I love this game, and still play it this many years later. And, this many years later, I've never finished the campaign mode! I'll have to go back to it tonight..
It's in the name of gameplay, and lets both sides have plenty of opportunity to change the course of the battle. This game rewards patience and good planning.
hmm from what i remember you just need to sneak a little and then you can disable ships with laser from your ships. the sneaking part is the hard part... but i don't have any trick specific to give...
Sadly I never got to that part of that glorious mission. My computer would always crash just after the second Gorg fleet would jump in. At least it was great to have your efforts in previous missions rewarded. Chief Zatuk showing up for the ass-kicking of the century was just classic in that mission.
I hear that originally the solar system map (it was missing sound effects for zooming in and out from the star system level to the galaxy level) was originally supposed to be a strategic view for when Nexus was still supposed to be Imperium Galactica III: Genesis, then it became a way to choose your next mission, but now it's just eye-candy. Very nice eye candy, of course, but unfortunately the Earth turns the wrong way in the solar system viewer.
i know right,the full game has a tutorail that shows itself bit by bit during gameplay,the demo is just...a bonus mission in the original game.and its a hard one at that.

You should look into an old space combat RTS game, called Haegemonia (called Hegemonia in North America), which was released in 2002. The shield and particle effects are made of pure awesome--seeing bigger ships and stations tear themselves to pieces is better than Nexus can do ship destruction. But yes, Nexus' Space Combat Real-Time Tactics is one-of-a-kind.
You win by speeding over to the nav points where there's only one ship guarding it. Quickly destroy the guard ship with your forces, recloak, and deploy the blocking generator before the other ships get too close.
Yep, but there was a euro-only release of the expansion pack, named Haegemonia: The Solon Heritage. I was lucky to snag a copy of the English version off of Ebay once. You can find a vid of the intro to the Solon Heritage on my channel, as well as some other nice Nexus vids.
go to the nav. point 0; when the complete recon data has been transmitted, go to the nav. point 6, then to the nav. point 11 and finnally you go directly to the station. for this last trajectory, put the engines on 200%. stop at 7/8 kms from the station and deploy the commando unit.
Some mods try to make the explosions better. Yes, the particles are a little low-res but the blinding light is to show just how much energy the ships need to keep running. When they go down, that energy is released. If you want the "best space RTS explosions ever," go check out a game called Haegemonia: The Solon Heritage in my videos.
Actually, by the time you get to that mission, the Angelwing is so chock-full of the most powerful components that it's not too hard to kill the reprogrammed Noah ships with just the Angelwing and the Ghost ships. Add the fact that you can use an antimatter engine while sneaking without alerting the enemy ships and the mission is a piece of cake.
i have to ask, ive seen may vids tht show nexus in two ways. your way, very detailed and the emptiness of space is full of amazing astroids and great grafix, then the other vids ive seen, in which it looks old and empty. is there an old and new version?
Hide behind the asteroids when you decloak. Do not cloak within line of sight to the sensors, the patrol ships, or the station itself. Do not approach an enemy ship or sensor closer than 700 units of distance while cloaked, or they will detect you. Use the absolute movement system to hide behind asteroids more easily.
I know why they have all that going on inside. I was recently watching the Stargate series and the shields in it were just as soft as the other TV and movie based shields. It may be arguable, but we have the fact that no systems of the ships can be damaged unless you use shield piercing weapons on the side of not.
Yeah, I remember reading a review that said "this game is chess on the prettiest board you've ever seen, where the pieces are starships blasting seven shades of shields out of each other." Makes you wonder why this game didn't succeed more . . .
@Dreadnought942 Actually this player was smart enough to equip the Angelwing (the main ship in this vid) with a Plasma Gun that doesn't need ammunition and can smash a ship's hull like the Torpedo Launcher (the weapon that ran out of ammo) did. Then again, it's not a good idea to put missile or torpedo launchers on the Angelwing because it can only carry half as much ammunition for those weapons as regular Noah cruisers can.
@theelusiveone It's a complex game with a lot of stuff to master and learn about, but it's worth it; as long as your patient and give it a chance. I think there's a demo
yep i did tt too, felt more like 3D chess, turning the battle map over & over again to analyse. But i might add that when decloaking, staying far way (abt 30000 units which is the closest i went :X) away also will not get detected. Just think before you do, like a tactician =)
@MHassan1986 I bought it yesterday for £5.99 on steam and it's amazing. It's one of the most realistic space simulators out there! It really makes you use your brain in battles. I knew the storyline is gonna be good as soon as I saw that mechanoid, star-like spaceship for the first time.
Up to ten depending on how far you progress in the storyline. Once you really learn how to fight in the game, there is going to be no substitute for the manual control panel. It lets you control how far you want to be away from a target, which engines to use to get there, how much spare power you want to devote to charge your batteries, and which devices will be turned on or off. If you get it off Steam I can help explain the game's power management system for you.
@Dreadnought942 Actually, I prefer using the Heavy Laser since Gunboats and Fighters can be intercepted a little too easily (especially since Titan station has 4 Phalanx Flak cannons). Sadly the game doesn't tell you that you can hide more effectively behind wrecks.
@skypopear go for Nexus if you want more or less realistic space battles. go for Homeworld 1 or 2, or both, if you want to blow lots of stuff up go for EVE if you want to build stuff, harvest resources, 'invent' stuff, do lots of evil PVP stuff, have epic 2000 player battles, or just want to fly with friends (or alone) arround blowing stuff up.
@swarm420 The EVE ships in that mod were ported straight from the original 3D models, just moved to the Nexus engine. If you check the comments of those various videos, you'll also notice that the creator claims he would rather play a more combat-focused game allowing for direct fleet control, something which in his experience was lacking in EVE Online.
Can you imagine what would have happened had Paramount, or JMS, Creator of Babylon 5, or Ronald D. Moore, Creator of the new Battlestar Galactica had gotten hold of this game's engine and made great games with it?! It pains me greatly to think of what might have been had this engine got the exposure it needed.
I love the shields of Nexus. There, I said it agian. =P Yes, I love the "hard" shield style. Unlike in Star Trek where someone shoots the ship, sheilds flare up, and then somehow the ship shakes on the inside and consoles and stuff explode... I like them to be virtually impenitrable, unless they are deactivated. Nexus has some of the best shield effects out there.

I wasn't critiquing your gameplay style, just the Angelwing configuration of this vid. I normally put two e-shells, two railguns, 1 plasma gun and 1 E-torpedo/bomb on the Angelwing myself.
I started to play it again, in version 1.01, but using a trainer or version 1.0 and a old executable to give me resourses, save, then trade again the exes. So I put all the good stuff before start playing this level where you need to protect the cargo ships. But the enemies shield was too hard to beat as mine. Is that a bug of the game, some glitch cause by the trainer or executables swap? I just trashed my new saves.
It is the shattered remnants of that game, reassembled into one of the very best, and probably the only, space-based Real-Time-Tactics game on the PC, with true 3D combat presently available nowhere else. It's a shame that IG3 didn't make it, but what became of it wasn't bad at all. Now if only they would make Nexus 2 . . .
there is a skirmish but you must dowload it from the web of the game or play in multiplayer there is only one map with bot (in the game is AI !!!) the picture of the map is a battleshipe so :)
Yes, it's easy because you have an entire stealthing army that pwns everybody for you after reprogramming the mines. The next mission is much more difficult, thankfully.
@MHassan1986 It might interest you to learn that there is a mod that puts EVE ships into Nexus. Using Nexus' tactical command interface with EVE ships would be a great thing.
when any cutscenes come up in this game or i click the button with the wrench inbetween mission the screen turns black and the sounds becomes really choppy and it wont react to anything, anybody know what that means?
There is a specific mission that is near impossible... and a couple that will only make things worse if you go with the advice of the in-game characters. However! The rest of them are all really-really fun when when you figure out how to manage your systems and ships. Heh! Load up a couple of energy bombs on my little destroyer... and then... BOOM! into the heart of an approaching enemy fleet. Trick of this game is energy management, aiming for the bigs guys first, and NEVER STAYING STILL!
You can say that again. Shield flares are seldom well-done in sci-fi TV shows or movies. Odd that the latest Star Trek movie didn't have any visible shields at all--they could really use the flare style from this game!
Hell yes. In HW2 the ships are stuck in a stack of 2D planes, so they're forced to return to the same 2D orientation, so it's not really true 3D, more like a stack of pancake-shaped spaces the ships have to fit in. Nexus is true 3D, bless its unloved heart.

Where you start the game off as choosing either Earth or Mars and then lead them to victory over the other and then you spread out through wormholes and meet two alien races? Played it already. Good game, though it could have been better. I liked the shields in it too. =D
aaah, this game. I really liked this game, wished they could of made a sequal to it. having a good story, good plot, gameplay is challageing-to say the least-, the ships very closely balanced since all ships have the same tech and the graphics-for DX9 amazing and think what they could of done with DX11. overall a very beautiful game.

you can't get more ships that that is allowed to you for the mission. However in two mission you can take control of the fleet.

There's a text file that comes with the demo explaining how to move your ships around and make them blow other ships to pieces.

No, but you can equip what guns ye want on your ships, but within reason. Get a certain amount of points depending on how well a mission went.

i love this game cuz it respects naval combat lows and limitations... a beautiful game, i played it 4 times now, the best game in its class.

It's a great game with a great story overall.
As a small fleet. There is no unit production, so don't think you can go spamming battleships in this game.
