Dan Vasc, Amazing Grace
need to react to janis joplin work me lord live video in stockholm "69" you'll be amazed the depth of maybe the greatest rock female voice of all-time !
Alip ba ta ft. Dimas Senopati - Another Day (Dream Theater)
Elvis Presley version of "O Sole Mio" re-lyricked into "It's Now or Never."
"Jay" sang this and his other songs until he was in his 70's, without missing a note. He pereformed until 2017 and passed in 2021 at 82.
He still sang and didn’t miss a note after having throat cancer
He was 25 when he recorded this classic
If memory serves, Jay's father was a Kanter at Temple and he was trained for that position. Try Come A Little Bit Closer.
David Draiman of the group Disturbed, I believe started training to be a cantor, which may explain why his version of the Sounds of Silence is so special
To be fair Jay Black is probably the most underrated singer of all time there is a reason this song is not copied at all very very little because it is almost impossible for people to hit these notes and sound that effortless and that Flawless this is truly One of a Kind singing and a master class and a tenor voice
Jay was a trained opera singer. His mom had him take lessons. But he wanted to be a popular singer. So you have nice mix of both in his performances.
Haha I remember buying this 45 when it came out in '65 and I wore it out!
Your commentary's along with your sing-along is so very entertaining, I can't compare it to anything I've seen ever seen. You being beautiful doesn't hurt anything.
another classic 60's song, thanks!
Just saw Jay &The Americans last night. They have two original members (one is the guy playing guitar) and they are on only their third “Jay”. They still sound great
I knew that nobody could sing like Jay Black, but the new Jay did a respectful job.
Thanks! This is why they called him The Voice. Loved your reaction and analysis.
Glad you enjoyed! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 😊👍🎶💖🥳🐶
your musical knowledge continues to impress. I am 67 and have never heard of a counter tenor. I thought that was when I left a 10 dollar bill on the lunch counter. Love your reactions. :) Peace
GOOD ONE : ))
Many people say that Jay is singing falsetto He is not singing Paul said oh, he is merely shifting from chest voice into head voice The highest note in this song is a C5 which is way up in the tenor range He can do the lighter configurations others just couldn't do this
He actually got better in his 60's and 70's.
Great reaction as always, Maggie. Great song choice from Mike. I miss these kinds of singers today. Maybe they’re out there, and I just haven’t found them.
There were quite a few really good singers in the '60's & early '70's. Another group (one of my favorites) from that era that I would like to see you do is Peter, Paul & Mary.
Maggie has reacted to Peter Paul and Mary a number of times on Twitch live streams.
Check out his This Magic Moment and Walking in the Rain.
“This Magic Moment” was their best song.
released in 1968/69.
Very impressed by your immediately pulling the Righteous Brothers (as individual voices) and Elvis, then throwing in Paul Anka, especially since were Jay's contemporaries but they were all before your time!
Roy Orbison clone! OH, and yes, he's fabulously talented!! Love to hear him do "This Magic Moment", huge hit for them and only a cover.
good reaction as always...:)
You need to listen to him sing this when he was 72...no difference.
Agreed he nails this song as an old man too
I like their version of Walking in the Rain.
Right. So amazing!
I like Jay and the Americans but my favorite song from them is their cover of "Some Enchanted Evening" from "South Pacific"!
Great job Maggie. Keep up the great work!
I've always loved this song! Thanks for the breakdown, I learned something today. You should also try Come a Little Bit Closer! It's a fun song!
Really enjoyed your review. Have watched it many times. Your reactions and manorisms are awesome!
Excellent choice - there aren't many reactions to Jay and the Americans.
I love this!!! Here's another favorite that I don't think anyone has done: Joanne by former Monkee Michael Nesmith. A beautiful, plaintive song he wrote after the Monkees broke up. You''ll be moved. Thanks!!!
During this era, there was this 'competition' between Jay Black and Frankie Valli. Both had huge followings. They were totally different types of singers, but they both 'played up the rivalry' for sales. Jay was by far the smoother, more polished singer.
Maggie I wrote here 3 times in the last 2 years to get you to react to this song OH WELL!! Jay also went to the Julliard . His mom wanted him to sing opera at the Met . Well he sang there singing Rock Yep his mom was there
So glad you watched. And thanks for the info. Hope to see you on my next livestream! 😊
one of the founding members of Jay and the Americans is Kenny Vance at 80 he's still recording and performing . He has a group called Kenny Vance and the Planotones, their biggest hit is "Looking for an Echo"
Apt comparisons, but throw Roy Orbison in there as well.
Especially with the quaveriness in his vibrato.
Maggie, there was a PBS music special back around 2010/2011 that showcased a lot of the old singers/groups from the 60's. Jay Black sang Cara Mia on that show and was absolutely amazing. You should watch it as a comparison to the original version. I think you will be impressed.
In this performance on Shidig, he was singing live, but this video has the studio version over his live vocals. You should listen to this performance live.
They do that a lot to the old teen shows on the internet or youtube, as if we should all be ashamed of live TV then and how it was...I say BS to that. You don't learn anything about the history of live TV or how great these artists really were live.
Several people have mentioned you should see his performance at age 73. Just go to UA-cam Jay Black caramel 2001 he done a performance and it was so good that PBS brought him back in 2011 and he recorded in their studio ever song he did. At 73 he holds a note for 40 seconds at the beginning of the song. He was known as simply"The Voice"Barbie music industry and his peers. I think he was the best lead male vocalist of the entire rock and roll ERA.
Now that is a high note!! Good on you sir!
Video of Jay performing this song at the age of 76 on UA-cam. There is a reason he is known as THE Voice. He tells a great story about Franki Valli asking him how he was going to sing that note at age 40...
The best story about this is Mick Jagger on Ed Sullivan. They sang Let's spend the night together, he sang it live. They wanted him to say Let's spend some time together. When he sang it the camera was focused on his face and turned to it and sang it right. They immediately changed the picture and The Stones were pereonna non grata on tv for a long time.
Find the 2011 video of him doing this in his 70s -- his voice got even better, like a fine wine or a well-built guitar.
Have you listened to Dan Vasc Amazing Grace yet? Would love to see your reaction!
🎉 Just a suggestion: If you like this era of music with a little falsetto, try on some Bobby Vinton, “Mr. Lonely” (1964) and “Blue Velvet” (1963).
Yeah, Jay and Friends sang a nice song... but the Hit is This video is the 60s fashions and clothes!! The geometric patterned short dresses on the dancers! The "Nice Guy" look of the Americans with their slacks, v-neck sweaters and (probably) turtleneck "dickies" which just went on like a little saddle with your head in the middle!! Loved it... oh, and the reaction of course!!!
Ain't Beach Boys ,but damn.
Actually. Mitch isn't singing falsetto, He is a counter tenor.
You should do Steve'n Seagulls cover of "Thunderstruck"
Have you listened to the Four Seasons. Frankie Vallie has a very good falsetto. Also Mitch with Pentatonix.
👍❤️
Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Hit after falsetto hit.
👍

Not Elvis, but Roy Orbison.
Do Hushabye by Jay Black [David Blatt] if you can sometime.
Jay Black Could've been An opera Singer 8:00
Hi! Are you looking for a video editor?
Pavoratti could sing this one.
bester ???
Or maybe they are him?
Only negative comment I have this is that they are almost lipsynching, producers normally insisted on it.
Watch the one on PBS in 2011 when he performs this song and see if that one is lip syncing...
Group could have been Jay & Furniture - same result
Gene Pitney's rendition is superior. More powerful and Pitney holds the notes much longer and stronger.
David Blatt took the name Jay Black after Jay Traynor left the band. They didn't want to change the name of the Band.
A huge thank you 😊
My pleasure! 😊
