I had a rottweiler when my now-husband and I first started dating. He was terrified initially but they fell in love with each other. Jaidyn was an amazing dog: smart, clever, sweet, funny, and well behaved. We miss her every day and look forward to the day we can bring our next rott home.

I just got my first rott, she's 2 and didn't get a lot of attention or training at her first home, I am confident I can have her forever and she's been doing really good with training. Still hasn't been socialized, a little jumpy around people and other dogs, but she doesn't pull me much more and she is very sweet with me and my pregnant fiance. Not sure if she'd kill someone that just came in my house, she might but thats her job I mean, protecting us. I love her with all my heart and I've only had her a few weeks.

There is a huge difference between working bloodlines and more traditional pet breeders. I have one of each. A 140lb male by pet breeders. Big softy, easy going, quite lazy most of the time and loves attention. My female is 95lb 100% German working line. She is much more alert, highly active, easily switches to protect mode and is happy to exist without too much attention. I have had two previous Rottweilers and out of the four my current girl has been by far the most stubborn and hardest to train. Finding her triggers and keeping her motivated have been very difficult. I have had two previous Rottweilers and have had the breed for 15 years. If your thinking of getting a Rottweiler for the first time, look at what type of breeder you’re buying from. Dogs from working stock are very different from your breeder who lets their dogs sleep on the couch. Best breed by far in my opinion, loyal, loving, true family dogs.

I got my first boy at 8 weeks and 1 old the day after Thanksgiving. He was in his first puppy basic before he turned 3 months old. He got regular trips the pet stores to meet people. In almost 12 years he was with me we only had two issues. Both times he saw a man approaching me with what he perceived to be a weapon and he was going to defend me. As soon as the men retreated he went back to being a goofball. Train them + Socialize them = awesome Rottie

As Wil knows, this is my favorite breed. I owned a 125lb gladiator German rottie who lived to be 12. She was loyal, courageous, protective, powerful, smart, and HATED the rain. Lol We lived in a questionable area that had bad activity in our alley under our back window. That changed when she stood guard there. She'd bark and snarl. Zero tolerance for ignorance.

As a dedicated Rottie owner and lover this is good information. DO NOT get a Rottie if you are not ready to dedicate the time to socialized and train them properly. It is the fault of bad owners that give these sweet, loyal, dogs their bad reputation.

We've had 3 Rotties, 2 females and 1 male. Rescued all of them from the local city shelter. Most misunderstood dog ever. They are loyal, smart, playful, protective, stubborn and sneaky at times. The last one, a female, passed away in January of this year at just 4 years old. We are devastated.

My parents bred German Rottweillers (never docked and a bit stockier/taller than other varieties) for 40 years. Beautiful Dogs but with all the caveats Will mentioned. Unfortunately I don't have the time to put into a puppy, and they're a puppy for a very long time, otherwise I'd own one in a flash. It's all good though, I love my Danish Spitz and Poodle X Maltese 😀.

@@Davidoff94121 The breed standard for specifically German Bloodline Rottweilers has always been undocked as per the German Kennel Club standard. It's only in the other varieties that the practice occurs outside Germany and there's never been a good reason for it other than cosmetic in modern times; so no valid reason.

I found myself with 3 males at one point in my life. Dont ask how its a long story. But all 3 males were great pets within the home. They all got on and never worried each other, other then play. One was bad when out the house. He was never off the lead if other dogs were around. But he was also the best with my kids. He didnt trust other people but loved his family. All 3 had very different traits and behaviours. To me they are the best dogs in the world. Great with kids and super easy to train. A big cuddly teddy bear.

Our four and a half month old female is a handful. Someone mentioned they are sneaky and its true. She'll steal something she's not supposed to have and sit down next to an approved toy and chew the contraband while looking back to see if we notice every moment or so. She's been like that since the day we got her. VERY food motivated for training, too.

Live in a small apartment ... I am not home for at least 10 hours every day cause of work ... But i am a super active person.... Recommendation for a dog breed for me ? Something medium to large size don't like small dog breeds... Has to be quiet cause of the neighborhood and it will be many hours alone ... Was thinking of a sharpei maybe? Any recommendations? Thanks

Needs keeping in check and regular exercise but give much more back .most loving breed I know just oozes love . Will give it's life for owner and household. My biggest problem was other people who totally misunderstanding this breed . Neighbours have everything from terriers to poodles who have bitten but never a rotti. Shepherd. Cane corso or staffie or boxer . People need to get there facts right . Amazing breed but if you don't put structure in place you are to blame

Had Rottweilers all my life. Now got the Bullmastweiler which is a blonde looking rottweiler, longer face like a rottweiler but bullmastiff colouring and chubbiness. Shes beautiful. Everyones always asking to breed. They are family dogs too, they dont have a rottweiler working dog/guard dog temperment although all the dogs i had they were family dogs so its not what im saying, just bullmastweilers will not be worked into a guard dog, they dont understand hurting people so are very gentle but more powerful or at least she is. shes same size as me 6ft stood up and only 2. Very clever, she seems to be self aware which is crazy for people to understand. I told her her dads going to heaven, she cried. he then cried. they communicated to each other by licking their lips. if you see your dog licking its lips, its trying to tell you something. she is aware she is a dog and she is so sad right now after losing her dad. wouldn't come near me thinking i killed him. understood heaven after the cat died.. i told her she went to heaven (as she died in my arms waiting for a vet appointment) i asked if she crapped in my room. She said yes, she did, tested her many different ways. Left no, right yes. I've asked her a lot about her, about how she thinks, talks. I asked her if her old mummy or daddy hurt her. i said look this way (left) for your old mummy or right for your old daddy and she putt her head downtowards me and turned away indicated i hurt her.. (because i had t put my other 16 year old to sleep) but videos of her crying. the loud cry is not them crying.. at all, its their excited/attention cry. when they cry, its a very very low cry. can hardly hear it and eyes water. her jaw shakes too. its incredible. i sound like i need sectioning but no im fine lol keep an eye on tiktok and youtube and ill upload videos of our communication. She knows what she looks like. who she is. its fucking insane. dog got put down 3 days ago now. still won't go near me and is so angry with me. told me shes angry with me. i explained what anger is obviously. ill upload the videos as your going to be sceptical but huge breakthrough here.

It is wrong to say that Rottweilers have a short fuse. What they have is a switch. They are either laid back, and docile, but study situations of threat, quietly, from a distance. If the they decide some person, or situation is of danger, they switch, immediantly, from docility to action.

Oh dear you sound stupid lol. Everything he said is correct! The dog's ancestry is from the Roman empire, Rome founded what it now Rotweil and brought the dogs to the area. And later the breed started a new life out of that town and was named after it. The town name Rotwiel in English is "Red-Ville", it got it's name name from the the red roof tiled homes.
