I miss all of them, including Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. I was an early customer of Scarecrow Video in the U -District. It was a fun activity.

It hurt to hear him get choked up about missing seeing the joy everyone had. I miss having places like this around.

There's an old mom & pop video rental store in Tucson, AZ called Casa Video. My uncle had a membership there in the 90s and 2000s. They turned part of their store (2 stories) and turned it into bar. It's still around and you can rent videos there.

Smart to pivot like that. I wonder how many other video stores could've stayed open longer if they chose interesting integration like this.

    When did it close? 2021?
Wow this is a blast from the past!
Sorry covid and general seattle happenings took your business away…

I used to think I missed the 3 video rental places I had growing up, but really I just miss that time of my life. We ALL stopped going for a reason. Did people cry for the horse and buggy dealers when cars were invented? It's fine to romanticize the past, but technology is just convenience. Cars are more convenient. Streaming is more convenient. If you need a physical copy for your viewing, anytime? You have Ebay, Amazon, FB Marketplace, etc. Wanna talk movies? There are online forums galore (with more people than the video stores ever had active). These people don't hate "big corporations" like they think they do. They just hate change.

No they don't. They miss the community. Going out. NOT being tethered to your computer, television. Actually making an effort, meeting people when u rent a movie getting recommendations, making new friends. Community. It's disappearing. And it really shows in our very isolated Society.

@@Missunderstood103 The community is still there, it just moved online. Things change with time. I miss (my local shops) Video Connection, Video Cave, and even the small rental section in our old Food Town store. I've purchased 90% of my used VHS and DVDs in my life, mostly from those 3 places. I spent hours and hours there. I miss those years, but completely understand the downfall of the brick and mortar stores we get nostalgic over. As I said, we all miss our pasts, but must be understanding of the future and why it is happening.

@@Missunderstood103 Also, have you ever thought of making a group on reddit or facebook and scheduling a IRL meet-up of like-minded film buffs? If you can get 5 people on board for an outdoor picnic to chat about movies, it's already a higher number than I was used to chatting with at my old rental locations.
