Thank you once again for highlighting John's rhythm playing. It is a good strummer for beginners but after 40 yrs of playing I still play this one, Beatles music ages like wine.
would have been easier for them to just watch the tele program with elvis playing... or even lightnin hopkins or something, Broonzy, all those guys used it second nature.
Unjoyful, today we have a HD large screen TV in just about every room of the house, and we can record anything we want in HD. Back then there was probably no more than one small black & white, fuzzy screen TV in each street. So you had to be nice to your privileged neighbour to see anything on TV, or stand outside the local radio & TV shop's front window. Those were the days my friend!
One that i'm currently learning and your lesson has helped me so much, I will soon play along with you again. Stay safe and love your approach to all the songs that you play. From Downunder in Oz
What funny timing. Here I was watching Beatles parody videos and this video shows up. I couldn't finish this post before another Beatle vid of yours pops up. Haven't heard you play the Beatles is quite a while. Thanks so much.
LETS EASE ON IN TO MONDAY WITH TWO BEATLES LESSONS FROM MY FAV UA-cam GUITARIST JAMES JAMES. He really lets you hear the wonderful chords the Beatles played. "And then the chord that sets the Beatles apart from Herman's Hermits is...." Really dig these little comments. Originally released on A Hard Day's Night album in 1964.
HAHAHAHA Crack me up!!! You're a great teacher and I have learned many songs from you. I always had to listen to the songs and try to figure them out. It took a long time! :) So many many thanks for what you do for us!
I gotsta git me one them thar Gibson SJ-200s, But trophy wife was kinda angry when she woke up and she was missing one of her kidneys. It was about the time I got that Custom shop Les Paul.....
Try playing your g in a similar way to the c.just move top two fingers up a string.this way you won't have to take your hand off the guitar to play your g7.its tricky to play a g this way at the start, but it has a lot of benefits,
Nice.... Lennon's rhythm and especially his acoustic playing drove that band. I hope you were joking when you said that their cord changes is what set them apart from Herman's Hermits.
he's talking about this song specifically, Otherwise it'd just be a simple G/D/C song. The E-minor slightly sets it apart, but the genuine mood and atmosphere comes from the dissonance that the B7 entails
Philtration Herman's Hermits were great, but twee. The Beatles music had more substance and real emotion and that is predominantly because of John Lennon. When he sings "If this is love you've gotta give me more", he means it.
When you're rocking back and forth between G and D, the D chord should include the high g note, i.e., don't take your little finger off the third fret high E string.
I stated it wrong, I didn't mean to say what you're doing is wrong, I should have said you should try it the other way. I personally like playing it that way better. But I don't question that what you're doing is hat they do on the record..
Very good except one small mistake. On the verses, John goes BACK to G BEFORE he goes to EM. Listen again to the record & you will even hear the bass do the same thing. No big deal, just wanted to point it out.
@@Happiman That's a movie, it's not actual footage of the recording session for the song. First, you can hear how the harmonica overlaps with his vocal -- obviously, that's an overdub. And in the movie scene, nobody is playing an acoustic guitar, which is clearly heard on the recording. This is so absurd it's hardly worth discussing.
I absolutely loved johns aggressive acoustic playing on so many of their songs
One of my favorites as well. Lennon’s voice was crazy good! Great lesson!
An underrated Beatles song... Simple but so effective!
Thank you once again for highlighting John's rhythm playing. It is a good strummer for beginners but after 40 yrs of playing I still play this one, Beatles music ages like wine.
"We got on a bus across Liverpool, cuz there was a rumour a bloke knew the B7 chord". Macca.
would have been easier for them to just watch the tele program with elvis playing... or even lightnin hopkins or something, Broonzy, all those guys used it second nature.
Unjoyful What show are you referring to in which Elvis plays the B7 chord?
Unjoyful, today we have a HD large screen TV in just about every room of the house, and we can record anything we want in HD. "It's just a rumor." GH
The B7 chord was used in a Buddy Holly song and Paul wanted to know how to play it.
Man that guitar sound crys so beautiful
Going from G to G7 was another little Beatles trick that made them unlike Herman's Hermits, or any other group.
the 7 chord to lead into the verse is a great touch, good song writing right there
I could listen this song the whole week and never get tired!! Pure joy thanks for the lesson
Thank-you JJ for amplifying JL's brilliance ... take some of that for thyself !!!
The song that made me realise that the Beatles were a cut above every under band around
Oh it's the B7 chord for the Beatles sound. Hurrah. Love you. JL ❤
Thanks James James for the time and effort you put into creating these videos, it is greatly appreciated.
daniel crosier echo that. Thank you for these videos JJ.
Doing face time guitar lessons with my son and this video was perfect for both of us to get those rhythm chops flowing. Thanks JJ

Such good chord progression
Very well done there my good fellow ,,,,
Man , you always nail it. Is that a J-150, or a J-200 ?
The Beatles songs have stood the test of time.
It is simple and it works.
Great ,Thankyou !
Awesome

Dude, I just posted Get Back a couple of weeks ago. :)

Works quite well on the ukulele, too.

First song I learned on guitar
HAHAHAHA Crack me up!!! You're a great teacher and I have learned many songs from you. I always had to listen to the songs and try to figure them out. It took a long time! :) So many many thanks for what you do for us!
The rock steadiest strumming arm on all of UA-cam!
👍
Good strumming
👍 😎
John sings it more robustly in this version than in the studio version. Or is it just the audio that gives that impression?
What type of camera are you using to record with?
I gotsta git me one them thar Gibson SJ-200s, But trophy wife was kinda angry when she woke up and she was missing one of her kidneys. It was about the time I got that Custom shop Les Paul.....

iaminbetweendays a hard says night
Ok, James James. But in the early '60's when we tried to figure these songs out, where were you to help?????
Pooping my diapers.
At my age I'm probably going to be doing that again soon.
Which live version are you playing along with?
A tribute band.
Whats the strum pattern? Sounds like dd du du is that the pattern all the way through the song?
Nice....
Lennon's rhythm and especially his acoustic playing drove that band.
I hope you were joking when you said that their cord changes is what set them apart from Herman's Hermits.
Philtration so true
he's talking about this song specifically, Otherwise it'd just be a simple G/D/C song.
At least Herman's Hermits had Jimmy Page. :)
What’s the background recording?
A Beatles tribute band.
When you're rocking back and forth between G and D, the D chord should include the high g note, i.e., don't take your little finger off the third fret high E string.
I definitely hear the high E going 3 to 2, 3 to 2...
I stated it wrong, I didn't mean to say what you're doing is wrong, I should have said you should try it the other way. I personally like playing it that way better. But I don't question that what you're doing is hat they do on the record..
By the way, thanks for this vid, very good.
Could it be D7 instead of D? I mean G-D7-G-D7.
It is not in the Hard Day's Night movie George plays G to D
I'm surprised John never really played lead on songs he wrote.
Well, he was the third best guitar player in the band.
Very good except one small mistake. On the verses, John goes BACK to G BEFORE he goes to EM. Listen again to the record & you will even hear the bass do the same thing. No big deal, just wanted to point it out.
Not John but George plays the guitar s into, John plays harmonica.
The harmonica is an overdub, John is on acoustic for the track.
