    I just built one of these it’s incredible!! I have a 70 pound bow and I shot the target at 15 yards and my 3 year old daughter can pull the arrow out. Thank you so much for your this video. Anyone that shoots archery needs one of these!

      @@smitharchery8955 I have the umarex air sabre. Do you think this would stop them? Arrows shoot roughly 300-400fps give or take a little depending on air psi in tank. I have plenty of old carpet and lumber to use. I'm guessing I should make it a little thicker?

    Good looking Matthews!! I love my old z7 extreme , oldy but a goody! I'm gonna build me one of these but I'm gonna use scrap rubber hoses and giant plastic bags from were I work, I figured I could cut them up in pretty small chunks and pack it in the frame, I'm not 💯 yet on how to do it but I'm doing research as we speak!

    Great design . Only thing I can think of that I would add is wheels for portability move it around . Oh and you said the roof part ! Cool

    Wonderful idea! I just made a couple hay bale targets and sheds that work fine but the next target is definitely going to be on this design. Thanks for sharing.

    Could easily fit 2 wheels on one bottom corner and a handle to tow it - suggest larger wheels on rough ground - nearly finished the build - finished and works better than I could have hoped.

    I made one but thicker in width. Glad i did. Useful tip: don't pack your target with alternate material like shedded pine chips. I didn't understand the physics behind the clithing dtuffing. I now know..lol

    Put some old grill wheels on it so you can wheel it into a shed when not in use.It would last a hell of a lot longer when not exposed to the elements.

    Make the same way but have another removable frame containing a flat sheet of foam. This covers up the bellying effect.

    Great video. I appreciate it. Also, if you only have the one big Con of it being heavy, you could always slap some mower or wheelbarrow tires on one end of it. Thanks for sharing. How does the carpet do compared to feed bag or burlap?

    Using pressed hay is usefull. Or twisted ropes of hay pulled in spirall.

    Nice will this work for practice arrows on a recurve bow? Not sure if the dull tips will penetrate the carpet.

    • @smitharchery8955
      @smitharchery8955  4 роки тому +2

      Jack Uri it just depends on your poundage. If you are shooting 40lb or higher then I can’t imagine them not penetrating.

  • @bowprobowpro

    How long does the carpet facing last before you need to replace it? Approximately how many arrow shots?

    • @smitharchery8955
      @smitharchery8955  4 роки тому +1

      Pat Norris I’ve never done an official arrow count. But as long as you space the dots and spread out your arrows it will last a long time. Plus you can shoot both sides. If you shoot a lot of arrows I might suggest changing the carpet once a year.

    I just take huge cardboard boxes and fill them with layers of more cardboard and styrofoam. Pack it tightly. at 15 yards using a 50lb recurve bow my arrows only penetrate about 4 inches.

  • @bobchapman5898
    @bobchapman5898 4 місяці тому

    Just put the jeans on the bottom few inches for filler as you never shoot there anyway.

  • @HowHingPau

    Since you're using old clothing for the target's stuffing, what's your opinion on the need to remove buttons and zippers?

    • @smitharchery8955
      @smitharchery8955  3 роки тому

      I haven’t had any issues with zippers. Plastic buttons are no issue but stay away from metallic buttons and definitely stay away from denim.

  • @davidhefner5668
    @davidhefner5668 3 роки тому

    I think a 1" x 12" would be adequate and cheaper as the price of lumber it ridiculous right now.Needs to be a little lighter as I'm going to hang it on chains.

  • @snowdogarcticadventureco.9246
    @snowdogarcticadventureco.9246 4 роки тому

    Nice one dude, I was going to use plastic or compressed cardboard but this seems to work better. One thing, what do you do about buttons and zips etc. Do you remove them just in case they damage your tips?

    • @smitharchery8955
      @smitharchery8955  4 роки тому +3

      Snowdog Arctic Adventure Co. I kinda mill through everything and avoid putting those kinds of things in there. I mostly stick to old blankets, hoodies, sweatpants, etc. Denim and other tight fabrics or stuff woven together is a big no no. If you must put it at the very bottom as a filler and put the softer stuff in the middle.

    Would filling it with pink insulation foam or wood chips be a good idea?

    • @smitharchery8955
      @smitharchery8955  3 роки тому

      Can’t say that I’ve ever tried it but the insulation will break down if it gets wet and the wood chips seem like they would break arrows.

      Jason Rigsby I’ve not had any issues with carbon or aluminum arrows. I imagine wood arrows will be fine.

  • @Roughneck250
    @Roughneck250 4 роки тому

    Ok...It's been a little over a year. Is the target still holding up? Any changes that you would make? Room for improvement?

    • @smitharchery8955
      @smitharchery8955  4 роки тому

      Mr. Partain we have replaced the front carpet once and the back is still in great shape. I highly recommend adding some sheet metal to the top just to help keep rain and moisture out . That gives the carpet longer life. Also if you can keep it somewhere shady and not in direct sunlight will also help. The structure itself is still holding strong and is still a fantastic target for long distance and easy retrieval of arrows.
