It's not practical to give gitft cards as a gift instead of cash. Why so many people do it?
they dont want people buy drugs and nefarious things
They can buy alcohol and tobacco with the gift card.
If the gifted person have other money he can use the money from the cards to pay for groceries. This way will save cash for "nefarious things". Only very poor people will not have this opportunity.

Gift cards are often used by criminals. Best to stop selling any kind of gift cards. And I don't see why people need them anyway, just buy a real gift or give cash.

He uses his credit card perks which he can purchase gift cards for less than Face value. Like a $100 card might only cost him $90 so he’s talking about how to spend the monies on the card
