Time constant 1, under 5db of compression, just stunning. I would love to hear the other time constants with the input changed from one another to do less compression, but thanks for the great video. Chandler is my favourite audio company on earth, and now I need two of these.
Check out these other two videos when you get a chance to hear much more of the RS660: ua-cam.com/video/2TmQKbDzjfc/v-deo.htmlsi=IQs2A5FgPKMLbKfa ua-cam.com/video/9m1aJBwtxns/v-deo.htmlsi=HghP74uWk253axVP
Wow Josh! Thanks again for showing us this one! I really appreciate that you take the time to do this while recovering. I hope you get well as soon as possible!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the demo! I hear ya on the kidney haha...one of these days I'll manage to collect all these Vari Mu comps and hopefully have all my organs still accounted for 🤣
I liked how it makes the vocals sound more focused compared to the dry signal. Release times 1 and 2 sounded the best. Comp mode was more smooth and natural, while the limit mode was more rock and roll sounding. Can't wait to hear how it sounds on the other sources and how the THD mode sounds. Thank you Josh for your videos!!! Speedy recovery to you!!!
Thanks Elias! I appreciate the well wishes and I'll definitely show the 660 on all kinds of sources in the next couple of videos so I hope you'll enjoy those as well.
@@SeawellStudios ok cool by the way I just tried the new elysia skulpter mpreesor qube up against my ams Neve 1073 in the ams Neve genesys black console Ilooking for something different but there's no comparing the 2 the console of course is on a whole nother level
Ha! I didn't even think of it but now that you mention it that is funny 🤣. Thankfully with the RS660, it's sonic stamp isn't hard to hear. I appreciate the well wishes!
@@SeawellStudios Thanks for the info. I've already watched this 3 times hah. I thought I was sold on getting an RS124 very soon and honestly wasn't blown away with the RS660 I heard on the chili pepper stuff but yours just now sounds ridiculously good. I look forward to the upcoming review. If you have a RS124 laying around it would be interesting to hear the vibe difference between the 2. Hope you're feeling better as well!
Thanks for the well wishes man, it's very much appreciated! I do still have the RS124 here and will do a direct comparison of the two. It's something I'm very interested in personally so I'm curious to see how it turns out.
176 is much more versatile to me so I'd go with it if I had to choose between the two. It can handle literally any vocal you throw at itl. The RS660 didn't jive well with some vocals I tried it on that had a lot of high mid information. Having said that, when the RS660 is the right fit(I loved limiter mode, time constant 3) it is a truly special sound! I see the RS660 more as a specialty piece that you add after you have your main compression bases covered. I hope that helps! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
It looks like it has an amazing tone. Thanks for this little demo! What do you think of its attack speed compared to the rs124? I just got a 176 that is just amazing. I use it for a lot of sources but mostly vocals. I was going to get a 124 later on and run it through my 176. But this one really makes me curious... I'm really looking forward to your feedback when you get to know it well! Thanks for your videos, the quality, the time you spend on it. A pure pleasure man.
You're so welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The RS660 can be much faster than the RS124. It doesn't slow down to RS124 speed territory until around time constants 5, 6 & 7. Limiter mode is even faster in 1-3. It's not as fast as the 176 though. The 176 is the fastest Vari Mu I've ever come across. That thing can just take any vocal and show it who's the boss 🤣 The RS660 is definitely a more pronounced color than the RS124 or 176 and that could either be good or bad depending on what you're looking for. I'm going to do a couple more videos(hopefully this weekend). The first will be a thorough review of the RS660 showing it all over a song and also demonstrating the THD mode. The second will be a direct comparison to the RS124. I really appreciate your kind words about my channel and I hope you enjoy those upcoming videos as well!
This sounds great on your vocal! Would love to hear your thoughts on how it compares to the retro Sta level. I want to add a second compressor to my vocal chain which is currently (Great Rivers- Retro 176).
Thanks! For vocals specifically, I prefer the Sta Level. You can check out a review I did of it here which features vocals from the same singer in this clip(Patrick Rock) to give you a better idea of how the two compare: ua-cam.com/video/SvgDF-bwPpY/v-deo.html

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm still following my recovery directions of course but am doing as much as I can to help me keep from going stir crazy 🤣
Oh hell yes finally someone has a demo of this! Thank you! Chandler doesn't disappoint again with an incredible-sounding comp.
You're so welcome! I'm editing a full review right now that will be up asap showing it on a full song, THD mode and all!
Awesome demonstration as usual!!! Thanks for the time, effort, and resources you put into these. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks so much for the continued support my friend 👊🏼
Man, time constant 3 sounds delightfull.
Agreed! That's where I ended up landing most times on a vocal.
Great demo. Thank you for making this. Wonderful to hear a great compressor in great music with great performances. Now, to sell a kidney…

Sounds Fantastic. Thanks for scrolling through the time contants so you can really hear how it grabs. Pretty damn amazing. Great recording too!
Thanks! I tried to pace it so I could get through each one by the song's end. Took me 4 times to get a good flow 🤣. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

I think i might try this on my rap vocals mines kinda old school
I bet it would be great for that! Particularly limiter mode. Let me know what you think once you get a chance to try one.

-And I hope you are getting better. Had a rough hernia last year. It sucks being Ill like that.
Thanks man, sorry to hear you went through that as well! It's a slow process, but I'm getting there!
Sounds fantastic dude! Thanks! Questions, what mic is that and was there any compression on the vox during tracking? Great voice too!
Thanks! Vocal tracking chain was Korby KAT(67 Capsule) > Shadow Hills Quad Gama Preamp > Serpent Audio Splice MKII(set very conservatively).

You should acoustics and bass di next.
Thanks! I'm going to go through a song and use it on pretty much everything including demonstrating the saturation mode.
@@SeawellStudios I own a highland dynamics Bg2. It does the Rs124 thing but this thing has my attention as well.
