In Germany, a modx+ sells for about 35% Euros more than the former modx, that's really an impressive plus. 😱
Thank's for the review. I purchased one this morning.
Great keyboard and my favorite music store Chuck Levine!!
Thanks for sharing
Nice playing on the Chick patch, Blake!
I can't believe it, 750 MB of added memory! Yamaha is really pushing the boundaries much further than anyone can imagine.
Let's hope that in a few decades we'll see MP3 compatibility.
Don't get me wrong. This is a great sounding keyboard but.... in 2022 750mb is nothing to get excited about. Yamaha can do better
@@biggrime it was sarcasm)
@@danielbelik I get it 😆
@@danielbelik yep we got it Dan!! :) It's like you meant to say why not add a REAL '+' upgrade like ... Aftertouch keybed for the extra $100+ pricing ... I think I heard(?). Right.
@@theaudioeng after touch always was a premium feature and it's not essential for the most keyboardists. But, flash memory is really cheap today, so that would be nice to have, at least, 64GB or 128GB of memory. Or, at least, support of microSD memory cards.
Combined with mp3 support, which we also didn't get, it could really become an upgrade worth to think about.
Thanks for the review! I'm in MD, grew up around Chuck Levin's so always liked supporting the store! I just talked to Spence yesterday and headed up this morning to grab my MODX+7. Time to retire that heavy a$$ Korg KronosX and keep it at home...😃😃
oh thats funny, I just bought a MODX8+ to replace my KronosX 88
@@srmicrowave Nice, how are you liking it so far? I'm enjoying the sound engine, and it's much lighter than my Kronos!
@@kdub607 just got it last night, need to learn the in and out of it but so far i liking it.
Nice shout-out to Washington Music Center.
I was considering buying a used MODX6 but now I will wait for the Plus 😉
Though the same! Now I’m happy with my MODX7+ worth it !

Are there new Organ Patches in the MODX+ ?
Thanks..
Blake! Is there a new Flagship synth coming?
I recently downloaded the Bosendorfer Piano library which is amazing, but was disappointed that the "Ghosts in Piano" patch was not included. Any thoughts on why Blake?
when is the new GENOS being released?
I bought my modx6 two months ago. Will Yamaha exchange my new modx6 for the new modx+ ?
Can a regular Modx be upgraded to the plus?
No mention about the keybed... Wonder if it had an update. The only gripe I had about the 6 and 7 models.
Exactly 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I had the “7”. Liked the keybed but they where noisy, specially the black keys.
@@mh22xv I previously had a 7 & enjoyed it but wasn’t to happy about the KeyBed. I recently inquired to a rep before this recently release & they stated no improvement…🥺
Love Yamaha 💗
Sir can import a sample on modx plus because I need for 4 reasons
First reason one for live orchestral performance program and second reason for studio recording and 3 reason how many own samples and library s can I improt on modx plus and 4 reason it's fast loading keyboard because I saw korg Kronos it has 9 engine and loading was too slow can't use on live orchestral program can modx plus beat this korg Kronos and natulis
Sooooo, what’s up with the keybed? Is it revamped or just the same as the original modx?
I'd like to know also.. The keybed on the 1st generation was blah... And with the plus series (6&7)it's been claimed in specs as semi weighted.
I guess like all rubber or rubberised wheels, they'll get to feel sticky eventually.
So I don't think you could have added an extra 64 to the FM-X polyphony such that the MODX+ now has 128 AWM2 + 128 FM-X and is able to run off a single SWP70 tone generator, since the Montage has the same polyphony, but requires 2 x SWP70 tone generators ... which leads me to believe that the MODX+ must have 2 x SWP70's. But why would Yamaha add the 2nd tone generator, just for an extra 64 of FM-X polyphony..!? From what I am seeing at music stores, the price of the new MODX+ is dead center between the Roland Fantom-0 & the Korg Nautilus, so it appears there is a price increase from the original MODX. The additional User memory (now 1.75 GB) on the MODX+ was easily doable with an OS update since the memory chips were already on the MODX to begin with, so really the ~30% price increase doesn't seem justified with only adding polyphony and new wheels, unless there is something else. The only explanation I can speculate on for this to all add up is that Yamaha are planning to add a 3rd AN-X modeled virtual analog engine in the next OS update of the Montage and the MODX+
Time will tell ... guess we'll have to wait and see ;)
i would consider the new AN-X engine, probably it's THE reason for this new model, as the montage should get it easy for already having 2 swp70 .. but we still need to wait for confirm and official announce from the guys of yamaha
@@Bridg3_Baby 💯 That's the same thing I was thinking. If the updated MODX had a AN-X engine then it probably would be great, but all of the other updates just merely rival with the Montage.
Hello Blake, good review and interesting update. I just want to say that a very important feature is still vital and has not been made. That is when you switch sounds it cuts the last one too harsh. I was going to buy this thing right away thinking it would have it added but no. I have the modx8 and I absolutely love it for many reasons. But that update is a must for the future. Maybe a cheap reverb automated to every sound change would help a lot, don’t even care if it’s a low quality, is just that it cuts off too bad and in live situation makes you look very bad
Hi Rafael! Well according to Yamaha and other MODX+ YT demo's, they have included for all sounds now as the added chip ref. increased Polyphony to 256 notes total gives it the ability... I have same issue with the original MODX6 I've got. Recheck that out on the Yamaha site... 😎👍🎹🎵🍻
With superknob, the voices audibly cutoff…probably due to all the effects?
mejor hubieran actualizado el teclado, que es de muy baja calidad en el modx 6 y 7
I sure hope those rubber-coated wheels don’t develop the dreaded “sticky” syndrome that many rubberized plastic parts have developed over the last ten years on many pieces of my collection of music and computer gear. There is no fix for it, short of replacement of parts or using a strong solvent to strip the rubber coating off.
Did they update the keybed quality?
I don’t think “All New” means what you think it means.
Better be new or getting refund.
1:29
Sounds still cuts anyways.
So it’s Moe d x .. not Mod x ..got it
I don't get this memory limitations. Crippled devices.
거의 KROME -> KROME EX 수준의 업그레이드 ;;
An 64gb ipad is priced at approximately 300 eur. The buttons and sliders on a modx cost less than each. The keybed between 50 to 100 eur. Other than that the modx is rubber and plastic. Should not cost almost 2000 eur. Compare a year 2000 cell phone with a year 2022 model and you realize that digital synths are not the high tech they used to be.
So they put the master volume knob in even farther out of reach and left an even bigger space on the panel where they could have put an easy to get to master volume slider . LOL !
Still no Aftertouch. 🤷
And no doubt a spongy crappy action keyboard as well!
so people who got onboard last year get a less capable machine for the same price, yet its not enough of an upgrade to make it worth trading in.. so this is really for new buyers who benefit by not buying sooner.. nice
I feel fooled, too. Now we can forget about updates on the outdated MODX. Buying a new cool MODX facing this actual economic situation? Rather not.
It says MOD X, why do you keep calling it a MODE E X? Is that how it is pronounced? Where is the E coming from?
The Ghost in piano program should’ve been named Ghostendorfer. Missed chance imo. 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Church
kk
All the haters on here are just mad that they bought the lower tier version before waiting for the plus version.
No AN-X👎
There is nothing worse than Yamaha synthesizers these days! The next will be another MODX Plus, but in white. I don't expect anything else from Yamaha. This synthesizer is another Yamaha duck.
Why don’t they fix the keybed? Its the worst feeling playing synth action keybeds!!!! They need to put the same keybed from the montage!!!! Then you’ll be cooking with fire
They made the modx for people who wanted good sounds of montage at cheaper price. What since would it make to put high quality keybed in and sell at half the price of montage. If they did that no one would buy the montage. At half the price what do you expect If they put gold on the modx people would still complain
Well first of all I didn’t ask you for your personal opinion… Second if you knew what you were talking about they changed more than just the keybed to make it cheaper from the montage… so take your opinion and your gold and shove it! Bunch of trolls…
The keybed is among the least of my problems. It has good sounds, but I wish they did more with the sequencer.
750mb more, extra polyphones = 1000€ 😂😂😂😂😂 Yamaha you make mee sick 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
This is a very underwhelming upgrade the one thing that would have made me upgrade would have been an extra set of outputs as in my Montage.Good for new buyers but disappointing for existing owners.
Exactly. Also need to mention poor synth-action keybed that was advertised as semi-weighted. That one definitely needs to be improved.
Honestly? Fuck money. When are we going to pour quality into society than fake-value. Also Why don't they just get AI tech to do the job, analyze every last feedback on Internet of the modx+montage and then it makes changes into its construction. With diagrams/exploded diagrams displaying extra capabilities/ports the full. Or same thing. But full customisability to suit the buyer. You want ports? Go get em. We'll add that to your keyboard. Want non rubberised wheels/keyboard all yours, want extra large screen all yours. And other things will be already integrated into keyboard. Like better sounds.
Basically a better AI constructed keyboard (based off feedback) to construct master keyboard that caters to everyone. But then you can remove things if want to make it cheaper. (But only do that if you absolutely deem some features to be irrelevant). Maybe a Deluxe silvery red/pink Ice Cream Coloured Skin/paint keyboard, dazzling but warm business scent at same time. Millionaires shortbread, Mocha Chocolate. Any and all colours in existence. Like Nobel paints. YOU choose paint. They make, apply. Candy floss (gold rose brass/pink/dark pink paint). And it would even SMELL like Candy Floss. Specially synthesized into its proteins to give out that authentic smell. Baked cookie dough, Muffin Brown/Strawberry Milkshake/Caramel Cheesecake. Chocolate Brownie, Rhubarb Crumble/Drumstix/Fresh Pineapple/Lemonade and Ice Cream/Pistachio/Coconut/Krusty Kreme Donut/Lindor Chocolate/Maltese/Galaxy/Fruit Cocktail/Trifle/Caramel/Honey/Coca Cola/Pepsi/Fanta/Orangetizer.
I’d like a black MODX (1st version from 5 years ago that’s bean beaten to the shithouse and a keybed that looks like the smile of a crack who’re down on 7th avenue. Maybe some coke spilled down in there so I get the occasional whiff of something I can’t put my finger on. Oh and can I get a screen that is buggy as hell with lines going through it? Lastly, I’d love for all the patches to be the factory “Best of MODX” performances, locked and uneditable. Maybe a pushed in power supply input and loose inputs and outputs to top it all off. Oh and I forgot, I’d like it to constantly go out of tune so I have to repeatedly do factory resets on it. Thanks, putting in my order now.
This "upgrade" is like putting cheap exhaust tips on a Honda.
Yamaha made great synths 40+ years ago. It is all they talk about. DX7, blah blah.. SY99 blah blah.. Once upon a time they made the CS80. Yet there is nothing on their web site singing the praises of current stuff. It is as if they know the current stuff is dated crap and cannot stand up to any synth made this century. Only short-sighted mugs will buy this. If you want a dated UI and a hard to program machine this is for you. How is this progress?
🤣 Bro, you sound Buthurt, I have the Kronos, Fantom-G, Kurzweil 2700, and Montage, Montage is by far my choice for most sounds, simply awesome, can’t speak for your experience tho…
@@bigcdub Yamaha is a company that once upon a time made a good synth. Rather than improve on or make something new all we get is re-treads of 40 year old stuff. The dx7 had you entering numbers to describe envelopes. 40 years later and we still enter numbers in boxes to alter an envelope and other stuff. Roland allows you to drag points on a graphic of said envelope to make changes. Pictures of knobs move on screen as you slide to select a value. They use different colors for different things. Yamaha clones the Montage in a plastic case and leave Noah's UI exactly the same. Where is the progress? Rather than work on something useful we get this. Their web site features SYNTHS FROM LAST CENTURY. Must we wait for the year 2080 to see something new? Modx gives 88 algorithms FM. Great but Korg lets you stack operators anyway you want so they allow infinite choices. They even color coded it to make it easy to understand. Yamaha cannot be bothered to use logical wave name types to make things easier for the user. How about allowing screen brightness to dim? Too advanced for the engineers at Yamaha. People might find a use for that.
They were first with FM but are in last place now. All they do is copy their own stuff and empty headed muppets lap it up. Wait 6 months and they will make a white or pink modx available with exactly the same guts as the Montage. Feel free to 'trade up' and keep your nose firmly up Yamaha's behind.
Less than 2Gb memory? Now that is an engineering feat!!! To put that miserly amount in a unit in 2022 in miraculous. You can buy 8Tb SSDs I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying for it. If the 1.75mb is magically faster than light then page it in and out as needed like all computers do with cache memory. It is not 1970 anymore. If they insist on such little memory then let people dump directly via USB to their computer's HD. No. Plug in a USB, wait 10mins to transfer files. Walk to a computer, plug in and read USB. I'm am shocked they don't use floppy disks.
I don't celebrate lazy companies ripping off customers.
@@tiomkinnyborg2289 You seem to be the only one with this problem with the company… I’m making plenty good music with mine!🤣
@@tiomkinnyborg2289 You summed up my feelings about this keyboard exactly! I love the Yamaha sounds, but you have to be a sound engineer to edit or create new ones. As you stated, other manufacturers have a much better UI.
@@kevinstudevant7370 True. Yamaha does have the best sounds. They sound richer and more detailed compared to the competition. They have updated the montage via updates but why they are anally retentive about it is beyond me. If someone was in the market for a synth, they would do research. The montage came out in 2016 yet it is not featured on their web site. Instead we get the latest re-packed thing or synths from the 70's and 80's. They never mention 'coming soon' upgrades but dwell on the ancient FM from the dx7. No effort is ever made to improve work flow. If you programmed an old dx synth you will find that the montage is exactly the same. They bring out a gimped touchscreen. You select a box then jump to a window to enter a value in box. Breaking the flow. In the real world we are hands on (think of a phone UI or the Fantom). You see something, you drag it to change it. You visualize values as knob positions. Why is a mixing desk full of knobs and not boxes with numbers in them? The montage has real knobs that reflect that. You don't think in numbers just look at the orange lights. But a different team designed the 'touch' interface. It is just endless boxes with numbers in them. Straight from the engineering page. No money is spent improving it. Just re-hash what went before. Still it works because the sheep and seals (clappers) will LOVE buying the same thing in a new box. I don't blame the demoers they are just doing their job but a grain of honesty would go a long way.
this is an absolute joke of an update
with insane price
I agree. I will keep my modx for now
@@depositiveone2677 that’s not at all what I said
It’s objectively “better” than the original.
The issue is that it’s such a small, incremental update that it doesn’t separate itself from the original release enough to justify upgrading if you already have one, nor is it enough to pay the extra cash for a new one at these prices, when used ones are available for much less.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is a terrible motto.
Yeah, it still sucks
@@depositiveone2677 no, your comment said that what I said was exactly what you said.
It wasn’t, and I pointed this out.
You can’t say “same thing I said” and then shift the goalpost to “I’m just talking about me”.
Moreover, this has nothing to do with “what a person wants in a keyboard” or “personal preference”.
It is, quite specifically, about whether or not this is a significant upgrade relative’ to the features of the original.
The “upgrades” are, while desirable, underwhelming for a whole new board three years after the original.
Bla ,bla bla...sin sequencer multipista integrado es una pena........
They could've simply made a new flagship, instead they've decided to waste money and make this, its 2022 cmon yamaha roland is literally making u and korg look bad.
But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with a new flagship next year
Blah blah blah
So for me as an owner of several companies keyboards/workstations including the simple and poor yamaha modx8 , I realize that people that bought one modx recently or a couple of years ago, are just hardly Fu**** by Yamaha , 'cause updates will disappear, limitations will continue. And then ofc people will compare Yamaha with other manufacturers. The harsh truth is that a Kronos that has now what 11 years or more is a beast that no keyboard can match, and honestly it's the best period. I dare to say that even my triton LE bought in 2003 is better than modx: has after touch, 4 6" outputs (2 assignable) , better keybed, sample board, has a decent and usefull 16 track sequencer, karma/arpeggiator , etc etc . So wtf is Yamaha doing in recent years honestly? After Motif they are dead. The fanboys gonna hate but that's the truth.
Love the arguments of fanboys comparing for example a Kronos with a montage, for example comparing loading time, wtf???? But who has their keyboards turned off before a gig? Just an amateur for sure. "Oh Korg its complicated" , but you want a decent keyboard or a preset toy? Btw FM in montage/modx it's not easy also, it's archaic, I don't even talk about dx serious 'cause I would have a serious cringe laugh.
Comparing a 1,75gb memory handicapped Keyboard with 2 single engines versus a beast that's has sampling, hardcore sequencer, 8 engines, etc etc it's like comparing simple charcoal with the purest of gold. Not even the superknob saves the day. Even Kurzweil that was "dying" released very decent keyboards recently. I use vst's etc etc , but for live gigs I prefer the reliable hardware, and this move from Yamaha just stated what I was thinking: besides their vehicle/motorcycle department, and some instruments (pianos) they are full of sh**. It's a money pit that don't worth the money spent in, at least in the last decade and an half .
Ps- they can't even fix their bugged piano sounds that came in montage/modx, some of them after you press long enough will squeak high pitch and detuned. Even after updates, so it's not the new added memory that will solve that, or the outputs of montage being just über hype, and that you can search a guy in UA-cam that had to change them to decent ones. Paying 3000+ € for a machine like that I just outrageous . "Drop the mic."
Enjoy your Korg. I’ll enjoy my Yamaha. No need to convince me otherwise, or tell me what to spend my money on. If I wanted a Korg, I’d buy one, but I don’t want one.
@@terrygray7465 I use sequencial, Korg, Kurzweil, Arturia, Moog etc. And yes I enjoy what works Vs the money invested Vs the return ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't buy keyboard based simply on what it brings but what it can do and versatility. And what I stated is simply what a lot of hardcore Yamaha musicians I know said also to me. I have one Yamaha , they have Motif's, Montages, Tyrus, Mofx and some of them even old gear that is rare to find and expensive as hell. So for me it's not enjoying whatever machines I have, but what I can do with them and what is expected when I'm hired to play for example as a session musician. Or in a band that's has to play various genres from Brazilian to metal, from classical to jazz, from pop/dance to rap or Latin/south American music in one single gig.
So if you didn't really got what I was saying is one thing , other is being blind based on tastes. Cause if it's to talk about tastes and preferences I prefer to play the pipe organs that I play usually, and I'll not give a flying Fu** for any synth on market compared to that.
And let's assume that not everyone is rich as hell, or has their own keyboard technician and also that to make a 2 ou 4 hours gig you don't have to take 5 or 6 keyboards to play, rack modules etc etc. Let's be at least intellectually honest at that and at least to not base/compare professionalism (and work to be done ) with tastes. Cause for sure if you have to transport 3000 people on the sea for tourism and vacations, you'll not put them on separate crap ships each one with a capacity of 500 people and that take twice the money/ time to get where a decent cruiser nowadays does. Let that sink in. I'm talking about facts not tastes. And facts don't care about your feelings, opinions, personality or tastes.
I'm not any brand fanboy, I'm fanboy of work that is well done. Btw I like the Motif Series, But if you want a simple comparison ,compare a keyboard with an SSD drive vs one keyboard that has 1,75gb memory and need usb pendrives. Or just watch what machine the actual best keyboard rock player (Jordan rudess) in the world uses, do you see a montage there? Let that sink in. I'm out
The CFX still awful and poor.
Terrible demo , all you did was talk , wanted to hear what some of the rhythms sounded like
