Got me good.
Two additional neat tidbits: • The Shadow Lands Map still shows art for these dragons around Jagged Peak the same way that the Lands Between map does around Farum Azula. • You can also see them flying from the Storehouse Loft in Shadow Keep if you look over the Cathedral of Manus Metyr... but oddly Jagged Peak doesn't seem to be fully rendered.

If you line up the Central Pillar to the Divine Towers (draw lines from between the towers and put the pillar at the intersection)... And scale it so that nothing is clipping and the Scadutree would be next to the Erdtree... The map winds up being about the size of Limgrave, and Farum Azula would fit in nicely to the Jagged Peak area *and* be able to connect to the Beastman Arena where Garrenk is. It all lines up quite nicely that way. Especially given how Bayle's ability to fly is very marginal.
Is this true?? How much scaling (downsize or upscale) is there needed to fit Shadowlands into Lands Between? Would Lord Plasc(not even gonna try to spell it) have been able to tear Azula from Jagged Peak to be outside time and space from the Shadowlands before Marika hid the Shadowlands from the Lands Between?
I don't think Farum Azula is a mystery. It used to be between Caelid and the Mountaintops, connecting them before the meteor destroyed it. The divine towers circle around what seems like what was once a lake, and there is a massive waterfall dropping to the sea supporting that idea. The sanctum has Farum architecture and it probably was part of the city, the big bridge to it adds just another evidence to it. Also drakes are near the sanctum, makes sense they would linger there after being banished, just like they linger around Farum Azula but you never encounter them in the city.
It is the most plausible explanation for sure, what makes this all the more confusing is that if you laid out the map of the land of shadow at the center of the land between the Jaggaed Peak seem to perfectly fit in top of Dragonbarrow near the sanctum, and also the Jagged Peak having Drakes and Ancient dragons corpses plus the similar Farum architecture in Bayle's Arena makes you question if there is more to its origin than just that.
@@Kami.Sensei To be clear I'm pro-Jagged Peaks = Farum, and it does line up very nicely. However we are making our own choices when we scale and align the maps... but it does line up super well
The drakes are in dragonbarrow because of the scarlet rot in Caelid, apparently they used to live in the lower areas. Source: item description of the 'Dragonbarrow' map.
1:21 - ah, that explains why I can see birds flying from Enir Ilim to the Jagged Peak or Scadutree when I'm at the Suppression Pillar, but not in other places. Since I was experimenting with Suppressing Pillar like crazy (using anything I could think of that could be a secret interaction to unmake it, like Law of Regression, Hefty Pots, etc), and I noticed these birds there, I was breaking my head if they were response to something I did or not. Oh well.
Imagine how cool it would have been to see these drakes circling around the jagged peak from basically anywhere in the map, then you finally get to the summit and the first thing you see as you approach Bayles arena is all the drakes flustering down and landing to spectate the fight, then when Bayle enters phase 2 the eruption of flame lighting kills them all and after you beat him the dragons circling the peak from distant maps don't show up anymore
Very interesting vid! Cut content like this that would have affected the atmosphere of the overworld or a level in some way is just endlessly fascinating to me.
You can actually see them during the heavy storm at the Jagged Peak Mountain side site of grace but when the weather clears, they disappear too. Although they are barely visible to begin since they are deep in the storm
That explains why there wasn't anything in my Jagged peak video, I had to clear the storm in debug mode to make it visible, maybe they are configured to disappear when the storm is gone while you're still in the mountain.
I could've sworn id seen these dragons being flung around in the air during the super stormy part of the climb to bayle, nearby the lil chair guy. But perhaps I'm a fool.
You can see them from jagged peak itself, but the storm makes it very hard to do so. It takes them roughly 20 ish seconds to fully cycle around, and when they do they’ll clip past the storm filter and you can see them fly by.
I remember that when I scaled the Jagged Peak, I saw these drakes being dragged through the sky in the area just before the lightning strikes next to the Drake corpses. I was very suprised since they only appeared once and the sky was empty of them afterwards. Given that either Bayle or the Drake Hunters kill them if great amounts, I thought it was supposed to emulate Bayle actually sending them off with a storm wind. As if if had no respect for them and simply swatted them away with his winds.
Even if we couldn’t see them from the jagged peaks it would still have been nice to see them flying through the clouds. Sometimes when waiting to be summoned I will wait at this site of grace so seeing some dragons dive into and out of the clouds would be cool to look at.
The theory Farum Azula was part of Jagged Peak kinda interesting. - Senessax is here, when all other ancient Dragons had gone to Lands Between and Farum Azula. Mean Jagged Peak could be home to Ancient Dragons, once. - Farum Azula has human statues, small, but yes, it has. They wear an octagonal crown on their heads. - The stone pillars in Maliketh's bossroom are also octagonal. Same with Placidusax bossroom. - The Octagon symbolizes the passage from the earthly plane (square) to the celestial plane (circle) or "squaring the circle", of rebirth and Ressurection. Symbolize to the Dragon: Fearsome on earth, Roaming the Sky. - The Octagon have many meaning depend on the culture. In Buddhism it means completion, in Chinese it symbolizes good luck and completeness, in Hebrew it is the number of the Lord, in Taoism there are eight immortals, and in Christianity it denotes the eight beatitudes. - Back to Ancient Ruins of Rauh, the Goddess Statues also wear an octagonal crown. This Civilization blessed by an Outer God that gave them Verdigris - a super hard, thick, solid material, Boots Strenght and Poise (super Tanky). Verdigris Set armor turned player to a living rock. Also, Rauh created Golems that can see across Lands Between. Rauh's Architecture almost anywhere too, with all the pillars are octagonal. 6 Divine Towers have Octagonal structure too. You guys can search for Video of Nameless Singer about Rauh Civilization. - Ancient Ruins of Rauh and Jagged Peak lie at 2 side of map. Belurat Tower seem like built later, same with the Scadutree because of Erdtree, so in the past, Ancient Ruins of Rauh and Jagged Peak are the highest area in this land. - Ancient Dragons have STONE SCALE. All of them. - Rauh Civilization BASED on STONE and flow of life. - They have some similar Architecture. - Also , in DLC, The colossal Dragon in Grand Altar of Dragon Communion has a pillar stone that thrust straight into its head. That pillar stone has Verdigris color. I wonder if in the past, this 2 civilizations had any connection or interaction with each other.
Possibly, they were an early bit of flair during development, but it was decided that drakes flying around the mountain would not have fit the actual feeling of area, since most of the drakes found around the Jagged Peak are decidedly... less lively.
When I saw @otzdarva's playthrough, I saw one drake flying like this on the jagged peak, on the way to the Bayle. He didn't see him, but I stopped it on the frame where the dragon was. The video is called "So... Where's Miquella? - SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE (Part 1)" the time is 7:17:18
A suggestion I have is maybe trying to find the actual physical location of Metyrs arena? I wonder if it’s stored somewhere just out of view of the normal world (similar to how Placidusax’s arena is actually just stored high above the tornado in Farum Azula.) I think it would be interesting to learn where exactly it’s located

I think it'd also be neat to see where each Ancestor Spirit's boss room is, along with the God-Devouring Serpent/Rykard's arena. I'm likewise curious about what's actually present at the underground space between the Lake of Rot and the Grand Cloister with Astel.

I don't think they "lack" the flying animation per se. Since the Jagged Peak is full of corpses of drakes I think these are dead drakes that are being swept around by the wind around the mountain. You can even see in their animation how they are rotating and spinning like their flight is out of control
That's an interesting take on this though it is debatable if the winds around the jagged peak are strong enough to carry them around and keep them trapped on a loop circulating around the mountain, We also never seen any example of this with the ones circulating around the giant cyclones in Farum Azula cause some of them fly very close by to them without seemingly being affected by the pull effect.
