As a kid, I think we all watched Home Alone to watch Kevin beat up the bad guys and get to live vicariously through him. As an adult, I love watching Kevin's character growth throughout the movie. He starts out eating junk, running through the house, bouncing on the bed, tearing up everything in sight. Then after being traumatized by the scary movie and the burglars, he starts trying to be more grown up. He showers, buys groceries, does laundry, accidentally steals a toothbrush but whatever. Then he cleans up the house and sets up a Christmas tree and stockings for all his family members because he misses them. Around this time, he makes friends with the old man and that's when we see Kevin go from an annoying little kid, to a perceptive young person with his own brand of wisdom, which his family is never able to see in him. I have never seen it like that I have noticed the most obvious things but when thinking about it he actually became more mature over the entire movie than any other 9 year old has ever been, a shame his family didn't believe him and he has to hide it.
I honestly feel so bad for Kevin, he’s ignored by EVERYONE in his family and he basically gets bullied by everyone and has no one to talk to because his cousins gang up on him and his parents are always busy with work, and the rest of his family literally hate🥴
I hate that Kevin gets the fault when he literally just reacts to being bullied by his siblings. Nobody EVER gets in trouble. Whenever someone does smth he gets in trouble and yelled at and insulted. 🤦🏻♀️
Home Alone the Parents: Kevin! We’re so sorry we left you home alone! We promise to never mistreat ever again! Home alone 2: *WHERE THE F&@K IS KEVIN?!*
The iron to the face and the hot doorknob got me. Like, I would think you would feel a nail before it did too much damage, but dropping that iron on a person's head, how did that guy not have a broken nose or worse???
Noo, everyone gets pissed at him for no reason, then he gets pissed, then the family is like, "wHy r u sO maD", and he be like "BECAUSE EVERYONE HATES ME", then they r like "ur a meanie, now go die".
I always thought about this movie as an imaginary adventure Kevin had after being locked in the attic. Didn't we all do it? Imaging what would happen if the family moved to Africa or won a lottery or our dad was a lost king of England etc. That's why everyone is so mean to him because we're inside Kevin's mind and see through his eyes. To a sensitive child even innocent joes can feel like bullying in certain situations.
Whenever my parents leave me home alone, I get anxiety and start thinking "what if they died?" and I basically freak out. Am I the only one who does this?
I am always worried when my mother is not home on time or isnt home when I come back. I call and text until I know she is okay and when she is coming back. She tends to get annoyed by that. I did it ever since I was a little girl. The odd thing is that she never really wondered where I've been, and trust me, she shouldve.
If uncle frank called my kid a jerk I don’t care what he did, there would be a fight. Once I found out that buzz ate all the cheese just to spite his brother he’d be sleeping in the attic.
@@hayleydoesthings And a few scenes before he ordered the pizza, his parents called the neighbours. We heard them leave a message when the bandits were in the neighbours house.
Julianna Hrubes plus the cops couldn’t catch the Wet Bandits until Kevin incapacitated them and when they showed up to check if Kevin was there, they knocked and assumed no one was home...like don’t you think the kid would be scared?
The dad couldn't get hold of any of the neighbours because literally everybody went elsewhere over the holidays, not because the phone lines didn't work
One thing I have to disagree with is the fact that I’ve never met a kid who doesn’t like Home Alone. The idea of being free from parental control is pretty much universal fantasy for kids everywhere regardless of whatever generation or era you’re from. That along with all the Looney Tunes-esque shenanigans with the booby traps just makes it a timeless classic.
I know. He said that no kid now would like this movie, but I am a late gen-z (2007) and I saw this movie for the first time in 5th grade when I was 11 and was blown away! It's currently my third favorite christmas movie (only beaten out by Muppets Christmas Carol because of nostalgia and it's a wonderful life because its a masterpiece)
i have a few issues with this movie which are, because i get so pissed at when catherine o'hara and john heard do shit, they say shit, and they don't even get mad at that fuck uncle when that fuck calls macaulay culkin that name of little jerk. and it gets me pissed when everyone stares at macaulay culkin like he killed someone. and it gets me pissed when devin ratray gets let off the hook, and macaulay culkin gets punished for nothing.
While we're at it, the reason he uses the movie with the grown ups talking is so the pizza boy doesn't think that a kid was ordering pizza by himself all alone at night. (Even though it's the 90's and that shit happened all the time)
When I was like 6 I remember being at a basketball game and finding a lollipop wrapper that had a shooting star Indian kid on it. I was super excited because its ture that someone somewhere had told me this meant you could get a free lollipop. So little kid me went up to the people selling candies, popcorn, and whatever else and proudly showed the wrapper I had found. Now here's the miracle... the person actually gave me a free lollipop. Whoever you were. Thank you... you made me a very happy child and very embarrassed adult when I learned this isn't a thing

This movie and my experiences in a “broken” family basically taught me that you can’t choose your family but you can choose who to cut off. I was the Kevin of the family in a way because my family would blame me for almost everything, make fun of me, and whenever I got upset at it my mom would grab my arm and drag me into another room calling me an embarrassment. Being a kid is fun 😅
*offers cyber hugs* I'm so sorry. Family is who you choose to include in your life; blood relations are the people you happen to be biologically linked to.
It's probably a loop the family is stuck in. Kevin acts bad which make the family dislike him so they treat him poorly so Kevin acts up... and it just goes on and on.

the sad part about this movie is that he never misses his family, at all. he misses feeling safe. if robbers hadnt targeted his house, he probably wouldve been fine
seafoamSpirit What do u mean?? Of course he misses feeling safe, safety is what CREATES bonds between household members. That feeling of reliance and dependence is mainly what prompts little kids to develop love for their families, namely their parents. And by the end of the film Kevin is most distraught over the absence of his mother more than anyone else, which makes sense, for she is who he is most dependent on, therefore the family member he is closest to. He does indeed develop remorse by the end of the movie and is taught a valuable lesson through his experience. The robbers only serve to further Kevin’s appreciation towards his family once they arrive, but he would’ve eventually felt this way, maybe to a lower degree, had the robbers not been included. And keep in mind it is a movie, so the robbers do serve a vital role in spicing up the plot as well. Without them, the bulk of the film would be reduced to a montage of an 8 year old going against his mommy’s rules for a few days then wanting them back; no one wants to sit through that.
Ray Hopkins Lmao well in reality perhaps Kevin would’ve learned his lesson the first time, but not in the film industry where there’s money to be made from the production of a second film. Lucrative benefit trumps all ;)
As a kid with a mom that wasn't all that great, the balls he had to say "I don't want to see you for the rest of my life" was euphoric. Also, a family leaving a kid home alone would make sense the first time. But not the second time.
The scene with the pizza boy makes perfect sense. He blames the pizza boy for not bring enough cheese pizza the other night as he's being dragged upstairs he even says as much, and the pizza boy's "not my problem kid" attitude put him on Kevin's revenge list.
2:52-3:02 Yeesh, I've heard of crying over spilt milk but this is ridiculous! The mom doesn't even try to hear Kevin out and know that it was basically Buzz's fault for provoking him in the first place. Even as a kid this didn't set right with me.
Same thing happens in the second movie. Buzz humilates Kevin and when kevin retaliated he gets in trouble. Yet Buzz never got so much as a talking to about it. Yet Kevin is again sent to attic while Buzz giggles about it.
Uncle says look what you did you little jerk... And she doesn't even come to her son's defense? I mean regardless of what my kid did, my mama bear would come out and I'd tell off Uncle Frank for calling my kid a jerk. Geez, what horrible people!
Okay, you probably have not looked this up, but most of the questions you raised have answers. Is the family rich? Yes. The father is a senior partner in a firm and the mother is a designer, which explains all the mannequins. In the climax of the movie, Marv and Harry didn't give up because their plan was to kidnap Kevin and ask for a ransom. All that information and more is in the script. And the phone lines were never cut, they were just messed up, the repair man said so to Kate as they rushed to the airport. Oh and the reason he didn't call the cops was because he had stolen the toothbrush and assumed the police was looking for him. Again, not making this up, this is in the script.
thrillergirl021 I was yelling this while watching this video... I enjoy his videos but sometimes I feel like he doesn't watch the movies cuz he makes dumd questions like this!
@@JP-pb6hy You are obviously not a parent. The house was filled with all sorts of relatives causing all sorts of trouble. Dealing with that kind of situation is incredibly stressful. On top of that, Kevin caused a huge mess. They're not treating him like meat, they're giving him a timeout, which is a very common thing to do. It is very easy to judge other people from the comfort of your seat, especially when you happen to have zero experience yourself. Fact is: The more people you have to manage, the less time you can spend on each individual person, like it or not.
But if you call the police and tell you are in France and your 8 yr old kid was left behind, they wouldn't have been so nonchalant. Kevin would be put in foster care. Also when the robbers are caught, the neighbor just leaves him home to clean up his home? No one cares KEVIN, A CHILD, IS HOME ALONE ???
Some of y'all needa chill. Seriously. He never said it was a bad movie. In fact, a direct quote from 9:58 : "Home Alone is not a bad movie, per say". Besides, none of the criticism was out of line. The movie certainly did lack logic. But literally none of this was meant to bash the movie. Same applies to the rest of his channel. It's meant to be entertaining, if it isn't your cup of tea, then leave. Nobody cares you think someone should delete their channel because of your inability to take any kind of critique that doesn't put you and/or your interests/likes on a pedestal.
It's his childhood too and It just happens to be a lot of people's childhood xD. He even said he decided to take a look back now that's he's not a kid. The world looks different without rose tinted glasses.
@Rodrigo Rose tinted glasses? Are you serious? It's a fucking comedy/Christmas movie/children's movie. It's not even supposed to make sense. I enjoy the movie as much as the next person, but it's not exactly "perfect." And yes, a critique isn't necessary, but neither is the movie; to which I will also add that this is a "comedy" styled critique that also isn't meant to be taken too seriously. Happy holidays!
Can we just talk about how good Catherine O'Hara is in this movie? She completely nails every scene she's in. Her face is so good at portraying any emotion she needs to.

Me too. It’s just so good, the music, the cheesy yet heartwarming message, even the acting’s really good for an eight year old. One of the best Christmas films rver
For some reason in my country one TV station plays Home Alone every year since 1997. EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. Like it or not, watching this movie on the Christmas Eve is like a tradition at this point...
Same and I hate it. It's just 90 minutes of abuse, aggression and hurting people. With like 15 minutes of something nice in between. The embodiment of Christmas, right?...
I watched it every day for 22 years.. That's 8,035 times.. (extra 5 days because of leap years) .. 🏃🏃🏃🏃💀💀👽👽👽BEAT THAT YA LITTLE TROUT SNIFFER! 🏃🏃🏃🏃👻👻💨🐟🐠🐟🐟🐟
They're really not that abusive. Yeah his cousin is a jerk but like his mom is just really stressed and Kevin is honestly a bit of a brat in the beginning.
But that's still not an excuse for her to say "Ask Santa for a new family." Brat or not, he is like one of the youngest kids in that house. She didn't have to take his side but she sure as heck shouldn't have blamed him alone for what happened with the milk when it has been clearly established that the other kids pick on him the most and provoke him. I'm the youngest in my family, and I got picked on a lot, but my parents at least held the right kid responsible for things like that. Half the time both kids got into trouble when things got broke, or spilled in my family.
@@storygirl747watts4 Yeah, maybe she did punish Buzz and we didn't see it. There is also the theory that we are seeing this from Kevin's perspective, which makes his family worse in his eyes. I just know that he does still deserved to be punished for the kitchen scene.
I can't believe you said no kid from today wouldn't watch this... the movie has become even bigger than it ever was when I was a kid and that had nothing to do with me, people naturally make this an event because it's that good, it's a perfect holiday film and a pretty good every other day of the year film
Kids have always been kids and the power fantasy of getting to defend your home is pretty much universal. I pity all the parents that had to pick up after our "traps".

the sad part about this movie is that he never misses his family, at all. he misses feeling safe. if robbers hadnt targeted his house, he probably wouldve been fine
He does, by the end he does.
Have you seen the middle of the movie more times than the end of the movie?
seafoamSpirit What do u mean??
So when he is looking at the family picture and all those times he's saying Mom where are you
Yeah totally didn't miss them
Ray Hopkins Lmao well in reality perhaps Kevin would’ve learned his lesson the first time, but not in the film industry where there’s money to be made from the production of a second film. Lucrative benefit trumps all ;)
As a kid with a mom that wasn't all that great, the balls he had to say "I don't want to see you for the rest of my life" was euphoric.
Also, a family leaving a kid home alone would make sense the first time. But not the second time.

How come the parents are so cold and treat their own child like a piece of meat?
@@JP-pb6hy Because the movie is from a kid's perspective and kids take everything harshly.

Besides, none of the criticism was out of line. The movie certainly did lack logic. But literally none of this was meant to bash the movie. Same applies to the rest of his channel. It's meant to be entertaining, if it isn't your cup of tea, then leave. Nobody cares you think someone should delete their channel because of your inability to take any kind of critique that doesn't put you and/or your interests/likes on a pedestal.

Some one has to tell me what job Kevin's dad did to afford such a house and an all paid expense trip for 14 people to Europe
a theory is he’s a mob boss 😂
Nah, he did some shady things in Cuba for the American government
@@iamherenet1569 😂
Both his parents are rich? I know that his mom’s a clothing designer(hence the mannequins)
Why just his dad
8:37 he sounds like spongebob laughing, don’t lie.
He does through
And so Kevin learned that it really _is_ better to be home alone instead of living with other people.
Yep
5:56
The more important question is
*WHY DID HIS FAMILY JUST HAVE MANNEQUINS LYING AROUND THEIR HOUSE?!?!?!?!?*
Sabrina McNeil Kevin’s mom is a fashion designer
we have already established that they are weird
All I do is comment wouldn’t that be at her work place not her home

You're being really sensitive about some comments right now.

I didn't say offended.
@@mutantfreak48 If you are offended easily you are sensitive. So I used the word offended.
Simon she’s being sensitive? Have you seen other comments who bring his hard work down only because he commented on their favourite movie. People DO need to relax.
as a 12 y/o now I'd like to say
I have nostalgia for this movie
Me too. It’s just so good, the music, the cheesy yet heartwarming message, even the acting’s really good for an eight year old. One of the best Christmas films rver

Could you imagine if his family or the cops got back to the house when the traps were still up
Ah, yes. Perfect revenge.
@@schneefee yep
That would’ve been hysterical 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ya, he would get grounded forever and they would always leave him behind. Lol.
He resets the traps and then runs aways to new york.
For some reason in my country one TV station plays Home Alone every year since 1997. EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. Like it or not, watching this movie on the Christmas Eve is like a tradition at this point...
Same same
The italian one does the same with home alone, harry potter and such. I got sad because i missed it this year lmao.
Every TV station plays it in New Year in my country
Same and I hate it. It's just 90 minutes of abuse, aggression and hurting people. With like 15 minutes of something nice in between. The embodiment of Christmas, right?...
Same lol. They show all 5 movies every Sunday till Christmas every year sometimes even backwards.
Even with the problems, this movie still makes me laugh volumes.
I've watched Home Alone at least 40 times
I have too
I hated it every time
Moyo Alasade lol same
Same XD
Amateur, I’ve seen it 10745284 times
I watched it every day for 22 years.. That's 8,035 times.. (extra 5 days because of leap years) .. 🏃🏃🏃🏃💀💀👽👽👽BEAT THAT YA LITTLE TROUT SNIFFER! 🏃🏃🏃🏃👻👻💨🐟🐠🐟🐟🐟
If I was in Home Alone I prob would have stayed in a corner and cried 😂
Me doo
Kathy Rida I would have just looked up so much porn, or I would just watch a shit ton of ecchi anime.
Same
Every time I watch this movie I find the family so abusive at the beginning that I don’t want Kevin to get back together with his family
They're really not that abusive. Yeah his cousin is a jerk but like his mom is just really stressed and Kevin is honestly a bit of a brat in the beginning.
Well mostly it was because his whole family picked on him I mean his brother literally didn't save any pizza for him.
@@leannasullender154 Even before then he still was a brat.
Me reading the captions: Huh, this actually looks the captions got it right for once-
Captions: You’re with the French call. Amazing convict Dom.
I can't believe you said no kid from today wouldn't watch this... the movie has become even bigger than it ever was when I was a kid and that had nothing to do with me, people naturally make this an event because it's that good, it's a perfect holiday film and a pretty good every other day of the year film
DreBone1986 would* no kid from today wouldn’t watch this means that no kid WOULDN’T watch it.

Kids have always been kids and the power fantasy of getting to defend your home is pretty much universal. I pity all the parents that had to pick up after our "traps".
