I was doing it on T16 and ran about 100 Chiltara kills. Saw your vid, dropped to Normal and got it on first kill. Thank u Veiled. I subbed. Much appreciated.
Important note for anyone on console... You only need the plan, the black mushroom, Wirt's Bell, and the Gibbering Gemstone. No shinbone or liquid rainbow needed
Got 4x icefall and 1x caverns of frost. Then I tried setting it to normal like you said, and I got it first try after that. So all in all 5 mins. :D Thanks for the guide.
Okay so I put it to the test, this is february 2024. I did the campaign mode till Act 3 mission 7: Heart of Sin. From there I started farming the Bridge of Korsikk. I've found the Cave of Frost 9 times, and found Chiltara all 9 times. So I think it is safe to say that doing it in campaign mode gives a 100% for the boss to spawn. I did it 8 times on normal. The 9th time I switched from normal mode to T16, and that's when the Gibbering Gemstone dropped. Don't know if that is a coincidence but it did drop instantly when I switched to T16.
As far as the alcoves go (for liquid rainbow) there's always one northern and one southern, after you hit the first, check left for a watery area and a wood structure with stairs. If you see it then that's the northern alcove, if not it is southern. Then just hug the southern border of the map either north or south to the next one.
For finding the alcove for the Mysterious Cave, just start at the Ancient Waterway WP and go back to the Oasis. Stay along the right hand side of the map and follow its edge. You'll find both alcoves every time.
too long to get both like this, best to go oasis WP and one is always south and second is always east then south (from the waypoint that is) So u go WP go south then WP again and go east south - best to do it in duo
@dreams I find this way the most efficient too. Particularly if you have played the game a lot the landscape of that right side doesn’t change. It’s easy to work out where you are.
Great information in this tutorial :) . Something I would like to add to the recipe chapter, the way you said it, makes it seem like a guaranteed drop, when in fact the recipe is not a guaranteed drop. Just wanted to save some disappointment off of potential staff of herding hunters in case they do not get it on their first tries :) .
@@VeiledShot Yup usually I get it like in the first couple of tries, this season it took me like 50 tries in order to get it, this was my 2nd hardest thing to get this season 😰 ( I think I am like an edge case :D )
Yes, for console players, you just need the Mushroom, Gibbering Gemstone, Wirts Bell, and the plans to craft the staff. Just make sure to check your blacksmith to see if he already knows how to craft the staff before you start farming Izual, as he will not drop the plans if you have already taught Haedrig how to make it, making it seem as if you are just unlucky.
Gibbering Gemstone took me 3.5 hours. I set difficulty to "normal", went into story mode/act3. I tweaked my farming build for maximum speed at the expense of damage & defensive options. I was expecting to find Chiltara at the exit obelisk at the end of floor 2 of the Caverns of Frost but quite often that didn't happen. So I started clearing floor 2 completely and that's how I got my Gibbering Gemstone. When you're speeding through killing everything you don't have time to see the name of the enemy so you have to check drops. It's less of a pain if your pet is picking up most stuff, anything left is either crafting materials, legendary or the gemstone. So now I need one more primal... I'd be there already but the last 2 primals were really useful so I kept them. I'm farming GR90's and I know I need to get faster and do GR100's. I'm also only P830 or so. Casual (i.e. time constrained) player. Also spent some time finishing the season journey.
im starting my third day of grinding the Gibbering gemstone on T16, chilltarra is showig up in every 3rd or 4th caverns of frost, but damn doesnt want to give up the gemstone...
@@carlossvensson3482 Ouch. I wish you better luck! Are you maximising your chances by running in story mode? Chiltara is (allegedly) guaranteed to be in the Caverns if you are at the start of the quest for clearing the area where the caverns spawn. I did read a post from someone who did over 500 runs in adventure mode, killed Chiltara 375 times, got nothing. People disagree about drop rate & spawn rate being tied to difficulty. I ran in "normal" difficulty so it was super easy & I could concentrate on speed. Still took hours but VeiledShot had it worse. Fingers crossed for you!
Seriously, another BEST way is to join the Staff of Herding Community. Click one of the button on bottom right of your UI, click community > Type Staff of Herding and join the community. Most people will call out for CoF which is Cavern of Frost for Chiltara. The rest is pretty self explanatory. Got my staff done in less than 3 hours. The only one that took some time was farming Izual for the recipe. Granted farming chiltara can takes alot of time too if you're not blessed by the RNG
@@tombosley3048 yeah, being in the Herding community, you just joined someone's game for Chiltara and its fast. I think I got lucky and got gemstone at 4-5th try. Took me almost 38 Izuals before the plan finally dropped. RNG RNG
On console I just needed the black mushroom, bell from Squirt and the gemstone. It still took me about 4hrs overall from getting the plan to crafting it. The mushroom didn't take too long, Squirt immediately had the bell in her inventory so it's probably a guarantee, but holy shit Chiltara... If I wasn't struggling to get her to drop the gemstone then I was struggling to get the cave to spawn! Maybe I should've dropped out of torment as I did the entire grind at T16🤦 I'd say the cave spawned 40% of the time and Chiltara on popped up half that chance! I must've killed her at least 50x!
Thank you for mentioning that info about consoles. Spend a few hours opening mysterious chests with no liquid. Nobody is talking about it in there guides.
I rushed the campaign with GoD DH for this. The best thing is that in campaign (Act III, Machines of War), when Caverns spawn, Chiltara is guaranteed to spawn there. But still, I think I have made about 30 attempts with no gem drop so far. Now, I kinda do five tries every evening and then switch back to Greater Rifts :D
@@henley1438 Oh, dont give up yet! Campaign is much more efficient - actually, I got the gemstone the very same evening after I made the previous post (it took maybe 50 Chiltaras...). The way I approached it in the end, was to take five Cavern attempts in campaign (with guaranteed Chiltara), if not, proceed to something else, and make another five attempts on the next day. I just did the campaign up until I could kill chiltara and she did not drop the gibbering gemstone. was running the campaign on t1, no drop, reduced difficulty to normal and no drop either. Doesn't look like a guaranteed drop unfortunately.
I also play on PS5 and OMFG!! I have been at it for TWO days, over 8hrs and NOTHING.....I can't seem to get the Gibbering Gemstone. Does anyone know if the drop rate is worse on PS5?
Just curious, why does one want Staff of Herdig nowadays? I haven't seen it in the season quests, is it a conquest? Will it be listed as complete if I did it another season?
Just wanted to say, I tried maybe 10 or 15 runs at T16 to get Gibbering Gemstone, nothing, tried 10 or 15 at normal, nothing. I decided I did not want to be one of the unlucky ones, spending 10 hours or more running this dumb route. So I spent about an hour time running through the campaign to hit Act 3, got it on my second run. Thanks so much for saving me potentially hours and hours of useless farming.
I got the gemstone on about my 3rd try. It took me more than 20 times to get the flingin' flangin' plans from Izual though. I was looking for a bounty to kill Izual so I could get an arrow pointing me to the Great Span.
I’m hoping you can answer my question…. I have been playing for a few years, and possibly found the gibbering stone already, but I could have accidentally sold it. Not realizing what it was for. I was new to the game. Could that play a role the difficulty of finding it, or could I have possibly lost it for good out my ignorance? Lol 😂
Why would the drop rate be better on normal for gibbering gemstone ,when the drop rate for magic items increases on T16? Also, why does noone talk about the Nagelring ? Does it not influence items like this?
Me too... I spent more time watching this video than I did farming the ingredients. I was all resigned to a long night of repetitive d3 dungeon runs, and then got everything in about 12 min. Got the gibbering gemstone on my second try somehow. 😅 Tbf tho, I'm on console so I don't need the rainbow or shinbone, so it's already a little easier for me than you PC ppl.
So to further the "best way" I just finished getting the gibbering gemstone after doing the story mode until I got to Act III and the mission to cross the bridge. I kept resetting game until I found caverns of frost and completed it on the 7-10 attempt. When the COF was there she was there 100% of the time so 7-10 kills and she dropped it. I farmed it in adventure mode for almost 6hrs and never seen the gem.
I don't think the recipe is a guaranteed drop from Izual. I've killed him 15 times now and he didn't drop it. I don't have it learned either. This is turning out to be the hardest one to get. Unless Im missing something. Edit: it took me 16 times to get the recipe lol
didnt hear it in the video, but read that a good idea is to run korliskk bridge in campaign mode and not adventure, that way Chiltara spawns 100% of the time
I did a loop of all the drop items that I didn't have then reset. It took me about 15 resets to collect the recipe, mushroom and Leoric's bones. 20 to get the one from the Mysterious Cave. Another 25-30 to get the gem. Not too bad. Just annoying to find whether the right cave is on the map and whether Chiltara spawns in floor 2. I'd say that I killed the mob 15 times before the gem dropped. All my runs were T16 bounties.
I just farmed it in less than 15 minutes :O ... got everything except the Gibbering Gemstone in the first try, and the Gemstone in my second try :) ... I AM NEVER THIS LUCKY
Or you got to be very unlucky, anyway first of all check in blacksmith in town, maybe you already got it! Or you should keep trying, be strong my friend, it will definitely drop eventually✌️ have you managed to got it already ?
i just got the glittering gemstone, i got REALLY lucky and it took only 5 mins, what i do is create a game look for the bounty for caves of frost , if there go for it if not, then leave and remake game, I do the same for the mysterious chest in the oasis this was done on normal, BUT for some reason the plan did nto drop so going to increase the T level to 16
Actually the fastest way is getting one and sacrificing it. After hours of farming and sacrificing it to the altar got a copy almost instantly after doing bounties. First not-try each component. Never fails...
I have been checking for the cave before I exit any game, seems like a waste not to. Working on 3+ hrs farming for the gemstone right now. It’s the last piece needed.
From my experience I have only gotten the gibbering gemstone from campaign mode, this I have done over 500 bounties and many in the icefall cave and never got it to drop. Second attempt doing the campaign got it on second try. I'll have to try it on normal already got the staff for the alter but wanted to farm some of mats for the staff to have that portal to the rainbow world with happy clouds to stock up on gems. This season is fun for me already completed the journey and I plan to try multiple builds and try all the classes. Figure this season can kill enough time for me until the Diablo 4 comes out.
That stoopid monolith at the end of frost cavernsakes me paranoid. I'm feard that gemstone drop will ne close to it andall I can click will be the monolith
I play on Nintendo switch. Are requirements different for that version ? If so, what are the requirements? It's been difficult to find good information because most people seem to play PC
Just got all 3 components the plan for the staff of hearding 1st try I have farmed for this for countless hours before on previous season runs and this has never happened to me I also ran into a treasure goblin about 10 meters from Chilltara that gave me a brand new pet
Addition to the Liquid Rainbow: The second alcove is also to the south. One is East, one is West but both on the "bottom" of the map. They're always there!
No way to drop Gibbering Gemstone, already spend 10h pushing that sit caves of frost and killed many times the boss Chiltara but still nothing also changed many times the level from T16 - T10-normal one but that also dont help much
got the gem it in about 35 mins of trying. All I can say is...put the game on normal. got the icefalls like 3 times back to back then I got frost and after the kill there it was.
The best way to get grimmering stone is to do campaign mode there is a quest to kill it so u get the cave 100 % and boss so if it doesn't drop just leave game risen and repeat
One thing that may have been helpful to say regarding the Black Mushroom is that you should be on Campaign mode instead of Adventure mode. I spent a long time finding nothing in Adventure mode and the first time I played through the story mode I found the mushroom.
I was really unlucky with the mushroom and the Liquid Rainbow but got the gemstone first try sorry for all that have too farm that for hours thanks for the video really helped alot
Just found your channel. I'm sure you get this all the time but you remind me of Kit Harrington. Thanks for the video, I'll start farming. I've heard that console people don't need the liquid rainbow and Leorics shinbone for the staff.
Holy crap - 3 times Icefall Caves - then 4th time reloading - found Caverns of Frost - and BAM - first kill Chiltara - DROPPED IT! Wow wow wow....never this lucky.
I only had to try twice to get the gibbering gemstone. First go was on T16. Dropped it down to normal as you suggested and idk if it was coincidence or what but I got it on my first run through the frost caves after dropping down. I had to reload once because the glacier quest came up, but then I got the frost caves quest and I got the gem. 🤷
Yup just switched to Normal from t16 and found it straight away, shitty thing is it took literally 50 tries, found the room twice both times empty, switched to Normal straight away ffs
Well I'm a bit of hoarder and actually kept the Gibbering Gemstone from doing bounties lmao huge W but i'm like so many attempts deep in getting the recipe it just won't drop

@@-Highlander-42 Are you sure you're checking every part of map? Just because you see empty dead end doesn't mean Chiltara isn't there hiding under the ground.
uh goddamn, i got leoric bone 2nd try, mushroom frist try, gemstone second chiltara kill (3rd cave) and liquid rainbow in 3 caves (spent around 10min looking for caves) id say thats pretty lucky lol
5 hours on T16 to Get the Gemstone 2 min (2st try) on Normal Not sure if this makes any difference but yeah. Also, same Normal run - Cow Level Goblin I Ranted on general how unlucky I am and this happened - felt like a Blizzard employee helped me out there ;d
Xbox... I try for this staff every season. Been farming the Gibbering Gemstone for years, literally. Over 500 Chilltara kills and no Gibbering Gemstone.
Ive been in that exact situation when crafting it several years ago, everyone getting it for 2, 5, 10 hours was only laughing at me that it can't be true. Im very sorry, but random in d3 can be really rough and tough sometimes...🖐️
You are correct, difficulty has no impact on the drop rate for the gemstone. People just advise doing it on normal simply because it's easier and faster. For me, I did it on T16 as well because I already had a build that can fly through T16, and I saw no "need" to drop down in difficulty.
Check all areas in a game before creating a new game. Also the alcove is at the lowest point on the left and right, it is not the same distance from the top. I have done this on 10 accounts.
I've probably killed Izual about 100 times at this point and still haven't gotten the plans to drop, same with the shin bone 😭 Despite this, I've got the bell, the mushroom, and TWO GIBBERING GEMSTONES! ... Not complaining, I just find it funny I'm struggling so much in the easiest two (not including the bell) but got two of the gemstones by total accident
IDK if I was just this lucky but I restarted the game 3 times until I got the bounty to clear the caverns of stone... and got the gemstone at my first attempt!

Or you got to be very unlucky, anyway first of all check in blacksmith in town, maybe you already got it! Or you should keep trying, be strong my friend, it will definitely drop eventually✌️ have you managed to got it already ?
The second one was to your top right. Nice guide!
i just got the glittering gemstone, i got REALLY lucky and it took only 5 mins, what i do is create a game look for the bounty for caves of frost , if there go for it if not, then leave and remake game, I do the same for the mysterious chest in the oasis this was done on normal, BUT for some reason the plan did nto drop so going to increase the T level to 16
Actually the fastest way is getting one and sacrificing it. After hours of farming and sacrificing it to the altar got a copy almost instantly after doing bounties. First not-try each component. Never fails...
Thanks so much for the guide! It literally took me 30 minutes because gibbering gemstone dropped on my 1st attempt. ;)
I always double-check my chat log to see if I killed Chiltara if I have cleared the 2nd level, but didn't notice her.
Yea, although I found that sometimes it didn't show even though I did kill her, so I figured I'd show the model so people know what to look for.
If you play campaign CotF is not guaranteed but you may have a higher chance for cave to spawn because you don't have bounties 😀
Just got one after 3-4 attempts on normal campaign. You can look at the just to see if you killed her.
On god, it dropped the very first time I ran it lol. Took me an hour to find the shroom and shinbone though lol. So I deserved a little love!
That stoopid monolith at the end of frost cavernsakes me paranoid. I'm feard that gemstone drop will ne close to it andall I can click will be the monolith
So most of the time, when I do get the caves, it's Zeluse The Grasping in the place, not Chaltara. Which makes the drop chance way less :/
Izual allways drops?
I found the mysterious chest 4 times and i didnt get it.... Is that normal?
Took me 1 attempt to get Chiltara and 2 to get the rainbow. And I am grateful. lol
Wow, you are the lucky one !!
same lol
I play on Nintendo switch. Are requirements different for that version ? If so, what are the requirements? It's been difficult to find good information because most people seem to play PC
I believe that on console you do not need the shinbone or liquid rainbow.
@@VeiledShot thanks 👍
Just got all 3 components the plan for the staff of hearding 1st try I have farmed for this for countless hours before on previous season runs and this has never happened to me I also ran into a treasure goblin about 10 meters from Chilltara that gave me a brand new pet
Geez, farmed it for like 5 hours on T16, dropped on the 4th kill on normal.
TY very much for info. Story mode in Normal got it for me after about 25 tries.
I just started playing Diablo 3 and I found my gibbering gemstone in 5 mins also not sure why but the rainbow and bone isn’t needed
Addition to the Liquid Rainbow: The second alcove is also to the south. One is East, one is West but both on the "bottom" of the map. They're always there!
not true! depending on the layout it can spawn wherever. just got one that was north east from spawn
same for me. and they are "connected" or in the middle of them, is a wooden path with small stairs leading a bit up and down to the wooden path
whole thing took me about 1.5-2 hours only, not too bad. thanks a bunch for the tips
Why doesn't the recipe drop?
No way to drop Gibbering Gemstone, already spend 10h pushing that sit caves of frost and killed many times the boss Chiltara but still nothing also changed many times the level from T16 - T10-normal one but that also dont help much
got the gem it in about 35 mins of trying. All I can say is...put the game on normal. got the icefalls like 3 times back to back then I got frost and after the kill there it was.
The best way to get grimmering stone is to do campaign mode there is a quest to kill it so u get the cave 100 % and boss so if it doesn't drop just leave game risen and repeat
I have probably 14 hours into farming chiltara, still haven't gotten my gemstone
On console you need the Plans , Black Mushroom and Gibbering Gemma . Liquid Rainbow doesn't exist on console and Leoric's shinbone is useless .
One thing that may have been helpful to say regarding the Black Mushroom is that you should be on Campaign mode instead of Adventure mode. I spent a long time finding nothing in Adventure mode and the first time I played through the story mode I found the mushroom.
I can't say if you get a 100% dropchance in the campaign on the mushroom, but I found it on adventure mode
found it on level 1 i was looking for it in level 2 XD, but yes it can be found on adventure found it pretty quickly 10 or so mins
I found it in adventure mode as well, the second time I got the right room to spawn in the Cathedral level 1
Not 100% on campaign, just past cathedral level 1 bit ago and wasn't there.
I was really unlucky with the mushroom and the Liquid Rainbow but got the gemstone first try sorry for all that have too farm that for hours thanks for the video really helped alot
TY! Its my second league, so i apreciate your help! And i had some luck, obtained all this items for 20 mins :D
It's not some luck, you were VERY lucky !! Grats ✌️
Gibbering Gemstone 1hour for me dude.. Thank you so much for the Guide. :)
Ty for the guide. I shit you not, got the Shinbone, Mushroom and Gemstone all first try. I'm on console too so didn't need Liquid Rainbow lol
Just found your channel. I'm sure you get this all the time but you remind me of Kit Harrington. Thanks for the video, I'll start farming. I've heard that console people don't need the liquid rainbow and Leorics shinbone for the staff.
Thank you! :)
Gibbering is a pain. I run it and killed the dude about 80 times before it dropped. I did it on Soft core and now I need to do it on hard core. ug.
Yeah it's a real pain sometimes, be strong✌️
Holy crap - 3 times Icefall Caves - then 4th time reloading - found Caverns of Frost - and BAM - first kill Chiltara - DROPPED IT! Wow wow wow....never this lucky.
Love to hear it my friend!
Thanks for the vid bro. Btw I got the gibbering gemstone in like 10 runs 😂
Dude I've been farming the plans for 3 hours
I can't get the plan to drop. It's the only thing I need!!!! Smdh
I found my black mushroom in a level WITH the spiral staircase to Leoric's passage
Well I'm a bit of hoarder and actually kept the Gibbering Gemstone from doing bounties lmao huge W but i'm like so many attempts deep in getting the recipe it just won't drop
I Farmed for an hour on Torment than switched to Normal and got Gebstone first try. So maybe try Normal.
i am hunting the black mashroom 3 hours and nothing yet ... ;/
You are gurannteed the burnt logs when ever you see the 2 ghost when u walk into the manor. also with chritka i always get the get the gemstone when im on my way to her and see atleast 3 piles of rocks i get it everytime i see that
Ooo good tip!
Heard running in T7 will get better chance for the gibbering gemstone. I also run in T7 and get it in 15-20min. Good luck!
Interesting... I have about 30 Chiltaras in T16 with no drops...
OMG! It took me 1hour and 15 minutes to find all the things needed for teh staff! Thnx Veiled Shot
Glad to hear it!
@@-Highlander-42 Are you sure you're checking every part of map? Just because you see empty dead end doesn't mean Chiltara isn't there hiding under the ground.
Got mine in 30 minutes, was doing torment level, switched to normal, first try gotnit
uh goddamn, i got leoric bone 2nd try, mushroom frist try, gemstone second chiltara kill (3rd cave) and liquid rainbow in 3 caves (spent around 10min looking for caves) id say thats pretty lucky lol
Awesome guide. thank you!
5 hours on T16 to Get the Gemstone
2 min (2st try) on Normal
Not sure if this makes any difference but yeah.
Also, same Normal run - Cow Level Goblin
I Ranted on general how unlucky I am and this happened - felt like a Blizzard employee helped me out there ;d
Xbox... I try for this staff every season. Been farming the Gibbering Gemstone for years, literally. Over 500 Chilltara kills and no Gibbering Gemstone.
"farming the gibbering gemstone for 4 hours, 5 hours, 6 hours".. Try 9 hours a day for a week and a half.
Ive been in that exact situation when crafting it several years ago, everyone getting it for 2, 5, 10 hours was only laughing at me that it can't be true. Im very sorry, but random in d3 can be really rough and tough sometimes...🖐️
this took me 346 hours to get gemring gemstone
I got the shinbone and mushroom BEFORE I got the plan.
Shinbone is easiest, and quickest, to find imo.
hour 3, no gibbering gemstone.... PSA its quicker to hit T and then exit game than exiting when you in the game oustide of town
I did it on T16 and got it on the 2nd time chiltara spawned , so I don't think the difficulty has anything to say. It's 100% random.
You are correct, difficulty has no impact on the drop rate for the gemstone. People just advise doing it on normal simply because it's easier and faster. For me, I did it on T16 as well because I already had a build that can fly through T16, and I saw no "need" to drop down in difficulty.
I opened the mysterious chest and nothing comes out
Check all areas in a game before creating a new game. Also the alcove is at the lowest point on the left and right, it is not the same distance from the top. I have done this on 10 accounts.
I've probably killed Izual about 100 times at this point and still haven't gotten the plans to drop, same with the shin bone 😭
Despite this, I've got the bell, the mushroom, and TWO GIBBERING GEMSTONES!
I tried for liquid rainbow for about 4 hours today, the mysterious cave spawned once with no chest... Got 2 of everything else
