Lex, you get it. You just get it.
Literally came here to say this
Yup
Exactly what I thought.
Facts
I love how much Lex gets it. Music, lyrics, message...everything. Open your 3rd eye Brad.
Lol, good reference juggy, for real tho Lex rocks out! Natural headbanger!
Lex needs to go to a Tool show. She must appreciate so many great types of music. I don't care what color anyone is. Anyone that gets the meaning AND the groove of a tune like that is top notch in my book.
Certain irony with this comment telling him to open his 3rd eye as the song is about the opposite of being absolutely materialistic by selling out.
She looks exactly like my when I listen to this song 🕺🏽
The humor of this kid who is basically a walking advertisement saying that Tool “sold out”
Seems they kinda missed the 1st part about all the "brands" the guy was sporting.
One of my favorite parts of this song is the "In-between sips of coke, he told me he thought we were selling out". The beautiful irony of drinking one of the most well-known brands in the world while accusing someone else of being a sheep is hilarious.
Not to mention, the whole set up of describing the guy...vans, 501s, beastie ts, nipple rings, tattoos. The guy is a sheep following every trend, with popular brand names, talking about selling out, LOL. I love this song.
Nailed it!
While I was drinking a diet mountain dew, a guy smoking a cigarette shamed me for putting terrible chemicals in my body.
@@eaguillen2924 🤣🤣🤣
@@eaguillen2924 you should've told him to Do the Dew.
"OGT" means "OG TOOL Fan". This song is basically a Maynard diss track where he is dissing a supposed TOOL fan who was complaining to Maynard that they sold out to the record company and changed their sound. This is still one of my favorite diss tracks of any genre. Next to NAS' song Ether where he was dissing JAY-Z. lol
Nas bodies Jay on Ether!! Nice shout out
This is something every Hard Rock/ Metal bands has to deal with. Some of the people who supported you at the beginning become so attached to the idea they are among the few who know this great band that the minute the great band they supposedly love starts getting to much attention they turn on them.
Sure the band might have changed a bit over time as all bands do. It doesn't mean they made those changes to be more popular it just means their talent and tastes evolved. Music is an art form and you wouldn't expect a painter to keep drawing the same picture over and over so why do people expect musical acts to stay in a very narrow style of song type?
OGT Original Gansta TooL fanatic.
I've worked for the band 4 years on multiple tours I asked once about this and I was told who the song is actually about he's a guitar player just wondering if you know who it is
Original gangsta thug
"Hooker with a Package" genuinely cracked me up
i came to the comments looking for someone else
Drummer, Danny Careys, nickname is "the octopus". He is amazingly skilled at his craft.
Carey*
Pneuma drum cam view 😉
@Gleb Mikhalev True, but Danny plays (and executes) for TOOL. If he were in a different band I'm pretty sure he could manage whatever they threw at him. To a point, of course. He's not gonna be blast-beating past the Norwegians, per se, or putting Buddy Rich to shame, but... Who really listens to that shit, anyway?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Gleb Mikhalev All I know is that you'll find Carey on multiple "best drummers of all time" lists, and most likely not Austin Archey unless you look up "Best Deathcore Metal drummers of all time"
Early Tool is pissed and telling everyone off, but an interesting track is Ticks and Leeches which goes after the record label right in the middle of their most spiritual album
As a devoted and deep-diving Tool fan, I can't believe it took a comment on a UA-cam video to clue me into the connection between T&L and their record label issues in the 90s.
That will genuinely add more enjoyment to the song for me. It's always felt so out of place on Lateralus to me, an interruption. This context changes that for me. Kudos.
@@mikefraser3667 My T&L awakening also came from a YT comment around when FI released. It pointed out how they slowed the middle down to make it long enough to deter radio play as a fuck you to the label who wanted a heavier single
@@mikefraser3667 IIRC the song relates more to Lateralus itself, and the record label wanting a song which was more like what they'd done in the past that they could play on the radio, hence "is this what you wanted? Is this what you had in mind? 'Cause this so what you're getting"
With a nice peaceful interlude in the middle of the song just to make sure the suits couldn't actually use it as the "heavy single" they wanted
You guys have to watch Danny Carey play "Pneuma" live. It's mind blowing 🤯!!
This. Watch a master of the craft at the top of his game.
Go watch Triad ✌️
Retweet
Yes, please do a "Pneuma" reaction video. This request is a little selfish because I am running out of "Pneuma" reaction videos to watch.
I absolutely second this.
Tool was talking about fans saying that they have changed to appeal to the masses and sold out but they are basically stating that everyone is a sell out and everything is just a product including themselves. That's why he was name dropping products in the beginning such as Van's, 501s, Coke, etc.
I love this Tool song, it's so straight forward, raw and direct, yet it strikes deep at the larger conversation of hypocrisy and our relationship to consumerism and capitalism.
Well stated!
capitalism died when they created the federal reserve.
@@williamlaprarie3007 No, it didn't. The US functions as a capitalist country... heck, even China has become a capitalist dictatorship.
@@mountainpeakcloud8442 this and that is not capitalism. our education system is obviously broken.
@@williamlaprarie3007 If you don't understand that the US is a capitalist system, you don't understand capitalism. The problems in our public school education largely stem from capitalism, because conservatives keep trying to defund schools to make them fail so that they have create corporately owned charter schools which they can profit off of.
They have matured greatly, yet this is still my favorite TOOL album.
It was the true beginning of Tool. I still love the earlier songs but this is when they deepened their meaning and found their purpose. Ænima is unbelievable as a whole. H. is still my favorite song of all time.
Tools discography is the most worthwhile experience in music you will encounter. Check out every song. Its all fire.
at least once a year I listen to Opiate>Fear Inoculum straight through and I probably will till I'm not breathing anymore, Love to hear the progression album to album. There is no band like TOOL
In my opinion, only bested by Led Zeppelin, but I'm 55.
Just for their covers alone!
Imagine being the guy that inspired this song.
I doubt it's one person, knowing MJK it's an analogy directed at thousands!
😬😬😬😬😂😂😂😂😂
apparently he lives in Maynard's head rent free
Tool is the only band that talks shit to their fans faces and the fans just fucking eat it up. Gotta love em.
It isn't all fans. It's a fan specifically saying they sold out. I never called them sell outs so the song ain't talking to me man.
just like metallic fans, when they cut their hair, everyone started calling them commercial sell outs....
He’s just making fun of people who put musicians on some type of higher pedestal and telling them to shut up and/or just enjoy the music because they don’t know what they’re even talking about
dude ...michigan sucks
'Pneuma' live gives you a good look at what Tool's drummer Danny Carey can really do🤘
YES
I think many other songs can do that better in a way, like Rosetta Stoned, BUUUTT, none of them have the super high quality of Pneuma so I am in agreeance about it. Pneuma is a fucking vibe though and still my favorite song off the new album.
Pneuma's not particularly fair to its listener!
Old Tool doesn't get as much love, it's so much more raw and angry. Jerk off is another great old Tool song people should check out, even the live 92' version at JC Dobbs is crazy to witness.
Undertow is good but its almost a different band (you can tell its the same band but Aenima really is a turning point) as for Opiate its very different.
'Hush' always deserves more attention
Oh yeah love Jerk Off.....the song, but yeah that too...........especially after getting rid of a pain in the ass roommate at the time
STARTED FOLLOWING TOOL BACK IN 93 THE UNDERTOW CD AND I AGREE
Completely agree. Opiate album is pure adrenaline all the way through.
Tool is amazing. Intricate hard music with constant change-ups, intelligent lyrics, powerful vocals. Eargasm every song!
YAAAAS!!! Y'all finally doing more TOOL!!!! My favorite band of all time! More TOOOOOL!!!
Used to listen to this song before my hockey games back in high school, it pumped me up perfectly for the sport
Me too but football
Lex your insights are SPOT ON. I think you guys are phenomenal. Such a fan.
You guys always enjoy Tool's messages and the music, so you should def do way more Tool 😆 . Seriously tho, Brad is big on lyrics and they're definitely one of the best. And Lex always loves Danny's drumming. "Try Descending" off their new album. Powerful message and the music is a masterful. Cheers!
Haven't listened to FN yet. Someone didn't seem to like Chocolate Chip, so we'll see.
Y’all are awesome.
You gettin it. Keep going.
OGTool (fan) from '92. It seems like every song I discover, rediscover, search and find there's Brad and Lex reacting to it.
Keep up the good work.
Lex is one of us LOL love to watch her expand. Brad, open up that eye!
I just wanted to say that I love watching you two guys are awesome‼️Keep up the great job 👏 TOOL IS GREAT ‼️
Brad, you felt like he really meant it. That statement and timing of you saying that had me in tears. Thanks for that brother!
Been waiting for this. ❤️
Perfect analysis! You nailed it, girl!
Lex locked into the groove and the meaning so quick. Cheers bro, you got yourself a keeper.
“I like Tool man”. That made my heart sing. Yeah Lex!
God bless you Lex, you feeling what I did when I first listened to this
This video is funny because she totally gets it. She’s got her eyes closed and she’s in the groove the whole time. He’s just sitting there confused AF like a lot of first-time TOOL listeners who are overwhelmed by trying to figure out the complexity of the sound and simultaneously deciphering lyrics. I lol’d watching this. The girl is GOLD. Don’t ever let her go!
I just discovered this video. I'm revisiting TOOL.. Man, you guys hit it. I appreciate it. Where have you been. Wow this is great.. Thanks
Seeing other people appreciate Tool makes me very happy.
Lex you get it! Great reaction you both!
Great first impression Lex! Pretty much nailed the general gist of the song.
This is now my favorite Tool song. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I dig how Lex is getting down on it. You both seem like cool people to go to a Tool concert. Awesome job guys
You guys gotta give Otep a listen. She is so freakin poetic lyrically.
Been waiting for this one. :D
Lex is going to love this rabbit hole. Lots of stories and history with this band. Great talent for sure. Danny is the beast.
Aenima was still their best album. Fight me.
Also, the fact that he calls out that this person was wearing Levi's, beastie boys tee etc. etc. was nothing but a hypocrite. God I love Maynard
Without a doubt. You just push play and let the whole thing play through.
Aenima > Lateralus > Undertow = 10,000 days > Fear Inoculum for me
I'm one of the few that prefers Undertow. There are DOZENS of us! But Aenima is probably number 2.
When I'm staring at my TOOL cd's (yes, I still listen to cd's), Aenima is the one I pick more often than the others.
Where do Opiate and Salival fall in the list for you? Great tracks there.
Been waiting for this one 🤘
Still waiting for y’all to do The Grudge by Tool.
Guarantee Brad pauses it right when the drop hits.
Love this song! Awesome! Eulogy off this cd has amazing lyrics as well. You two rock 🤘
Dammit I love this song so much. absolute perfect aggression with an incredible driving beat.
Love y'all. Lex just nails it on this one.
Stay Beautiful.
This just made my day!!
Great reaction as always guys, keep spiraling 😃
As I've commented before. THEY ARE EVEN BETTER LIVE. If you hear they are coming to town, you'll thank me after the show. They are a MUST see live. They played a bunch of hits from every album and then the new one. Cheers guys 🍻
I loved yall did this. It was really interesting to watch the generational reaction to one of my favorite hyped energy fuck the masses songs by my lordmanyrd (my FAVORITE MUSICIAN OF ALL TIMES) Its a blessing thank u. Also have to say just fyi i was falling into the tool vortex blissfully w this song on a cassette tape. Tape. Yeah b4 CDs even. Internet existed but not for the poor. Tool is timeless . i just saw them four days ago and at 57 yrs old his presence was bigger than our ozone what a beautiful gift to us all. Thanks
I think this is a difficult song to interpret but i think you both are spot-on. Every point in your reaction i found myself thinking "yep i agree."
Been waiting for this one lol
You guys are really doing your TOOL journey the best way.
Great video - Please do more tool!!!
Great job. Love this song.
your first live show really needs to be these guys. they are something to behold
Super pumped on this one. Great f you energy
Great Reaction to Some Fantastic Music. Thanks for sharing this moment in Time🎼🎼🎼🎼
I literally check this channel every day for new Tool.
First Tool song I can ever remember hearing. On a mix tape from a friend. Probably from around '96. Blew me away.
That neon sign looks so cool!
Very insightful interpretation! 10/10
Love you guys!!!🪶🙏💓😎
Perfect take on the song Lex!!!
The point I take from the song is we are all sells outs or hookers so to speak.
What matters is what you sell and what you get in return.
Maynard sells his voice and talent, in return he gets money and fame.
The guy in the song sells his image, the guy is a billboard for main brands, in return he gets some illusion of popularity.
It does not matter what you sell, your voice, your labor, your talent, even your body.
What matters is are you receiving some thing of equal or greater value to what you sell?
Had to go grab that Genre Fluid hoodie! 👌 props for recognizing Maynard is a lyricist
You are on a roll reviewing.
I've always been thankful to that dude in the 501s.. this has always been one of my favorite tool songs
She likes TOOL. So do we. Let’s go!
“The Patient”
“Intension/Right In Two”
“Eulogy”
One of my favorites back in the day
i LOVE Lex!
Oh fuck yeah here we go!!
I’m here for any tool reaction!
🔥🔥🔥 song. Loving the sign!!!
05:36......then it just goes off into a different stratosphere, one of the few Tool songs that make me want to be in a pit, a really violent one lmao, One of the best Outro's they ever did
I'm so glad you guys like tool. I've been a fan of y'alls for a while. Here's some tool songs you should do I know you will like. Sober, H. , right in two, 46&2, pneuma, and prison sex.
Damn y’all smart AF ❤️
There’s sooooo many great songs!!
I'm in love with Lex! lol... not literally...but figuratively. She's the real deal !!
Lex is great. I love how much she loves Tool. They’re beast af
Oh man , been hoping you’d do this one 😬👍🏼
The bass gives me chills in this song
"Yeah I feel like he really MEANT it" cracked me tf up .. love it
at least you got google, you can read the lyrics and references. back in my day... lol. your comments at the end are great! love how tool can hold a mirror up to your face.
IF YOU WANT A QUALITY PUNK BAND THAT HASNT SOLD OUT IN 25 YEARS, but could have, Green Bay's own Boris the Sprinkler. i recommend "drugs and masturbation" (the opening gives you the band's style), but "gimmie grape juice" or "sheena's got a microwave now" from back in the day, but the opening song on their newest independent record "tonight, tonight" the list goes on
Original Tool Fan. (OG used to be Original Gansta, but is pretty much become the meaning for an "original" or one of the "firsts" nowadays.)
Hooker with a “package” 🤣🤣🤣 Good job and great choice you two! 👏🏻
I wish I could hear this song again for the first time, cuz it was awesome!
This song reminded me of a great song for you two to react to. The part where he says 'Send more money' leads me to suggest 'Send Me Your Money' by Suicidal Tendencies.I won't spoil it but I have to mention that album features Robert Trujlllo on bass. He now plays with Metallica (but you knew that) I personally think his days with Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves was a better musical fit for his bass playing prowess.
Love this song
Tool really is perfect for you two. Brad can analyze the lyrics and Lex and rock out
I like y’all breaking it down
"I felt like he really meant it." Holy shit yo, I'm fucking dying and subscribing. That was great.
I want to come hang out with y'all. The vibes you both give off feel so much like home.
The Lady of The Manor, be digging on Tool, something FIERCE!🔥
Rad!🤘👍😎
Lex is a metalhead at heart forrrr sureeeeeeeeeeee.
Damn...I LOVE TOOL and a Perfect Circle.............
THIS song was actually the one that made me a TOOL fan...kinda liked them before but I heard this at a party & I was all in!!
Maynard has a way with words for sure lol 3 libras by A Perfect Circle is a good one. Its slower though.
APC got a lot of flack when they first came out, from other Tool fans. I love it!
