Happened to me. There are thousands of complaints especially for Vanilla visa card. Beware
One thing wrong that this guy is saying is to check the card after you buy it.
Nooo do not do that!
When you are shopping for the gift card, and you’re standing there debating on which one to buy… LOOK AT IT THEN AND INSPECT IT BEFORE GOING TO THE REGISTER!!!!
The reason I am saying this is bc… when you purchase the gift card, the money goes to the card!
And “THE STORE CAN NOT REFUND YOU THE MONEY!”
The cashiers may or may not tell you that.
So… It’s easy to see if it’s been tampered with.
If you want to tell the cashier, “Hey I want to inspect this gift card before you ring it up to be sure it’s not been tampered with”
They will be happy to do that bc even if you don’t get the gift card, it’s of no loss to the store, maybe a penny of that!
But don’t go buying a gift card then go back in and say “ I need to return this bc of blah blah blah”
Bc they can’t. And retail store personnel are SO BUSY. And you’ll cause a traffic jam at the register with that dumb stuff so please be looking at it before you buy it.
Someone can go into a store and just take gift cards off the rack in stacks. There is no monetary value to them so no one really looks twice. They can take it home, do what they have to then bring it back to same store and put it back on the rack.

My first time using the vanilla Visa gift card was March 2023. My niece sent me two $100 cards but after useing them $62 was stolen from the first one,and $89 was stolen from the second card.That was my first and last experience with gift cards.NEVER AGAIN
Me too...i lost 41 dollars on my first ever purchase on the net....never again...i will drive to the store to shop for now on.
They just need to put all the gift cards behind the counter that would really help.

They don't even have to take the physical card anymore. What they do is open the package, skim the card and put the card info onto another blank card with a mag strip (which can be ordered online). It's like going and making a copy of your key for your house. Then they put the card back into the package (or ones they order online) and throw it on the shelf and wait for someone to purchase it as they check the website and wait for the money. Then they go to a self-check out and use that card to clear your account while you still have the physical card not knowing what happened. They literally don't even have to make the card look legit anymore as most places have self-checkout and don't even check. This is what just happened to me.
They still have to tamper with the sealed packaging?
@@BeatTheBush No what I mean by that is they throw away the old card packaging after they open it and put a new one on it which is sealed.
My card from Christmas was spend on the 17th and 18th of January. I’m so sad! I spent my own money on an online purchase because I figured I’d still have it in plastic. WRONG. Never accepting a visa giftcard again. I’m instantly giving it back and warning them to get a refund ASAP.
So who is buying stolen card info..? Do they even know they’re spending stolen money??? Mine was spent on groceries!
@@BeatTheBush Basically, they have a Plug/Connect AKA "Middle Man" with someone that works for the printing place who makes the packages for the cards (which is usually over in China) and they will pay this person to send them a stack of let's say 1,000 freshly printed packages off their most recent prints just off the machines. Then when they get them in the mail they will hit up a bunch of stores open the giftcards, record all of the info and repackage the cards in the brand-new packages that they were sent from the printers. Does that make more sense?
@@alwaysyouramanda Usually the people using the card know that it's stolen for the most part at least for your case and the reason I say that is bc once the money is loaded they have to hurry up and spend it before you bc they don't know if you plan on holding onto it or spending it right after it's been loaded.
On the other hand, if you've received a gift card that has a fake copy of a card or sticker stuck on the back of yours, It's already too late. Your money was loaded onto another card which the scammer has and no matter what you do the funds will not show up or come back to your card.
Your best bet is to contact the card company itself instead of where you purchased it from bc the store will not be able to do anything about it. However, the card company is usually pretty understanding about the issue and will most likely refund your money if you take the proper steps inorder to do so.

you can use a steamer to peel it off apart and then use a slightly strong adhesive to glue it back. Of course It has to be exact lined up so it dont look sus. Also they can use a dummy card and print the barcode on the back of them and scratching that before you open it wont work. They can also make a duplicate card but different barcode on a completely fake card. There a small machine that makes these cards and a type of typewriter machine that does the numbers
The way he is describing it is too many steps and difficult for the thief. Although, it IS one way. The way I saw a thief doing this was: I was in Walmart and saw this guy with some kind of reader machine like a crossbody purse. He grabbed the whole rack of gift cards and walked around the store as he 'scanned' each card into his machine. THEN he put all the cards back on the shelf. When someone would purchase the card and then put money on it I think it would alert him somehow and he or his people would take the money off the cards as fast as it was put on there. This particular Walmart store keeps all of the cards in a secured area now and have even stopped selling certain cards altogether. You can only get them online. I was a victim before I actually saw/caught the guy doing it. I reported him to the Walmart manager and I don't know if they informed the police or not.

I just opened a gift card that had been sent to me 3 months ago as a reward. The packaging does not appear to have been tampered with at all, no tears, no gluing. And the card inside is the original, no photo copy or anything. Looking at the transaction history, the company who sent it to me bought it ("in-store load"), and 25 days later it was used at a hotel. It wasn't until 5 months after that that they sent it to me in the mail, and by the time I noticed it, it's been 8 months. So if my observations are correct in that the physical packaging was not tampered with, this has to either be an inside job, or some fraudster is out there just guessing credit card numbers and expiration dates, and occasionally gets lucky. It's more likely that this is a non-contact inside job, meaning that the fraudsters have a list of credit card numbers, without having to open the packaging.

i bought a gift card and now this morning i try to use it and it says i used it on dish when i dont even have dish and its in a hole other location i live in alabama its a hole different state
That might have happened to me, I bought gift cards for some friends and one of them came back with no funds available from what I was told so of course I had to get them another gift card and immediately I checked to see if I had money on it. And there was funds on it, but it's sad that Walmart continues to sell these gift cards knowing that people are going to get ripped off so anyone out there do yourself a favor don't buy gift cards at Walmart.
I got a card for my brother that had $40 on it he did not buy everything but he got a soda and the cashier said he had 53 cents

I purchased 5 gift cards during the Christmas season from Walgreens, and the cashier gave me a hard time. She loaded more than the amount I asked for. I ended up paying for it and left the store. After I gave them out for gifts one of the cards were returned to me because somehow the cvv code was scratched off. I tried calling vanilla, but cannot get to a actual person. I don't know what to do..any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Gift cards can be registered under your name, but nobody, including myself, ever takes the time to do it. So gift cards are basically anonymous.
I only got to use half of my gift card, before it went to no funds, and it is an absolute nightmare to protest a fraudulent purchase. A. There is no number listed in which an actual person is available.B. it took weeks just to get the forms filled out and hear back from someone who of course was absolutely useless. Never again never. Still haven't got ny $50 back. Don't care about the money so much but it's the feeling of getting burnt that sux. Oh well 50 but to learn the hard way

They usually refund if you or they notice it right when you buy it. But if you leave and come back, I have seen them refuse and you’ll have to deal with it through the gift card company.

2 years ago I had gotten a gift card for Christmas that a family member gotten from work for 150.00 and I go to use it and register it and it was never in the system.i called whatever number was on the back and they had no gift card number in the system so I threw it away after so long

I got an email from wisely saying that my card has been declined from not enough funds and apparently I tried to use it on apple. But the thing is, I never got that card before and I never been on apple. So I dunno if someone has been using a card under my email somehow or, if it's just a phishing email.
i bought a boost mobile card at Walmart went home scratched the back off called the number and a recording said the card is invalid? I went back to Walmart and they said they couldn't give me my money back because the card had already been used??? SO i called boost and a nice guy i talked to said that when i went to the cash register and swiped the card the card was then invalided? right at that moment? then i called walmarts ceo and told him what happened and he told me to go to be at the store and he will instruct them to give me my money back! well they made me wait for over a half an hour till i got pissed off!! i will never buy another card!!

It's not a inside job .they use an exacto knife like a really sharp surgical tool or put it in an environment such as like a sauna the moisture in the hot-air will loosen the glue back up.

These gift cards also charge 7% off the top to purchase then. Hard to get that back on some bargain, and way more than sending a money order or check
The tamper proof packages can be made with a printer designed for it. Different printer but same concept as printing fake or legit ID cards, every gym membership card was made by printer.
But since the dawn of scams employees have assisted for max risk & low as reward or were patient and are making all or most scam revenue and used patients watching and charisma to allow questions they ask to get quality answer's. Or they have a a partner doing it....but?
I worked at a pawn shop and 1 younger adult and another a adult just few years older, but not adolescents under 25... Younger one was probably 30 and the other 45ish and they brought in to sell a card printer, raised letters, holographic symbol capable, magnetic strip. Just like a Credit card uses AND and YMCA membership card, or university student cards, in Canada every person has a medical card with those features with more so haven't named and I bet a few that aren't intended for public knowledge, not like merchants check more than one or two security features that take zero time especially in a line up. And online checkouts have never asked anyone I know to show the physical card to the camera and then try to angle the card so that holographic picture that nobody notices because it's under a square inch and theres only one per bill so you gotta check every corner.
Anyone with basic understanding of how the price discovery process works to determine what something costs.....Supply and Demand, the more the demand with less supply (many buyers and not as many sellers) price goes up. Sooooo if the buyer could get and use multiple or higher limit scammed credit card and be anonymous they could drive the price up....Hello Bitcoin, or for this video creator Dogecoin or any crypto that is anonymous and they all are but as you spend more it wouldn't hurt to spend a few dollars (literally a few,) and do things to enhance privacy.
If 1000 scammers during a week bought $1000 in Bitcoin twice a weekand didn't sell it until an agreed price hit or amount of time.....the effect would be basically what Bitcoin has been doing for 12 years. And as the younger move in as the less tech savvy parents generation retire and consult, this will be wild. Many elderly won't try Bitcoin they can't adapt.....not just card scams, how many drug originating countries like Columbia for example have bosses with so much cash, they have to use forklifts to fill up another wearhouse with crates of USD currency most often $100 bills. They put USD $100 bills inside walls of homes and homes and other buildings specifically for the children globally to hide it from DEA seizure or similar govt agency.... they are choosing US currency because it's an effective store of value against inflation. They want borderless, secure, inflation resistant deflation in fact. Very private even without adding extra, and they can always add privacy features later, every few months they could mix coins with others or bounce Bitcoin around in different amounts (that's called ricochet and the general rule is to have it do 7 different ricochets or move to 7 address (each of the 7 address the money stops at belongs to you anyway) And you could do 50 or more and you could move it to the next address in seconds or some seconds a few address are hours and add one or two stops for a full day or even week. That ricochet is just one of many extra privacy tools Bitcoin has.... that one is chosen to do and how many directly from the app on your phone.
You could sell the Bitcoin into another coin that isn't garbage and will hold value long enough to rebuy the Bitcoin in different sized amounts so there's ismt a clear pattern of this morning Bitcoin worth 2 million was sold and then for 8 consecutive days every morning at exactly 8am on Coinbase Bitcoin is bought worth 500k UD and another each evening on Coinbase for $500k at 8pm.
Coinbase years ago has hinted that they wouldn't do any business with Bitcoin they could prove is "tainted" because it was used to finance terror or drugs or potentially anything the govt asked. And the choice was made dirty Bitcoin would be considered untainted by Coinbase after it moved 7 times. It didn't actually happen as I understand but it shut up regulator's a few years so Bitcoin could mature but that rule was so silly. Anyone could just send Bitcoin with one cell phone to different addresses even with the same wallet, the fee per send will need to be paid 7 times and sometimes i have been paying over a dollar occasionally I pay $5 just because it must be arriving in maximum 10 minutes or less. Same fee regardless of 1 million USD in Bitcoin or $5 bucks in Bitcoin the fee isn't connected to how much your sending. $1 is the same as $1k..every 10 mins a new block is added to the blockchain. The blocks do fill up, so a higher fee gives the miner more money to pick the higher fee. Although a block today still is not always ful and a holds so many more transactions than they did just 3 or 4 years ago. Exchanges like Coinbase until recently put each transaction in the block individually, and the exchanges do so many the exchanges over the years some immediately some took years updated their systems to batch many transactions together even batching 10 peoples transactions together let's my more people in a block (just batching the sender's information instead of repeating Coinbase over and over its wasteful data) now hundreds a few times daily are common and some batches are every 2 hours to get as many as possible to join but people love the 10 minutes max.....but free markets work. Eventually Bitcoin will have high enough fees that people will decide to share the fee between 400 others...I'd sometimes wait say 2 hours if the fee was $20 and became under $0.10 each. Everyone wins....and when the next generation drug cartel owners take over and they begin buying Bitcoin using forklifts to get the cash into the truck... image that demand
Or just the demand from business owners using Bitcoin to hide money.
It's all happening now. Yet it's the millenials who never knew a world without internet and are not afraid of Bitcoin the way our grandparents seemed baffled by a commodore 64....the same grandparents who think money is backed up with gold.....it's only backed by what we believe. Lose faith in some currency and it becomes hyperinflation as history has proven over and over because people steal, Bitcoins code has never been hacked, despite daily attacks on Bitcoin a new word has organically come up describing Bitcoin. Never before has something been called "antifragile"

It would be easier just to clone the gift card then leave the original one at the store. You would still have to tamper with the package unless you’re an insider though.

I thought of this one at least ten years ago… All you have to do is go boost a bunch of cards and then plant them back. Super easy.

Was anyone refunded from GC department ?? I just bought one to make an online purchase and didn't realize it had a barcode sticker until I opened at home, I tried activating online was not able, I called the phone number on the back they said it had no funds. They were really rude and hung up on me when I was asking to get it resolved.
This just happened to me. We got a Walmart visa gift card a year ago as wedding gift. Tried to use it yesterday and found there is no value left. I still have the original gift card though.. not sure what to do next. Called Walmart and got transferred 3-4 times to dispute but got disconnect each time…

Uff, thanks for the video. The way they scammed us was they scratched out some the 16-digit numbers so we couldn't purchase anything with the card or check the balance. The 1-800 number is worthless. Guess I should have not taken the easy route and instead put some thought into my kid's gifts. lol These cards get funded as soon as you purchase them, so if you don't use them right away the chances of beating them to the punch is slim. Bought mine at a Walgreens, so it's not just Walmart.

Vanilla gift card disputes are no help
I’ve gotten scammed with a vanilla gift card aswell… although since the amount was small I was able to get it back with PayPal (since the scammer sent it to there account with PayPal).. if it was a small amount maybe 50$ or under,, and you go the the vanilla website to see what the transaction was, you can call vanilla and tell them or the company that the scammer used to get the money (how they got mine through PayPal). Hope this helps 😊

@@mimi2O I just called Vanilla today after seeing your post. I saw a Pay Pal purchase of $25 the day after my son's grandma purchased him the card. They sad I have to fill out dispute form. I hope it gets resolved. She bought him 2 cards, and the second card shows never activated. She said for that one I need receipt, which I might have at home, but I'm on vacation. If no receipt, sounds like we're out of luck. Both cards had a photocopy glued to top of it. Did yours?
@@janitplanet My card did not have a photocopy glued. also, i didn't have to fill out a dispute form to get my money back (it was 25$ just as your card had), although it took 3 weeks for me to get the money back.

Yeah I just bought a Vanilla Visa card, $200 balance, waiting literally two days and now it’s empty, was put on hold for over 50 minutes with no response from the company, will try again tomorrow
they need to put more cameras where the employees are putting the cards in the package so they can get caught and fired by the company....its best just to get a reloadable gift card till visa finds a better way of proofing there package...sooo can this be done also w/xbox gift cards aswell...ya...i just went to one of my xbox gift cards...one of the bar code is scrathing right off while the other one isnt...so u can get a fake xbox gift card aswell...& 2b safe always keep receipt & package so when u call visa u can take a pic & send it to visa support to verify that the card & package w/receipt all match up...so nvr throw package away...until u verify that ur money has been loaded....but w/xbox gift cards its paper sealed...u cant glue that once its tampered w/the 1st time so i dont no how any1 can get around that to fake that card...& visa should go w/the way xbox package there cards...where u peel off the package to get to it...that is soooo much more tamper proof...

I live in Torrance CA the violation occurred in Orange County Calif. a sweep cleaning violation on a date I was home. Never been in Orange County for any reason. 🤔The number to call on the violation asks for the citation number, when I input that, the recording says they are unable to locate such a number. The ticket was mailed to what appears to be my name (but the last name used on the envelope was mis-spelled? Also the vehicle number such as the license and make and model of the car, has nothing to do with me, I don't own such a vehicle with that license number. Lastly, how odd that U would receive a parking violation through the MAIL? Wouldn't that go on the outside of the vehicle ? 🤔WOW! So, anyway, I sent in all the copies of the violation with why I'm "contesting" it. WOW, like the ole folks say, if it's not one thing, it's another on the way! Dang.....Thanks for listening. Appreciate any help U can give me or let me know of a good Atty if that's what I need to do. Cause, if they have my so call name and address on that vehicle, that means someone is using my name and address as registration on that vehicle, Right? Be Good, Stay Well and of course Peace.....❤️

Any lawyers on here? Can you sue the store that sold this to you? Because if it was tampered with before purchase and they sold it to you and charged money to the wrong card, pretty sure thats fraud on part of the store even though unintentional. Believe it would fall under criminal negligence for them not verifying their product was exactly as they marketed it for sale in their store.

You have one thing wrong is that you have the original card in hand they simply take pictures or keep in note the original card number and they scratch off the 3 digits cvv code and or the last 4 digits in the front
And they démagnétised the swipe so it make it unusable !!!😢

this just happened to me, lost $30 on $500 card.. what bothers me is that they can see my address and full name if they can can login with my card info to see the transactions. I was wondering how someone got my card info. The lengths these scummy people will go to, to avoid working.

Ty for this because this happened to me because someone gave me a Visa card then after the day I got it, the next day my $50 was gone but i when on the online website and saw a Asian company name that owns some online shops one of them was Weee and then I got the number of the Company and I demanded my money back and in 2 days they gave me my money back and then I spent it the same day so they wouldn’t take the money back.

After buying and redeeming the code for this person, they just blocked me and never gave me the product :( Can I be able to dispute even though I bought the card from a trusted website but gave the code to the scammer?
They're fricking useless at most places online. Go ahead, try to use one when you sign-up for services (VPN, Streaming services, etc...). They will not recognize your pre-paid card making them useless.

This scam is scary, I use my vanilla gift card every day and I get a new one ever month. I norm put on like 200-300 USD on it as thats the amount I want but I am always scared that ima get robbed and if I get robbed then what?
Like he said, just be very careful to inspect the gift card before purchasing it and rub your finger along the bar code numbers. If it feels like a flat piece of paper, get a different card. I personally get the cards at the back of card hanger. I figure the thieves are going to put their tampered card right at the front of the line so that it is the first to be purchased. I only use prepaid cards for sketchy website purchases where I do not want them to have my real credit card number. Whenever possible I use PayPal because that way they do not get my credit card number, either. And I use second sign in on PayPal so they would need by smartphone to sign in to my PayPal account.

Hello, I just recently had my visa gift card stolen, they emptied it of $450. It never left my desk. According to the transactions, it was used in store. I have the card, there is no tampering with the physical card. Is there any chance that the cashier who activated it stole the card? What do you think happened?
If the store was local to you, that might give a clue. Did you inspect the packaging to see if it was tampered?
I experienced exactly the same issues but couldn't get a solution. I was referred to this tech genuis and he successfully fixed mine💯☝️
They don't even have to take the physical card anymore. What they do is open the package, skim the card and put the card info onto another blank card with a mag strip (which can be ordered online). It's like going and making a copy of your key for your house. Then they put the card back into the package and throw it on the shelf and wait for someone to purchase it as they check the website and wait for the money. Then they go to a self-check out and use that card to clear your account. They literally don't even have to make the card look legit anymore as most places have self-check out and don't even check. This is what just happened to me.

I expect Bitcoin will go up crazy later this summer then alt coin will go up later this year. Dogecoin can go up as higher at 2 dollars or more. Beatthebush have you noticed the same pattern in 2017. The second alt season will be around later this year.
