It's an uncanny dirge; a totally secular song that nevertheless reminds me of a hymn. I truly think I'd sell my soul to write a song this pure, and to work with musicians who could play piano and organ the way that Jerry Harrison and John Cale played on this recording.

Only if you take it seriously... it sounds Modern Lovers imitating Frank Zappa imitating the Modern Lovers... genuine, yes, but also kind of funny because JR is being so deliberately overdramatic. Jonathan and The Modern Lovers was the best band I ever saw live (and I have seen a few). Jonathan is spellbinding - they played at The Hammersmith Odeon in the early 80's and Affection was nearly half an hour long.

It's an amazing movie, but has a lot of clichés. People just think cliché is synonymous with bad, but I disagree. Not only that but the film is one of the best ever to build up a consistent, welcoming atmosphere. It also actually does make you care for the characters and really sells it's impending inevitable room.
I love music from the 70s and this masterpiece is one of my favourite. I think that the fascinating thing of this song is how much sounds new. It doesn't seem a 70s song but at the same time there's some part where you can year the inflouence of that era.

What a cool track and film - heading towards 61 now ( yikes) but this brings back those memories of girls who had beautiful eyes and seemed beyond the reach of an ordinary guy like myself but luckily I found that person later in life so sometimes it's just about being patient.
Don't know why or what it is but is song has always sent shivers down my spine - it has this strange attraction that draws me in. this song plus the brilliant addition of the film cut so well that it appears to amplify the affect of this song is just amazing. And may I point out, you the individual may not like or get the sentiments portrayed by the song/video, be a bit wary because: 1) you don't like it and is fare enough, it is serenely not everyone's cup of tea. 2) It touches a nerve, in which case use it as a positive escape. So as a song it can have deep emotional affect on some people and in my case a beneficial release of.....? Hmm? - don't know but I feel better for it.

The only reason I'm happy about Hot Summer Nights being underrated is that this song would never reach TikTok and reels. Such a blissful masterpiece.
Don't know why or what it is but is song has always sent shivers down my spine - it has this strange attraction that draws me in. this song plus the brilliant addition of the film cut so well that it appears to amplify the affect of this song is just amazing. And may I point out, you the individual may not like or get the sentiments portrayed by the song/video, be a bit wary because:
1) you don't like it and is fare enough, it is serenely not everyone's cup of tea.
2) It touches a nerve, in which case use it as a positive escape.
So as a song it can have deep emotional affect on some people and in my case a beneficial release of.....? Hmm? - don't know but I feel better for it.
