      I have watched a few of your videos and you keep mentioning that songs has to be copyrighted in order to be protected from theft. I guess this is a US issue, as based on what I know from recording music for 30 years and information I can find that is not the case in Europe (I'm Norwegian). What I could find states "copyright protection in the European Union (EU/EEA) is automatic and doesn't require registration for songs or other original works. Copyright protection begins when a work is created and lasts for 70 years after the author's death. For works with multiple authors, protection lasts until 70 years after the death of the last surviving author." Also I found that "Outside of the EU, in any country which signed the Berne Convention, the duration of copyright protection can vary but it lasts until at least 50 years after the author's death." It was also stated somewhere that it is advisable to get your music registered to prove ownership, which can be done through collecting societies like TONO (Norway), GEMA (Germany), Sacem (France) or Ascap (US). Maybe in US you would also have to register it with a copyright office. Just wanted you to perhaps bring this up in a future video as I guess it's important aspects.

    Do what I did and spend a ton on music school so you can then record yourself on various things and create your own unique samples. I have amazing samples but they are all of me so I own them 100%.

      That's awesome. I wish I had time to do more sound design. You should totally get into making your own sample packs. What are you using to make your own sounds are you just using sense and creating patches or are you making organic stuff too?

      @ThatOrko I play lots of acoustic instruments like T-bone, sax, flutes, strings but all one shots

    What's your opinion on microsampling aka sampling snippets of other songs? For example, the album 'Cross' from Justice contains a lot of samples from other artists. Some samples were not reconignized yet until this day.

    I recently recorded a classic song(Can't Help Falling In Love) that was public domain using as close to the original as I could but changing the lyrics leaving just enough to give a tribute to the original. Now that it's done I found out someone won the copyright. How would I approach getting permission to release it without getting sued?

    Man, I was considering starting to stream my production sessions and live jams cause people have been asking, but after watching this knowing how terrible the law is and that really anyone can steal your work and there's nothing you can do has me totally put off :'(

    Can you please make a Suno AI terms & service video? It would be nice to get a lawyer's perspective on it.

    So what about the copyright office saying you own it once it's created?

    Or you didn't have the money to copyright it years ago.

    If you register an album of several tracks with the government does the copyright cover all the songs?

    • @TopMusicAttorney
      @TopMusicAttorney  4 місяці тому +1

      Yep, when you register an album with the government, the copyright covers all the songs on that album. Each track is protected as part of the overall album registration. It's like a one-stop-shop for copyright protection for all the songs you've included. Just make sure all the contributors and authors are properly credited and accounted for, if that's what your agreement is. Hope that helps

      One thing to remember, if you grant a license or use of that copyright, specify it only covers one song. Otherwise you’d be granting use of ALL of your songs contained in that copyright number.

    If u want to use something from music that could be considered a sample u would have to change the whole song by 30% of its original form. This could be solved very easily by speeding pitch to 1.5x speed then releasing ur versions sped up a little bit. This brings royalties up.
