Honestly they’re the best Bridgerton couple which makes sense because in cannon they’re the originals. One really underrated scene was when older Charlotte was woken up and told the physician you’re lucky my face is a rare jewel. George told her that in episode 6.

I also love the part where Charlotte says "I do not like the part where my head hits the wall, can we avoid that?" and George says "yes, we can avoid that" and smiles at her. he just takes her boundaries and pains so plainly as if they are his own.

QC is based on the real George III and Queen Charlotte. That's why it's so much deeper and more profound than the Bridgerton fiction. It's just a different caliber.
As the foundation for Bridgerton, QC explains why Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury preside over the Bridgerton marriage season. Because of their own experience with being a 17 year-old bride in an arranged marriage, they make sure none of the other young ladies have to endure that.

I had a rough week, but this video just made my day! Thanks Jon for watching Queen Charlotte. These Bridgerton series keep getting better and better. Would you also therapize Lord and Lady Danbury's (toxic) marriage? Also would you therapize Queen Charlotte's relationship with her children? When you have a spouse who has mental illness, it is difficult to balance caring for him/her and raising children at the same time.

The best characteristic of my partner is that he understands and respects my boundaries when I have a trauma response. It’s so challenging to have ptsd and bpd sometimes, but he listens to what I need and takes preventative measures to help reduce the frequency and intensity of episodes. He has helped me learn what it is to have a safe relationship, so I can heal myself. I feel this is portrayed so well in Queen Charlotte, and I appreciated the representation. ❤

This is the West's response to Africa leaving them. Sorry but a lot has been damaged on the continent and no amount of soap opera pandering is going to make Africa stay in an abusive relationship with the West. King George was horrible and the West needs to stop rewriting history.

This was truly lovely. I'd love to see more of your take on this show, actually, because there are a lot of relationship building and mental health topics to explore. I would note that this takes place in the Georgian period (except for the flash-forwards). The Regency period actually refers to later in George's life, when his son, Prinny (also named George) took over as the Prince Regent because his father was too ill to rule. And I love what you did with the P&P/First Impressions allusion! First Impressions was actually the first/working title of P&P!
I think one of Charlotte's greatest faults in this show was her inability to comfort Prinny, her son, on the death of his daughter and granddaughter. The show made it seem like it was maybe his wife and kid, but it wasn't. Prinny couldn't stand his wife. Anyway, Prinny was in deep mourning and rather rightly portrayed as bursting into tears at any moment. He was looking for his mother's love and comfort in a time of great sorrow and she didn't have any to give. It seemed almost as if she was so emotionally spent after years of being a caregiver for her husband and presiding over his decline that she had little warmth or affection left for her children - whom the show portrayed as a bit emotionally stunted and, also, sort of trying to parent Charlotte in a way. At one point, if I remember correctly, she called her daughters spinsters and asked why they didn't grow up and marry already and they were like, "Well, who would be here for you?" She didn't seem to grieve over the death of her granddaughter or great-granddaughter at all. I'd love to see you address this aspect of the show.
I'd also like to see you talk about long term partnership. I know that my sister and I were particularly and unexpectedly touched by a scene at the end of the show, when the elder characters were looking back on each other and seeing their younger selves. It brought a tear to both of our eyes and we weren't quite sure why!

we communicate a lot about all of our needs and we always strive to listen. We both infp, like you jono, and there are people who doubted that we will last because we both tends to avoid conflict but that's the beauty of our relationship. because we don't like conflicts, we tried to communicate with each other first before it becomes bigger than it actually is. we both also the healer type so there's a lot of comfort in our relationship.

Friendship, common values, respect & trust are vital foundation for intimate relationship building.
I also love the wisdom that Charlotte passed onto her son that love is a choice and you love hard with everything you've got. Go all in.

I have on major correction.. It was the Georgian period whilst George was in full state of mind and reigned and it didn’t change into the Regency Era till King George’s eldest son took the regency due to the Kings illness becomes more pronounced ie The Regency Era is just a sub-period of the longer Georgian era (1714-1837)…. Sorry for the correction I’m loving all your UA-cam work.

I love how the Queen Charlotte season informs Charlotte’s character in Bridgerton. We see how loneliness is the root of her perpetual boredom, how her need to protect George and the monarchy causes her to feel so strongly threatened by Lady Whistledown, and that love motivates her inquiries about the king’s health where one might initially think she’s looking forward to widowhood.

I actually liked Queen Charlotte more the the Bridgerton Seasons so far. This is particularly because it deals more with navigating discovery of the other, communication, disappointment, and, bonus, mental health issues in a relationship. The "under the bed" scenario I found quite a nice way to find common ground and language. Also, the whole Danbury storyline is much more challenging, and the "Experiment" albeit fictional - a bumpy ride that needed lots of navigation

I was expecting to see the immense empathy and emotional intelligence Charlotte showed throughout to help George deal with his challenges. Maybe that was so obvious that you chose to highlight George’s efforts here 🤔 Because my goodness, she was a wise old woman in the body of a 10 and 7 year old 😊 Her impact on him was profound.

I believe that heathy boundaries and healthy relationship is when you and your partner not pressuring each other to say, relieve or do something, instead you are doing the opposite- just by calmly trying to get your partner talk or even keep silent and give him or her a little bit of time before completely readiness to say something to you. So you wait for their consent, you keep both of you as equals, by that you are showing that what your partner wants is always matters for you as your own desires
This is what is going to enhance your connection and true commitment to one another.

Queen Charlotte seems a little different than I expected. The most obvious difference from the Charlotte in the portraits would be, naturally, that she has a crisp British accent, and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Streletz had a thick German accent her whole life.
In fact when she married George she spoke no English at all.
But then, this George also has a much stronger jawline than his prototype. They might have sacrificed a certain historical accuracy for appealing actors.

I found the relationship quite coercive. He was nice enough to get to get her willing to marry him, then drops her and keeps her away, once she’s trapped. I don’t like that unhealthy relationships are idealized in media.. it’s rare to see a truly healthy relationship. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @kunglaoshat1250
      @kunglaoshat1250 10 місяців тому +8

Sorry in advance for the novel length comment lol.
I think there’s a difference between idealizing unhealthy relationships and showing flawed characters making mistakes. George and Charlotte grow from their mistakes and by the end they have a healthy and loving partnership. The unhealthy behaviors are always presented as being bad and the characters learn from those mistakes and go on to develop a marriage based on honesty and acceptance.
Saying George coerced Charlotte and then dropped her once she was trapped with him is s bit of an oversimplification. Because of the historical time period and their positions as royals neither really had a choice about the wedding. George didn’t even want to get married, but his mother had the contracts signed and Charlotte on a ship before they even told him. Later he said he fell in love with her when he met her so he was being genuine and not JUST trying to convince her to marry him.
George made mistakes, but he was in a very difficult situation. If George’s condition was revealed to the public he would lose the throne. It’s implied his mother was telling him he should even keep it from his wife (“You told me I could not let her know me to protect the secrets of the crown. I have not.”) Because of the attitudes around mental illness during that time George had a lot of shame around his condition and felt he was unlovable because of his “madness”. Distancing himself without any explanation was wrong, but I think it’s important to remember that these were the actions of a man who was made to feel he was unlovable, damaged and shameful his entire life. Also during the time that he was distancing himself from her he was undergoing extreme medical abuse in an effort to get better to be with her.
