Excellent tutorial. You are indeed a great teacher. I like the extra time you took to not only show the function of each button, but HOW you would use it in a live scenario. Your preparation for the video was great and I could see that your song choices, although not meant to start dancing, did accentuate the points you were making. They only minor issue I found was when you brought your laptop into view, it was upside down, and a bit confusing. I have been DJing for a few years, but I recently got the Serato version of this, and some functions are not the same, but I can now appreciate the differences. Thanks again for a great video. This is a great resource thanks for sharing Kevin ! Do you mind me asking a question, is there a way to scratch the first beat back and forth and release it and the tracks starts to play ?? I can't figure out how to do this
Sure Tommy! My name is Kevin btw :). Yes you can do that pretty easily with this and most controllers. Method 1: load the song and cue up to the first beat, put your hand on the job wheel, and then push play with your other hand. The track won’t play because you have your hand on the track to stop it’s movement. Slow baby scratch by moving the platter forward and backward a couple times (if you are mixing, scratch to the beat of the outgoing song) and then release the platter. Method 2: load your song and cue up to the first beat. Set a hot cue at this first beat. Don’t push play this time. Do your baby scratch like in method 1, then hit your hot cue to simultaneously jump exactly to the first beat AND start playing on beat. This is a safer and more accurate method especially for beginners! Hope that helps

Great video!!! I have the DDJ 400 and was thinking about upgrading to the DDJ 1000 so your video really helped. But I have a question, someone told me that even when I upgrade , I should still run my controller through my external mixer . What’s your take on that ?
Hi! Have a question. So, on a CDJ the two 'search' buttons right above the cue button, can be used to move the cue point. That's what I do when I'm playing. I select the song>hit the search button> use the jog wheel to place the cue exactly at the transient start of the 1st beat of a bar of my choice and then mix. I just got the DDJ 1000 and I can't seem to move the cue point like that. If I hit the search button it jumps to the next track directly. If I double click the play button I have the option to use the jog wheel to move the cue through the track but it's sound's like vinyl scrubbing. So it's not easy to locate the transient of the beat. How to make is transient scrubbing and move the cue point like a CDJ?
Hi! Sorry I can’t replicate what you’re talking about on the ddj-1000. I also looked through the RB settings but can find any additional modes for the search buttons. If I were going to do what you’re talking about, I would simply put the track in Cue, push play, listen to the track in my headphones for the spot I want to set the cue point, and set it. It I need to refine based on the waveform, I would just stop the track, use the jog wheel to finely adjust And set the cue.
@@SmilestonesDJAdventures Ahh okay. I essentially wanted it to mimic the search buttons on a CDJ. Guess that won't be happening. :( Also would you be having any clue with this issue... While scrubbing through a track with my jog wheel, the sound produced, is of vinyl scrubbing. I want the cdj style scrubbing so that i could find the transient of the beat to place my cue point precisely. Anyway to change that? If you've used a CDJ I guess you'll understand what im talking about.
It’s the buttons called beat jump it works the same as search track on CDJs allowing you to scrub through the song quickly but there is no next or previous track buttons. Hope this helps.
Great in depth video of all the features! Just wish Pioneer put a button for Time Remain/Elapse. You can change it on the Rekordbox settings but would be more easier and quicker to do it on the controller. I've notice its only on controllers they don't have a button. All other all in one mixers and decks have. Wierd!
I've had my ddj1000 for a long time just wondering if you know that with the round black ⚫ button you can open folders 📂 but can you close them without doing it from the laptop?? 🤔
Hey! I believe that the round black button aka rotary dial button will collapse a folder just like it expands the folder, if you have the folder name highlighted / in focus. Think of it as a toggle. I am away from my controller at the moment and can’t double check for you but I think that’s correct!
@@SmilestonesDJAdventures I've tried it doesn't do it.. so thought maybe there is another way or a sequence to collapse a folder.. have to keep reaching for the laptop or end up with alot of opened folders
Nope. I think the ddj1000 internal mixer is just fine. There are others who say yes but I’ve played my ddj1000 in many different environments with many different speakers and almost always without an external mixer, with no trouble or quality concerns
Interesting - I don’t know! I tried to research this and even Pioneer don’t talk much about it. Check out item 1-14 in this reference guide cdn.rekordbox.com/files/20200124131224/DDJ-1000_Hardware_Diagram_en.pdf Then I found this in the forums - it speaks of a different controller but I suspect this is the purpose! It’s used to wake the unit up form standby mode if it is enabled and the unit sits for a long time without any activity. I’ve never had to use it though! forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115000216006-XDJ-RX-standby-mode#community_comment_115000228146
On the Rx the controller goes into a kind of sleep mode after x amount of time and that wakes it back up without having to touch any other buttons or faders (which also wake it up but could obviously affect your set)
@@djadriankay Can you MIDI program that button (WAKE UP) to something else? Actually I was wondering if you can also MIDI program the SHIFT part of the "quantize" button on the other deck to something else. There is no record and play buttons on the ddj 1000 and was hoping that I could program these two buttons to those controls.

Do you have a video on how to backup your Rekordbox. 1. Do you store files on your laptop hard drive or on external SSD...which is better. Have read that if on laptop you lose all cue points, grid edits etc if your laptop get lost or damage. You basically have to start all over again, from scratch? But if stored on external SSD...all those edit will be saved. New to all this modern tech.

Thx mate ... this is a clean very helpful explanation
you got my attention after a commercial view. #puntacanacitytours.
Can't wait to pick up mind next Friday 😌
Rock it!!!
Very helpful tutorial, thanks ver much
Great tutorial and thnx for taking the time to explain.
Sure thing Peter
Its so sad that you can't get it to buy anywhere, every website I check is saying there on BACKORDER 😭😭😭😭
Aw sorry Robbie keep looking! I heard about someone getting lucky yesterday (Black Friday) and got one
Do u still need a mixer with this setup. Was told at a club that a ddj1000 wouldn’t cut it I would also need a mixer
Nope. I think the ddj1000 internal mixer is just fine. There are others who say yes but I’ve played my ddj1000 in many different environments with many different speakers and almost always without an external mixer, with no trouble or quality concerns
Thank you for this!
You’re welcome!
What is "WAKE UP" and what does it do? It's the shift selection under the quantize button.
Interesting - I don’t know! I tried to research this and even Pioneer don’t talk much about it. Check out item 1-14 in this reference guide cdn.rekordbox.com/files/20200124131224/DDJ-1000_Hardware_Diagram_en.pdf
Then I found this in the forums - it speaks of a different controller but I suspect this is the purpose!
@@garyusingeri suspect the answer will be no, but its a good idea! I will have a look this afternoon and get back to you.
@@djadriankay Thanks. I appreciate that. I will hope to have my own ddj 1000 in the next week or so. Possibly in October depending on the availability. I will be able to try myself then. Thanks again for the help.
I love my DDJ 1000, but the crossfader is not alligned with the Rekordbox crossfader. It moves in the opposite direction. Can you help me?
Pretty sure there is a setting to flip that in rekordbox! Or perhaps you have your controller upside down! (J/k)
my math teacher said that if i remembered all of this in one night ill get a 100 in the class...ill update.
HAHA nice
Great content! Would suggest to segment the video by titles/commands for ease of navigation.
Ive just bought myself a ddj1000. I am now looking for a laptop to run rekordbox and controller. What is a good recommended spec for it? Thanks
Hey congrats! Hope you have a blast with it. I love mine.
Laptop - don’t think you need too much power or resources, but you also don’t want to undercut. I run a 2018 MacBook Pro with a 2.6GHz 6-core Intel Core i7 and 16GB Ram + 512GB solid state drive… and it runs smoooooth
Any idea on where the loop settings are? My in and out button on the left side isn’t working like they should
proper breakdown x
Amazing brother, thank you!!
Thank you.
Great questions. Yes I made a video for how I handle backup, storage, etc. -- ua-cam.com/video/tZTtsDvhem4/v-deo.html Hope it helps!!
thk you

@@SmilestonesDJAdventures thx man hey so if i move my grid accidently does that do it for just one song or all of them?
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello smilestones DJ, how are you? You will have a review as good and excellent as this but of the pioneer flx10 model, sorry for my daring, but I had to ask you Thank you!!!
Thanks! I don’t but if I buy one of those units I will do that!
@@SmilestonesDJAdventures thank you very much!

Appreciate that, thanks
Thank you very much for this
Does it have vocal drums
I have a question for you, I’m having a hard time trying to upload samples on the software program any suggestions thanks
Sample bank is pretty easy to use, just make sure you have high quality MP3 or WAV files. Here's some good tips that helped me out when I was first messing with RB samples: ua-cam.com/video/WyR3cAbZQ2c/v-deo.htmlsi=_kjVJaD_vthcyu6m
