"Cara Mia" remains one of my all-time favorite songs! What an extraordinary vocal range Jay had! It was a wild time, but the 60s truly had some of the best music ever.
What a character, this guy is such a great talent. He is jay and the Americans and will always be! One of the best voices in music, up there with The best.
I love Jay . I'm 62 years old, and I worked in my earlier days for about 20 years as a professional musician in Germany with agencies. At this time I also worked for professional cover bands and Cara-mia was the top standard. I used to sing it even in a trio. (of course, some computer-sound help was applied about help 25 years ago) which baing my band to the top band area in entertainment. Now I am still able to sing it- more difficult ,-because I don't make music anymore, but still hit my tones, and still love this song. I would say the ultimate challenge for every musician! And still a lovely song.
One of the GREATEST Singers of ALL TIME,IF NOT THE BEST.A SINCERE Thank You Jay for the Wonderful Memories. From Your Thousands of Fans in Western Australia.
Saw him more times than I can remember. Great voice, great songs, and more often than not, he was as funny or funnier than the comics who opened for him.
Jay was a great interview subject for me in 1978 and this iadds a few details to the story of "Cara Mia." He's right about David Whitfield's operatic take, which was recorded in 1954 with Mantovani's Orchestra and became both a US and UK pop hit. Authorship was credited to "Tulio Trapani and Lee Lange" -- Lange a pseudonym for Whitfield's producer Bunny Lewis and Trapani the nom de plume for Mantovani.
I have seen Jay and The Americans in the 60's and have no desire to watch this other Jay impersonator...I saw Elvis in concert and don't even care to watch all these impersonator they have today. I like Jay Black and the Americans even at 70 years old......you can't beat the original record recorders....
I want to see him in person. Even if he doesn’t sing a note, I want to see him. Please someone tell me where, when and how. He’s 8 years older than me. Time is passing quickly. Someone please help.
is that really him...or are these guys to promote their station?..he said he was 70...looks far older...who was the guy that called him ''brundle fly''
Jay is in his 80's. I saw a young Jay and the Americans in 1962, in Fort Bragg NC. He had just release "Come a Little Bit Closer". He was as great then as he is now. There are many of his contemporary, performers, who wish they sound as god as Jay . zzz...her
@rich465 I saw him in concert about 15 years ago and he was just great, but, there was just something about his personality that I didn't like. My mom told me he was always like that even in the 50's.

OMG Funny interview
Glad that I know that hes 70 That way I can know how long I got
You should BE so lucky to have had his career....I sense jealousy here???
Good interview however Jay always says "I" instead of "The Band" ..." I opened for the Beatles"... etc...
If skidrow Josephine hates Jay so much, why does she keep stalking him??/ I think we have figured it out, he dissed her and now she's out for revenge.
hello
@SkidRowJosephine lets see if your as popular when your 70, there is never any need for your type of comments, why don't you think before speaking.
