Ha, I used to be in a band called "Cunning Stunt"1968. I left to drive interstate 8V92 cabover, out of White Wings, Wetherill Park. 2 a week to Brizzy.
The first boat I ever went to sea on when I was 7 had a 8v71 Jimmy in her and I have been hooked on that 2 stroke sound ever since. I'm 38 now and own an old trawler with a 671 in it and I love the sound she makes when she fires up at 4 in the morning. They sound good and reliable. The other thing people over look with them as well is that they don't vibrate as much as a 4 stroke. They run real smooth. Wish there was more of them still on the road here in Australia.
Good on ya mate. Love the 8V71. I'm very close to getting three trucks with Detroit power. 2 White 9000s. 1 has a 6-71 RTO 9513 chassis has been extended by an engineer. 2nd another White 9000 with 8V71T and a KW SAR with same engine 350hp and sleeper bunk. Actually the first White and the KW would suit suit me fine. There's a COE Atkinson for sale as well for $6000.
T j Exactly. I remember MARTAs 1981 Neoplan N416s once sounded like this when all fifty of them use to roar like titans and tigers throughout the cities and neighborhoods of Atlanta and DeKalb County. I miss hearing the 8V71 engine with a passion
God I love the sound of a Detroit Diesel 2 stroke engine. I have met a few people that hate on them for leaking, being too loud and, some have even said under powered, but I for one would love to own a Detroit Diesel engined, well, anything.
They really do sound unbelievable at certain RPMS with blower at night time and fully loaded I'm from Australia lived near the highway when I was a kid
A good friend of mine in New Zealand had a mid 50s International R-200 with a Detroit 8V-71. That thing could sing. The older trucks looked better & they sounded like trucks. As tough as the men who drove them.
8V71 (not straight 8). And an over-drive BushRanger. Always have and still do love Jimmies. Best engines ever. Oh, and I love Yammie 2-strokes also. Yep, I drove/rode both. Now retired.
That's a sweet sound and nice shifting. I shift with my right hand (course I'm on the wrong side of the road lol) don't know if I could hit em as smooth leftie
@@deborahchesser7375 🇺🇸 I love the old fire trucks, and they don’t have to be that old. It’s just that most of them, no matter the age, really don’t have that many miles on them. That’s a good thing. And fire trucks usually are pretty well taken care of. That probably wasn’t a bad price either. 🧐🤩
Nice video and White truck. Bob Reimer mentioned the White trucks in the song hr wrote. He drove all the big rigs. His song THE B MODEL MACK SONG by THE COUNTRY TIGERS CANADA. He loved his Mack trucks. Please check it out and drive safe
Steven Marciowski. In Australia buddy. Two Stroke Detroit engines were very popular here from the mid 1960s in road going semi trucks until the Series 60 took over. The R-190 International came with a 6 cyl petrol engine what you guys call ''gasoline'' in America I presume well many 4-71s replaced them. A real snug fit. 4-53s were even used going from Sydney to Melbourne overnight in smaller single drive semis and were really good on fuel.
I would say it is either a Eaton road ranger RTO 915 15 SPEED or a 10 speed if you watch the shift he goes from third back with a hook into fourth then forward into fifth that is an overdrive transmission Later boxes like a 13 speed was overdrive in the auxiliary section.
1700lbs. Of Torque these older Diesel engines are harder to Destroy unlike the 4 stroke Diesel engines and today's modern Diesel engines are weak and easily to be Destroyed and Replace and costs more money than the older Diesel engines like a Two Stroke or Two Cycle or just a Natural Aspirated Diesel engines
Calvin Crews... 8V71 Detroits did NOT develop anywhere close to 1,700 ft lbs of torque. An 8V71 with either N65 or 7E65 (Federal) injectors (318hp) at 2100 would produce 815 - 820 ft lbs of torque (at about 1400 rpm), depending on elevation, humidity, etc, etc. Even an 8V71T with N75 injectors at 2100 and 350 hp would yield about 960 - 970 ft lbs of torque. In order for an 8V71 to produce about 1700 ft lbs of torque, as you say.... it would have to be making about 680 hp at 2000 - 2100 rpm.
They do have torque only at higher RPMs like 1700 and not 1200 like a 4 stroke turbo diesel. These dickheads lose all their road speed and downshift to late.
The sound of Aussie trucking when it was fun, miss those trucks and the true drivers that piloted them.
Ahh the old White truck wow. Memories. Awesome video. 100 percent. Well done.
Damn I love the sound the power of that motor. A diesel working hard but sounding sweet !!!

LOVE that DETROIT sound! ALL TRUCKS should sound like that!! 🔥👍🏾🥰🤟🏾😆😈
The glittery translucent shift knob brings back memories. Would like to find those again!
Nothing sounds better than that 871 detroit
TJ best sounding 8V71 even when they idle which they don't like for long made to work hard

I heard TWO 12v-92s in a big boat yesterday. Amazing stereo sound.
Nothing quite like the growl of a 2 stroke Detroit
God I love the sound of a Detroit Diesel 2 stroke engine. I have met a few people that hate on them for leaking, being too loud and, some have even said under powered, but I for one would love to own a Detroit Diesel engined, well, anything.
How about a Detroit powered scooter?
They really do sound unbelievable at certain RPMS with blower at night time and fully loaded I'm from Australia lived near the highway when I was a kid
@@andrewking9761 nothing sounds better running through all those gears it seemed like they’d never run out
these trucks sound bloody nice aye

I bet it used to be a fair old climb iver the razorback back in the day fully loaded
That's a sweet sound and nice shifting. I shift with my right hand (course I'm on the wrong side of the road lol) don't know if I could hit em as smooth leftie
Now thats what you call being 'at one' with it...awesome shifting brother...Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy..!
Really great sound. Must be a 350hp because what it sounds like is she's got a turbo whine. Great entertainment
cheers from Canada
Dynamo Joe..... The "whine" you're hearing is Not from a turbo, it IS from the roots blower, but I can certainly understand why you might think that.
Maximum overdrive goblin truck sound
sound: like an angels chorus
looks: tough
ride comfort: not the best but could be worse
aka i love this truck
My gramps had a single Axel 4000. Said he once hauled 30 tones of logs with it. At 35mph.
Brings back memories! I cut my teeth in one of these no power steering or A/C
I thought they hsd standard power steering
Reminds me of the old Road boss I drove in Manji with an 8 71, 10sp, was called No thunder No wonder.
This is fkn brilliant
such a sweet sounding truck
what's he do with the radio......listens to it while he eats his lunch?Great vid!
''Radio ha who needs a radio?'' Dumb and Dumber
You don't need a radio with the 8V71
Cant use a radio with an 8v Detroit Leaker
😂
Sweet ride! The Ohio Porters. 🤩
I saw a fire truck in Courthouse that had an 8V92TA 37k mi, $4k, boy did I miss out.

GOOOD TO SEE YOU ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD LOL
Because of those Detroits I'm asking people WHAT?
15 speed overdrive
Like something outta Mad Max

Must be a hot load, somebody short timed him
Yes they sound nice.
Nice sound 👍👍🇺🇸🇦🇺
Never seen a White 4000 with a right hand drive.

Everybody talks about an 8v71 Detroit diesel but have you ever heard or driven a Cummings v903 with the engine pulling the stripsq of of
no torque

You have to work tbem in their rev range..igs all relative .This was king of the road in 70s.Now power has doubled and torque tripled .And at low revs
