Lots of cool new stuff but I'm really bummed on losing the 4x4 button grid for different pages in Live mode. It's an essential part of how I use the Montage live.
So the previous Montage series seemed to be a throwback to the DX series with its FM orientated sound engine (which was in addition to the Montage’s other more traditional sound engines). The new Montage is showcasing a throwback to one of their 90’s synth, the AN1X which was analog modeling. So has the new Montage refocused the approach to analog modeling and stepping away from FM architecture? I’m still on the fence with the Montage series. I have a Motif XF and Roland’s current flagship Fantom. I’ve always favored the XF over the Montage for its sequencing abilities over the Montage. I primarily use DAW’s and VST’s, but even in todays market, a workstation with a good hardware sequencer is a major plus. The sound of the new Montage is very impressive though. Maybe I’ll pick one up.., the 88 key version is very tempting.

And is this machine really above and beyond the capabilities of the current computer technology that is now so affordable? "ESP will be free for Montage M users" - does it mean there will be a paid version for non-Montage M users? I have a Motif XS and would really love to upgrade, but I don't really need the hardware, and I prefer VST workflow anyway.
You should keep your Yamaha Motif XS as it's still a fantastic piece of kit ( I wouldn't mind a rack version of Motif XS ). I know many of the Halion Sonic 3 and Halion 4 factory sounds are based on Motif XS and XF samples but on the hardware they sound far more superior to Halion. I prefer Motif over Montage because Motif was the best synth/workstation Yamaha ever made. I also prefer VST workflow but it is also nice to hang onto any hardware you bought back in the day.
@@LittleRichard1988 I'll probably keep it, that's why I'm primarily interested in a software version of Montage M. Korg did it with Native Opsix/Modwave/Wavestate, but then again the HW versions of them weren't $4K a pop. So I'm not sure what price tag would Yamaha have to come up with for it. I guess I'd be willing to pay a bit, something within the price range of an Omnishpere (around $500, I'd personally pay more because I love Yamaha's samples - but it might be a tough sell for someone simply looking for something Halion-like - why not just get Halion?) As for XS - well, it's nice to keep hardware, but XS is hardly a synth that you can just sit at and play when you're inspired - it takes 40 seconds to boot it up... Not to mention if I want to load my favorite S700 piano into memory.
I just don't understand why Yammy ditched the AN-X engine so early...when they could have developed it further. (I had the PLG-AN card, didn't sound like my AN1X) The new Montage shows what can be done with the AN-X engine...

Without knowing the price, i was thinking of possibly getting one but at 4 n half K. I better look at something else haha😢... it's a lot heavier than a big bag of spuds too!!
Why would you not add the poly aftertouch to a synth action 61 key version? That's really lame to me. I don't know any piano players who prefer to play synth patches on Hammer Action keybed. Make a m6x and I will buy one.
Personally if I already owned the previous model I would stick with it although I don't own a Montage. That's part fo the reason I don't buy modern keyboards however I do have Halion 7.
checked the data list, some few new pianos, some few new other sounds, but the acustic drums (that I don't really like on earlyer models) are basically the same, and no Revo Drums, that's what I expected for this Montage M (I'm a Pop Rock man, and find the drums weak and tiny sounding) not impressed at all, don't need that cinematic drums for nothing, just wanted good sounding bold and punchy new Acoustic Drums
I use a Yamaha Clp 795 gp as a piano and like a 76 key synth on top, I’m purchasing the montage m 7 but I agree, I wish it had the after touch, I just don’t want and already huge 88 key keyboard sitting on top of my piano, they 76 key will be big enough already
@@gavintruesdel3728 They all have aftertouch only difference is the 88 key model has the new GEX action with polyphonic aftertouch which is a different type of aftertouch to give a more natural feel on the pianos.
Why not make a 12" inch screen like on the Ipad Pro. That small screen is ridiculous. Go all out and design it right. That screen is too small, it's 2023 not 1998. You have all that empty space on the right & left top of the keyboard, could've move those buttons over more, so you can make the screen bigger. That screen is the same size as my smarrphone screen. What a waste of space
Every version … always so great etc…. Organ fake Leslie sound. String sound grand piano sound. I don’t think they will ever get there Anyway - I’m sure a bar band might include one, but it would be a ridiculous investment. The kind that drives Dave Ramsey out of his mind
Your opening statement about workflow 😂😂😂😂 the workflow was always “pants”. Have they improved it at all? Hopefully yes with oled strip and ability to add more libraries.
I was thinking about getting one until he said the anx engine only had 16 note polyphony!? He kind of muttered it under his breath so it was hard to understand, I had to rewind to hear it clearly. That was pretty shady. And totally unacceptable. 16 note polyphony are you kidding me wtf
As a owner of the 2016 montage I feel disappointed with new version. Only 16 voices for the AN-X and still no decent features to create and/or modify the arpeggios. They kept the same pattern sequencer that does allow for step editing and/or editing notes. I think I keep my existing for quite a while…
The pads are too digital and clean, not organic. The basses have no body. The acoustic pianos are impressive. The drums are mediocre as well as the imitation of analog sounds, they lack the real analog dirt, this Yamaha doesn't have it, I think the last Yamaha that had that real analog 'feel' was the EX5.
I'm still very disappointed at Yamaha's slow progress. I am not impressed at some of their new features either. They were terrible drawbacks of the original models that they failed to address in a timely fashion. To now introduce them as a new feature is a scam! One of those drawbacks was your sound cutting off as you changed programs! Just disgusting! As someone who has arranged my own sound using a DAW (FL Studio) and a controller, I switch programs seamlessly without signal breaks. And that's for a fraction of the cost of the Montage! Similarly, he mentioned the keyboard control especially for us church players, to enable us add or remove instruments seamlessly and fade them easily. That's absolutely not new. We've been doing that with controllers for long. I also hope the touchscreen has been upgraded. The current models have a laggy response. I know it has genuine new features like the ribbon control and the 512x64 status display and also upgdaded memory size and maximum polyphony but I expect it to have way more hardware control features like the actual switches on an organ, drum pad, live drum suite controls, a full TouchPad for X-Y axis control/blending. I expect more input output control for the analog audio, probably a dedicated EQ also. Then, the $5,000 price tag can be justified.
@rayhill4625 I am but you can tell if you hear some of the themes I play on my channel. Especially my old cover of Lolita🤣🤣 Been a while gotta post new ish. I just got the M8X and I had the FA-08 Prior. which could do 16, You can still do 16 on the m8x but not with every sound. Which makes sense I guess because some of the sounds are SUPER LAYERED.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the design. The colors are just superb

Hi, How can I connect a midi controller with Yamaha Montage?
Usb plug or jack plug in the back 👍
I hope I see one of those bad boys at my local music store in Dundee?
Why would you not add the poly aftertouch to a synth action 61 key version? That's really lame to me. I don't know any piano players who prefer to play synth patches on Hammer Action keybed. Make a m6x and I will buy one.
Is this montage is going to come white ?
Unscrew, take it off, sand down, spray, play 👌
Is this worth selling to previous model, are the upgrades significant enough
Always🙂
Personally if I already owned the previous model I would stick with it although I don't own a Montage.
That's part fo the reason I don't buy modern keyboards however I do have Halion 7.
what about the sequencer?
checked the data list, some few new pianos, some few new other sounds, but the acustic drums (that I don't really like on earlyer models) are basically the same, and no Revo Drums, that's what I expected for this Montage M (I'm a Pop Rock man, and find the drums weak and tiny sounding) not impressed at all, don't need that cinematic drums for nothing, just wanted good sounding bold and punchy new Acoustic Drums
Lot's of $$$
Why did they leave out aftertouch on the 6/7 models? Aren't they part of the flagship line?
Makes it a no for me, but that's just me
I use a Yamaha Clp 795 gp as a piano and like a 76 key synth on top, I’m purchasing the montage m 7 but I agree, I wish it had the after touch, I just don’t want and already huge 88 key keyboard sitting on top of my piano, they 76 key will be big enough already
Agreed. Poly AT should've been across the whole line.
@@gavintruesdel3728 They all have aftertouch only difference is the 88 key model has the new GEX action with polyphonic aftertouch which is a different type of aftertouch to give a more natural feel on the pianos.
❤
Seems to be quite a lot of unintended distortion on many of the sounds? Recorded a bit too hot?
You have convinced me into selling my Kronos :)))
Don't do it, keep them both!
@@ThePHoenixX99 I think I’ll do that
Amazing bro.
Open a plugin in Montage M - year 2035.
WHAT ABOUT FL STUDIO DAW????
Kool comment. But yea lot of money for what kronos can do since 2011
Does it have really basic things like chord memory?
Filter sounds very fizzy, and harsh, not terrible, but not analogue at all.
anyone wanna but a used Korg PA5x?
is a Moster Synth
🙌🎹🔥
Your opening statement about workflow 😂😂😂😂 the workflow was always “pants”. Have they improved it at all? Hopefully yes with oled strip and ability to add more libraries.
I was thinking about getting one until he said the anx engine only had 16 note polyphony!? He kind of muttered it under his breath so it was hard to understand, I had to rewind to hear it clearly. That was pretty shady. And totally unacceptable. 16 note polyphony are you kidding me wtf
First Comment!!
👍👍👍
As a owner of the 2016 montage I feel disappointed with new version. Only 16 voices for the AN-X and still no decent features to create and/or modify the arpeggios. They kept the same pattern sequencer that does allow for step editing and/or editing notes. I think I keep my existing for quite a while…
Yamaha can do Devine...
Yamaha being selfish, why only add the polyphonic after touch only to the 88 keys?
I will never forgive my brother for calling me a super knob.
I hope one day you guys can turn the knob the other direction
To operate montage, I must learn some sound engineering. Only a music composer needs this.
This now blows the new nord stage 4 out of the park 100% nord wake up Yamaha has just destroyed your piano
🔥🎹🔥
We cannot get alittle bigger screen, wtf, these companies are out of touch with the world, 10 inch screen, makes more sense. In 2023.
So preset wave memory isn’t doubled at all, more like a 76% increase…awful marketing Yamaha, awful.
buy a new montage and spend 30 hours making adjustments in 40,000 different menus and actually play for 4 minutes.
Too bad you can only play 8 sounds on your keyboard and not all 16 like other brands can.
Yep - it’s a POS because it “only” plays 8 sounds instead of 16. 🤦♂️ 🤦♂️
@@jptaylorNow it can 16 parts!!! I tried that!
Dude be honest who is out here even playing more than 4 sounds at a time?😭🤦🏾♂️🤣
@@jptaylor like nobody is out here using all 16 sounds not even 8 sounds🤣 bruh tripping
What a nervous explanation.
