Sauger: Great Fishing Action! FALL 2021 (Lockport, Manitoba)

  • This was a super fun 2 hours of fishing! We do have #sauger where I live in NW Ontario but they are a rare catch mixed in with the #walleye. This is the only day I've ever had catching these feisty fish exclusively. In the #fall, especially October, walleye and sauger run up the #redriver to #lockport #manitoba. The river is saturated with fish!
    Tackle is very simple: any medium action combo, 8 pound test, jigs (I use 1/4oz #northlandtackle whistler jigs) and scented bait (my preference is #berkleyfishing Gulp minnows, they work and are biodegradable... win win!)
    These saugers may not be as big as the #greenback walleye (check out my previous video to see those) here but they sure are handsome and averaging a fish every 3 mintues... who wouldn't enjoy #fishing like this? As a #multispecies angler I truly enjoyed every second of action. I hope you enjoy the video. Cheers and tight lines!!!

      Haha yes sir. Nothing big but they are a very pretty fish. It's not like this all year except the fall (October) run. 1 month before this I was using the same bait. I got 1 sauger only and 2 big channel cats. It's a crazy good spot for some kind of fish any given time of the year.. If you ever get to Manitoba definitely give it a go!

      Lockport is a great place just be sure to hit it early or late and use snagless sinkers there for cats. Definitely hit it at some point.

      They are really pretty there. The next day we fished downstream closer to the big lake and they look like different species but still saugers. Super pale, no pattern aside from the fins. Probably what you are used to eh? Pale Lake Winnipeg fish. Cheers

      @@differentfins even up on the lake they're pretty variable, some quite pale others with the classic botched pattern.

      I got you back! Even though I cant understand what you are saying in your vids haha. I've fish both sides of the river. When the fish are at the locks I really don't think it matters which side you are on.

      @@differentfins I am working on adding English subs, latest video has them already

      @@maksoutdoorsplus7421 that works. I like hearing other languages but having subtitles would make them more watchable. It's a lot more work but the views would be much higher!

    Safe to eat sauger/walleye from there?

    • @differentfins
      @differentfins  2 роки тому +1

      You can but I have a hard time eating these big river fish in the prairies. I know there is a lot of agriculture and the cities upstream... people do eat the fish in there but its your choice.
