    I once stuffed a 1 gallon plastic jug with grocery store shopping bags for a pellet gun target.

    Best archery back stop I have used consists of a rack supporting three horizontal poles spaced a few inches apart with carpet pieces draped over them providing six separate curtains of what ever size the frame can support. For new archers I have a framework that is six foot wide and six foot high draped with twelve by six pieces of carpet. In use as the arrow hits each drape, the drape deflects, changing the angle the arrow enters the next one which slows and stops the arrow. I have made the frame from poles cut in the woods for no cost, draped with scrap carpet for no cost. A hundred pound compound only pierced three of the six layers. Also does not leave a difficult to remove residue on the arrow that plastic stuffed targets do.

    Hunters draw length is too short. Great video. I’ve made a couple of these before. Lumber yards is a great place to get plastic from. They wrap lumber in it for transport.

    • @yaknlife6894
      @yaknlife6894  6 місяців тому +1

      His draw length has been since adjusted. He’s been growing so rapidly it’s crazy! His real problem was his anchor point. It was back to far which was in turn making him hold his bow further out! His form and posture has also been fixed causing him to shoot so much better!

  • @dylanharrell503

    I’ve heard of people doing the same thing but put small legs on the bottom so the wood doesn’t rot.

    Hunters draw length is way to short but great build super cool target and price friendly

    • @yaknlife6894
      @yaknlife6894  3 місяці тому

      His draw was increased twice since then. He’s grown like he’s had a steady diet of miracle grow. He’s actually now at 28.5. He also was anchoring to far back which ended up resulting in him pulling his hand he held the bow with back!

    • @ronaldirvineII

      @yaknlife6894 yeah I was literally thinking when I noticed it that I bet it's hard to keep on top of a growing kids draw length 😀

    Plastic is better - cloth is heavy and if water gets in cloth will retain water

    • @yaknlife6894
      @yaknlife6894  8 місяців тому

    The least expensive 3x3 target ever. $70-80 and old clothes, plastic whatever. The Morrel bags are nothing but rags etc too. The trash bins at Goodwill will usually have tons of clothes they won’t sell. Just cut off the buttons, zippers etc. anything hard that can ruin a field or target point. Wear rubber gloves handling any old clothing. I made a mixture of clothes and plastic randomly packed in my homemade targets

    • @yaknlife6894
      @yaknlife6894  9 місяців тому

      It’s been an amazing target that’s held up better than I could ever expect! And yes, bag targets are made up of rags! That’s a great point as well, make sure buttons and zippers are removed!

    • @thirdhandman
      @thirdhandman 6 місяців тому +1

      @@yaknlife6894 when hit with an arrow a zipper will simply separate, plastic buttons will explode. In my 30+ years of making and selling targets I have never waisted time on removal. On my own personal targets I have only damaged a couple of field points in 30 years. I really don’t suggest removing buttons and zippers..

    • @thirdhandman
      @thirdhandman 6 місяців тому +1

      Yak, thanks for videoing your build. This was the first time I saw it. I like how you held the lid in place. Just so your viewers know, I prefer old clothing materials. Shirts, pants, coats, towels, sheets, etc all do work well and available pretty easily if you ask. Using various colors, the filler will show through all targets. That is why we suggest black plastic contractors bag or land scape filler. If you use the target out doors, unless it is covered the clothing will get damp and mildew. Leave it out side and continue to shoot a few more years.😉

    • @yaknlife6894
      @yaknlife6894  6 місяців тому +2

      @@thirdhandman I definitely feel it’s much easier to remove arrows where the target is stuffed with the moving blankets and old clothes. Plastic stops them and isn’t exactly a hard removal, the fabric section is just easier!
