Looks like the fix I need! Bought a used bike and I'm spending a LOT of time fixing previous owners work. Like when the left tail pipe fell off crossing a railroad track (fun fun)
I'm SO glad I tripped across this video. I have a VT 600, and I didn't realize the gaskets were different sizes! I had 2 of the same size, so I just ordered the one I'm missing. Now I have to wait until next weekend to replace the pipes, when I had planned to do it tomorrow(took the day off). Oh well...
Hey TJ, just ordered jet kit and velocity stacks for my dual carb. Will be ordering a set of these as soon as i can. Chrome with dump out tips. Cheers for your work!
Brass nuts are best for exhaust, general aviation aircraft have been using them for years. Stainless has a tendency of galling the threads and can easily ruin a stud. The brass exhaust nuts are double thick and won't cause stud problems when removing them.
So that's where those gaskets I ordered go. Awesome...ca-do. Somebody removed the bolts at the front long pipe and put some smaller diameter weird looking screws in their place. Maybe, to mess with both my bike's head and mine. It looks like they may have attempted theft or something else. Got to put the bike elsewhere or put a full metal jacket in it, lol. Great vid.
@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS okay im going to for sure just curious as to what would happen lol im buying your tune kit for open exhaust and air. And im just going to cut my exhaust until I can afford the pipes 🤣
Good morning. I’m new to motorcycles and working on my 1999 shadow 1100. I just installed these same pipes and I got smoke coming out of the forward pipe where the pipe connects to the motor. Is that a problem or normal? Is it not connected all the way???
So let's say I tighten everything down, and ultimately do want to make minor positioning adjustments (again). Can I loosen the bolts a tiny bit and do that, or do I need brand new gaskets, again?
Went back and forth on the bolts on the front bolt..... went a little to ham and the stud broke off a piece of the cylinder wall... any tips on repair? Looks like cast alluminum. I know JB weld is like a bad word and Im not sure it would work there but cant go wrong trying if i have replace the cylinder anyways
QUESTION....If I already have Cobra pipes on my 750.....Do I still have to tune the carbs if I get your Back-drafts? They are both aftermarket pipes and the carbs should have been tuned when the Cobras went on ...Right???
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS absolutely don't want to roll like that. All I'm saying is the Cobra pipes are aftermarket and no baffles or anything. So it's unrestricted airflow and the bike runs phenomenally with them with no sputter or backfire what my question was, if they did tune the carbs to the cobras would they have to be retuned for yours is the Cobra's more restrictive than yours and yours needs to be retuned no matter what? The less work the better bro is all I'm getting at and less of a chance for me to fuk anything up 🤣🤣
So if I put these pipes on and don’t tune it, and it’s running fine is that okay? Called a few shops and it’s a pretty penny just to tune my bike, and one guy said if it runs fine just leave it be
When you put the copper gaskets in, do they go in any way or do you orient them a specific way? I ask because one side of the gasket has a ridge on it and the other is smooth.
Where do the aluminum spacers that came with my upsweeps for the 600 go? On the studs between the flange and cylinder or between the flange and mounting nuts?
I was wondering this same thing and for some reason the comment with the answer isn't showing. I wasn't able to get the nuts to thread with the spacers on the studs outside of the flange and was a bit confused because I couldn't tighten them down all the way to get the flange all the way flush to the motor.
@@shenanigans721 they go between the nut and the flange. His comment isn’t showing for me either anymore. I’m guessing you had some that were too large that slipped through quality control
@@WFO.Ian.30 Thanks for the reply man. Did your flanges sit flush once you tightened down the nuts? Mine did not and I was bouncing back and forth on each side while tightening. Felt like I was going to damage something if I went any tighter.
In your experience changing exhaust, how stubborn are the stock flange nuts to remove? I’ve heard of guys breaking the studs or head but it sounds more likely on install from cover tightening. Sadly I won’t be upgrading my exhaust but I do need to replace the gaskets very soon.
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS I am pretty sure mine were too loose from age or who knows whar, they darn near fell off on removal. The rear cylinder had the most evidence of leakage. The new gaskets are now in and torqued to spec with a torque wrench, the flanges even look closer to head and even so I think we are in business!
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS thank you for the advice. Just bought a 2012 Honda Shadow RS 750. It's got cobras on it, and judging by the Black in the pipe oh, looks like it's running rich. What fuel controller do you recommend?
did not see you use copper ring gaskets. if you did not use them are you running the risk of a leak or is that compensated by the design of your pipes?
TJBRUTALCUSTOMS dammit! Lol guess I will have to make one from scratch. How about the velocity stacks? Are you aware of them working on the same model?

I have an 05 Spirit VT1100 with Cobra drag pipes. I read through the torque specs in the manual, it doesn't show anything for the exhaust. Cobra doesn't give any specs either. But I'm assuming it can't be anything more than 17Nm
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS it does show the torque for 6 mm to 8 mm bolts. But not these 12mm. I also had a second question. With the Cobra drag pipes I put a stage one jet kit in. If I take the baffles out of the pipes, will I have to rejet it again, or just adjust the fuel air mixer?

I made my exhaust with tubes from a wall mount to a sattelite dish 🤭 + some cheap fishtail mufflers... simple.
Do you have a video on tuning the carbeurator after this specific job on that bike?
Not sure if your still around, but your thoughts on exhaust wraps for the pipes?
Do y’all have any videos on how to install exhaust on the 1100 shadow Sabre 2007?
Curious. What would happen if you didn't rejet the carbs and took it for a spin after installing pipes?
Bad things. You won't get any benefit at all, the bike will run worse, and you end up doing damage to the bike. Tune.
