salgas del hospital
    déjame regresar a tu vida.
Me pregunto por qué me he menospreciado...
    Ahora tu mundo es hermoso.
    Pronto tomaré el metro hacia tu vecindario;
intentaré encontrar los lugares que fueron mágicos
para tu pequeña mente de niña.
En esa época debiste haber sido magnífica.
    A veces incluso siento envidia
de tus antiguos novios del vecindario.
Y cuando camine por tu calle
    probablemente termine llorando,
    déjame regresar a tu vida.
    No soporto lo que haces,
pero sigo enamorado de tus ojos.
