I heard dish soap is not the best to use on joints. I suggest shock oil or something similar. Personally, if you heat up the figure with hot water, no damage will me done to the plastic and it'll be safe to move the joints after you do your method of loosening saind joints...

I really wanted to like the classified line, theres just been too many problems with it. I have about 10 different characters besides a few troopers and a couple officers, and had tiger force outback on preorder from target, but they canceled my preorder and it was the last straw for me. Cancelled all my other classified preorders from bbts, and glad i did, had 2 sets of vipers and ive seen theyre plagued with QC issues. Glad to see youre figuring out ways to fix some of the issues and sharing it. I just think with the price point, we should not be having to fix their brand new products ourselves. As always, love your content!
Dude, glad I'm not the only one annoyed to no end with how Hasbro are doing the leg/hip system. Practically all mine have this issue, and I have to heat them up before doing any new poses. It's very annoying! I'd like to just take the figure off the shelf and get to posing them, but nope, gotta heat'em up every time. Luckily, I haven't had any legs break yet, but I do have 3 or 4 that have the stressing at that dreaded drop-down leg hinge area. They really need to reinforce that area and/or recalibrate the molds to allow a little more breathing room on that actual leg socket or sand them studs down on that ball joint. Got my TF Outback early last week and, well, very dope ass figure and a favorite so far. He's definitely a top tier, IMO. Mine's legs actually did OK, but I did heat them up before moving them. I'll likely just keep heating them up. Haha! Ugh! Good vid as always mayn!
I bought this figure and made some minor adjustments to the paint. Added silver on all buckles and black to the straps on his thighs and backpack. Added a weathering wash to add that realistic jungle look and I gotta tell you I am so happy lol
This video should be a public service announcement on Hasbro Pulse. It saved me anguish with at least half a dozen figures including a Croc Master I had opened a month ago. Knowing Articulated Ninja’s site is half the battle.
Thanks for posting this. Had this problem with so many Classifed figures. Outback, Spirit, Zartan, Retro Baroness, Viper 3 pack (all of them) and now Sgt Slaughter have this problem in my experience. Had a few snap exactly how you described... its so frustrating! Love this line but geesh, Hasbro has got to fix this. The loose torsos and loose drop down hips can be another problem as well..
and if you don't want to use sticky tac on a loose ball joint, coating the joint with clear nail polish actually works really well. thankfully, so far, heating has fixed all my gummy leg issues, and personally I'm not a fan of the drop down hip joints cause they are much thinner than the hip joints hasbro uses for like marvel legends.
it is how they do it, never had any issue with drop down hip on other toy lines including Hasbro ML as well, thry should not have added those poping out dots to increase the friction
I've heard of this problem before and I heard that there's a silicone shock oil you use that lubricant those frozen joints. However its great to see your solution it can be a plan B if that oil doesn't correct the problem. By the way, my preorder for this version of Outback was canceled after waiting for it for a year and yesterday I just logged on to Hasbro pulse and noticed it was back in stock. I quickly placed a order for him and today I got a notice that it's been shipped out to me. Should arrive some time this week. I got this Outback with the gummy legs and used my Traxxas Silicone Shock Oil to the ball joints where the legs connect and they loosened up just fine without having to take the figure apart and dremmel. Highly recommend this technique before going a little more drastic.
I had the same problem with Spirit. I used a fine hand file that’s curved to go in. Also a drop of gun oil. You could try wd40 to but it might be messier. Thank you for the video. Nice to know it wasn’t just my figs.

Most of the last several Classified figures I’ve gotten had this issue. I used to be able to correct it by heating the figure and working the joint around while it was still warm and flexible. But my Python Patrol BAT and TF Outback tightened right back up after they cooled down. I put a little silicone oil into the joints and that fixed them right up. Hopefully it works long-term. I really wish they would get a handle on the issue…
The issue is not stiff joint, is a desing problem, the drop down joint need sturder plastic, but they use the same gummy one that tend to rotate with the leg and ripped by the tension the sturder leg plastic creates.
I used Traxxas Silicone Shock Oil and my gummy Tiger Force Outback and it worked like a charm to loosen it up without having to take it apart and using a dremmel. I recommend this method first and if it doesn't work for some reason for you, try this method as suggested by Articulated Ninja.
Nice fix. Another solution that be more affordable if one doesn’t have a dremel is using some sandpaper and slightly sand the studs in the ball joint of the hip. Just heat the legs up with a blow dryer or hot water to pop the legs off and on easily.
I now have silicone shock oil, that I automatically add to all of my new Joe figures. It makes a world of difference, but it still sucks Hasbro keeps delivering figures with faulty quality control/engineering.

Shock oil works for me. I feel like the chance to f up the figure is too great for me to do this. I use Kiki for loose joints and shock oil for tight ones. Never snapped a joint since.

Mostly when I have this problem warming up the figure does the trick. The one time I had it bad was the color change Zartan. It was bad enough I ended up swapping his waist with the regular version.

Just found a Tiger Force Outback in the wild. It's no joke, those hip joints are tight as heck. Really appreciate this video. It will make the difference between Outback being a toy vs a being a statue.
Ugh, that problem happens with happens in my storm shadow figure. It's really difficult to have fun posing it without the fear of breaking that hinged ball joint.
Hasbro has been making action figures for like 70 years. It isn't like they are a new company creating the wheel. I don't know why they can get it right.
Or you can solve most of this with mineral oil....that allows the leg to move but retains some of the stability of the joint so that it won't get super loose Robo @fwoosh on UA-cam demonstrates this on a couple of his early classified reviews....I've been doing that since the beginning and have not had any issues at worst try dremeling the knobs down on the ball .....respect you for your innovation not saying my way is better but certainly works and might be helpful for those who aren't comfortable heating and poppin or using a dremel great vid brother

GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE! I finally opened my TF outback, and I was able to fix his legs without a dremel!!! I took him out and immediately noticed the stuck "gummy legs". Then ibtried something. Instead of bending his legs forward, which twists the ball peg... I bend them OUTWARD, you know, the van Damme or "the glenn". Did that about 5 or 6 times and gues what? IT WORKED!!!! legs now move freely and I didn't have to boil/pop, dremel, anything! Give it a try!
People, these figures are not meant as toys. They are meant to be left in the box and to be stored in a pet-free, climate-controlled room where you can, once in a great big while, adore them before putting them back into storage. At this price point, there should no dremeling or dish-soaping or whatever necessary. Remember the good old times when the bar was made of metal?
The classified figures suck from the waist down. If they're not gummy and tight at the hips, then they're too loose at the knees and ankles. I've started pulling the heads and accessories off of them and just making my own customs of the characters using bucks from other lines.

So i have a way that i used on my 3.75 figures before i sold them off to start doing the classifieds. i was turned on from a friend to get supeerfine microbrushes from hobby lobby or any other hobby store along with Pellgun oil. just a slight touch or two is enough to allow movement with stiff joints in an instant. try it out . here in califorina a package of 10 microbrushes cost abuck 99 and the oil is less then 5 i think and it last a long time. have a great one
When I opened up my alley viper the leg was stiff. I lift the leg and seen stress marks on the ball joint and it snapped clean off so I had to disassemble and thankfully I had a spare ball joint in my fodder to replace it.
Bro more than half of my Joe's have this problem I've tried hot water cold water and like you said it comes right back. I feel soooooo much stress having all these figures and scared to death to pose them.
If I can get these two figures I'll keep that in mind in fact my Scarlet figures legs haven't give me a little bit of trouble so that should give it a try.
My G.i. joe classified Stalker figure's had this type of problem and what i did to fix it was by sanding down the ball peg of the hips a bit by using sand paper and it works.
There's a dremel bit on Amazon called Dremel 191 Rotary Tool Accessory Carving Bit with a round ball shaped head that will make this a little more easy i think.
I dremeled just a little on a very tight spirit, it was to much and leg falls off. Drop hips are stupidest change ever. I sand the ball now. Works better
Hey Ninja got a question recently I acquired Spirit Iron Knife, but it's hips already are presenting stress marks. It's too late for sanding the ball peck or putting it into hot water? I don't know what to do.
I had to take a she ra figure back. I tried to remove her head to replace the shoulder armor. I heated it up. Couldn’t pop it off or turn it. I saw the neck peg was actually stretching and turning. No heat worked once it started stretching the peg. Never happened to me this bad before.
This issue seems to affect almost all the TF Outbacks. Mine had this on the left leg. I’ve read that others had issues with the gummy hip joints on other forums. My Python Patrol BAT and Alley Viper had the same issue.
This is literally what I started doing myself to the smaller Retro figures that used this burr design on the ball joint. It's a dumb ass design that makes it seem like Hasbro wanted figures to break. I have a few Classified figures I will need to do this too also when I get the time to mess with them.
The first few waves of the MOTU Revelations figures had very tight gummy ball joints on the hips. What sucks is that EVERY reviewer made no mention of it even though you can clearly see the gumminess when they do the articulations and then you always see an edit or a cut in their videos showing the figure back in neutral position. You know they had to make adjustment to the figure but they cut that part out and say nothing. Anyway, I fixed mine by adding a tiny drop of shock grease to the ball joint and it worked.
I have this same problem on one of my B.A.T. s, but for my Outback figure, his right bicep joint is SUPER TIGHT, so I warmed it up and let it settle, worked it around a little bit, and it still tore off. i got a second one, and the same thing is happening but it hasn't torn. The plastic on this guy just seems so weak.
I appreciate seeing this done and know I need a Dremel at some point. I've never run into the problem with the Joes but I definitely had it happen a few years ago with Mattel's wwf Elites. One bit of criticism--please watch how often you say actual/actually.....I was about to stop watching because of how much it was getting said. 😋 It's a nitpick, I know. 😉
I've had that problem with three or four Classified figures. Having the problem with the New Anniversary Recon Diver Now. Hasbro needs to give the Classified figures the stronger hip joints from Marvel Legends or Star Wars Black Series
Dremel is a brand Amazon or Walmart carries them. I dremeled to much I've had more success sanding. Honestly any sandpaper will do, heat em up pop em off and sand the knobs on the pegs. I'm going to try this silicone shock oil they talk about in comments also

I had have to super glued (only the ball joint so the legs keep articulated) all my joes so far to avoid the joint breaking. Actually my spirit broke right after open it. Those joints are just useless.
Using some dish soap on the end of a toothpick or small paintbrush and applying it to the joint and then working it around works really well too.

Totally agree about the drop down hips. Plus they hardly add any articulation to the figure.

I used a 3/16 drill bit and drilled very lightly around the edges of the socket. Worked like a charm

Have you tried Traxxas silicon shock oil for stiff joints? Also yes love my Drexel with the craving tip. Another great vid.

I use a heat gun on mine. Then I work the joints. If the legs are that sticky, I hit it with RC silicone shock oil

Nice fix. My only suggestion would be to use a ball shaped bit for your Dremel. It might be easier to maintain the rounded shape of the socket
My G.i. joe classified Stalker figure's had this type of problem and what i did to fix it was by sanding down the ball peg of the hips a bit by using sand paper and it works.
There's a dremel bit on Amazon called Dremel 191 Rotary Tool Accessory Carving Bit with a round ball shaped head that will make this a little more easy i think.
I dremeled just a little on a very tight spirit, it was to much and leg falls off. Drop hips are stupidest change ever. I sand the ball now. Works better
@@GIJoe-fvv yeah I was afraid I'd do that too but if you go slow and cautious especially on the speed of the dremel it helps.
Hey Ninja got a question recently I acquired Spirit Iron Knife, but it's hips already are presenting stress marks. It's too late for sanding the ball peck or putting it into hot water? I don't know what to do.
I had to take a she ra figure back. I tried to remove her head to replace the shoulder armor. I heated it up. Couldn’t pop it off or turn it. I saw the neck peg was actually stretching and turning. No heat worked once it started stretching the peg. Never happened to me this bad before.
This issue seems to affect almost all the TF Outbacks. Mine had this on the left leg. I’ve read that others had issues with the gummy hip joints on other forums. My Python Patrol BAT and Alley Viper had the same issue.
You should try pure liquid silicone first before modifying the joint

I like to pop the leg off and sand down the nubs on the ball ,sand a little then do a test fit repeat if necessary.
This is literally what I started doing myself to the smaller Retro figures that used this burr design on the ball joint. It's a dumb ass design that makes it seem like Hasbro wanted figures to break. I have a few Classified figures I will need to do this too also when I get the time to mess with them.
They could switch to a metal dumbbell joint.
Can Outback's head fit onto Commando Snake Eye's body?
The first few waves of the MOTU Revelations figures had very tight gummy ball joints on the hips. What sucks is that EVERY reviewer made no mention of it even though you can clearly see the gumminess when they do the articulations and then you always see an edit or a cut in their videos showing the figure back in neutral position. You know they had to make adjustment to the figure but they cut that part out and say nothing. Anyway, I fixed mine by adding a tiny drop of shock grease to the ball joint and it worked.

My slaughter had this issue & I just put him on the Jean claud van damn pose & dropped a lil drop of oil in both sockets..

I have this same problem on one of my B.A.T. s, but for my Outback figure, his right bicep joint is SUPER TIGHT, so I warmed it up and let it settle, worked it around a little bit, and it still tore off. i got a second one, and the same thing is happening but it hasn't torn. The plastic on this guy just seems so weak.
I know fwoosh has had that issue and he uses some kind of lube. Although your fix seems more permanent, not sure how often he has to apply it.

I appreciate seeing this done and know I need a Dremel at some point. I've never run into the problem with the Joes but I definitely had it happen a few years ago with Mattel's wwf Elites. One bit of criticism--please watch how often you say actual/actually.....I was about to stop watching because of how much it was getting said. 😋 It's a nitpick, I know. 😉
I've had that problem with three or four Classified figures. Having the problem with the New Anniversary Recon Diver Now. Hasbro needs to give the Classified figures the stronger hip joints from Marvel Legends or Star Wars Black Series

Dremel is a brand Amazon or Walmart carries them. I dremeled to much I've had more success sanding. Honestly any sandpaper will do, heat em up pop em off and sand the knobs on the pegs. I'm going to try this silicone shock oil they talk about in comments also

I had have to super glued (only the ball joint so the legs keep articulated) all my joes so far to avoid the joint breaking. Actually my spirit broke right after open it. Those joints are just useless.
