what an honor and privilage to sing a classic with a living legend it's a damn shame we don't have good ol country music and truck songs no more nothin but garbage thanks red and junior and the many others who gave a damn about the music and real life situations there will never be another era as there era simply put the best era that ever was country music needs to go back to being country old school country music and today's garbage and get rid of it may they all rip they will always be remembered and never forgotten rip red and miss Loretta and all who cared about there music and the people in general thanks a million for the music and memories pure gold all the way we will you all when we get up there in heaven and pick and sing once again just like in the good ol days
I’m an old punk from 80/90s and started loving country music a while back. Junior brown is awesome. Punk and metal are fun when you’re young. But if you love music, as you age your tastes expand and you realize country music is good. My play list is like razor, Kenny rogers, buckethead, junior brown, the cure, hank Williams jr. if it has guitar, good Melodies and good vocals ,I’ll take it
Rip : Red Simpson (6 march 1934 - January 8 2016) .... Red Simpson This is actually a duet with Red Simpson and Junior Brown in 1995 . Red Simpson originally recorded it on his 1966 album "Roll, Truck, Roll"
+Johnnralph Red was a good friend of mine. He was on my radio show every month for the last 10 years. I loved that man, and we miss him so much here in Bakersfield.
My hands started sweating and I knew I was losing my nerve. 36 ton of undetonated steel over 18 tires that smoked and squealed. I can see it happening. The guitar playing in this song is amazing.
I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Red and the boys. We would go to Lloyd Readings house for dinner. Oscar Whittington was my chaperone 😅. Banny Bannister was one of the funniest guys in the group but thats because he was the youngest, well besides me. But I was just there for entertainment for the boys because their wives had seen and been through all their games and I was fresh and easy to fool. Well thats what they were thinking untill about 10 minutes into passing the grub around and Os did something that was so out of character but was looking at the boys waiting for their reaction. He was looking at me sideways while passing the biscuits to Banny who was dieing laughing but Red was looking at Os and then me. So it was me that they were all ganging up on. Well I came back with words that were totally unexpected but completely delivered clean but sharp. And boy let me tell you the laughter was all on Os. Nope he wasn't going to throw me a stink bomb and laugh to tell about it. From there on the table was even all way around. I had passed the test and gained some respect all around. I was the only female seated at the table surrounded with legends whom star wasnt shinning anymore. I really didn't know it at the time but I was eating dinner with the Bakersfield Sound.
So many rock and metal guitarists list Junior and other country players as influences and I hear and see it now. Jerry Reed has always been a big influence on me along with Roy Buchanon, Chett Atkins, Hank Garland and many other brilliant country players but this guy wow. Never heard of him until Dean Deleo of the Stone Temple Pilots mentioned him and I can def. hear Reed and Garland in Deleo.
I have always done pedal steel bends on guitar and implemented chickin pickin and other techniques but I see so much more I can absorb. George Jones is my favorite country singer. David Gilmour and Layne Staley for Rock. Those 3 I learned a lot from singing wise.
I was pullin' up a hill that's known as the Devil's Crest, Haulin' 36 ton on a run called the Nitro Express. There was nothin' but curves a runnin' from the top on down, And at the bottom of the grade sat a quiet little country town. Well, I was drivin' off the top when she jarred and the driveshaft broke, Started pumpin' up the brakes, saw 'em going in a big cloud of smoke.l To keep 'er upright ...I knew I had to do my best, Against a runaway bomb they call the Nitro Express. There was 36 ton of a detonated steel, Over 18 tires that smoked and squealed. I had to ride her down and I couldn't jump free, Or there'd be a big hole where that little town used to be. Well that old trailer leaned each time that I took another curve, My hands started sweatin' and I knew I was losin' my nerve. And I was cussin' each rock and every inch of the Devil's Crest, A fightin' with the wheel of a rig called the Nitro Express. I side-swipped a mountain so I'd slow her down by rubbin' her side, And when the sparks started flyin' man it looked like the 4th of July. I finally got her stopped ... but mister I'm a gonna confess, That's the last run I'm makin' in a rig called the Nitro Express. (Repeat - change last line to .Cause there'd be a big Hole where that little town used to be.
hahaha, thats cool man, im 17, ive been ridin with my dad on certain jobs for 17 years man, hahah, i love every second of it, my dads got 35 years of experience, im gonna be turnin 18 soon, i'll be a trucker too someday, i got the white line fever
I wonder how fast you could get an International gasoline V-220 up to if you disconnected the carburetor governor and ran it on 97% Nitromethane and 3% toluene (The "Surfers" AA/FD mix) . . . Say with an empty flatbed behind her.
Hey Quackie - I was gettin' 'warmed up' for the NFL playoffs today & I go to see what's on my Rec list to kill some time from the TV commercials and guess what!? A great Junior Brown/Red Simpson cover tune I've never heard before! Just diggin' it! Thanks again, Quackie!
Damn we just lost ol Red, I really regret we did not get a chance to see him live, I heard he played in the LA, San Diego area till he died, still time to catch JB
JB is so much more then a county artist. Chet Atkins said he is the best guitar player he ever saw! JB plays a mean surf guitar. I have never seen him live but I have heard he plays a bit chin surf medley.
1dislike? What's up with some people? I think this is the one and only person who has nothing better to do than dislike true talent. Same person everywhere? I wonder!
not sure why labeled "nitro express" starts with secret agent man and then into "venom wearing denim". The live shows are much better than the pre-recorded stuff. Have several posters I swiped from the doors/wall of venues he has played and a few autographs.
Fantastic. You can hear the words and the music.

Doesn’t get much better than that. Kinda like a case Old Milwaukee beer 🤫

The guitar playing in this song is amazing.

This was the song that kept me going when caring for my Mother. To keep her upright I knew I had to do my best. Found a lot of strength from this gem.

You're 24 now. You driving?
kmcwhq--- He's saying "undetonated steel". Meaning cases of Dynamite hauled in a trailer made of steel.
Over 18 tires that smoked and squealed.
Seriously good!
RED SIMPSON is all of the Truck Drivers GOD .

Tom Page which makes it even better
Great sound
What exactly is "Detonated Steel"? lol........GREAT classic trucking song
"Undetonated steel..." A trailer that hasn't been blown up yet.
13 people don't know what it's like to haul 36 tons of detonated steel.
That's "undetonated steel" refers to a trailer filled with dynamite. The trailer being made of steel.
nah, it's a hell of a lot harder to haul detonated steel; no wheels, chassis like a pretzel, ...
I do my brother.Still doing it 10 4
@@billj4910 god bless you bill..I'll stick with hauling bees..at least i just get stung..lol
as long as it's only the driver sweating it may as well be 36T sawdust. But not the point. Killer song love that steel guitar.
There was 36 ton of undetonated steel over 18 tires that smoked and squealed.
Bravo maestro
