One thing that I found really funny when I went to rewatch this franchise a year ago was when Strahm was prepping to interrogate Jill and he says to turn up the heat in the room to pressure her more. Then as the scenes play out, she keeps her jacket on throughout while he takes off his suit coat, rolls up his shirt sleeves, etc. Just a detail that I couldn't help but find humorous

Strahm feels like Tapp's successor. Someone who becomes obsessed with the Jigsaw case so much that he gets himself killed in the process. The symbolism is there, and its amazing.
As someone who works as a cleaner at the hospital morgue and autopsy room, i was super excited seeing them portray everything so well in the autopsy scene. Its something that a regular watcher wouldn't care about or notice if it was off, but i personally really appreciate the attention to detail!
I really liked the character of Agent Straham. He was an interesting foil to Jigsaw and co. And he felt like a real challenge as well. They got rid of him too soon imo.

This one always has me feeling bad for Eric Matthews. Saw 4 has been my guilty pleasure since I saw it as a teenager. It's a (nearly) entirely self contained story with a fun cop v cop story, that bleeds into 5 and 6. Personally, the red/orange hue of this film make it feel much different and more murky/grimey. The twist here is also really fun! Hoffman steps up as new Jigsaw and the events of 4 have taken place the same time as 3, which is so strange that it kinda works.
I did not need to be told Saw 4 is better than I think… I know it’s awesome. Rigg being the protagonist to me was a good choice because he’s far more sympathetic than any of the other protagonists. He’s relatable, he wants to do the right thing, he has lost people he cared about, and it’s his desire to do that right thing that blinds him in the long run. Strahm was the coolest new character that Saw 4 debuted, he was basically the FBI equivalent of Matthews, but much more badass and less morally ambiguous. His line of “Jill, I’m not buying it” is the one that gets me every time, especially Scott Patterson’s delivery. Good to hear someone else speaking highly of Strahm. As for what I love about Saw 4 the most, it’s two aspects… The first is how it explores the backstory of John Kramer, making it completely understandable as to how he ends up being the infamous villian that he is. It’s now even sadder seeing what happened to his child with Saw X revealing that had he not lost the child, he likely would have been a good father, which we got a hint of in Saw X through his interaction with Carlos. The second is the time twist. That one to me is one of best twists in the series, and like the “John was the body on the floor” twist, there are hints at it that you likely wouldn’t notice on the first viewing. Ever since Saw 4 pulled the “this happened at the same time as Saw 3” trick, I tend to keep that idea in the back of my mind for future entries. I also must shout out the ending. The time twist I mentioned, but I also love how Hoffman is revealed and immediately delivers his cold AF “Game Over” to Rigg and just walks away like nothing happened. The fact that the autopsy is then shown again (with new context) is a great bookend for the film. Hoffman’s reveal can seem like it’s out of nowhere, but actually like with John in Saw 1, there’s small hints at Hoffman actually being an apprentice. The way I view Saw 4 is it’s both the origin story for John Kramer and the film that connects everything together from before, while doing a good job to set up the next three films. What is incredible to me is that Saw 4 easily could have been a two hour film, yet the makers managed to compact all of its important details down to 1.5 hours. So yeah, I’ve never had issues with Saw 4. Loved it the first time and every time the ending plays out, I smile immensly. Side note: Rigg was actually introduced in Saw 2 (and was in Saw 3), he just wasn’t a major character until Saw 4. Last thing… Hoffman is my favorite character in the series, this film did a great job of setting him up for his run in the next three films, which does give it points in its favor. So yeah, I’m glad to see someone else actually understand Saw 4 and appreciate it instead of bashing it like most folks do.
You can probably convince me that Saw 7 is good at this rate. I’m hooked! Looking forward to the videos of Saw X and Saw VI though, they’re my favourite.

I'm really loving the analysis here. As a long time Saw enjoyer (started seeing them in theatres for Saw VI) you're nailing the deeper underpinnings that separate these from simple shock flicks. I wanted to mention that when Strahm gets into the sickroom and sees Jeff, if you look closely, Jeff has picked up Amanda's gun, presumably re-arming himself. Jeff was so confused/messed up in the head that he didn’t realized (until after killing John) Amanda had a gun with bullets. Jeff had a black gun (think a Beretta 92FS) Amanda had a silver gun (think a Smith & Wesson 5946) When Strahm enters, Jeff has already picked up Amanda’s gun near her body. Great video(s) btw
@@ripdalt you're welcome. Awesome videos too, still watching them and learned some things from you myself. Did some research on guns used in the film and that's what I came across. I always remember Jeff had a black gun and Amanda had a Silver gun. Apparently (and it's NOT confirmed) but the silver gun Amanda has is the same one Eric Matthews had/used in sAW II/the beginning of sAW III and he threw angrily in the bathroom (as it had no bullets) Assuming Amanda went back to the bathroom to get the gun before the start of sAW III as she's more healed from the beating Eric gave her after he escaped the bathroom (if I had to guess, having the gun as a trophy piece per say to have close by her as it's personal with her)
I've always felt this movie was the black sheep of the franchise before Spiral became the new favorite target ♡ It has flaws but I always oddly enjoyed it. Although it always bothers me when people think Riggs was tested because he saves people No. He was reckless in how he does so Also, FINALLY someone else that enjoys the glass transition!!! ♡♡
I finally decided to buy these movies on blu-ray because of your recaps, An awesome steel book with movies 1-8 included. I also agree I'll take Rigg over slow ass Jeff any day.

I will always headcannon that Rigg was saved by Gordon and has been secretly training to take down all these copycats. I don't want my boy to be truly dead
I heard in commentary segments that the transitions in this film were quite expensive to produce, and you can tell. Such a good move - such an amazing series!
Ahh! I remember being so confused by Strahm & Hoffman because I thought they looked so similar & were the same actor so I thought it was all non linear till the end. It was such a headfuck at first back in 07!
I wasn't aware anyone hated Strahm, I always thought he was pretty unanimously loved (definitely is on twitter and reddit lolol). Wish he survived to VI like was initially intended. Awesome video series, subscribed 🔥🔥
Saw 4 has always been the one I got the least, no idea why but it just didn't stick, this video actually helped clear everything up and was a really good look into it
My biggest question is with Art when we see him later his cheek is stitched up so did he have that device on his back and then got to a doctor or did he get stitched up then got kidnapped again by jigsaw or after he ripped his mouth open did Gordon drug him again give the stitches and then the device
As a huge fan of the series this is the one I always go back to and watch. Idk what it is about it but it’s such a good movie and did something different. After this one though def had a downfall besides a few standouts imo
I have a good time watching this and not gonna lie, but I feel like this is one of the games that I enjoy the most, along side with Saw 1 of when it comes to the bathroom trap
It is my least favourite of the 10, I have very strong opinions about it for reasons I'm not exactly sure why lol? One of the few things I like about this movie though is the flashbacks and learning more about John and Jill, it's heartbreaking what happened to them and you really feel and can see a bit how and why John became a killer (sorry "not killer" I say in HEAVY quotations lol) anyways great video!!! :) 10.5/10

Apparently (and it's NOT confirmed) but the silver gun Amanda has is the same one Eric Matthews had/used in sAW II/the beginning of sAW III and he threw angrily in the bathroom (as it had no bullets) Assuming Amanda went back to the bathroom to get the gun before the start of sAW III as she's more healed from the beating Eric gave her after he escaped the bathroom (if I had to guess, having the gun as a trophy piece per say to have close by her as it's personal with her)
How does this not have more "likes"!?!??
it's got WAY more than i thought it might. plus everyone's been super nice in the comments :,)
I've always felt this movie was the black sheep of the franchise before Spiral became the new favorite target ♡
It has flaws but I always oddly enjoyed it. Although it always bothers me when people think Riggs was tested because he saves people
No. He was reckless in how he does so
Also, FINALLY someone else that enjoys the glass transition!!! ♡♡
that's fair for rigg, he puts saving people ahead of everyone else, so in a way selfishness gets him tested
@@ripdalt it's not the best reason but it makes sense within the movie at least
I finally decided to buy these movies on blu-ray because of your recaps, An awesome steel book with movies 1-8 included. I also agree I'll take Rigg over slow ass Jeff any day.
hell yeah i love to hear that :) a nice addition to the collection! rigg supremacy :)
You mean Slow Ass Motherf#cking Jeff right?
When i saw this opening night i was just dying over having Jigsaw laying there dead and them saying ITS NOT OVER! LOL LOVE IT! also Hoffman is the best!!!!!!!!!
it's almost like they knew killing john handicapped the franchise right there. but hoffman still rocks!
I find it funny how i subscribed for Scooby Doo content but now get saw content. And honestly? As much as i liked the Scooby stuff, i think your saw breakdowns are much better.
at first i thought i made a mistake doing the saw videos right after the scooby ones, but the support has been amazing for both :)
@@ripdalt I'm glad to hear that for you! I can tell there's a lot of passion in these videos so I'm glad others support this as well!
Saw IV and Saw II will always be my favorites
both of them are SO good
It's crazy to know that mirror transition scene was actually practical, I always thought they did it in front of a green screen
they really popped off with the effects here
I will always headcannon that Rigg was saved by Gordon and has been secretly training to take down all these copycats. I don't want my boy to be truly dead
we can dream! rigg truthers know the way
I heard in commentary segments that the transitions in this film were quite expensive to produce, and you can tell. Such a good move - such an amazing series!
easily the highlight of this film and honestly one of the best things in the series
i love saw 4, im just mad that riggs and kerry died, damn it riggs, couldnt you have just waited one more damn minute 💀
LITERALLY one more second, i was so upset
@@ripdalt bro istg like why, man you should of just slept instead of dealinng with allat
Ahh! I remember being so confused by Strahm & Hoffman because I thought they looked so similar & were the same actor so I thought it was all non linear till the end. It was such a headfuck at first back in 07!
i see that a lot! and it totally makes sense, especially in this one
4:57 I love Dalt he is so silly 😭
i looove lil robot guy :)
Can’t wait for the Saw V review
coming on friday! :)
@@ripdalt yay
Yeah saw does a really good job in terms in making us feel sorry for the murderous Kramer and even actually making him likable
it's genuinely so intriguing to piece together the kramer lore, see what led to his ways. it's really well done, all things considered
FINALLY! some one else understands me, this has been my fav since I first got into the films!!!
i'm seeing quite a few people say that, which is awesome. i hardly ever heard anyone say that before
I wasn't aware anyone hated Strahm, I always thought he was pretty unanimously loved (definitely is on twitter and reddit lolol). Wish he survived to VI like was initially intended. Awesome video series, subscribed 🔥🔥
oh i bet they have a field day with him on reddit lmao
I watched saw 4 for the first time on an old tv with a built in dvd player in my basement when I was a kid. Good times
hey, i've got one of those too! physical media >>>
How many saws would 4 saws saws? Great video and refreshing take
i think that saw 4 could saw four saws for saw. and thank you! :)
Happy to see someone appreciate saw 4! This is one of my favorites and I don’t know why people don’t like it.
i think it just gets compared to the first three so much, unfairly so
Alright, Hoffinator time!
absolute peak cinema
Found this channel yesterday im very happy about this vid dropping!
glad to have you back today :)
Saw 4 has always been the one I got the least, no idea why but it just didn't stick, this video actually helped clear everything up and was a really good look into it
yeah it's very much a set up for the next trilogy, which helps and hinders it, but i'm glad you found this video helpful :)
I appreciate the better background music this time. (Im not tryina be a snob or nothin I just appreciate it)
every vid will get better as i get better :)
I genuinely used to not like this one, but this video might've shed enough light on it that I'll give it a rewatch! Keep it up!!! 💯💯💯
i'd 100% recommend the rewatch to see if your mind has changed. video essays are nice and all, but nothing beats the movie experience :)
Rigg is very cool actually I like him
me too, he's one of my favorites in the series :)
Saw 4 is amazing, it’s my second favorite movie in the franchise
oooh interesting, that's a lot higher than i've seen most people put it, that's cool!
@@ripdalt I’ve only seen 1-5 and here my ranking from good to amazing
Saw 2
Saw 4
Saw 5
Saw 1
Saw 3
two of the best scene transitions ive ever seen make it a good film lol
see, you get it! lmao
Aye bro really likes these movies or smth
eh, they're okay i guess (i'm obsessed)
If there's a Resident Evil 4 movie Perez would be the perfect Hunnigan.
omg that's PERFECT
I love these sm and you’re totally right Saw 4 is so underrated
thank youuuu :) i was surprised how much i enjoyed it this watch through
I appreciate this video as Saw 4 has always been my favorite
thank you, i appreciate the comment :)
4 is my favorite.
oooh nice, i don't see a lot of people have 4 as their #1!
My biggest question is with Art when we see him later his cheek is stitched up so did he have that device on his back and then got to a doctor or did he get stitched up then got kidnapped again by jigsaw or after he ripped his mouth open did Gordon drug him again give the stitches and then the device
i think technically saw 7 explains it (kinda)
Love this series you’re doing! Keep it up 👍
thank you! :)
As a huge fan of the series this is the one I always go back to and watch. Idk what it is about it but it’s such a good movie and did something different. After this one though def had a downfall besides a few standouts imo
yeah aside from 6, the rest definitely take a step down after 4
Been binging these videos since yesterday and I’ve never seen the movies
lmao i love that. i'd still recommend watching the movies at some point! you might have a different opinion of them :) thank you for watching though!
@@ripdalt came across your channel and I like your videos, great job. Yes, I’m planning a marathon watch.
well technically Strahm had it right haha she was in on the game even in saw 6 she knew about them and might have even been active in them.
strahm = right answer, wrong equation
@@ripdalt Right on, Strahm was incredibly smart and extremely perceptive but was too wilful and impatient in the end, sadly.
Upvote for saying hanged instead of hung
gotta be grammatically correct to be taken somewhat seriously :)
Couldnt tell the detectives apart, gave up on the series. :P
y'know, fair. they do look similar in this one
LMAOOOO shoutout the jude bellingol pop up 🇬🇧
hey juuuuude, that's the future scorer of a brace in the ucl final
I have a good time watching this and not gonna lie, but I feel like this is one of the games that I enjoy the most, along side with Saw 1 of when it comes to the bathroom trap
i love rigg's game! kind of.. it doesn't make sense, but it's really fun to watch
this one does take quite a step down, but i did find it more entertaining this watch through for the analysis
@@ripdalt I might also like it more on later re-watches, especially now that I have the box set so I can watch all of them as much as I want, I plan on kidnapping a few of my friends and forcing them to watch the 10 saw movie marathon lol
It was next on my rewatch list anyway
the perfect time to rewatch it then! :)
@@ripdalt i did before i watched the vid lmaooo
13:39 - its makes me laugh
hehehe
You got an instant sub for this.
i'm glad you liked it! welcome :)
Hey dalt can't wait for the next vid
i'm gonna keep em comin :)
I’ve always really liked saw 4
it's super underrated, i always have a great time with it though :)
YESSSS YESSS YESSS SAW 4 IS THE BEST YESSS
me when i see rigg on screen:
omg dalt upload!!!!!!
omg hiiii :) glad to see you back
AHHHH YES!!!!
SAW 4 RAHHHHHH
If Saw IV is so good then why didn't they make a Saw IV II
they tried to but hollywood shut them down, it would've been too good
I always put this as one of the best saws, I hate saw 3 tho
i used to not like 3 either, but this analysis series really changed my mind
Love the content
thank you! :)
Call me a groupie, I like them all films
that's the kinda spirit we like here! any saw film is a good one
Saw IV is great because Mark Hoffman is bound with a dog collar and his shirt torn open the entire movie
you're SO RIGHT for that. what a hunk
Tbh i enjoyed saw 4 more than 3
i've seen that quite a bit actually, a lot of people get super bored by 3 (probably cuz it's SO long and slow compared to the others)
@@ripdalt which I agree
I enjoy your shit. Its good shit
thank you! :)
Why did you skip Saw 3?
i didn't, it's up on the channel! :)

“Live or die make your choice.”
“Game over.”
“My name is very f#%}]@ confused!!.”
There’s lots but yeah..
you're so valid for eleanor and schenk, they're the only reason i'll go back to those movies. there's so many iconic lines that i find more and more that i love each watch through
