OMG I took the same CAD class from Mr Kiley in the AV! I also took his autoshop class as well as the ag mechanics shop class in the same high school.

Thank you! Perfect timing! I'm practicing with fusion360 recently.

"Nearly" is a good thing to bear in mind - sometimes you need to build things strong enough to survive the abuse it gets, but weak enough to fail in a planned way to protect other, more critical or expensive, components if things go a-miss.

Aka mechanical fuses. For instance, blowing up a clutch is much cheaper and safer than blowing up the gearbox.

Missed this one when it came out. Great stories, thanks!
I recently rediscovered my love of modelling through Fusion and cars.
I did learned Maya in my animation degree 14 years ago but I graduated during the GFC and pivoted to corporate. Been there ever since.
Bought an Ender 5 and now I spend my free time making brackets, mounts and plugs, including with materials like ASA, for my 350Z I'm slowly building up. I'd love to do it at least semi-professionally down the track.

39:14 is where the discussion about tools starts, if anyone is more interested in that but. Everything else is really interesting though

I think there’s a point in this that is being misidentified.
I believe Matt is attributing too much to experience, which I believe is actually the the result of developing, “ways of thinking, thought processes”, resourcing and applying “experience”.
It seems to me, too many people are being taught to think in a two dimensional way of thinking, meaning relying on programs and apps for canned solutions, rather then taking a three dimensional way of thinking, to understand and apply the lessons of experience and analysis.
To me, this is what sets apart individuals from the average person, for understanding and application of experience and intuition.

Also gotta remember that all these cad and or cam problems don't take into account individual machine capabilities, or even just the way each controller does things like wpc and tool calls. If the program your using cant output too your machine then it's good.. if the machine doesn't have enough axies then it's another setup to achieve that.. process. But all cad/cam programs do is spit out 1000's and 1000's lines of code m and g code.. it's just more precise with it for the most part..

I done the same with m @ g codes on Hyundai lathes and then more conversational programs like mazak, centroid and mastercam. Listing to him was interesting there are things in that and g code programing as well as the higher end things which generally prevent crashes through toolpath simulations, (although it can still happen and easily through some means).. I was I guess thrown into the deep end with maybe a couple days of loading parts then into setups then basic programing within a month or so... but it makes sense as just having someone load parts doesn't really make money. The other machinests could easily run that machine your just loading parts into machines with proven setups ontop of what their doing. Chasing speeds is not always achievable on the machine your running as tooling advances they generally require higher spindle speeds machine loads, is kinda like PC games.. new games often require new or at the least an upgraded machine but that's not always possible.
