Pete Davidson has recently become the subject of an internet wide “hot or not” debate, thanks to his newfound status as a Hollywood heartthrob. But what, really, is so surprising to people about his appeal? Pete has been linked to the likes of Ariana Grande, Margaret Qualley, Kaia Gerber, Phoebe Dynevor, and now Kim Kardashian. Yet the mass amounts of clickbait and general shock and confusion around Pete’s love life exposes that today’s culture may not be as progressive as we think.

I think the hotness gap is more of a media thing than a real life thing. Men in movies, television, and whatnot can look any which way, but his female partner has to hit a certain level of attractiveness. In real life, falling in love with someone makes them hotter and hotter the more you see things you adore in them. Society's opinion of looks doesn't matter if they rock your world.

@@kalystaortiz3701 absolutely. This kind of trope affects everyone, not just women. Women aren't judged harshly for being with someone considered less attractive then themselves. Whereas, men can't seem to be allowed to fall for a women that is less attractive. Again, I think it's more of a Hollywood thing than a real life thing, and attractive is always subjective. It can seeps into our brains though, and we may not realize it.

Straight men agree there is a hotness gap between Jay Z and Beyonce but no one questions it. Conversely, Jenny Slate was criticized for dating Chris Evans mostly by women who deemed her "not hot enough"; though men didn't seem to care. The "hotness gap" is only questioned if both partners do not have equal levels of power, money, and fame.
The only reason Pete Davidson's attractiveness comes into question is that the media doesn't deem his status "worthy enough" to date the women he dates.

(Thank you complete stranger in the street, I was worried no one would call me ugly today) People at large can't seem to figure out why we're together. Other women have openly hit on him in my presence because I'm seen as such a non factor. I never thought of him as ugly.
He just looks like a normal dude, but when you're around celebrities who get their outfits, face and hair fixed by professionals, OFC you'll look ugly in comparison. If the person you're dating is extra good looking, that makes it worse.

honestly Pete Davidson is mostly "not considered attractive" through a very conservative male gaze. He's not pumping with muscles, he's very liberal, has no issues pointing out flaws and weaknesses in himself (when the conservative male gaze acknowledges weaknesses, it means that they admit that they exist. So as long as they're in denial about them, they're not there), has a good sympathetic vibe about him, and overall confident charisma depsite all of his self-loathing jokes. He's the kind of guy who really doesn't give a fuck about what people think of him, and still somehow ends up being on the good side. Most "idgaf about anyone"-people end up inadvertedly supporting people in power. I completely agree with the conclusion of this video: Pete Davidson talks to women like people, not achievements. And hint for men, women pick that stuff up quite quickly.
Pete Davidson is cute, his personality makes him hot af. Like rail me in an alley-hot. Most people are upset about it because they feel only the alpha male should get "the girl", and even if this movement actually helps them, they're hellbent on keeping a system that is mostly hurting themselves. It's because at this point these people have given way and thrown themselves at the feet of people they consider alpha, sacrificed countless amount of hours in the gym or doing this or that to even become a sliver of the sculpted gods. So it's just about being pot-committed at this point. Admitting this would mean that all of this time they wasted and all the times they let "an alpha" walk over them was for nothing.

Him dressing the way he does, his tattoos, his personality, those sorts of things make him who he is and that makes him a yes to some and a no to others. His features are crowded close together in the middle of his face. His nose hangs down close to his lips. There is very little tissue framing his eyes so the eyeballs define the shape. Whether goofy lookingness is a turn off or turn on depends on the person.

My crush for Pete Davidson has been running deep since 2017. I have never hidden the fact that I am wildly attracted to him through all his phases and always wish the best for him and his mental health.
His personality and overall self-awareness is incredibly endearing. The way he would totally blow up on social media and can capitalize on it, but chooses not to have one to take care of his sanity is also indicative of his character. He’s humble too, and though looks like a douchebag at times, it actually a really sweet and charismatic person who would get along with everyone good-natured. He also doesn’t seem pretentious and seems to think he’s less famous than he actually is.
Anyway, Pete, for all of his flaws, is human and a good one at that. And in my opinion at least, very physically attractive too, perhaps amplified by his honesty. That’s all for my TEDxTalk.

As someone who has had the "Hotness Gap" in several relationships and crushes. People wonder why someone that looks like me would go with a so so guy. I get consistently told I could do better, or that they just don't get why I like the guy. I feel judged and that I should date a better looking man. But in reality I have come to learn I like the quirky guy with nerdy interests. It may not seem like it but I am that way and want someone I can talk to rather then just sit in silence with. So if anyone can take anything away from this, stop telling your friends they are to hot for their boyfriend or girlfriend when they may be the best person in the room. Tell them that their partner is out of their league when the guy isn't a fantastic person or takes more then than give.

The simple fact that so many people care about his level of attractiveness is worrying. Maybe these women like him because he's not cocky or does not try to compensate for his insecurities with toxic masculinity, which must be very hard to find in the world of celebrities. Wether he is hot or not is a non issue, and says a lot about how people see men AND attractive women.

  • @misswhiskeykittie
    @misswhiskeykittie 2 роки тому +5

Yeah but Pete IS HOT. I understand that his type of hotness isn't exactly mainstream compared to the Chris Hemsworths of the world, but he totally is hot. He has a grunge, punk thing going on that a lot of women find attractive. Plus he's very successful. And funny. One of the things that I've always liked about him, is that he always seems very respective about the women he's dating or dated in the past. He never talks about them in a crude or crass way - whenever he jokes about them, the joke is always about HIM. He makes himself the but of the joke instead of his partner. He could SO EASILY have trashed Adriana Grande after they broke up, but he never has. Another thing that comes across is that he doesn't act like an alpha male - he can look quite androgynous at times which is very refreshing. He doesn't seem like he needs to be the most successful or dominant guy in the relationship. He always seems very sweet and down to earth, so I'm guessing that plays a huge part in why so many beautiful women want to date him.

I do feel that Pete Davidson is attractive in an unconventional way, and that in itself is very appealing to women who dislike traditional, stereotypically backwards men with little to offer in the way of emotional support. He is very funny, emotional vulnerable, and won't try to mansplain anything to a woman. That is because this guy is very self-aware he is a mess and that he is lucky to be dating the amazing women he has dated in his romantic past. It isn't hard to see why women are attracted to him physically and emotionally, especially since what men think women find attractive in men (strong physique, hyper masculinity, unemotional front) is actually more of a turn off for many women considering those same traits are the reason they dislike or are unattracted to conventionally attractive men. He specifically attracts "glamourous women" because these same women have already experienced relationships with hyper-masculine, conventionally attractive men and understand that having a mutually beneficial relationship relies on way more than just mutual physical attraction.

Going with the argument on celebrities only dating celebrities is “too much”, it makes sense because they will not get as starstruck by each other being celebrities and understand the (lack of a better term) “hardships” at being a celebrity. They can relate with each other.
I also like seeing couples that started with the partner not knowing their celebrity status like Kevin Jonas and his wife.
I find hope in celebrity couples that stay together like Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, etc. they show that relationships can work out.
But I look for happy and committed couples in my family as hope to.
It all depends on the individuals and couple.

Right?! His personality is attractive for sure but discounting that, he is already very physically attractive. He’s tall, he’s got a symmetrical face and strong jawline, he’s slim and a little toned, and he’s got a clear aesthetic with his tattoos and hair and such. (Aside from that last one which is more about personal taste) all of those things are pretty universally considered good looking.
It really surprised me when I started noticing media pinning him as average or even ugly, what?!? The main thing I hear him get shit for is being skinny but he’s not skinny in a “I don’t take care of my body” way. He’s just slim. He still has muscle definition he’s just not very muscular or buff. Many guys think being ripped is the peak of attractiveness when a lot of women really don’t care about that.
I wish media wasn’t so focused on looks but here I am analyzing the looks of some guy I don’t know. I guess maybe that’s the point 😬

I think men find such a hard time understanding why Pete might attract objectively gorgeous women like Ariana and Kim because men themselves care about appearance first and personality second, which is why we don’t usually see a “hotness gap” where the man is more conventionally attractive. I don’t get why it’s so hard to comprehend that these women value personality over looks (which is very subjective anyway).

Where I've noticed way more goodlooking guys dating normal-looking girls than the other way around. It's almost as if both hot and normal women and men are A) actually capable of valuing attributes in their partner outside looks and/or B) just find these "unconventional" looks genuinely attractive and "woke" Hollywood and the media are just full of crap.

The self-image and the projection is not what people want to see. I understand it sounds like a sweeping generalisation, but it’s mostly true.
